Review Muncho Lake - Sylvan Lake

Gorgeous even in winter. Such a wonderful, beautiful, picture worthy drive.

Our favorite stop along the Alaska Highway. It's dry camping and no cell service so its not everyones cup of tea, but we just love the place. We are even able to catch some TV off of the Dish 119° from some of the spots. We usually stop for a week going north and south and then head over to Liard hot springs once or twice for a dip in the spring. Usually very quiet, but sometimes groups of fisherman can arrive for a party weekend and then it might not be so quiet for a couple of days. Once in a while a turboprop takes off from the Northern Rockies lodge down the lake adding to the excitement. I keep saying that we'll go down to the Lodge for lunch or dinner one day, but we keep falling into Muncho Time and find it hard to leave. I also like to take a dip in the lake. Super cold all season and ice sometimes floating by in the spring, so be prepared for a chill.

It’s a long drive north but a great deep cold lake. The provincial park is not serviced but does have outhouses and a water pump available. The fishing’s pretty good and the campground is regularly checked by staff. When we needed a 2x4, staff were kind enough to pop one over for us. Usually pretty quiet and not overly busy. I believe this campground cannot be booked online-last time I checked anyways.

Absolutely stunning! What a beautiful crystal clear lake. Great fishing and camping available at 2 locations. We stayed at Strawberry Flats and this 25 site campground was full by 3pm mid week. Very popular spot to pull off the hwy and camp for the night. Some people were sharing sites and camping off pitches too. Water and pit toilets available. Some sites could accommodate a larger rig but most are motorhome size only. We took one of the larger sites and it just about fitted us at 56ft. Fire ring and tables in all sites. Take your fishing rod.

Went there twice In the same year! That’s not easy at all, but I managed it and was terrific both times. So beautiful In the Northern Rockies. I will return!!!

Absolute hidden gem of Canada. Leave Banff and Jasper behind for a truly Canadian experience. The untouched landscape will take you breath away. Take some time to disconnect and enjoy pure nature. Your soul will thank you!

A beautiful place. We hiked into the back country. Never went to an official campsite. Saw more game then people. Lots of bear sign. Get in shape and get in the back!

This was so beautiful, and a life saver because driving through the mountains at night is scary and also gas stations are scarce

Just stunning!! We did not have an opportunity to camp here, we did check out the provincial campground, sites right on the lake. We also came across some Mtn Sheep along the road, so be aware.

Awesome park but they need more sites during the summer gets pretty packed with locals and tourists.

The drive through this area is magnificent. There are quite often caribou, sheep, or other animals along the way. The lakes are stunningly blue. In the fall the foliage adds an extra color dimension. The road is twists through the mountains so it takes some time and there are limited services but all the essentials along the way.

Muncho Lake is stunning! The water is a beautiful blue/green colour. We visited in mid-June and the water was still freezing cold— way too cold for swimming, at least for me haha. It’s surrounded by mountains and makes for a nice location to go for a canoe or kayak ride along the lake. We saw lots of boats trolling along with their fishing rods out as this lake is known for having really good fishing. You should definitely stop and enjoy at least a few hours here if you’re driving through. There’s many pull outs to stop along and 2 campgrounds that you can access the lake at as well.
