Best in Toronto

Seated in a banquette for a delicious lobster dinner, the three of us enjoyed a wonderful evening at Scaramouche restaurant. The uncrowded atmosphere, the wonderful service from our two French servers, and the views of the city made for a perfect evening.

Pretty fancy restaurant serving French / European cuisine. The ambience is great and the Toronto skyline as the backdrop is beautiful to watch. I'm no expert in European cuisine but I loved all the dishes and desserts here.

I was surprised with a birthday dinner at Scaramouche by my love, and it was the most unforgettable experience - why hadnt I been here before? It is such a beautiful restaurant, and we got lucky enough to sit by the glass windows where the view was amazing. Out of everything we ordered, the Lobster Salad was the best. Thank you!!

Seafood dish and suckling pig both superb and best we have had. Service impeccable. Chef refuses to return popular Creme Brule to menu and insists on of all things Coconut Cream Pie if you can imagine. Stuck with ice cream as best desert option. Otherwise great!

A great classic restaurant on the uphill segment of Avenue Road at Summerhill with friendly  service, a great view of Toronto CBD, and of course their raison d'être - superb food served either in its  restaurant or Pasta Bar. The menu for both sections is imaginative, and one should definitely go with a group of friends to savour all the offerings over a slow 3-course dinner with all their accompanying wines.

Tip back the shot of chilled celery and parsley soup and it certainly feels like you’re in a restaurant… slightly creamy before ending with a spicy horseradish kick. Equally refreshing are the half a dozen oysters ($30), freshly shucked with a bit of the red wine mignonette.

It’s hard to describe Scaramouche’s menu, possibly Canadian with European influences. These elements came together with the gnocchi ($25), a special for the day, combining in-season white asparagus and wild leeks. It was a fantastic starter! The creamy gnocchi well toasted in a golden crust and huge chunks of duck confit strewn throughout, enough that a larger portion can easily make this a main. Lastly, pieces of spongy morels, adding a different texture and soaking in the delicious duck jus.

Unbeknownst to me, my order of roasted St. Canut suckling pig ($43) was replaced with a

Excellent, in a word. Went there for a birthday dinner and was not disappointed. Signature drink, Snap Dragon is a fun play on a Moscow Mule. The service was amazing, our waitress really knew the menu and had honest opinions. The food was amazing, excellent presentation, the sea urchin was wonderful as an appraiser. This is what I would expect from one of the best restaurants in Toronto. I could go on, but I would say for this place, just go and experience for it yourself!

This restaurant is off Avenue Road - go west on Edmund and first left. The atmosphere was great, fitting for the restaurant of this quality. The location was a bit tricky to find at first, if wasn't for the valet we wouldn't know where to look...

Completely unpretentious, friendly yet professional service. Our wait staff was professional and knowledgeable about the food. He explained in detail every aspects of each course, and gave us a brief history about the restaurant and the Executive Chef.

Food was carefully prepared to the highest degree. Had the seared scallop, was amazed by the texture and rich flavour, the green pea sauce was tasty... it was truly exceptional.

Beautifully plated food that had unique flavours for pairing. Between us we had the pork, the lamb and sea bass. Each was excellent and perfectly cooked. I think the signature dessert is the coconut cream pie. A very generous serving that didn't skimp on flavours or ingredients.

My Wife and I went here for her birthday. Scaramouche was absolutely fabulous. This restaurant's food is scrumptious filled from start to finish. The appetizer, main and dessert were all very flavourful. We had the Ricotta Ravioli and Duck Pastrami for appetizer, both were delightful with sublime sauces. For our mains we had the Lamb and the Veal meals. The meats were exceptional; we could not choose between the two for our favourite because they were both beyond compare. We felt it took a bit long but once we tasted them, we realized that it was certainly worth the wait. Finally, for dessert, we had the ice-cream (house made rum-honeycomb) and the coconut cream pie. The cream pie came highly recommended and we were not disappointed, it lived up to our expectation and was definitely not too sweet. The ice-cream was one of the best I've ever had. The staff we interacted with (from the valet parking to the waiter) were extremely professional, welcoming and kind. The atmosphere (though not as great as some of the fancier downtown restaurants) was really pleasant and everyone seemed whisked away in a world of great flavour, dining and conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this majestic restaurant. Dinner for two was $220 (after taxes and tips, no alcohol).

Took a friend last night to celebrate the upcoming arrival of his 2nd daughter. He had the halibut and foie gras special and I had the quail and foie gras. Phenomenal! And the steak tartare as appetizer... delicious! A French sud-ouest red complemented our food very well. And the legendary coconut cream pie is sooooo dreamy.... a must before you die!

I highly recommend the steak tartare and romaine hearts! These dishes were my favourite! This is a great place to go for a special occasion as it is pricey but well worth it! The cocktails were really nice and strong as well. The service was impeccable and the staff were great! I will definitely be back!

Food Quality, Presentation, and Flavor is Absolutely Master Class!

First-off, having never been to Scaramouche before, as a FYI - there is only valet parking available near the restaurant.  Which actually is a really great bonus.  You simply drive towards the round-a-bout towards the Valet - and that's it - one less thing to worry about.

Second-off, there is a coat-check immediately inside - which I made the mistake of taking my coat to the table (and realizing that everyone uses the coat-check!).

Third-off, the view is absolutely stunning!  Not really realizing the splendor inside - its easy to judge a book by its cover when you first enter since its on the lower-level of an apartment complex.  But inside - you'll have an entire majestic view of the Toronto downtown!  However, be reminded - to DRESS TO IMPRESS!  I think Scaramouche attracts an older clientele (think well dressed older and older-middle-age individuals).  But the ambiance is stunning.

Last but not least - the food, the drinks, the service - all stunning!  Bread with butter is available on demand - and an amouse bouche is presented on-the-house!  Me and my boyfriend enjoyed the Parsnip Ravioli with the Pacific White Sturgeon, BC Chanterelles with the Lamb - and all paired with an amazing full-bodied red wine.  For dessert - a 5-cheese platter!

One point though - Scaramouche is definitely very, very pricey.  Dinner for two for us with tax & tip = $250.

Tried some unique dishes here tonight. Appetizers were tempura squash blossoms stuffed with king crab and foie gras terrine. Tried two mains - Muskovy duck (a first for me) and partridge breast stuffed with chanterelles and wrapped in bacon - both delicious, moist and tender. Raspberry tart was a perfect ending to the meal.

Service was attentive and five star.

The panoramic view of Yonge and Bloor was a spectacular backdrop to the restaurant which was the last thing you expect in the lower of a condo. Free valet parking made this very accessible.

We had dinner in the dining room for our fourth wedding anniversary. We started with the foie gras, seared scallops (special) and parmesan frites and followed those with the partridge and the duck breast (special). Although we were both quite full - the portion of foie gras was surprisingly generous and the complimentary house bread was hard to resist - we finished our dinner with an excellent, not-too-sweet coconut cream pie. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the view of the city created a great atmosphere.

This is a place I haven't been to in ages so I wasn't sure what to expect. For a resto to survive for the past 30 years and remain at the top in this fickle industry says a whole lot.
We started off with the Yellow Fin Tuna Sashimi and Grilled Octopus. Both were presented so beautifully. Almost too nice to eat. But the taste was even more divine. My octopus was grilled to perfection. I loved that there was a bit a crunchy char around the edges. The sashimi was tender and melt in your mouth.
Next, for our mains we ordered the Sea Bass with grilled shrimp and the Scallops with Pea Ravioli. Again, we were both loving our dishes so much there was barely any conversation! The portions were healthy too so I was happy to see that it wasn't all demolished in 2 bites.
Last but not least, we ordered their signature Coconut Cream Pie. I'm not usually into sweets but my date insisted that I try and I'm glad I did. I couldn't stop myself from digging in for more. It's the creamiest and most coconutty pie I've ever had. And extremely fresh and the crusty was light and flakey. I'm salivating again just thinking about it :)
The whole experience felt so refined but subtle. Something very refreshing. It was obvious that all the teams were extremely well trained and were in sync with each other.
I can't wait to be back.

Excellent Dining Experience!. Went to Scaramouche this past weekend with my girlfriend. Initial vibe was somewhat unassuming, but the food and service did not disappoint. I had foie gras terrine and then the veal. She had soup of night (seafood) and the filet. Overall, the food was great to excellent, with the foie gras being near perfect and the filet on point as well. We opted to talk to the sommelier and let him pick pairings for each course. His selections were excellent, especially with the foie gras, and definitely made the meal significantly better. Then the coconut cream pie. Surpassed my high expectations, and simply one of the best dessert I've ever had!! If you go here, you must get it.

Nice. Yes, it's a nice restaurant. The food was pretty good. But it's remote location and fine dining country club atmosphere arent worth the price. Can do much better for less in a happening part of town. I guess i'm just too young for this kind of spot. The food was good. Not knocking the place. I had just hoped for a richer experience at a restaurant i had heard so much about.

Well worth the price!. First off - not a place for everyday dining, but truly, it is very affordable for a special occasion meal.

Complimentary amuse was a great surprise. The tuna tataki was the absolute best thing I ate all night, and everything was spectacular. Filet was almost outshined by the potato side and jus that accompanied it. Partridge main was so flavourful, everything about the dish (the leg and breast meat, mushroom side, fois, and potato pancake) was out of this world. And yes! the coconut pie is everything people say it is! So much so, that I have bought a whole pie to enjoy. Service was unbelievably attentive.

Bravo. While sitting in Scaramouche, I felt like I was dining in an Edwardian era Zeppelin. The space is comfortable, and airy, and offers a panoramic view of downtown Toronto which makes you feel like you are truly hovering in the air. Likewise, the service is breathtaking in its fluidity.

The meal begins with a pleasant surprise of an amuse bouche; a quail's egg with bacon and greens. My triple goat cheese appetizer with lentils and beets is almost dessert like in appearance, and so vivid in your mouth, that I could have eaten four of those plates.

My main dish; a roasted partridge with fois gras and cranberries is a superb marriage of sweet and savoury.

For dessert, the coconut cream pie has the appearance and the flavour of a piece of heavenly cloud. The chocolate mousse with earl grey ice cream was also delicious and rich. My only comment would be that it was perhaps a little bit small, especially in comparison to the cream pie.

Overall, an exceptional dining experience.

One of the City's Best. Hidden in an older apartment building in Forest Hill just off Avenue Road, Scarmouche is a Toronto icon. A neighborhood restaurant where locals come to celebrate special occasions, power business meetings or just a night out for dinner. One of the best views of the City. Pasta bar is slightly more casual. The food, the cocktails, the wine, the service, the view, the atmosphere- PERFECTION. Alas, I cannot deviate, always in the pasta bar, a martini to start. buffalo mozzarella tomatoes when they reappear on the menu or a salad followed by the oh how I dream of you Peppercorn Fettucine when I can't have you and a bottle of red wine. Yes Scaramouche I love you. While I long to be a local and see you everynight and even make the list of locals who order pick up, my nights with you are far more treasured. 5/5.

Last night I went to Scaramouche for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant all I could see was a staircase leading downstairs, a seating area and coat check. The first thing that came to my head was how can this restaurant advertise that it has a great view of the city's skyline when the restaurant is located below ground level. Man was I proved wrong. After heading downstairs I saw this huge window with an incredible view of the city lights. I even clearly saw the purple light emanating from the CN Tower. It was breathtaking. Now onto the food. As someone who travels almost exclusively for food, I have a pretty good idea of what Toronto has or doesn't have in comparison to other big cities. At the current moment, I see Toronto as a city of "middle-range price" restaurants. Places that are offering a casual environment, playful interpretations of classic dishes, interesting cocktails, and full dinners for two in the 120-170 range (depending on how "thirsty" one is). Back when I first started getting into restaurant dining (that is, moving beyond Swiss Chalet), Toronto was a bit more focused on the high-end restaurant experience. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have experienced Susur, you get what I mean. Nowadays, most people don't want to spend over $ 100 per person on dinner, and actually, maybe more accurately, most people just don't want a stuffy BS atmosphere when they go out. Food should be fun, and the restaurant experience should reflect that. And I definitely agree. I don't always want to spend over an hour doing my hair, going through 3 outfit changes before even getting to the difficult decision of shoes, and then spend the night surrounded by men in suits. Having said all that, I sometimes do wish we had a few more "special occasion" options in the city for those times when yes, you really do want to splurge.

Of the few that we do have, Scaramouche is up there as one of the best. Headed by Keith Froggett, Scaramouche has now been around for 30 years! That's a serious anniversary in the restaurant business so I say the place deserves a lot of respect.

I love the room at Scaramouche because its bright (well, it is when the sun is still up because of the huge windows that overlook the city), and the tables are situated far enough away from each other that you get your privacy, but still hear enough noise to feel like you're in a happening place.

Service is also ideal. Our server was friendly, funny and casual, but also very knowledgeable and professional. Water glasses were consistently full, timing was perfect for me, and the sommelier was always close by to answer questions and offer tastes of wines.Speaking of drinks, I started with a really delicious cocktail that had ginger beer, pear nectar, vodka and citrus. Light, fruity and delicious.

Lets go onto food. We both were given a nice amuse complements of the chef:

Gorgonzola Cream Cheese on Walnut Toast with Berry Puree
I can't say I detected much walnut flavour in the toast, but regardless the bite was divine. The cream cheese helped temper some of the strength of the blue cheese and the berry puree added just enough sweetness to balance.

Foie Gras Terrine with Toasted Brioche, Rhubarb riesling jelly, Pickled wild leeks, Rhubarb chutney, Hazelnuts
The first thing I noticed was the massive portion of foie, making the $26 price tag significantly more justifiable. While it was difficult to get all of the components into a single bite, my efforts were rewarded with a gastronomic orgasm. The silky smooth foie was supported perfectly by the brioche toast, which someone managed to be crispy on the outside while retaining a buttery soft interior. The generous dollop of chutney yielded a perfect amount of sweetness that was cut by the savoury acidity of the pickled wild leeks. Perhaps my favourite garnish was all of the tiny beads of jelly that upon reaching my mouth melted into a sweet and acidic juice with a distinctive wine flavour. Offering a nutty aromatic flavour, and contrasting crunchy texture, the scattering of halved hazelnuts was just enough to balance all of those melt in your mouth components. Feed-me-more.

Soup of the Day: Roasted Onion Puree with Toasted Walnuts, Duck Pastrami and Belgium Endive
A really delicious sweet onion flavour, without being offensively sulfurous. The pastrami offered a balancing salty component, and while I don't always love endive, I thought it was an appropriate garnish for cutting some of the sweetness of the onions.

Sustainable Blue European Sea Bass: Grilled Calamari, Sweet Garlic Whipped White Beans, Chorizo, Tomato Confit, Saffron White Wine Herb Nage, Fine Olive Oil
Absolutely gorgeous. The sea bass and calamari were perfectly cooked with a nice smokey flavour from the grill. I loved the bright tomato flavour of the confit, and felt it cut the creaminess of the whipped beans perfectly.

Elk: Bacon wrapped Loin, Mushroom Flan, Wild Leeks, Small Beets, Red Wine Glaze, Triple Crunch Mustard Cream
Absolutely delicious. Three medium-rare, meltingly tender medallions came adorned in crispy salty bacon and drizzled in a full-bodied wine glaze. The sweetness of the glaze in tandem with the roasted baby beets helped to balance out all of those earthy, peppery flavours of the elk beautifully. Further, all of that natural sugar was cut nicely by the slight sharp bite of the leeks and the aromatic mustard cream. Perhaps my favourite part of the meal was the buttery smooth mushroom flan, as its umami flavour, and creamy texture both complemented and contrasted the meat. Throw in a generous scattering of mixed wild mushrooms, and I was in game-meat heaven.

Coconut Cream Pie with White Chocolate Shavings and Dark Chocolate Sauce
I definitely do not usually order pie, as I don't like pie crust very much. I'm also not usually drawn to coconut desserts. But as this is their signature dessert, I knew I wouldn't be let down. And thank G-d I trust my instincts, because this was a like a cloud in my mouth. Unlike so many of those pudding-like, semi-gelatinous coconut pie fillings, this one was airy and pillowy with real coconut shavings in it for texture. The white chocolate added a beautiful element of sweetness on top of the whipped cream, and the bitterness of the dark chocolate helped to balance out all that cream. What about the crust? I actually liked it. It was crispy, flaky and tender, without tasting overly dry, or soggy, as I often find pie crust to be. Delicious.

So, for 2 apps, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 cocktails, 1 glass of wine, sparkling water and 2 cappuccinos (which were delicious), the bill was about $250 with tax and tip. Twice as much as most of our Toronto dinners, yes. But in a totally separate class. It was a near flawless experience, and for that reason, Scaramouche is place I will continue to return to when I'm in the mood for getting dressed up and thoroughly enjoying what I'm eating. All of it. No hits and misses. Every single bite.

Keith Frogett and his team are incredible. Seasonal food elevated to perfection. A must is the Duck Pastrami with Foie Gras. Pure decadence. I love his take on #lobster and most # fish and # seafood. Incredible #wine selection and perfect service. Views can't be beat.

Scaramouche Restaurant is in a class all by itself when it comes to delivering the very best food, atmosphere and service in the city. The 30-year-old Forest Hill landmark restaurant continues to be awarded numerous domestic and international accolades and rightfully so.

LA MOBILETTA
The Italian word for moped, a Mobiletta is a delightfully light, fresh highball cocktail with Campari, lemon and grapefruit juice and topped with soda water, orange garnish

SNAP DRAGON
A very popular cocktail at Scaramouche, the Snapdragon is a delicious blend of pear nectar and vodka swirled gently over ice with a squeeze of fresh lime and topped with ginger beer, then strained into a chilled martini glass. Grown-up and mysterious!

Scaramouche has it all. As I've already mentioned the restaurant has a spectacular view overlooking the city (really romantic especially during sun set). Service was also phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance wasn't pretentious at all...it was actually quite relaxed and very comfortable. Last, but not least, the food was outstanding. All our courses had impeccably composed plates and everything tasted marvelous. Classic flavours alongside modern touches, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly the partridge. The dish was complex yet elegant...just exquisite. Every component on the plate was perfect (and to re-iterate the plate was comprised of roasted partridge breast, crispy confit leg, pan-seared foie gras, honey mushrooms, wilted seasonal greens, hazelnuts, jerusalem artichoke, cherries and foie gras jus...trust me it's heaven on a plate). For dessert, Scaramouche's coconut cream pie is iconic. Light fluffy coconut cream with a rich thick custard, this pie is not to be missed (I didn't order it this time because I've had the pie before). Even if you order the coconut cream pie you must try some of their other desserts too 'cause both the dark Valrhona chocolate delice and the caramelized pineapple tart (love the presentation on this one) were excellent.
