Review Barbara Caffe - Stoney Creek

We had our son's Communion dinner at Barbara's Cafe in the outdoor tent. The atmosphere was great and the food was delicious! Great selection of Italian meals at reasonable prices. We had the chicken with salad and vegetables and our boys had pizza and pasta. It was a filling meal and everything was wonderful for our event. Grazie! 🇮🇹

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night, and we had salads and the prime rib special. Everything was amazing! Delicious food and huge portions. They also have a great variety of daily specials that are not even available on their regular menu. We don’t live locally, but if we are ever back in the area we will definitely be going back. The prices are also very reasonable. Whether you want great Italian food or steak this is the place to go. 😁👍

I want to express our gratitude and thanks for an outstanding experience and job by the Barbara Cafe. Owners and team. We had a celebration of life luncheon Sunday March 2022. This tough time for family with unknown numbers to follow the service. Our service was top drawer best service I have ever recieved at an event. The quality of food was perfect hot and outstanding... I thank everyone for the energy and effort to make my Family's event perfect. This was first class.

Presentation of food was awesome. Good portions at reasonable price. Angus steak was juicy and tender. Meat is halal.

Had an amazing birthday celebration this past Saturday. The service and staff were so attentive and the food was delicious! Having live music was such a nice addition and getting up to dance after over 2 years of restrictions and being able to mix and mingle with family made the evening so special. Special thanks to this family run business for making my family birthday a memory to cherish! Barbara Cafe is definitely the place you should book for your next family gathering!!

We had our daughter's Baptism celebration at Barbara's Cafe, and had wonderful time - the food and service were excellent. Our guests especially loved the lasagna! Giulia was fantastic to work with. Highly recommend!

Was there for a large gathering so not a normal dinner. Food was good, but portion sizes were huge! Really big. Staff was very friendly.

FOOD:
We had come here for a Baby Shower at around 12:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised at how much food we were given, and how delicious everything tasted! We were first given baskets of bread with butter on the side, with the bread coming as small buns; they were absolutely wonderful, very tasty and a good size. Next, we were served Antipasto, which came as a large dish, with a variety of different items such as Eggplants, Red Peppers, Bocconcini & Tomato Sticks, Prosciutto, and other delicacies. All of the items were arranged beautifully on the dish, and tasted fresh, with a lot of flavour added to each item; I thoroughly enjoyed each of them!

Afterwards, we were given two dishes of pasta; Penne With Red Sauce & Farfelle With Alfredo Sauce. I really enjoyed the Farfelle With Alfredo Sauce as I found it to be tasty, yet, not too rich with cream. I also liked how the Parmesan Cheese was in a shaker on the table, which made it easier to put onto the pasta when needed. Next, we were given individual dishes of Veal In A Mushroom Sauce, With Mashed Potatoes & A Medley Of Vegetables. I really loved how the veal tasted; delicious, with just the perfect amount of flavouring, not too overdone, and not too liquidy either. Overall, the food here was very well-done, and I was impressed with how wonderful everything tasted.

ATMOSPHERE:
We were situated in the upstairs dining area of the restaurant, which was at the very back of the restaurant. It was a bit far to get to from the front door, especially when we had gifts and other items in our hands. I also found the restaurant to be very noisy as there was another party on the first level, with no dividers between the two rooms. Since it was a very hot day, the air conditioning was full-blast, making it cold in the area where we were seated. However, I did like how the area we were sitting in was quite big, and the chairs were comfortable, definitely a bonus when we were seated for most of the afternoon.

SERVICE:
We were served by a few servers, that came every so often to bring our items and to take away the dishes that we had used. We were impressed with how quickly they had come, and how polite they were when we had asked them for any additional items that were needed. Also, they came often to fill-up our water jugs and ask if we needed anything else for the table. Overall, the service seemed quite attentive and detail-oriented.

COST:
Unknown As We Provided Gifts As A Form Of Payment

WOULD YOU RETURN?
Most certainly! The food was very good, which made us want more and more of it!

Came to this place for a celebration- and trust me after my encounter
here I was not celebrating anything. Not sure how this establishment is still
running….service sucks the food is even worse. I have had better tasting food
at chain restaurants. If you have food allergies this place is not for
you!!!!!!!!!!!

Cook is NOT ACCOMODATING WHATS SO EVER!!!!!!

My Server with the strawberry blonde
hair was okay.

If you want real Italian food check out express up the
street great service great management – amazing food!

Although food is good, hospitality is lacking. My family and I have been there several times and always felt the service was subpar, however the latest incident was the last straw! My 93 year old grandmother and aunt went for gelato on a 30°C day. After my aunt got my grandmother in (who requires quite a bit of assistace to move and getting her out of the house is a huge task) were told that resturant was "closing early". Based on the posted times, there was over an hour until the resturant closed. My aunt explained they just wanted some gelato, not a full meal. Again the server told them they were "closing early" and refused to serve them. What place turns away patrons, let alone a 93 year old lady!?
I wouldn't waste time trying this place out seeing as they might be"closing early".

Searching for a Good Italiano Restaurant. After reading the comments, my family and I will not go there. They have lost our business!

The review sections are very much appreciated on here. It appears to me the owner of this restaurant is ready to pack it in.

It was pretty good until the end.... We decided to try this restaurant with open minds despite what we had seen from previous reviewers. We had a Wagjag coupon for a five course dinner with wine pairings for $59 and although the coupon stated this was a $120 valve we never actually saw a menu to compare. The meal consisted of two pieces of bruschetta, salad, pasta, veal parmigiana and a desert to share. The wine pairings included 1/2 glass with the bruschetta and 1/2 glass with the pasta. We each ordered an additional glass of the presented red since the 1/2 glass provided was not enough for the two main dishes
The food was good with the portions being a reasonable size. A corked bottle of wine was left on the table for you to review and purchase (for consumption on site w/o corkage fee) if you were interested. The wine was a "special import only available at the restaurant". Although we both drink wines regularly we consider ourselves far from a connoisseurs. We both thought that the wines were nice however nothing that we would rush out to buy and in fact neither of us took the time to note the name and we did not ask about the price.
The good:
-Based on the food portions and quality (good but short of excellent) we informed the waitress when asked that we were very happy and that we would likely return again and perhaps even recommend the restaurant to others.
-Unlike other reviews, we found that the service was good and the waitress was very attentive however it was a very slow night with only one or two other parties in the restaurant.
-Atmosphere of premises was nice as well as the presentation
-Premises was clean
The bad:
-$26 gratuity charge added directly to the bill. I certainly do not begrudge tipping and would have done so on the full price amount however I believe that I should be the one to decide the amount based on the service provided and also that 20% was excessive.
-Ridiculous price for the extra glass of wine. More than double what we anticipated.
-Higher quality Italian food is available in many, many other restaurants in the Niagara Peninsula
-I wold think that restaurants would consider Wagjag deals as "lost leaders to try to build a larger client base. This is the way we treat the service and we return to restaurants which we liked later without the Wagjag coupon. It seems to me that the Barbara cafe has the philosophy of getting you in the door and then trying trying to get the rest of the money out of you. This left a bad taste in my my mouth and this was the deciding factor if I would return or recommend - Not

Not impressed!!!! from Hamilton, Ontario!!!!. My family and myself treated my father in law to a birthday dinner tonight. there was also a 50th birthday party going on...they were catered to the extreme, while we had a 7pm reservation, our wait staff were extremely slow,no appetizer for 25 mins...and then my wife's chicken on her pizza was dry and burnt, the chairs had food on them and on floor,my father in law ordered spaghetti bolognese, they had no meatballs, no sausage to have with it, my son ,myself and my sis in law ordered ravioli, only enough for one of our orders, my mother in law did not receive her caesar salad......worst italian restaurant experience ever...we will never return again....if you want good food...go to Napoli in Niagara Falls, same type atmosphere, but service ,food, everything 100% better!

I will literally never step foot in this restaurant again. Blame it on the rip off prose they charge for the smallest, cheapest amount of food. Blame it on the old pastries that were served to my table, blame it on the rude service or maybe blame it on the fact that every single time I went there I paid a different price for the same thing. The staff is rude, the owner is always yelling and honestly used to be good but lost it all. I will never return

Fantastic food. I've been coming here for years and have to say it never disappoints. It is a family run business and uses local suppliers, good quality ingredients and even organic produce from the owner's garden in the summer months. Soups are all homemade and the pastas are tough to beat. Waitresses have come and gone through the years and some better than others which probably explains a lot about some of the reviews. If you are looking for authentic Italian food at good prices this place really can't be beat...oh and be sure Joe makes you an espresso - the coffee beans here could compete with some of the best coffee bars in Rome.

Fine Italian Food. As a professional I eat out a lot.. I am of Italian heritage so I know great Italian food. We always know my clients and l with have an excellent meal at Barbara Café. The stratchatella soup is my favourite. The veal is always tender. And the sauce is just like my mother made it. This is a family run business and that makes a big difference as well.
Maria

Very unwelcoming. Having purchased a couple of WagJag vouchers for this restaurant, my friends and I went twice and, while the food was OK, we found the service neither friendly nor attentive. Both visits I placed the coupons on the table so that the server could see them, and after the 2nd visit realized that they were begrudgingly serving us. Diners are other tables who obviously were known to the staff were chatted with and dealt with generally in a much more welcoming manner and we felt like intruders. On both occasions, we left a tip that represented the full value of the meal - not the discounted price, so that was
not the problem.

My friends and I will never return to Barbara Cafe and none of us will recommend it to others.

I will never return to this restaurant. 7 Ladies from my office went for lunch to celebrate a colleagues birthday. We arrived at 12:45 and had our orders taken right way. At that time we had asked for separate bills. The table of 2 beside us had their orders taken at the same time. After 45 minutes we noticed that the table of 2 not only had thier appetizers but were almost finished their lunch. We had yet to have anyone return to our table to even so much as fill our water glasses. The most complicated item ordered for our party was a breaded chicken sandwich. Most of the orders were for salads and soup. We finally received our orders at 1:00 and requested our bills right away since we needed to return to work. I had requested a garden salad which came with tomatoes and lettuce and balsalmic vinegar. ( not my idea of a garden salad ). Once we reviewed the bills we were shocked to notice that the gatuity of 20% of the total bill including tax ( rounded up to the next dollar ) was added to the bill. This equated to a $3.00 tip on a $13.00 bill. Since they did not offer debit ( which was not indicated at the time we ordered ) you had no choice but to pay the full amount that was written on the bill. We inquired as to why they added the Gratuity directly to our bill and they indicated that they automatically do this when your request separate bills. After providing them with our feedback they indicated that we were the first ones to complain!! I find this hard to believe. Needless to say we will never go back to a retaurant that demands a 20-25% tip on subpar service!

My party was greatly disappointed with the long wait for their menus, beverage refill and order taking from the waitress. I ordered the mussel appetizer (which was steamed with a chunky tomato sause. The mussels lacked the rich flavor of the white wine which was described in the menu. The portion for this appetizer was enormous and well worth the $9. (very fresh) Another member of my party order (al dente pasta) which was perfect unfortunately the house sauce was bland and lacked proper spices. Finally, the final member of my party order strachetta "soup". I use the word soup loosely as it was flavorless, had no egg, and tasted like dishwater. Overall, I would only return for the musell appetizer.

Our first, and most likely last visit to Barbara Caffe was not a successful one.
