I had not been to Ken's in a long time and had built it up in my mind as being worthy of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. My actual return was a little less of an event than that but still decent. Ken' Cafe is a small older place in the middle of Cloverdale. There are a few tables and some cool old school counter stools. Nothing is waiting on steam tables so Ken actually prepares your food after you order it. There is emphasis on spicy on the menu but while everything I ordered was labelled spicy, nothing blew my head off. I started with Wonton in Spicy Garlic and Pepper and this was amazing. A good sized bowl of meaty wontons with a very garlicky sauce. This was my favorite dish! I ordered 3 dishes to go; Curried Chicken and Veg Chow Mein, Dry Garlic and Spicy Pork and Spicy Ken's Beef and Tomato and Vegetables. One thing for sure is that all the vegetables were generously and perfectly cooked. These dishes were fine but none were heart stopping. I liked the pork the best (serious garlic), the curry could have been a little more impactful (although I understand it is not Indian curry) while the Ken's Special was a little disappointing. Too much sweet and sour and not enough spicy. Still, I was content. Nice folks that have been running this place for a long time. I think that it is a bit of a Cloverdale institution.
Great, quick take-out. Popped in to order take-out for lunch, love the no-frills diner atmosphere. Food was ready in 15 minutes and still hot when I got it home! Cashew chicken was delicious. Will be back!
First time here. Nice staff. Great food. Not fancy at all. However the service and food was great so I will be back. I had the Chinese food.
