Can't go wrong with their brisket, sausage and ribs or get the platter that comes with all that and then some. Staff is good. Parking can be tricky on weekends when mall is busy.
The good:
Good portion sizes and the price is okay. The service is friendly. A family restaurant.
The bad:
The dine in location isn’t overly clean, no healthy menu options, the service is a little slow.
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
+4
I first ate at MB when Fairview was the only location and the Memphis Platter was under $40. It was a great deal then and still is at $60 ish. I was a fan at the start and even now that Vancouver has a few true barbecue places around, I still am a fan. You should know that the owners were at some point able to be judges at "Memphis In May", a truly legendary barbecue contest, and I'm sure much of their know how comes from that part of the world (thus the name). It has a casual bluesy atmosphere (great tunes) and big comfortable booths (talking about this location now). I had a smoked brisket sandwich which looked a little small to me when it arrived but the generous portion of tender moist brisket was delightful and filling. The sauce is smoky and slightly sweet with molasses in there somewhere. Sides with the sandwich were baked beans (fries if you prefer) and coleslaw. If you are a vegetarian, don't order the beans. $13.60 is not a cheap sandwich but it is totally worth it. Buy the cookbook too. I got mine years ago and always make their rub.
you must order the cajun shrimp with a side of corn bread. if get nothing else when you're there make sure this is what you get. amazballs.
i like a good brisket sandwich. it's tasty here but there's way more bun than brisket. the platter is a great thing to get for a group.
Their food tastes amazing! I came here with my sister numerous times because we just can't resist their ribs! I would highly recommend this place for their food, it's perfectly seasoned and cooked, the meat tastes tender and juicy and overall it's a wonderful family restaurant. The service here is quite nice, they do their best to cater your needs.
Great Service and Good BBQ!. I have been visiting the Hillcrest location for about 4 years now, every 3 months, since I can't stay away from the Beef Brisket.
I've had their Elvis Platter, Meat Combos, and Memphis Platter and always everything has tasted amazing.
One time in my platter, the Beef Brisket, my favourite item of theirs, was completely missing. I was disappointed but too hungry to drive back for it so I kept what I had.
A few months later when I went back in I ordered another platter and asked if they could make sure the Brisket was there as it was missing last time. The gentleman at the counter apologized and gave me extra Brisket for this platter to make up for the last time. I was amazed and more than happy to accept that. This shows that there is great customer service still out there and fantastic people willing to go the distance for you.
I plan to move at the end of the year and already I'm anticipating the heartbreak I will experience when I can't visit this location anymore.
Hillcrest keep up the great work & I will see you soon!
Great food, amazing atmosphere and a very casual place to drop in and eat at! Just the aroma of the place gets you drooling. I've never been disappointed or unsatisfied with the food or service!
So good great to take a group to as they have platters that will please any taste bud .... If you are down for some serious meat sweats lol was impressed and will be back thanks for the experience
Great Food, Great Service!!!. I took my family to the Fraser Hwy location based on a Friends resent visit, which he claimed was amazing. What a restaurant, we arrived on a Sunday night and was greeted by a wonderful host. We ordered a platter which value wise was fantastic! Where can you take a family out now days and feed all 4 people with loads of fresh meat and salads for under $45.00. They had live music (which apparently takes place every Sunday) my wife, kids and I really enjoyed it. This was a breath of fresh air, very friendly, casual and great food. I will highly recommend Memphis Blues not to mention the Ribs and Pulled Pork are FANTASTIC!
Very Impressed. Ive been to the cloverdale memphis blues location multiple times and i have never been disappointed. Personal favorite is the brisket, one thing i will caution potential visitors is to ask for the fattier end of the brisket i like it a lot more. Staff is always friendly and service is always timely. love the sandwiches, same price as a mcdonalds combo and wayyyyy better and in just about the same amount of time. not a huge fan of how you have to order up at the counter but i do understand that that is the point of the restaurant and it is supposed to be "southern style". reading other reviews im really surprised because ive never had any of these horror stories happen to me. the only thing that i could think of to explain it is that maybe people are under exposed to this style of food/ restaurant/ service. thanks for the read.
Pork Stars. I moved here from Victoria a couple weeks ago, and was on the hunt for a BBQ joint as good as the one back home. I've been to Memphis Blues a few times, and while the quality of the food isn't consistent, the service is awesome, and atmosphere is relaxed.
I go for the Pulled Pork. It's never disappointed. I love the coleslaw and corn bread (I've never had it before, but it never seemed dried out or bland to me). They have a nice soda and refreshment selection, local beer, and huge portions for an affordable price.
The poutine is to die for.
I made the mistake of ordering a chicken sandwich, it was so dried out and stale, it wasn't appetizing at all. But the biggest upset was the caesar salad. The dressing was old and the greens were completely drenched in it.
My partner enjoys the chicken and rib combo, he's always happy with it. Though neither of us are a fan of the beans.
The delivery service is awesome, we ordered during a rush and received our food in less than half the time they said.
If the quality was good in all the dishes, it'd be my ultimate go-to. I have my favorites to order, and unless they change, I'll keep going back.
Love it!. Not the healthiest place in the world (obviously) but I love the food! Great atmosphere and really friendly staff. My husband and I go there about 2-3 times a month I'd say. The shrimp and catfish are my favourites!
LOVED IT!! GREAT FOOD!!. A group of 12 of us went to the cloverdale location and had a ball! What great service, the full bar made it even more enjoyable (the tequilla was flow'in). The platters were amazing, and what value when broken down per person. If you go though a must have is the BBQ shrimp....simply amazing!
We go weekly. We go to this location weekly. Great owners and location is always enjoyable. We always order the same things to share, Catfish meal (my son loves it) and a combo meal of Brisket and sausage. This is our favorite Memphis Blues location.
We have gone to 4 of the Memphis Blues locations.
We went to the Commerical location before the surrey locations opened (cornbread was always dry).
Then the south surrey location opened and we went there(cornbread was a little less dry), but once we tried the Fraser way location we just go here (cornbread is a little better... but I don't go for the cornbread).
The food we order, at this location, is ways good and the owners are always friendly and nice. I have never experienced druken and belligerent customers... We normally go for an early lunch when it is not too busy, but we have also gone when we could only get seating on the overflow patio. Food is always good and service is always excellent.
1st time trying memphis blues bbq. tried the full rib dinner. the best ribs i ever had, never had ribs so juicy and tender. the service was awesome. very helpful for being a 1st time customer
will be going back to visit soon
New favourite place!!!. Love, love, love this location! Been to other locations in Surrey and Vancouver, but the service didn't even compare...the staff at this location are phenomenal!!! Tried the catfish, brisket, and rib ends so far and thought they were great, can't wait for the summer to enjoy their awesome drink specials on the patio...the only complaint I have is their salads, they're really just leaves on a plate!
Bbq poutine, memphis feast, catfish.. I love the feeling of the relaxed feel of the resturant, the bbq shirmp are to die for as well as the bbq poutine. not a fan of the ribs though, every thing else is great. good staff, and lots of drink options. summer time is awesome there to just go chill with friends. wish they had real southern sides though.
Brisket Yummy!. I'm a little fussy with my ribs so it would be unfair for me to comment on their's... However the brisket I will comment on. Plain and simple it's good. I find it's better to order by the pound and then add sides. For my family it works out to A very reasonable meal and I couldn't make this at home. It takes too long to recreate that slow roasting goodness. Although I am not a fan of their bq sauce my wife enjoys it, again bq sauce is way too personal for me ( I think mine is the best therefore i am not impartial).
Comfort Food, Down Home Atmosphere. Coming from the U.S. south, Memphis Blues BBQ House does it right. The sauce is just the right amount of sweet and heat, the meat is very tender, and the portions are huge. For those looking for some good comfort food and who aren't concerned with counting calories, this is a wonderful treat.
Should I go back?. I don't think I had the best first experience here.
I went with three friends and I think it was a weird set up. You order at the counter, and then seat yourself? Mind you the place had just opened and there was only one other couple in the place.
We ordered a combo platter with a variety, the ribs and such. But we didn't take anything to go, and I can't recall if anything was amazing. I may have to give them a second chance - but I'm not super eager.
My first time eating at a BBQ restaurant and I am addicted. Great service and great food. Great selection of drinks too
I've been to Memphis Blues twice in my life. Once for a friends birthday, where we had an epic meat day where we ordered an Elvis Platter, and a Prescilla Platter. That was over $200 of meat and a bit of seafood on our table for about 12 people. Second time, I was just craving a pulled pork sandwich so I visited the Grand View Corners location. I've been wanting to have a meat day for the past few weeks. Was planning to go for my dad's birthday because he's never had it, but he's been sick recently. I finally decided to go with a couple of friends because Beipas made me jealous ! I went in with 2 other friends thinking that one other friend was going to come, so I went straight to the till and ordered an Elvis Platter for about $70. Once I got back to the table, I found out our other friend wasn't coming. So we have 3 people that are about to eat a platter good for 5-6 people. Meat day for sure. The food came to us quick, as I think the food is j
I love this new location, it's bright, spacious and very clean, they even had a nice patio too. The menu and prices really hasn't changed too much since the last time I was there.
One of the best experience in Vancouver…. Everything was delicious and good quality… love the shrimp sandwich and fries… brunch menu was nice but meat portion was less…enjoyed every bit of our dishes… very good customer service and welcoming attitude.. everything tastes as it should be although sausage was abit cold but still taste good… clean and nice ambiance…
Ordered through Uber Eats, we ordered the Nachos full portion (pulled pork) the portion size was massive, I would say it would feed about 4 people. The amount of Sour Cream they gave was equivalent to a small tub. We also ordered the chicken and the corn bread Absolutely Amazing!!! Will definitely order again
Delicious ribs! Must try. The fries are seasoned well. Friendly service! Restaurant can get busy, so give yourself some extra time.
I’ve spent some time in the South. The one thing I absolutely miss is the barbecue. I’ve always told people that the barbecue sucks in Vancouver, which it does. Until now!
I’ve finally found THE BEST BBQ in the entire lower mainland. Memphis Blues BBQ House is simply the best. From the moist brisket to the cornbread, everything was seasoned and flavoured just right. I didn’t even need to smother everything in bbq sauce. It was just perfect the way it is.
The server was great too! He was attentive, and recommended the platter. We had leftovers, which tasted even better the next day.
Another excellent experience, as usual. They have recently been awarded a permit for outdoor dining in the parking lane, its a perfect experience if the weather is amenable. Dawson's hot sauce features here as a standard condiment. Its gets a 'very good' from me.
Don't be fooled, the Memphis feast is a lot of food for two people. On the plus side, you get to try a bit of everything (including sides like potato salad, coleslaw, fries, beans, cornbread).
I think my fav of the various bbq meats were the brisket, ribs, sausage, and burnt ends. The chicken and pulled pork were a bit dry and definitely needed the sauce to accompany it. I actually liked the mustardy sauce the most.
Service was friendly and helpful.
Amazing BBQ restaurant! We got the Memphis Feast Platter which serves 2-4 people! Lots of food for $75! 3 of us finished it and were full afterwards! All the food was delicious! Highly recommend checking it out!
