Review Le Select Bistro - Toronto

mk
Excited to say the that this stalwart reopened! We had to give it a try on this their first week. Great to see some of the original service/bar team back. We sat out on the patio on a great evening. The menu is pretty much the same as we recall. The food was excellent! The service was also wonderful and warm. Our apps consisted of traditional French fare, Deviled Eggs & Escargot. For our mains I enjoyed my goto dish, the Cassoulet with the Duck. The rest of our group enjoyed Sea Bass that they said was wonderful. Let the pics tell the story. Their Apple Tart dessert was off the charts delicious! It was a perfect desert to share family style with our 4some. Boy we’re glad Le Select is BACK!

Came here for brunch on July 24th after over 2 years of waiting for them to open back up! Totally worth the wait. I had the steak & eggs - the steak was cooked perfectly, was nice and juicy, and the eggs were done how I like them, and I loved the addition of the au jus poured over them. My wife had the Tarte du petit dejeuner and loved it as well. Marco was our server - he is an excellent member of the team, knows his stuff well and was on point with absolutely everything. He took fantastic care of us and is the kind of server you want at your restaurant! Very pleased with everything overall and can't wait to come back for more meals!

First time experience of a future regular. Having just returned from Paris, finding this gem down the street was an unexpected treat. Service, quality, and ambiance all 5star.

Love this spot! Have been many times, great menu and atmosphere! The patio is so pretty in the summer and the restaurant is so cozy and romantic in the evening/night. Food is delish! Edit 07-06-22 Beyond happy Le Select is back and better than ever! Was very pleased to see some additions to the menu. The lamb is divine. Same beautiful bustling atmosphere. Really appreciate the personal hello from Yasha - those little touches go a long way to make an excellent dining experience! Well done.

I dined on the patio on the 2nd night of reopening and had a great experience. You would not have know that the restaurant was newly reopened. The service was seamless and friendly and the food was amazing. My group enjoyed every dish we ordered. The patio had a great ambiance. I will definitely return. Our server was Bryce and he did an excellent job.

Le Select was one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto before COVID. When it closed I was deeply upset and had already lost the hope that they would reopen one day, until… Early this no the they weee back! I was so excited and have to say the the food is as good as it was before! They have long selection of wine, the staff is super helpful and friendly! We had eggs Benny and croque monsieur and everything was delicious, including the lime pie we had as a dessert! Only thing that they missed is that before they would serve a French baguette with butter before your main meal and they no longer do it. Other than that, Le select is still one of My favorite places to go in Toronto!

2nd day back in business! Our waitress Sophia was lovely and provided excellent service. The food was tasty and nicely presented. The menu however shrunk and some favourites are missing 🧐 no more lamb burger nor duck confit ? According to a rather arrogant and argumentative ,suit‘ this was a new restaurant and the menu was the new chefs creation. Note: nothing inside the restaurant has changed, but the menu…Not the best answer for a new business venture… well, best of luck! I hope you treat your staff better than your customers 🤨

Veru nice place to go<br/><br/>Went for lunch with my friend. The food was very tasty, the service was fast and very good. I had risotto with mushrooms and I really enjoyed it.

My favourite brasserie in Toronto which offers a French style carte du jour with excellent wines and correct attentive & knowledgeable service. In addition to the savoury dishes that have been reviewed here, leave some room for the excellent desserts - in particular the Tarte au Citron when it is seasonally available. Bon Appetit!

More like a family style French food. The onion soup is bit too heavy for me. We like the cod potato pate a lot, nice texture and absolutely delicious. The deer meat is also cooked to perfection. Overall it’s a bit pricy but great experience.

Omg I love this place. Came here for a little intimate wedding - food was amazing. The decor is very cute - just like how you would imagine a casual French bistro to be. Started with the French onion soup - was a little too cheesy for me but delicious regardless. I had steak frites for my main course - steak was cooked perfectly. It was super tender and just melts in your mouth. I did not have the lamb but the presentation was absolutely amazing and from other guests it tasted great too. Ordered the creme brulee for dessert - overall good but nothing that stood out specifically. <br/><br/>My experience at le select bistro was great and I would definitely return for the steak

Never, Ever Again in Le Select<br/><br/>We were served by a waiter – white, in his 30s, with short dark hair and beard, nice looking, about 70 inches high. This is what we, a group of 5, encountered at Le Select on August 27, 2016. <br/><br/>P1: His $16-burger with Moroccan spices and aromats, was about 2.5 inches in diameter and NO more than, I would say, 3 ounces. It was served with frites (not organic, regular chipped potato) as the only side on the same plate. While in some restaurants of the same class this kind of burger would be offered as an appetizer for about $12, at Le Select it was in the main meal menu. <br/><br/>P2: She noted that the gruyere cheese in her onion soup was now substituted with a less flavoured kind of cheese. <br/><br/>P3(I): With still 2/3rd of the food in the plate, I pointed out to the server that, the only slice of sweet potato in my $30 (before taxes and tip) TENDRON DE BŒUF, was slightly row. His response, I will tell that to the chief. Then he tried to take away my more than half-full bottle of bear without even asking. <br/><br/>P4: Since she has intolerance to some ingredients, she pointed out to the waiter that she would order chicken if it could be offered without the ingredients she named. The waiter said that he was going to talk to the chief. When he came back and told her that she could not be accommodated, she ordered fish instead. When the bill arrived, we discovered that the waiter had charged her for the chicken. When she complained, the waiter replied, “Sorry about that.” <br/><br/>I don not thing, at all, that this professional waiter has erred. Not to mention that while taking the orders at our table, he was writing down everything in his little book. If we had not noticed the charge for chicken that was not ordered, this waiter would put in his pocket nearly $30 in addition to the $40 tip we were considering – in total about $70 cash (tax evaded income).             <br/><br/>P5: At the time the waiter was writing down our order at the table, he asked P4 whether he wanted his glass of wine 3, 5 or 7 ounces. P4 clearly said “four ounces” and the waiter wrote something in his book. On the bill, however, the waiter had entered P4’s glass of wine as being 5 ounces (3 oz is ~$10, 5 oz is ~$17 - before taxes). As an average person can realize, the higher the bill is, the higher the profit and, of course, the tip. <br/><br/>I went to the counter to pay our bill. While holding my payment card, the waiter asked whether it was a debit card. I replied, “No, it is a VISA card.” He swiftly grabbed my card from my hand. I quickly replied, “I am not giving you may card,” took it back and asked what to do to pay the bill. He showed me the right side of a monitor and told me to swipe my card with the holding information line facing the right side. The card could not be detected 3 times. He told me to reverse it. I did and even tried to clean it but it all was in vain. <br/><br/>I handed my card to him when he asked. He swiped it a few time but it still could not be detected. I asked him why he did not use the payment terminal that was next to the computer on the left side. His response was, “It doesn’t work” although its lights were on, adding that the restaurant was using the old system. <br/><br/>He asked, again, whether my payment card was debit card. I, again, told him that it was credit card, VISA. Then he started to enter manually my credit card numbers in their computer system. I interrupted him by taking my card back while saying that I was not allowing him to enter my credit card information into their system. Then he punched on the touch screen a few times. Payment receipt came out from the printer with which he handed me. On the line where the amount of the tip should be entered, I wrote with crossed line two times “0” and then, beneath it, the total amount on the bill. <br/><br/>If you have questions, please contact me at:<br/>NinoPavarotti@gmail.com

The is gorgeous place with beautiful patio. Feels like you're in Europe. Excellent service and food. Had the croque Madame and the saumon tartare. Delicious

Love the cheese and wine selection here. The food was decent, but nothing special. The service, however, was EXCELLENT!  I also love the way it's decorated. The food didn't wow me, but I recommend others try it. It's probably still my favourite French restaurant in the city, so far.

Consistently good meals, attentive service, beautiful interiors (especially the large, bright room at the back of the restaurant). Affordable $35 prix fixe menu. Smoked whitefish terrine was amazing, as was the delicious salmon tartare. Red deer main was perfectly cooked, and the toasted barley accompaniment provided a great textural crunch. A bit oversauced, but hardly enough to remark on. The beef short rib main was the star amongst the mains. Decent wines by the glass, and extensive wine list.
Fashion Ecstasy
The whitefish terrine was amazing, the beef cheek was okay, but the chicken supreme was dry to a point we couldn't swallow. Salmon was a big portion but taste wise wasn't very good. Passion fruit sorbet was very sour which we liked a lot.

This French bistro is one of my favourite Toronto spots. I have been probably five times and have attended a wedding here as well. The French onion soup is a meal in itself and is so overwhelmingly good I can't describe it. You just have to go eat it.

Came without knowing that they were doing a special weekend brunch promotion, so I was a tiny bit disappointed when I discovered that they weren't offering their regular menu during the time. Was looking forward to having particular dishes... but oh well, next time!<br/><br/>I ended up getting the millet beet risotto with foraged mushrooms, parmesan cheese, and poached egg. The presentation was lovely and overall, it had a nice balance of different flavours/textures. The beets gave the risotto a rich ruby colour but other than that, I couldn't really taste the beets themselves. My mother makes a lot of millet porridge so the risotto (albeit well-made) seemed pretty standard to me.<br/><br/>Also tried a bit of the lamb burger, which was actually really good. It came with a large lamb meat patty that was moist, flavourful, and done perfeeectly.<br/><br/>One of the things I like about Le Select Bistro is its quiet and understated charm. I mean it's still an upscale French restaurant but it maintains a laid-back atmosphere that's partially due to its remote location away from other restaurants and the busier streets of downtown Toronto.<br/><br/>Oh, and they support sustainable food and farm practices! Most of their ingredients are local and organic. For example, I think they get their eggs from some Mennonite farm in Ontario. Wooo, Mennonite eggs~
The Little Red Spoon
Great French restaurant. We came here for a family birthday dinner. Unfortunately they were out of a couple of the wines we tried to order but the server was helpful in choosing some similar bottles. And she made sure our glasses were never empty.<br/><br/>I tried the cheese board to start (3 cheeses for $17 with bread and grapes) which was delicious and my boyfriend tried the charcuterie. Slightly odd that the charcuterie was served with a pate but no bread, but no biggie he just asked for an extra bread roll.<br/><br/>I had the mushroom risotto as my main course, and my god was it delicious. I haven't had truly proper risotto like that in years. And the foraged mushrooms were so tasty. Just a pleasure to eat. I was so sad that I wasn't able to finish it all and forgot to bring my leftovers home. I will definitely be going back to this place to order the risotto again and try a couple of the other veggie options (not many, but at least the ones they do have are incredible).<br/><br/>Everyone was too full to order dessert but they brought the birthday girl a little brownie with some gelato as well. We all passed it around and took a bite - very good! Whatever that gelato was, it was VERY good with a nice little kick of sourness and the brownie was delightful.<br/><br/>Overall, we were all very impressed with our food and the service and will absolutely be returning. Would recommend to anyone.

Came to Le Sélect Bistro for a Christmas GNO dinner. We loved it!<br/><br/>Service was great and the food quality was good. For my friends that drove here, they complimented on the availability of parking space.<br/><br/>DRINKS:<br/><br/>MERLOT/CAB <br/><br/>CONFIT DE CANARD (4/5)<br/><br/>(duck leg confit with crispy skin, served with veggies, potatoes au gratin)<br/><br/>Mm.. this was so yummy!! There's an option for one / two duck legs - I should've ordered two!! The duck leg size was not that big so if you're hungry I would suggest you order two duck legs. My friend and I grabbed snacks after dinner because we were still hungry.. but this duck confit was so delicious! I'd come back and order this again :)
Steak Me Out
We were seating in what was a classic french bistro style restaurant, with a quaint and charming atmosphere, unfortunately, I can’t say I felt the same about the staff. I was told to get the eggs Benedict by my friends but my eyes had found the foie gras on the menu and I was fixated, foie gras for breakfast, it had to be done. Served with french toast, poached pears and a couple of baked eggs it sounded like a rich and satisfying breakfast.

A unique French café on Wellington. Beautiful decor and atmosphere. A perfect cappuccino and delicious food. Slightly on the pricey side but a great place to eat and bring friends.

Food was great but service was awful. Made a reservation a week in advance for 5 pm. After twenty minutes of waiting we were able to get the attention of our waiter who told us he assumed we were just having a drink. He finally brought us the menus at 5:45 with the excuse that he was waiting for them to be printed which was a lie because I saw the hostess bring them out and start handing them to people at 5:05. I was really looking forward to this meal with my husband and it was ruined by this terrible waiter. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

"From the outside, Le Select Bistro advertises itself with a hard-to-miss patio tucked away in the shade, surrounded by greens and flowers - it speaks of serenity on Wellington."<br/>"If you are looking to work on your French dish pronunciation, Le Select is definitely the place to visit for your practice. Our waitress didn't leave a dish we pronounced un-corrected. "<br/>"As we dug in, we were surprised to find out that the duck meat did not fall off the bone as we imagined and craved. As a matter of fact, the meat was a bit on the dry side. The crispy skin made up for this short-coming. "<br/>A few bites from our full experience..

The food was not bad but not amazing. The steak was cooked nicely and the fois gras was yummy. But it was my birthday and they made me a chocolate moouse that I still can't forget until this day, it's been a year. It was so delicious and I can't taste it anywhere else. It's not on their menu but seems like they make it for birthday specials only. Maybe I will go back for my birthday just to have that chocolate moouse again.

The service was impeccable. Each plate was tasty. From my terrine appetizer to my steak tartare. The chocolate cake dessert was incredible. Thoroughly impressed by the place.

Interesting location for a French bistro. This stretch of Wellington Street, west of Spadina, is a mix of residential, small commercial buildings and light industrial buildings, with almost no retail or other restaurants. Yet the restaurant was reasonably full at lunchtime. I sat on the patio, under the typical Parisian retractable awning. <br/><br/>I was feeling adventurous today, so I decided to try Tuesday's special, which was Boudin Noir (blood sausage). I have never had this before, but I did find it interesting and tasty.

Loved this place. Went the other day for dinner. Great atmosphere and excellent service. My girlfriend and I got the duck confit as well as several other dishes. They were all delicious. I can't wait to go back. I think I'll give brunch a go.

There's no better a place to enjoy a Sunday breakfast with a good newspaper. Stylish French decor with lots of light. The staff can be a little unfriendly at times.

This care for what ingredients they use in their dishes seems to be a common theme throughout the menu. Le Select is a Local Food Plus 'Committed Partner' to local, sustainable, and seasonal farming (as seen in the fiddleheads with my duck confit). They're partnered with Vancouver's Ocean Wise program to source fish and seafood in an ethically sound way, and try to get red meat from grass-fed animals when they can. Overall, Le Sélect Bistro is a beautiful restaurant that will allow you to, even for just a moment, believe you're in Paris...

Chowed down on the French onion soup, lamb burger with a Moroccan twist and a arugula salad. What can I say but what a delicious and fantastic spot in Toronto. The lamb was grilled to perfection where the animal just melted in your mouth. And the French onion was just exquisite. The free bread was so good, my son ate four rolls! To end it all off the interior and atmosphere was just a beaut.

Love this place - Will definitely come back for more!. Me and my boyfriend decided to go to Le Select Bistro the day before Valentine's Day - but let's face it, Valentine's weekend is all about having reservations wherever you decide to go. And usually, service and food quality around Valentine's Day never tends to be that great because of the sheer volume of people, staff, etc. <br/><br/>But irregardless of how busy it was - Le Select Bistro was absolutely fantastic - from the front-desk service, to the waiter, to the speed at which food came out - and the ambiance. Everything was simply perfect. And more over - the most important thing was that the food was absolutely on-point - STUNNING! Everything had a special vibrance to it, the dishes were inspired, and there is really great attention to detail and food quality. <br/><br/>Love this place - will definitely come back for more! And the other added pluses - free parking on site and to the rear of the building (something that's very hard to come by in Toronto)!

Impressive as always. Long time patron since it's founding days on Queen and just wanted to add that we had a fabulous meal for our Christmas office lunch yesterday. It's effortlessly serviced spot on. There were 36 of us covered by only 2 waiters. Consummate professionals from start to finish. This kitchen knows how to take care of this size service. Every course came all at once steaming hot and delicious. Looking forward to our Christmas office lunch next year.

We are long time Le Select patrons. We were there late this past week, and it was fantastic. Amazing service and the Assiette de Fromage was ridiculously good. I love that they are open late.

Simply superb. Duck was prepared perfectly. My wife's lobster salad was outstanding. Service was as expected in a European themed restaurant. Not obtrusive but very attentive. Thoroughly enjoyable. Price and portions were as expected. Strongly recommended especially to those who value quality over quantity.

What a nice French food. It is such a nice and cozy place. I expected it to be pricey, but to my surprise many dishes were under $20. The food was great.

Did some research on Urbanpoon on my first night in Toronto and decided to go French and damn right it's the best choice! The crispy mackerel was amazing and very well balanced flavours, cocktails were good and dessert was decent. To top it off with friendly services. Definitely will return! Made my first night in town!

The Best. Absolutely brilliant French food in Toronto. Been going for years and they have the food alcohol and French atmosphere year after year, owner is a human being too

It was not expected at all, from drinks to appetizer to main course, disappointed on all of them. My gf kept complaining after dinner and we almost broke up.......
Diningouttonight
Magnificent! The food was beyond expectations. I had the cassoulet and it transported me back to many wonderful meals in southern France. Wine list is superb and service was very good, especially for Toronto. I really like this place and recommend it for fans of continental French food.

Disappointment. Walked in to a beautiful restaurant with a true bistro flare. BUT the FOOD left to be desired. It was not French. The onion soup was gravy with mozzarella cheese. Where was NO gruyere and onions???<br/>I found the onions on the steak instead of shallots.... REALLY????<br/>Very sad because the whole meal tasted the same. I've been there before for brunch and it was nice. So I brought a friend from MTL. Who is actually originally from France. It was a bomb!!! :( sorry my friend
Kerri Thurston
Delicious. Whitefish ceviche and mussels. Fantastic flavor and service! I will definitely eat here again!
Rachel Verboom
Great French selection. I love the food here, and the selection is great! Some of the choices are typically French, ranging from various types of tartare to duck confit. The quality of the food was spectacular as well. The patés are among my favorites. I notice a lot of people complaining about the slow pace of service, but having been to France myself, the service in French (or other European countries for that matter) restaurants is all about allowing the patrons to savour the atmosphere and food with minimal distraction for long periods of time - it's something North Americans just aren't used to. Therefore, the authenticity of this French restaurant is on point, and I quite like it.
Chranth
Don't bring someone you're trying to impress. I did. The place had been recommended, and the menu seemed appealing. And having recently returned from Paris was hoping to give a friend a taste of that. The place wasn't busy, so I don't understand why the service was as slow as it was. I don't mind paying for service when I get it, but we didn't see our server for more than a half hour after our wine was poured. When our meal arrived, she wasn't to be seen (just a busboy who dropped the food off and ran) so there was no one to complain to that the food was already cold. Having spent $275, I asked myself why, after having disappointed both friend and myself.
Avasarinsh
Tragic French. Slow service, charcuterie plate dropped at table with no bread with which to eat the pate. There was a 45 minute wait between appetizer & main course with no service at all. Entrees were a deconstructed beef borginion which was dry & bland (advertised as beef cheek tasted like pot roast reheated) & an ice cold lamb burger & fries. Waitress showed up to check 10 minutes afterwards, offered to reheat the burger saying there were several guests who had cold food that night...by that time we were 1/2 finished. Maitre D came later still & offered some warm fries and sauce, then left. No other attempt to make up for the delay or bad food. Don't waste your money here!!
Stephanie Fung Wolfe
Patio was the best thing about this restaurant. Otherwise the food was just fine and the service was wanting. The waiter actually charged two extra beers and didn't apologize for the mistake when we pointed it out.
Debbie Poon
Great food and service. Definitely recommend the bone marrow and mussels in the pulled pork butter. Both of which were the highlights of my meal.
Ian Marks
Absolutely phenomenal!

Always my favourite french bistro in Toronto... Good food and good service... Great wine cellar!!! Will be back for sure
Sugith
Authentically Parisian bistro where the food is fantastique! Reasonable and exhaustive wine list. Loud but in a good way. Diners are in such a good mood that when the staff brought a birthday dessert for me the entire banquette burst into song! We will be back.

So Good!. I have been there few times, for brunch and dinner. While it is a little on a higher price side, it was definitely worth it. The service was great, the food was delicious and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Perfect place to go there for a romantic date because the service and the food won't disappoint. Nice music playing on the background. Has a nice proper French restaurant feel to it.
Tony
Great spot for a nice french style brunch, the ommelette was very good, the toast bread is fresh , great coffee , not cheap but worth it , the surroundings remind me a french bistro , easy parking

The Closest Thing to France in Toronto. On a trip Paris a few years ago, we rented an apartment in the Marais to do the Paris thing. It was just around the corner from Brasserie Bofinger, one of the oldest in the city (some say the oldest.) Le Select is probably the closest place I've come across in Toronto that recreates the feeling of eating there. Sure, the homely stretch of Wellington Le Select inhabits isn't Rue de la Bastille, but you can easily forget that with the pitch perfect decor and authentic menu. If you can't make it to France, make it to Le Select.
Stratford
Bad Service. Judging by the number of patrons in the restaurant, I do not doubt that Le Select has great food but from the perspective of a potential patron Le Select fails miserably in offering a accommodation to those who have young children. The hostess and the older gentleman in front were definitely unhelpful and rude. We tried to get a table that could accommodate a baby stroller and when asked if they could accommodate, all we got was a "No". They do not think outside of the box in accommodating their customers with young children and frankly even if they had the greatest brunch in Toronto, I would not be interested in trying their menu. I was really disappointed with their service and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone that I know.
Lynn
Love it.. Delicious food. Busy and a bit noisy, but a great atmosphere. We will definitely come back.

Anniversary Redone. Had an awful experience dining experience at the top TD tower last week and had to do something to make it up to wife of just over 29 years. Searched near my home and found this highly rated Bistro nearby. We weren't disappointed. Service was excellent and the ambiance outstanding. My wife started with the Whitefish mouse and I had the stuffed Zucchini blossom. The Whitefish won this round, but both were very good. For mains my wife selected the Tuna and I chose the Pork on the servers recommendation. Both were very well prepared, but the flavor of the Pork was outstanding. They have good wine and beer selections. I am partial to craft IPA's and I was glad to see they had more than one available. Wish we had found this place earlier. We will become regulars.

Ok only. For the price they charged, I have experienced better food than this. The Beef bourguignon I ordered was OK but not spectacular. A lot of people who followed a good French cookbook can do the same. It was not a notch above. The garnish was bad. I have never seen bok choy and veg puree in beef bourguignon. With a claim as a traditional French Bistro, you may call me picky but I cannot accept that mainly because the taste of bok choy and puree does not match the taste of beef.<br/><br/>I had a salmon tartar and gravlax. OK only. There was not enough herb flavor in the gravlax. Is herb a financial burden to this restaurant? Tartar is bland and lack of flavours. A little bit of chopped herbs, shallots may help. Overall, everything is lack of fineness and depth. It is a little bit better than home cooking but far from being a bistro

Nice way to spend a Sunday!. Sunday brunch was wonderful - service, food, and drink were all first-rate. Patio seating was lovely. My husband and I enjoying splitting a bottle of champagne, enjoying brunch and dessert, and soaking in the summer day. Thanks for a most pleasant memory to take home from vacation!

Officially the most decadent brunch ever! Seared Fresh Foie Gras, on thin french toast with lardons, pears flambe in Brandy and a fig compote. Served with an egg en cocotte and a port maple sauce. The egg is in the little white pot, served with the yolk still runny. Basically, it ends up acting as a yolk dip - soooo Roman LOL

Just okay. We booked a table for 10 ppl right before Christmas this past year. We were looking forward to this dinner but the experience was mediocre at best. The wine was alright but mains were not impressive. A bunch of us ordered the braised beef but quality was not served, giving us something more like salted beef stew. The best entree ordered was the vegetarian one. Waitress was nice to us. Location was isolated and no where to hang out afterwards, except If you want to go to c lounge! <br/><br/>Will not try again until I ve done a full round of other restaurants.
Kotek
Oui!. Was there Saturday night for dinner with two friends. I had the lamb neck with seasonal vegetables, delicious, endive salad for starter, fresh and lightly seasoned, lovely, and for dessert the best creme brule I've ever had, creamy, smooth, rich with the thinnest of carmalized sugar crusts. My friends had the cassoulet and braised beef and were equally impressed with the flavour and quality. We brought our own wine which the waiter graciously uncorked for us. Overall a very nice ambiance and delicious food. Who could ask for more?

Is there a Wellington Street in Paris? I don't think so, but if there is then I hope it has a Le Sélect too. Foie Gras Terrine was sublime, the Bavette w/ Frites hearty and tender, and the Tarte au Citron transported me to the left bank. Excellent and well- priced wine list, incredible kids' menu, and attentive service combined to make it a perfect evening.
Serg
Food not as great as it used to be. Found it overpriced by a good 50% for the quality. It used to be better!

Prix fixe. The two of us ordered from the prix fixe. The duck confit was great - the duck itself, potatoes, and beans worked really well. For dessert, we liked the creme brule. The chocolate mousse was a really strong flavour which might be a little much for some. The wine selection is legendary, but there were some interesting beer options as well.

Absolutely amazing!. I went through countless reviews and online restaurant menus before finally deciding on Le Select Bistro to celebrate an anniversary with my boyfriend. We made reservations through their website for January 21st at 6:15pm. We were a few minutes late but, thankfully, the place was not very busy when we arrived (the same cannot be said for when we left!) I had requested a more private table in our reservation and mentioned that were celebrating an anniversary, and the restaurant was very accommodating. We were seated in the back dining room in a corner table. The lighting was low and romantic--a perfect spot!<br/><br/>Fresh, warm bread was delivered to our table (soo delicious). We ordered the escargots to start. They were good, not the best I'd ever had but the sauce was extraordinary! For our entrees, my boyfriend had the Saturday special (braised and smoked beef shortrib with a barley risotto), and I had the "Gigot D'Agneau Au Jus" (lamb leg, served with asparagus and potato croquette.) My lamb was delicious! (my only complaint was that it was cooked a little less than I had requested--medium rare instead of medium. But I think my server may have heard me incorrectly, as there was a large party a few tables away from us. It was delicious, nonetheless!) The asparagus was cooked perfectly and the croquette was divine.<br/><br/>I had a bite of my boyfriend's meal and it, too, was fantastic. The shortrib was smoky and fell apart in my mouth, and the barley risotto was perfection!<br/><br/>For dessert we shared the Tarte au Citron (approx $9). it was served with fresh fruit. Again, delicious! Along with our dessert we were surprised by two complimentary glasses of champagne from our waiter, who also wished us a happy anniversary. An extremely pleasant surprise (and it pretty much sealed the deal for us that we'd be back again!). The meal cost approximately $120 before tip. <br/><br/>My only complaints (apart from the aforementioned about my lamb being a tad undercooked) would be that the wine prices are a tad steep. The wine does not come in 6oz or 9oz glasses, as I am accustomed to, but rather in 3oz or 5oz glasses. A 5oz of the Les Jamelles Merlot '09 was almost $9 (but it was delicious and I'd highly recommend!). <br/><br/>Check out the wine cellar downstairs on your way to the bathroom, it's huge and beautiful!

Toronto Gem. Lovely atmosphere, great service, and beautiful food both in looks and taste.

Delicious. I had the french onion soup, duck confit and bouillabase. All were very good but I wouldn't order the bouillabase again. I'd rather try something different. Service was good and this place isn't too expensive. Good for a date!

Just like France. Heard about this place for a while and final went fro Sunday brunch. The food was great...but the ambience and the feeling a French bistro in Paris is truly the winner here. This place is perfectly, rustic French. Can't wait to go back.
Cheryl
Steak frites was tasty but a bit too salty. Creme brûlée was amazing.
Rebel
Nice restaurant I like the idea that he had guts enough to state his opinion on his website despite being a restaurant.

Tried to diversify by visiting other bistros, but none have compared to LeSelect. Best is foie gras, frites and goat cheese salad - you can fill up on this alone. Love the French service.

Great Brunch. Fantastic neighbourhood spot for brunch. Especially love the patio during summer months and the fresh bread served. A bit pricier for dinner, but good value for a nice brunch.

Excellent food. Excellent service, nice atmosphere that is designed with taste to make you feel like you are in Europe. Glad to see the owner is a gentleman and has a heart, love it.

Went here because we heard the owner is a real gentleman and has a social conscience. Great. But is the food any good? Yes, and more. The food is perfect. It is prepared in small batches with real care obviously. The atmosphere is very European. You could be anywhere in France. Very neat. All in all nearly perfect.

Good Food, Terrible Service. After coming back from spending a few months in France I began to develop a craving for some French food. Looking around it seemed that Le Select would be a good bet for a restaurant with good authentic French food with a solid wine menu.<br/><br/>Upon entering the restaurant everything seemed to be going relatively fine, other than a slightly sullen waitress who became even more unfriendly when we decided to switch from the patio to inside after taking a look at the dark clouds gathering in the sky. After being seated the menus were thrown on our table and despite this rough start we were optimistic about our meal. <br/><br/>The menu itself looked authentic with many dishes that we recognized from our time in France. After ordering our food and a bottle of red we began to realize the incredibly low standard of service. Having just come back from Europe we were used to a leisurely pace for dinner, however the length of this meal was not by choice - their service was terrible!<br/><br/>Some noticeable waits included:<br/>15 minutes to get our bottle of wine<br/>15 minutes to clear empty plates of the table<br/>15 minutes to receive dessert menus after cleared table<br/>15 minutes to take dessert order after placing menus down<br/><br/>The meal itself ended up being nearly 3 hours long when we actually really only wanted to spend 1-2 hours here. While we normally enjoy spending time at a restaurant, this was more of a drag and it was hard to enjoy ourselves while we were constantly waiting on the staff. To add fuel to the fire our waitress constantly put our bottle beside the hot candle and we were forced to move it ourselves.<br/><br/>Ignoring the horrendous service, the food was actually quite good. However, the service here has turned me off and I will probably look elsewhere next time I want French food in Toronto.

Some real french food in Toronto. My favorite place to go for a evening of great food, great service and great wine. JJ's has taken what he had on Queen St for years and took it up a notch. Try the steak tar tar and the beat salad appetizer .. you will not be disappointed !!
Adam B. Kahan
Did the owner indeed retract his assinine statement on Istael as has been reported!

Decent Food..Poor Service. Food was pretty good...BUT the poor service ruined my experience...I would not return.

Best Dining Experience. Very consistent service and food. Very delicious (French Bistro - of course it is).<br/><br/>Excellent for business entertaining or a romantic date. The atmosphere is very comfortable and stylish. Plenty or parking out front and the best wine selection in the city!

Not quite worth it. I don't think that the prices are that expensive, but for that price there are alot of options. I personally found it to be a disappointment. I had the salmon tartare which i found to be too oily, the foie gras was not what i expected, warm seared, but instead like a pate. I felt a little ripped off. The service was very dull. The waiter acted like he didn't care.I have to agree that once you have gratuity, service is non-existent. For people that never went, the atmosphere is good, but everything else is not quite what it seems. For all the real foodies, you can find somewhere else better at the same price point

Le Select is probably my favourite restaurant in Toronto. The Steak Frites are always perfect and the wine selection is unbelievable.
The Fiks
Great staff, great food. I just find it's always incredibly hot in the restaurant. So, I only go in the summer and only sit on the patio.

WOW. This place is great for a serious dinner or a fun date. They have set it up like it's France. Seriously and the food is a match. We initially went because we read on the Internet how the owner is a progressive soul who cares about the world and the oppressed, not just a business guy in it for $$$ and we can say that the food was a pleasure with setting to match.
Meh
Good food, too bad service is not a priority. We were seated and kinda ignored for a while. Bread never arrived till we finally had to ask for it. Ordered a tea that never arrived and still got billed for it. Ordered another drink but given wrong one. They ran out of croissant! This is a French resto right? No offer to refill coffees till we had to ask and still no cream or sugar when it was refilled. I guess once a gratuity is charged, service takes a back seat.

Shame on Le Select Bistro!. The owner of Le Select Bistro used his restaurant website to voice his political statements against Israel. He also stated that the his clientele should boycott the ROM's Dead Sea Scroll exhibit. He can hold whatever political opinions to himself - he's running a business. It was totally inappropriate and I will take my business elsewhere. It's a shame because I was a regular customer.

Had the weekend brunch menu. The food was okay, nice presentation, fries were good, but there are a lot of better places you can go for a lot less. I gave it a vote of "don't like it" simply because I wouldn't return. But if you haven't been, the atmosphere is nice.

This place has all the attitude of a 5 star restaurant, food wasn't good. All dishes with French fries, that's not realy French, French onion soup sweeter than our creme bruele; moisterless cold green pepper steak as a main, terrible service, not comming back, do your self a favor, don't go.

French Bistro gets it right. I went to Le Select for my birthday and loved every second. The prices are high, but the menu is great, the wine list is nice and the servers are wonderful. Had the Steak Frites with peppercorn sauce (how you do it at a bistro), and the fries were to die for. Loved every second.

The food was good but the best one was the dish we didn't order - a two inch slab of French toast stuffed with apples and cranberries which we saw pass us by after we placed our order. Next time...

First off, I wasn't too happy with the service. Yes, it was 8 pm on a saturday night, and they were pretty packed, but come on, put more servers on!! We thought we were going to be late so I called ahead and told them we migth be 20 minutes or so. The hostess gave me a really hard time since they were apparently jam packed and would not hold our table. So, knowing that we rushed to our reservation and got their on time. We were seated at 735, and no one even came to check on us to take a drink order until 800. You would think if they were so busy, they would want to move tables. Anyways, when our server did come to see if anyone wanted a cocktail, I said "Actually, I think we're ready to order". And she said "Oh! wow, quick! Okay!" with a frazzled rushed attitude. I mean, really? Does it take THAT long to make a decision? Okay to the food.<br/>- See more at: http://www.abbeyskitchen.com/blog/le-select-bistro-toronto-restaurant-review/#sthash.yfqYYrHV.dpuf

My first choice for a main, the bison steak frites, was disappointingly sold out on my visit. In the end, I opted for the 3-course price fixe meal ($35) instead which offers a choice of soup or salad, selection from three mains and two desserts. <br/><br/>Le Seléct’s house salad (salade maison) isn’t just your regular spring mix based salad; theirs packs an assortment of greens, kale and beat slices. The oil vinaigrette coating everything is tart but enjoyable, not sweet at all for being honey mustard as noted on their

we enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, the service and we will definitely be visiting again. <br/>

At the end, I've decided to get the prix-fixe menu. The soup of the day was puree mussels and tomato. They used a lot of mussels and tomato as it was very flavourful. You can definitely taste the two. The bread was nice and hot, fresh from the oven so it was perfect to go with the soup. For the main entree, I got the steak frites - 4oz Alberta fillet with side of fresh frites. The steak was small but it was only 4oz so can't complain (I shouldn't be eating to much meat anyways).

I was pleased to see the traditional French façade and an amazing patio space (and made a note to take friends here in the summer!) The front of the establishment features a classic French Bar (think Manet's Bar at the Folies) that overlooks a warm and cozy café space that offers free WIFI. I made a second note to myself that this was going to be my new favorite spot to work away on my macBook and meet up with friends for a weekly essential espr

Finally, I remember Chef Albert Ponzo of Le Select Bistro and his absolutely delicious "Steelhead Gravlax with Quinoa, Aubergine and Black Olive Mayo"fondly. These were perfect little bites of organic goodness.

So definitely one of the coolest experiences I had while I was in Toronto was when my class and I went to a French restaurant. Not only was it amazing going to a restaurant where the restaurant was owned by French people, the servers spoke French, and we had to order everything in French, but the food was also soooo good. The meal I had at this place was by far the best I'd eaten my entire trip. Here's a small look at the menu. As you can see, the descriptions were all in english (whew!), and there were also lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from. The server brought out small bowls of butter and warm buns. They were great, and one of my classmates even said that she could have eaten just them for her meal. The dish I ordered was the Saumon Roti au Quinoa. I am a salmon girl. Really, I love the stuff! And this was salmon just how I like it. Not smoked (I don't like the texture), not raw (my friends all tease me when we go out for sushi), but cooked all the way through and flakey. Forg

For the price, Le Select Bistro is hard to beat for French cuisine. Possibly more than hard. They have truly produced tantalizing fare, and we are grateful for the recommendation. We look forward to another brunch one of these days.

Seriously yummy! the portions look ridiculously small when you receive your plate, but by the end I could barely finish. Sign of great food? Americanos are also delicious if you like those :)

Located on a quiet street just off Spadina and King, one would not expect to find a Parisian bistro among office buildings on Wellington St. If it wasn’t for the raving reviews and recommendations on Urbanspoon, I probably would not have headed this direction to look for a place to dine. I remember going there for the first time with my friend Becky and feeling I was going the wrong direction, and the sweet relief when I saw the charming little building with a sign that said “ Le Select Bistro .” The interior of the bistro was dimly lit at dinner time to create a relaxing soothing ambiance. The huge open-concept kitchen is located below the main floor of the bistro. You can see chefs busy cooking and pushing out food. Dinner began with some crusty, warm, and fluffy bread with butter. Becky ordered the  Poulet grillé -  grilled skinless organic chicken supreme with roasted zucchini, tomato jam, and an arugula, basil and hazelnut pistou. D
