The dumplings are as delicious as everyone says! I tried the shrimp and pork dumpling and totally loved it. The service was decent. However, Summer is knocking and the restaurant can get pretty busy and filled. It’s also a pretty small space with little ventilation so I waited outside with friends. Restroom isn’t too great either. But The food is definitely worth it!

Dumpling house is one of my favourite go to spot for dumplings, they are definitely in first spot for me. You can get them steamed or pan fried. Pan fried is life changing ✨ (I got the pork) but there’s a few other options to chose from too! I also got their house special noodles - which included beef, chicken, and shrimp. Delicious 🤤🍗🍤🥩🍜 ($11.99 each)

Dumplings didn’t taste that different even though we got two flavours. The spicy chicken was the highlight who would have thought. Only cash is understandable but still you will be dinged some extra fees at their atm. We tried the pan fried dumplings but i wouldn’t be surprised if their steamed dumplings were similar.

Our favourites are the Soup Dumplings, Spicy Boiled Beef and Cumin Lamb. The Spicy Sliced Pork is supposed to have eggplants but I couldn’t fine or taste any. That’s a bit disappointed. But overall, The taste of the food are complex, spicy and tasty! They are famous for their boiled dumplings, had a couple of times and it was good. Our favourite is the Pork, Chive and Shrimp Dumplings🥟

Amazing spot not just for dumplings but noodles as well! Loved the services as well, you can just tell this place is serious about their food. Would highly recommend.

The best dumplings ever, other places don't even compare. Their pan fried dumplings are super fresh, crispy and hot. Also the eggplant dish tasted so good and shanghai noodles are 🔥 Prices are affordable too! I've come here a lot 😊

I stopped by for a quick bite so the family and I only tried a couple of types of dumplings. They were freshly made and the service was fast. Prices were reasonable as well, so I'd be happy to return to try some of their other dishes, and would certainly recommend this place at least for their dumplings.

If you love dumplings, you will like this place. We ordered a mix batch of steamed dumplings and a mix batch of fried dumplings. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned well. I tried noodles and chicken kung pao as well. I felt they were tad bit oily but overall the taste was good.

Horrible dumplings. The coating was thick and not enough filling. The service was pathetic and extremely rude. They gave us the bill while we were still eating.

Ordered 3 different types of dumplings and they were all pretty good but nothing that special. I thought the skins were on the thick side but they had good flavour. Service was quite mediocre but what you’d expect from a place like this but was very prompt and we did not have to wait long for food.

Reasonable volumie Chinese cuisine restaurant. So many kinds of dumpling include steam, boil and pan fried. There is no Syou-Ron-Pou. I just hope its a perfect hygiene place.

good food. had the 3 different steamed dumplings for $11.99. prices have gone up. still good value for price. the dumplings (5 of each) came all together on one plate. hard to determine which was which until you bit it. did not like the spinach and mushroom as it only seemed to have spinach and was very bland. <br/><br/>overall it was a good experience. I had to wait to get my change back. I would have tipped more if I got it back sooner. <br/><br/><br/>

I come to Chinatown regularly and had been here before and liked their dumplings before, but the business has gone DOWNHILL since. The plates came in and had a few black spots, the dumplings were not nearly as good as before and the flour was downright RAW. Also I agree with another reviewer but that manager/business owner is crazy and I mean time. When we got the change wrong SHE TRIED TO HIT US, and she kept the change for herself and didn't return the right amount (she will STEAL TIPS from your change back). They don't accept credit card here, CASH ONLY and when you get your money back COUNT YOUR $$$. We just had the WORST experience ever!<br/><br/>Having been here quite frequently during my time at the university next door, I thought I knew what to expect from this place – decent food but minimal service. BUT I was totally wrong. The service yesterday was TERRIBLE and HORRIFYING. <br/><br/>(This review ended up too lengthy, but I wish everyone to have a look at it so that they don’t have to go through the same horrible experience.)<br/><br/>First, I had to stand in line and wait for a table for four, but because there was not enough space for four people to stand and wait, three from our group decided to stay right outside. When I finally got the table, I texted others to come in. In this brief moment of two minutes before everyone took their seats at the table, the female owner/manager irritably yelled at me five times and asking when everyone was coming.<br/><br/>Once everyone was seated at the table, the same female owner/manager literally THREW the menu onto our table like she was throwing Frisbee to a dog.<br/><br/>Anyways, we ordered four dishes including two dumplings – one steamed and one fried. Two other dishes from the kitchen were served pretty soon. The fried dumpling was served about 15 minutes later. The plate the dumpling was served on was covered with oil all-over and greasy as hell.<br/><br/>When we had the first three dished finished and waited more than 15 minutes for the steamed dumpling, because we could see the male owner/manager in the front kitchen scrubbing the kitchen walls with a soapy detergent, my girlfriend asked a waitress if the order of steamed dumpling was on its way. The waitress irritably told us to just wait as if we were annoying to her. It took another 10 minutes before the steamed dumpling was served at last.<br/><br/>While we were still eating the steamed dumpling, the female owner/manager again literally THREW the bill onto our table. Although we could easily see that the hand-calculated total price was incorrect and slightly higher than supposed to be (intentionally? or by mistake?), because I just wanted to leave the place as quickly as possible I put down $60 (Three $20 bills) with the bill on the table. (They ares still accepting CASH ONLY in 2018).<br/><br/>Seconds after, the same female owner/manager was probably too eager to grab my money, she even left USED and DIRTY cups from another table on our table when she took the money with her.<br/><br/>Because the (incorrect) final bill was $47.50, I was expecting to receive $12.50 change back. Then, I would leave some on the table in most of the time if not always. (I was probably going to leave $7.50 on the table because I hate carrying coins.) However, when the female owner/manager brought back the change to the table, she grabbed a $5 bill from the change without asking, and only told me that it was for 10% tip. <br/><br/>Because I wasn’t ready to accept such attitude, I told her to give $5 back to me first. She kept saying “No! 10% Tip!”. I tried to explain that I would tip if I am satisfied but I was not pleasant with the attitude. But she didn’t seem like understanding or listening, she just kept saying “No! 10% Tip!”.<br/><br/>The female owner/manager then asked a waitress to speak to me. But the waitress just kept telling me that the tipping is for the service. This time I told the waitress that I would leave a tip if I was happy with the service and that because of the attitude of the female owner/manager I wanted $5 bill back first before I decide how much to tip. Then the waitress asked what my ethnic background was (What?!). When I answered back, the waitress told me that I was not tipping because of my cheap ethnicity (WHAT?!!!!). I could not believe that I was hearing such RACIST comment in public in in 2018.<br/><br/>Now the female owner/manager told me to pay her $4 tip to get the $5 bill back (WHAT?!). At that moment, my girlfriend wanted to just leave, she gave her the money. <br/><br/>Upon leaving the restaurant, we heard the same waitress yelling a F*** word behind our back. We asked the owner/manager for the apology from the waitress, but could only hear the female owner/manager saying “No” and “I don’t know”.<br/><br/>I WARN EVERYONE TO AVOID THIS PLACE.

This review is not about food, rather the insane way a simple inquiry was handled by the employees. My father made it aware that while I left the table, our waitress told him along with handing over the bill, that he "better keep in mind to tip 4% minimum". <br/><br/>Who in their right mind talks to a customer like this? Was it something about his casual attire that didn't allude to the fact that he is a very generous customer, who ordered a table full of food for us? OR was it the fact that he had an East Asian appearance, so she felt she could act however she feels to another fellow Asian person?<br/><br/>When dad went to tell the manager about this incident, and I was standing nearby waiting, another waitress saw, and for a unknown bizarre reason - Felt it was a good idea to physically shove into me, not only push, but shove me so hard that i staggered. She was also holding something hard, a serving tray? So she saw a man raising a complaint and decided to... Shove his daughter.<br/><br/>The conclusion is that the manager/owner, the lady who often has a very harsh voice and nasty attitude (yes we've eaten there lots of times, never again), politely said that the waitress was probably just making sure a customer knew to tip, since tip is not included in the bill. OK, her attitude wasnt as atrocious as the "shover" or the "tip demander", but this atmosphere is not recommended. Run a business, but don't be insane.

The dumpling house offers great food for a good price. The menu offers sufficient for everybody to have a great lunch.<br/><br/>Definitely worth a recommendation.

Tens, tens, tens across the board. If you ever want to know what time most restaurants close in downtown Toronto it’s generally that. For that reason we found ourselves in Chinatown, and Dumpling House Restaurant, which is closed Tuesdays but open until 11pm on all other nights. Late Night Dining

I liked the Pork & Chinese Cabbage one slightly more but both were just as delicious. I liked how the steamed dumplings were full of stuffing and yet the dumpling skin was still smooth. Most importantly, the dumpling skin wasn’t too thick or starchy.

Me and a group of guys drive from Peterborough ( hour and a half or so) for dinner and a show. This place is so good that I have found a local restaurant that sells dumplings to fill in until I can come back. Another winning dish is the house noodles. Will be in Toronto on Friday the 18th and will be rocking some food for sure !! Thanks dumpling house, you the bees knees

Best dumplings in Toronto. Highly recommend their pan fried dumplings and singapore noodles.Only downside is they are cash only, but it's worth it.

Great little dumpling house near on Spadina and Dundas. Delicious steamed dumplings for very affordable prices. Decor was good and service was curt but fast as one would want for such a busy establishment. Would definitely go again!

A classic Chinatown place, located right in the center is a good option to have some dumplings. The service is fast and food is nice. Con's : don't sell alcoholic beverages.

Very satisfied with our lunch here.  We ordered the pork/fennel steamed dumplings and the pork/shrimp pan-fried dumplings, both were very good and the filling had lots of flavor. Also got the kung-pao chicken, would could have used more heat but otherwise good, and the cucumber salad which was much larger than we expected and tasted fresh.  <br/><br/>Service was also better than expected, the owner was walking around and making sure everyone was all set.  <br/><br/>Great value and great food.  Will return!

This is small restaurant in heart of Chinatown and serves amazing dumplings. I am sure we all have tried steamed ones but fried ones are amazing here. Owner and staff of this place are very friendly and helps everyone in ordering food. It's pocket friendly and everything over here tastes really authentic. Place gets crowded in the evenings and when ever I go there is always queue.

The dumpling festivities continue but this time in Toronto. We were beside Dumpling House after our foot massage so it would have been irresponsible not to stop in for a few bites.<br/><br/>Love how you can see the dumplings being made fresh from outside the window. There’s three of them working like little bees non-stop.<br/><br/>While we waited for a table inside, we got to watch the open kitchen do their thing. It’s small, cramped but they make it work. The wait was only about 10 minutes. <br/><br/>- Green onion pancake (#50) ($4.99) - simple but delicious. Sometimes simple and fresh is best although the pancake was pretty greasy.<br/>- Wonton soup (#87) ($5.99) - broth was excellent and the wontons were even better. Small but packed full of flavour. <br/>- Lamb meat dumplings (#8) ($8.59) - you get 15 steamed dumplings. Lamb dumplings are my favourite and these were absolutely money. The filling tasted gamey, just the way I like ’em. None of this subdued lamb flavour garbage. <br/>- Fried pork & chive dumplings (#17) ($7.99) - 12 pan fried dumplings. We went with the standard pork and chive dumplings which hit the spot. <br/><br/>Everything at the Dumpling House was freshly made, fast, tasty and cheap. Not sure what else you’d want but we were satisfied.

Horrible service! Do not go to this place. We were seated for 15 mins and no one in the restaurant acknowledged our presence (and there was only one other customer). When we finally ordered and got our food - the steamed dumplings were shabbily made and the skin was thick. The pan fried dumplings were extremely oily. They also argued about not adding everything on the bill (taxes, extra bottle of water) and charging more on the total. If I could give this place a negative star I would.

Go here for a grease fix after a day or two of straight drinking. I got pan fried dumplings which were good but greasy as usual. I also ordered some noodles which they forgot to make but they charged me for it. So when I pointed it out they apologized and made some to go. Also beware that this place is cash only. Meaning the owner pockets all the tips and probably evades most of his taxes! Also my bill was $24. Add taxes to it and it's $27.12. I got a bill of $30 even! The owner does this quite often as this isn't the first time I've been here. He does this very benignly to look like that's the total with taxes. But he adds a few $$ to it and you wouldn't suspect it if you don't do the math again yourself!! W e i r d! So beware!

Great place at Chinatown ... though I live at markham ...I would travel to come to eat it's dumpling ... place is small n most of the time crowded n congested though

I've walked by the dumpling house many times and always saw people making fresh dumplings inside. Through the window I saw the dough being shaped. Then each pocket size dumpling wrap would be filled with a spoonful of meat filling. So, I was eager to taste these dumplings and glad that I finally did!😊<br/><br/>Dumpling house offers various types of dumplings either steamed or pan fried. Their specialty is actaully the pan fried dumplings. It really intrigued me to see how the crispy exterior looked. An entire sheet of crispness, resting over the plump dumplings! Overall, they were good but in all honesty, it was not extraordinary and a tab bit on the greasy side. The steamed dumplings were however very good! They were plump with loads of meat, juicy and very favorable as the meat was well seasoned🙄. The dumpling skin was chewy and had a very good bite!<br/><br/>I think the dumpling house offers very good tasty dumplings. There are also other items on the menu that will satisfy your taste buds if you fancy Northern style Chinese food! Will I be back? Yes! Definitely when I have my dumpling cravings!😆🖒<br/><br/>

Steamed Dumplings much more flavourful than Fried dumplings, except the fried lamb one was pretty good. <br/><br/>You can get a plate with 3 different kinds so you can try out multiple flavours without ordering too much. <br/><br/>Quite a bit although still limited seating.

The dumplings at this busy, bustling location really hit the spot. <br/><br/>I ordered a variety of the 'steamed' and pan-fried dumplings to share. A green-onion pancake was also ordered.<br/><br/>At first, my friends were little skeptical of the green onion pancake, because it looked really greasy. It was, however, delicious and crispy, with a wonderful buttery flavour. <br/><br/>The steamed dumplings, which were actually boiled dumplings, were really delicious. We went with the three different fillings which were: pork and chive, pork and cabbage, and spinach and black mushroom. I loved the filling inside all of them, but they were a little too doughy for my liking. The wrapping wasn't paper-thin, as I am afforded that luxury at New Northern Dumplings. <br/><br/>The pan-fried dumplings were one of the best I had. We also ordered the variety which were pork and chive, shrimp and pork and fried spinach and mushroom. They had a wonderful crispy outside and the filling was also delicious. <br/><br/>For 15 steamed dumplings, 12 pan-fried dumplings and a green onion pancake, our total came to $30, including tax and tip. For about $10 each, we left full. This meal was well worth it.

It's dinner time in Chinatown.  The choice came down to a BBQ restaurant versus a Dumpling restaurant.  There seems to be quite a crowd built up inside this restaurant so dumplings it is!  It's not a big restaurant, so be prepared to literally rub elbows with the other patrons.  They have steamed or pan fried dumplings as well as more traditional dishes.  You can also order soup noodles as well as fried rice or noodles as well.  We decided to order a  pork and chives pan fried dumplings as well as a steamed pork and bok choi dumpling.  The pan fried dumplings came first and the individual dumplings were still stuck together due to pan frying stage.  You would have to break perforated patterns to separate the dumplings.  It was very tasty and the wrap was thin with lots of light, crispy texture.  The steamed dumpling on the other hand had a thick wrap which is fine when eating it hot.  As it cools down, you end up chewing on a lot of flour which is not desirable.

Shame as the food was good but owner decided to abuse his wife (??) in front of a full resturant at top of his lungs. When people intervened he shouted at them and told them he doesn't care or need their business. First time I have seen this happen in a restaurant. Half the resturant ended up getting up and leaving. Don't support this goof.

The dumpling here at Dumpling house are always hot, fresh and delicious. My go to items are the steamed shrimp and pork dumplings, as well as the fried lamb dumpling. With that I order a side of zha- jiang noodles, which is a generous portion served with noodles, minced pork, cucumbers and cilantro tossed in a sauce.  There isn't much seating and it's always busy so i wouldn't recommend going with big parties

Dumpling house on Spadina near Dundas has been an institution in Chinatown for as long as I remember. Walking by, I’d always pause at the store window and watch the ladies expertly roll out wrappers and fold dumplings at a lightning pace. Today, there’s a handful of new dumpling restaurants in Chinatown but I still like like the classic.

Great food at affordable prices. This is definitely a hidden gem in Chinatown that I recommend for all dumpling lovers. If you are not a dumpling fan there are plenty of other choices on the menu to choose from. Only reason I am not giving this a perfect 5 rating is because we felt like we forced to eat quickly due to the traffic in the restaurant; the staff took our dishes away the second we put the last bite in our mouth. Overall, a must try!

Solid dumplings – both the boiled and fried dumplings were great, however, the fried ones were a bit on the greasy side. There was a lot of variety, pricing was fair, but it gets really busy during peak hours, because you know, people need to have their dumplings.

I went like 4 times and it was OK... the last time I ordered some dumplings and there was a HAIR on it. I called the waiter and told him about the hair and that I didn't want it anymore. The owner, an old lady that is on charge of the kitchen went CRAZY, she start to cursing and point it on my table, like it was my fault. Then when I was going the old lady start yelling and saying the * word and showing the middle finger. I am NEVER going to be back on that restaurant. <br/>

Dumplings. Pot stickers and seafood dumplings are enough to make a substantial<br/>and economical meal. Lots of other options available. Fast service but<br/>not much atmosphere. I always order take out.

The Dumpling House Restaurant mistreats its workers. <br/><br/>-Tips are not shared with the employees - they go straight into the owner's pocket<br/>-The owner has withheld wages for mistakes made by the employees<br/>-The owner openly yells at and disciplines employees in front of the customers<br/><br/>Do not support a place like this. I won't be returning and I will tell all of my friends about the poor treatment of workers there.

Truly Amazing. Always loved dumplings, but these fresh made ones are so freaking goood. <br/>Every time you order the dumplings are prepared from scratch and cooked just for you. And you get so much food for the price you pay. Had the lamb, pork & chives, pork & shrimps sea food steamed dumplings, the pork & shrimp fried dumplings. The sweet & sour pork and beef brocoli. Everything was so delicious. This is an authentic mom & pop restaurant. Worth the detour. Its w shame we don`t have that in Montreal :-) until next trip.

I loved the dumpling house. I ordered the pan friend pork and chives dumplings and it was great! Truly authentic. The restaurant is located in the heart of china town. So get ready for people to want you to buy their products.

Dumplings!. These are very good, you can see them how they cook them from fresh, they actually have some finesse on assembling these dumplings that I dont see in other places. Prices are great! Take out is a bit slow but not sure how is to dine there.

Alarmingly delicious.. Where else in the world can you spend $15, get the best dumplings you've ever tasted, the largest, most delicious fried rice order, and have left overs to take home?<br/><br/>I'll give you a hint: nowhere.<br/><br/>Everything on the menu that I've tried at the Dumpling House is amazing. The dumplings, rice, soups, etc. You really can't go wrong at this place.<br/><br/>Just a warning: eating their dumplings will make you hate everyone else's dumplings.<br/><br/>The only complaint I have is that the serving staff seems to turn over on a ~6 month basis, and sometimes they have a hard time understanding orders. I won't stop going back. Ever.

So True, So Delicious. Possibly the best Chinese food and dumplings in all of Chinatown. Authentic in every ingredient, preparation, and taste. And it's not just in the dumplings, it in the more traditional dishes too. From the jellyfish to the thousand year old egg. It's like experiencing years of pure culture in one single bite. I've already been there twice, once by myself, and other with my best friend. and let me tell yeah, it's even more fun when you experience that same feeling with others. Good food really does bring good friends together. So take my advice; if your planning on your Chinese Dinner Night (either just you, or your friends and family) head on down to The Dumpling House right in the heart of Chinatown.

We brought our own and they wouldn't let us use it. Service was fast food was great. Price was great. We spent $60 (including 20% tip) and had a lot of left overs. Not used to that much food. I wouldn't go with children who needs a high chair but if they can sit in a normal chair then this place is great. A side from the BS with the high chair and baby changing staion. We gave 6.5 thumbs up.

The food was delicious! I must admit, I was worried about eating here because the restaurant had health safety problems a few years ago, but things must have improved because I have been hearing a lot of positive reviews; I finally gave it a try and I am glad I did. The panfried dumplings were beautifully cooked ($6.99 for 12) and the menu had a lot of interesting cold dishes. My favorite was "tofu with thousand year old egg." It sounds weird, but for $4.99, give it a try at least once!

Best dumplings in TO. The Dumpling House has the best dumplings in TO but they also serve the best (in my opinion) Hot and Sour soup!! Recently renovated this small place is often packed with fans of their dumplings. Pan fried or boiled they have an array of choices and the price's are amazing.

Fried or steamed, best in the city. You can watch them prepare the dumplings in the window. Yummmmm

Not as good as Mother's Dumpling but still excellent. I find their dumplings are on the greasier side, and their boiled/steamed dumplings aren't as good as Mother's Dumplings. Still it's great flavour. The downside is this place is way too small.. it's so crowded that it's slightly uncomfortable.

Best dumplings ever!!. Great for vegetarians. Try the pan-fried spinach and black mushroom dumplings as well as the spicy tofu dish! Service can lack a little, but totally worth it.

The dumplings taste like heaven in your mourh. every time i am in the spidina area I have to stop by. Dinner for 1 less then IMF um dull

Best dumplings ever. True to its name, they make the best dumplings! Fresh, made right in plain view. Both steamed and fried dumplings were delicious. The noodles and hot and sour soup were great too and cheap! Big portions. Found about it on Lonely Planet travel book and would definitely go back next time I'm in Toronto. It is a small "hole in the wall" kind of place in Chinatown, but if good, fresh Chinese food is what you are looking for at an amazingly low price, this is the place to go!

Exactly what the name says good dumplings at a good price. Nothing more, nothing less. I wouldn't bring a date, but a nice takeout snack

Get the frozen dumplings to take home. Never ate here due to the health warnings and blogger photographs of our rodentian friends feasting in the windows, but I regularly buy the frozen dumplings by the half-dozen and full-dozen to go. Great to put in your freezer and pull out when you feel like hand-made dumplings. Just steam them, pan fry them, and/or serve them up with your favourite ramen soup packages with fresh veggies and sesame oil or vinegar - yum! The lamb is great, the beef excellent, and the pork/shrimp are classic.

Fabulous Dumplings. The Dumpling House is so small it is easy to miss, but walking by would be a big mistake. This tiny restaurant produces some of the finest dumplings I have ever had. The tiny kitchen at the front of the restaurant makes both steamed and fried dumplings. The fried dumplings come surrounded by a lace-like garnish of fried pastry starch, awesomely good when dunked into vinegar. I have ordered other items from their menu, which are OK, but a waste of time compared to the dumplings. I particularly recommend the fried pork and shrimp dumplings. Some dumplings can by ordered in combination to make up a dozen and others by the half-dozen, but live large and order a full dozen. The service is always fast. The surroundings are not fancy, but who cares? It is on Spadina, so forget about parking. No liquor license, drink tea.

By the time I set foot in the restaurant it was already noon, and by this time the restaurant had a good amount of customers inside. It didn’t take very long for my wife and I to get a table or to place an order… I was starving! To get started we ordered two dumpling dishes. First up was the shrimp and pork fried dumplings. All dumplings at this restaurant are prepared from scratch and served with a savory sauce. The shrimp and pork dumplings were tasty and crispy, but just a bit too oily for my liking.

I am a huge fan of “Free Tours By Foot” food tours in NYC. One the reasons I love them is because you don’t have to pay for food in advance (what if you don’t want to eat everything on the tour? Why pay for something you may not want? And who wants to pay the full price and only get samples?). So, you get the opportunity to explore the city, while visiting different food establishments along the way. It’s a win-win. Kensington Market is one of Toronto’s most unique neighborhoods and retains its charm and wonderful diversity through its eclectic mix of vintage clothing stores, Latin American grocers, fresh produce, cafes and watering holes. Kensington Market is the spot where all culinary worlds collide–and the result is nothing but a food-lovers dream. And to top it all off, the prices can’t be beat! You can easily get a full meal for under $10! The plan was to meet at Cafe Pamenar @ 11am. Once we were all together, I reviewed the plan with the group. We were going to go to the following places in this order: Jumbo Empanadas for empanadas and corn pie Seven Lives Tacos and Mariscos for tacos Emporium Latino for pupusas and tamales Dumpling House Restaurant for dumplings and finish off with a churro from Pancho’s Bakery Unfortunately Seven Lives was closed and while walking towards Emporium Latino, and checking-in on Yelp, I learned that El Arepazo was offering a check-in deal–if you check-in to Yelp, you get an arepa for 50% off. This deal was too good to pass up! So these were our actual stops: Cafe Pamenar El Arepazo for arepas Emporium Latino for pupusas and tamales Dumpling House Restaurant for dumplings and finished off with a churro from Pancho’s Bakery 1. Cafe Pamenar is a cozy coffeehouse with a front and back patio. They offer an array of hot/cold coffee options and paninis. The dumplings are great (as good as Mother's Dumplings? up for debate) and inexpensive. I do recommend going there to eat but the real deal is the frozen bags of dumplings. They're available in any flavour on the menu and it's $10 for three bags of a dozen. That's $3.30 per bag! That's 27 cents per dumpling! GO! Get them now!! One bag is a satisfying dinner for one. To cook, thaw the dumplings, heat some oil over medium heat in a skillet with a lid and place the them flat side down in the oil. Let them sit until the bottoms are golden brown (about a minute) then pour 1/2 a cup of water in the pan and cover for 3-4 minutes. Take the lid off and let any remaining water boil off. Serve the dumplings with a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts soy sauce to dip them in.

One thing that I think is really distinctive about this restaurant is that the dumpling dough actually has flavour.

If a restaurant has “dumpling” in its name, just stick to the dumplings.

I have been craving dumplings lately so my mom and I took a little journey into Chinatown and landed at the "Dumpling House". We walked in wet with snow and it was packed. It seemed that a lot of folks decided on the same journey to eat the home made dumplings that are on display being made in their front window. We finally got seated and my mom and I set off to order our feast. The menu has an abundance of dumpling options from pan fried to steamed and various ingredients used as the dumpling stuffers from the standard pork and chive to fennel and pickled vegetables. We just ordered the classics which were steamed pork and chive dumplings and pan fried pork dumplings called ' waaar tip '. We also couldn't resist ordering one of my mom's favourite dishes which was a pan friend onion pancake. Oh, and we didn't stop there as the menu also highlighted many favourite Chinese dishes that I don't typically eat anymore for dinner so we ordered a soup noodle dish with pickled vegetables - it's

If you're craving dumplings..and lots of them...this is the place to go in Chinatown. The portions are big, flavours yummy and authentic and prices incredibly reasonable. The service isn't always the nicest but they are usually fast. This is my go to place for a dumpling, noodle and Chinese snack fix. Definitely try the zha jiang mien (noodles) - it's one of the best I've had and the portion is huge. Their wood ear mushroom and seaweed side dishes are yummy too and portions are big. <br/><br/>Don't bother going to Mothers Dumplings - seriously it's not worth it since Dumpling house is so close and it's wayyy better.

I chose the Dumpling House Restaurant as one of our stops because the reviews were consistently good, and $6 for 12 dumplings seemed like a great deal. Sure, there are cheaper dumplings in Chinatown, but I wanted to visit a restaurant whose dumplings came highly recommended. Unfortunately this restaurant only takes cash, and there is limited seating available. The ordering process was hectic, and confusing, so I quickly ordered steamed and fried dumplings, paid the cash and waited outside with my group. I did have to go in a few times to check if my order was ready because communication was poor, that I had no idea whether the staff would attempt to call me in when my order was ready. The actual dumplings themselves were good, and they did not lack in filling. The portions were generous, and most people admitted with shock that they did in fact prefer the steamed dumplings! This would be a place I would check out again, except that I would probably try to dine-in next time. Waiting around on the sidewalk on Spadina on a weekend is madness!

For some reason I keep on coming back. I love the crispness of the fried dumplings and the steamed one are very good too. Sometimes I feel like they are too thick, but the stuffing never disappoint. The service is good as well. The only thing that I don't like is that once a dish is ready, they put the piece of paper with the order written on it on the food to inform the waitress what is what.
