Really great food and the most amazing waiter. Highly recommend the tasting food/drink menu item!
We had a fantastic experience last night!! I can't decide which was better- the service or the food. The staff was very knowledgeable, raising our anniversary dinner to a lovely experience. The food was delicious and thoughtful. We left satisfied and are eager to come back to try more :)
Very friendly and amazing service! Our server was well mannered and food was uniquely presented on the table. We love the desserts so much and so the food. What a great place of any occasion. We like how a dessert can be arranged by request with a happy birthday written by chocolate and surprisingly made our friend a happy day on her birthday's celebration!!

We ate there tonight! The food and drink were fantastic as was the wine and the service. We had such a fantastic server she made it even more amazing! Can't wait to try more dishes and be treated to such a wonderful evening!
We went to Cava for our anniversary dinner this evening & couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. The food, wine, service & atmosphere were all exceptional.
The restaurant that you keep coming back to for the food and the service. Get the super gilda!
Excellent food and service. We had a great dinner
INCREDIBLE EVERY TIME. The food is always - dish by dish - the most delicious the ingredients could possibly be. We are always amazed.

Exceptional, wonderful, gracious service met only by equally awesome food.
Most of the dishes that I tried were okay - good, but nothing outstanding, except for the foie gras. The foie gras is INCREDIBLE. I LOVE the texture, it is uniform and smooth and creamy without feeling too rich, because of the beautiful seasoning. It comes from Quebec and is cooked perfectly (i.e. barely cooked through). Next time I go back, I will get nothing but foie gras. Their octopus, which wasn't the best I've had, was better than the octopus dish I had at Buca Yorkville. The service was excellent and half price wine nights are the best time to go. The desserts weren't very good, but the ice cream was nice. I think this place is a bit pricey, but, once again, the foie gras is more than worth every penny.
This restaurant is amazing. The food was spectacular, the waiters are attentive, and knowledgeable about what they bring. It's not inexpensive, but well worth it. I was truly disappointed when the food was finished, but will surly return.
While it was an expensive meal, it was worth it. We requested that the kitchen cook for us. They're happy to oblige any food preferences, and we're careful to expand out palates, while respecting our wishes. Posolé, sweetbreads, and stuffed peppers were among the standouts, although all the dishes were top notch.
Service was extremely pleasant and eager to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Love- egg plant, ceviches & sable fish
Great- churros, patas fritas and croqueta
Not good- cauliflower salad
Yummy food and good service. Menu is fairly pricey so it's a good restaurant for special occasions. Egg plant is amazing and so is the ceviche. The sable fish is not that large but very yummy. Don't forget to have churros for dessert!
Very creative menu, tapas style, loved their duck and well prepared sweet breads, wonderful wine list and highly attentive wait staff. Will definitely return.
Very impressive little cave like Resto off Yonge. Very creative dishes. Phenomenal wait staff. Definitely try the venison. I'd come back for the churos too.
This is one of those restaurants where you can tell they really respect the quality of their ingredients. Everything is very fresh and high quality. The paella is good and all the pinchos are awesome. The sablefish is probably the best thing on the menu. So yummy!
Only complaint was that the service at times was a bit slow. We ordered a bottle of wine and it did not come to the table until half way through our meal.

One of my favourite places for a special dinner. Don't be fooled by the odd location, the food and service are fantastic. I can never resist the fries and warm olives. The eggplant and sweetbreads are a must. Best I've had in Toronto.
Great service, excellent sable!. The food was delicious and the service was great. If you go you should definitely try the sable dish. They are pricey but worth it and melt in your mouth. Enjoy!
Having lived in Barcelona previously, I have been craving a genuine Spanish experience ever since. Although this can't count as 100% authentic, it comes close.
The service was impeccable. Our server was delightful, very polite, courteous and helpful.
I wish we had been able to eat dinner, but we were just stopping for some churros. The churros were very good, albeit somewhat crunchy and with a definite hint of star anise, which could have been avoided. Nonetheless the churros con chocolat were a treat. The hot chocolate tasted almost like pure cocoa, no artificial sweetness.
I also couldn't help myself from ordering a glass of the Cava Classico Brut. It took me back in time to my months in Spain especially since I've visited the Codorniu caves that this particular cava is made in.
They had a couple of ham legs on the counter ready to be carved too. This really added to the Spanish ambience. The fact that Cava is tucked away in a little corner of the shopping enter also adds to the quaintness of it all.
Although, I will say, don't let the location throw you off - it's definitely one of the nicer & classier spots I've visited so far.
Hidden gem!. Great service, atmosphere, menu! A friend and I shared a number of dished including foie gras pintxo (divine), grilled ocotpus/potato salad (soooo delicious), chinese eggplant (unique and very good), and a pulled pork special. All in all, great meal. Would def go back and would highly recommend for a date.
Great option for a modern spin on tapas.
Standout dishes for us were : eggplant with manchego and honey, seared scallops, goat cheese croquettes, popcorn. Sablefish also very good, but overpriced for such a tiny piece of fish.
Free corkage on Sundays!
Fun dinner. Went with my best friend for dinner, didn't know what to expect. It was a bit hard to find (it's behind Bruno's foods), but once we did it was totally worth it. The waitors were very attentive and sweet, great service. Definitely a place you could spend hours in laughing, eating, and drinking. Everything we ordered was delicious and we'll definitely go back. The scallops and the cauliflower were yummy! I want to try the eggplant next time as the waitor said it's his favourite dish.
Beautiful Evening! Monday, Aug 6, 2012. A lovely adventure! The service was incredible, with explanations on preparation of various items, and advice on how much to order was perfect! The food was so interesting, beautifully prepared and presented. The wine list is very nice, with a wide selection of some excellent choices and the prices went from reasonable to expensive, which is to be expected in a restaurant of this caliber. The prices are mid-range to expensive, but given that this is what I would term a 'special celebration' destination, we were not surprised. We will certainly return, and the next time we will choose items that are all different from those chosen for our first time there, or we'll just choose the 'let us cook for you' option, to see what we get.
Desserts were interesting but not the main focus of this restaurant. However, the list of truffles from their 'sister' ice-cream/truffle outlet next door (XOCOCAVA) offered some fabulous selections and we all agreed that the salted caramel truffles enrobed in dark Valronha chocolate were to die for, especially when accompanied by a divine dessert wine.
Hey, Fancy Pants!. This restaurant used to be an exclusive hot spot for VIPs, but since management has changed, exposure to media and general public have caused a stir. Service is excellent, wine is overpriced, and tapas are unique and delicious. Almost $400 including tip and tax for 4 people. Don't think I will come back to Cava - Delicious food is not so hard to come by for a reasonable price. However, if I do return, I would be inclined to ask for the "Just Let Us Cook For You" option...
Wonderful Dinner!. Had a splendid dinner at Cava last night with my girlfriend. Service was fantastic, and we were not disappointed with any of the dishes (chose the 'let us cook for you' option). Pincho foie gras, the eggplant, seared sea scallops, and venison were all delicious. Highlight had to be the charcuterie with foie gras mousse, absolutely fantastic. The price points were reasonable given the portions, we were both stuffed by the end of the meal.
Wonderful experience overall. Kudos to the Chef!
Outstanding tasty. We stumbled on this place on an aborted jogging attempt and had the best dinner in a very long time. I wanted to try EVERY item on that menu.
Great food, good service. We were expecting Spanish inspired, but there were serious Latin American influences as well. Very good food, helpful service and we loved the selection of wines, some excellent Spanish wines that are hard to find elsewhere.
The attached chocolates place that specializes in exotic truffles makes dessert an absolute must too.
Amazing wine list, interesting tapas selection. They put an interesting twist on tapas, somewhat fancier that those found in Spain. The octopus was very tender and the foie gras was to die for. My party of 6, mostly tapas neophytes, was delighted with the food and the wine.
Cava, great night out. We came as a group of 6 for a school project on spanish cuisine. We let them cook for us, as recommended by our server who was very attentive to details. Tried many new items and was not disappointed with anything.
Cava is tucked away in an alleyway near Yonge St. and St. Clair St. in Toronto. Inside, they invested in beautiful art work to spice up the décor. The food was also beautifully presented and full of flavour. Here what I recommend (ranked in order of preference): 1. Cava charcuteria. It consisted of orange fennel salami, mortadella, breseola, chicken liver and foie gras mousse, all made in-house. I did not see this on their current menu, so perhaps this was a weekly special. I hope that Cava brings this dish back because this dish was memorable, with the mousse being my favourite. Charcuterie Dish 2. Grilled sardines “avalon” whic
You get the option of ordering from the menu or having them bring you food. We did a little of both. Oddly enough, the selections we made were mostly vegetables. The dishes our amazing waitress select
Cava Restaurant is literally a “hidden gem” as it is tucked away on the terrace of a plaza in Deer Park. The restaurant is owned by Chris McDonald, who formerly owned and operated Avalon, creating intricate tasting menus and later a cured-meat program that lives on at Cava. Most chefs who feature charcuterie on their menus were probably still in diapers when McDonald pioneered the movement. This Spanish restaurant and wine bar features a delicious list of small plates from Basque to Catalonia. As equally extensive is their list of wines, most notably a page-long Sherry section. While oenophiles will want to enjoy their wine by the glass (or by the bottle), at Cava the wine isn’t just made for sipping – it’s also used to infuse dishes such as the Gamay-poached foie gras. There’s no need for background music as dinner chatter fills up the space. I nabbed a seat at the bar and it was quite interesting watching the dynamic between the staff – can’t say I’ve seen such a steady flow of
With a fairly extensive tapas menu, there are a large number of choices and a particularly good vegetarian selection. We relied on the advice of Theran, our server, to narrow down our choices. His favourite dish is the pincho of Gamay-poached foie gras ($9), so we ordered one each given the small portion. Generally, I’m not a big fan of foie gras (based on taste and ethical reasons), but decided to try it anyways given the hyped up dish. Thick slices of cool foie gras sit
Flavour-wise, they almost all had interesting aspects. But the dried tuna flakes on top of the eggplant were most intriguing. I don’t really get how they went with the rest of the dish, and they didn’t really taste like anything to me, but as they sat on top of the piping hot eggplant they waved about in the steam in a fashion that looked most life-like, and they didn’t really stop until the plate was removed from our table. It was kind of creepy, kind of funny.
Cava is a bit of a hidden treasure in midtown Toronto. It’s a cozy environment but clearly its focus is on the food. The large menu can be overwhelming as it is full of descriptions and definitions that are truly foreign to many.
If you’re a fan of tapas, there’s really no better place in the city to go than Cava.
Have been meaning to go to Cava since beginning of the year but since it's a tapas style restaurant, I wanted to go with a few more friends since I won't be able to try much dish if it was just the of us. For several occasion, I tried to make a reservation but it was always full even if it was more than weeks in advance =( So when I know my Dad will be here, I thought it would be nice to bring him here to try out together and I make my reservation one month in advance for a Wednesday and it was completely packed =P Hanging Meat is always good =D Chipotle-Caramel Popcorn Love the stand and cone (^v^) and there's actually a hole on the table to hold the stand and there was only one hole... what if I order more than one portion cause fries are serve this way too. Great to munch on while waiting for the other dishes, love the spicy undertone of the sweet caramel. CAVA Charcuteria The pate was very smooth but not overly creamy but the other three was really average, nothing special... the 2
I got to taste some really cool tapas at Cava that night. I can't say I will go back anytime soon though because it is quite expensive (that's usually the danger of tapas anyway because you tend to order a lot of dishes and this time we left it up to the chef).
By the second day we sort of figured it out and we ended up having some amazing food. My favorite was an upscale restaurant north of downtown called Cava. It served an eclectic blend of Spanish and Latino influenced tapas, and also is a charcutería (Spani
As this was my first time walking into this establishment – my eyes were fixated on trying to understand what resembled a ‘periodic table’ of chocolate truffles.
Although I went to the restaurant late last year, the post is still relevant as many of the items I have ordered are still on the menu. Cava is tucked away in an alleyway near Yonge St. and St. Clair St. in Toronto. Inside, they invested in beautiful art work to spice up the décor. The food was also beautifully presented and full of flavour.
Here what I recommend (ranked in order of preference):
2. Grilled sardines “avalon” which consisted of 3 large sardines. This was an amazing value!
3. Eggplant with questo freso, honey and tamatillo sauce. I am picky with my eggplant dishes and not a fan of mushy eggplant unless it’s baba ghanoush. This dish was cooked to perfection.
4. Salt cod cake with piperade and chipotle crema. It was not overly salty and was packed with fish rather than tons of fillers.
5. Smokey octopus with clams, charred red onions, capers and mint. it had a great combination of flavours with mint to brighten up the dish. On their current menu, they have a “Pacific octopus and chorizo stew” which I am sure would be delicious.
6. Fresh corn tamal with wild mushrooms and pasilla chile-wild plum sauce. The presentation was beautiful!
7. Veal sweetbreads with radiccho-poblano chile salad and walnut vinaigrette. This was the first time I had sweetbreads and have had it at Scaramouche and Bar Isabel since. I enjoyed this sweetbread over Bar Isabel’s because it was extremely buttery, soft and savoury.
As for the Chipotle-caramel popcorn, it came in a cute cone and was great to munch on in between dishes. Because I did not taste the chipotle at all, it seemed a bit odd to be eating caramel popcorn at a tapas restaurant.
As for dessert, I was impressed with the creative description and presentation of their desserts including the lemon-pistachio baked alaska and the honey crisp tarte tatin with bacon brisee, and ginger-cardamom ice cream.
Great news is that Cava partners up with the chocolate store next store, Xococava for their truffles. They had unique flavours including black trumpet mushroom, and coriander lime truffle that were worth trying, even at $2 for a small square.
As for drinks, they did not specialize in cocktails, but did have an extensive wine menu that nicely accompanied the tapas. As for the bill, I paid $55 including tax for all the food plus a virgin mojito, which was an amazing deal for all the delicious food!
Overall:
As Cavas had mentioned on their website, they are a restaurant with “small plates and big flavours”. If you love seafood like me, the menu will be sure to please. Aside from trying more menu items, I would come back to try the Paella which is a staple in Spanish cooking and take advantage of their half-price corkage fee on Sunday’s. Happy eating!
Good strange foods! I really enjoy the foods here. All of the dishes that we have tried are so new to my tastebuds! :p The server and the staff are really nice! There's one dish that we didn't finish cos I didn't realize I was allergic to that, then one of the server told us they will not charge for that! Amazing amazing service. Definitely coming back to CAVA!
Good food and service. There is parking right next to the restaurant so don't bother getting street parking. Be prepared to wait a little bit for the paella because it takes 40 minutes to cook. The lady at the next table made this mistake.
Oh. My. Lord. One of THE best dining experiences I have ever had in the 15 years of living in Toronto. The staff were absolutely amazing, extremely friendly and helpful. They knew the food and wine selection and pairings with the dishes.
As a Maritime native, I was blown away by the freshness of the seafood, flown in from Azure freshly caught last night! A treat fit for the Gods, I dare say Poseidon would approve. That Sablefish and rice dish is still on my mind. The atmosphere made the dining experience that much more satisfying. I think my partner and I will be talking about that dinner for weeks.
We were a large group, probably 20, and they had no problem getting us seated. So rest assured they take larger reservations, or perfect for a dinner date.
Will definitely be returning and recommending it to friends and family!
