Review Bernard Stanley Gastropub - St. John's

Had a great brunch here! The QV strawberry guava beer was very nice, but the meal took the cake. Poached eggs over fish cakes and the seafood chowder was well worth the upgrade. Best meal I've had here so far. If I had more time, I would come back for dinner. Definitely will be back for my next visit to The Rock.

Quite honestly the best meal I had while I was in Saint Johns. This pork belly dish was the best bang for your buck. It was cooked with such quality. It melted in your mouth and was so tender. I could not believe how affordable this dish was.

Excellent food quality, flavor, and portion sizes! We were so impressed - everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. The service was also excellent from Hailey! We got 2 burgers (and they accommodated my lettuce bun for no charge), the cod bites, and the UNREAL chowder!

Food, beer, and service was excellent. PB&J burger was better than I expected. The sweet jam paired well with the jalapenos

Amazing menu and lots of options to choose from, at affordable prices. The main reason to visit this restaurant is the taste of the food, the location, and the option sizes. You get what you pay for. 10/10 will visit again.

Visited twice. Once for dinner (amazing food & service), and again this week around 3pm, and again...it was such a great experience. Server was phenomenal, recommended a great pint. Stanley burger was amazing! Highly recommend!

This place came recommended by a local friend and did not disappoint! Massive portions for very reasonable prices - I got the breakfast poutine and my partner got the Tex Mex Breakfast Waffle Nachos. Both were excellent. Service was great, our waitress was new but quick. We thought about coming back a few times during our trip but there were so many places to try! Next time.

Decent pub food (ordered the pulled pork tacos) pleasant staff handled our big group and enjoyed partaking in our banter with us.

the server was super nice but we wished the fries were better fried and bigger. we loved the curry sandwich though!

Great food and service... nice to have something a little different. My only criticism would be the $4.50 pop that comes in a jam jar. Fountain pop is cheap, if you're going to charge that much, at least serve it up in a bigger glass and throw a lemon or lime in there. I'll go back, it's a unique menu especially for the bay.

We ate at the CBS location, the service was really good. the food would get a great if not for too much salt on the fries, but not a huge issue. I ordered the Turtle cheesecake to go, it was delicious if I had ordered a plain cheesecake. There was no turtle flavor, no chocolate or caramel, disappointing but again still good cheesecake.

Had an awesome lunch here. Wasn't an upscale atmosphere if that's what you're looking for, but food and service were great. We started by sharing an order of cod tongue. I had a cod burger with kale Caesar salad as a side - both were delicious. Others with me had veggie burger and regular burger both with kettle chips, and also a chowder - all were great. Service was friendly and very accomodating, prices reasonable.

Absolutely great. Entrées we’re delicious, chowder was killer. The dessert was meh, kinda dry. Will be back for sure.

Tonight’s Three Pig Burger is arguably the best hamburger I’ve ever had. We also enjoyed the Coconut cod Tacos, that were equally as yummy. Great foods mixed with great service was a perfect ending to and amazing day. First time and if we’re back in town again it will not be our last time!!!

The atmosphere was great and serving staff super friendly. The food was absolutely amazing. I started with the calamari which was simple and great. Light and crispy coating with the right amount of salt and pepper. I had the fried mozzarella small plate as a main dish and it was perfection. The flavours were well balanced and it was just the right amount of food. I finished the meal with a country peach tea and slice of chocolate espresso pie. Fantastic. I can't wait to come back and try more great things from this restaurant!

The burgers are delicious. Best burgers in town 👌. Our server was Jacob he was very nice and animated he definitely deserves a raise his service was just excellent. The restaurant itself needs a bit of love but other than that is a great place to be with good music.

Went to brunch with my children and grandchildren for my son's birthday and Brandon took excellent care of us all right down to the last details. All hands enjoyed it all from the food to the service. Thanks again.

I've been here on 3 occasions now. Once for brunch, where I had the brie stuffed french toast. Delishious. Another time I tried the duck burger. Juicy and delish, the orange cream cheese accompanied it perfectly. My 3rd time dining there, my friend and I shared a order of maple bacon mussels. And they were amazingly delish!!! We could have drank the mussel broth out of a cup. After the mussels, we each ordered a small plate meal, I had the deep fried mozzarella, and my friend had the surf and turf, we tried each other's and were quite happy. Even with a "small plate" we were both stuffed to the gills. Couldn't stop talking about the food all evening.

Went last night for dinner. The server and service was great. The food was excellent from beginning to end. Loved the option of picking your starch/sauce/side with your steak, and everything was cooked to perfection, probably the best steak I've ever had. I also tried the halibut special my partner chose as their meal and was equally impressed with their selection. Definitely will be returning.

The best burger I've ever had!! The food and cocktails are amazing with an awesome atmosphere and friendly staff who are def on their game! You have to check this place out! Two nights in a row for me and can't wait to return!

Spent a wonderful evening at this jewel of a place. Everything was superb - the food, the wine, the atmosphere, and the service! This place is definitely one that that has been added to my "Places to Go" list. Thanks to the staff at Bernard Stanley Gastropub - I'll be back!

Visited on the 30th of December with my boyfriend and 2 friends and had a great experience! The server was prompt and friendly but most of all the food was delicious! I had the stanley burger and it was one of the best burgers I have ever had. I cannot wait to return!

Went there for supper...food was good, took longer to get the appetizers than I would have thought. Dessert menu was less than desirable, 3 items total. Waitress was friendly but at the end of the meal, a different waitress had the audacity to come to our table and tell us other people had been waiting 20 minutes for our table, so she needed us to leave. Mind you, we had just paid our bill and some people wanted to use the washrooms before leaving. Never in my life have I seen such a thing! It’s not even like we were lingering awhile after eating...is this something this girl just does or is she told to do it?? I guarantee I won’t be back and I’ll be spreading the word as well.

I just came from here for brunch. We were reminded several times throughout our meal that there was a table after us. They mixed up my friends omelette, which we waited on, we waited 10 minutes to have our cheque tended to, and they told us again at the end of the meal that they had another table. Essentially they kicked us out. Will not go back. Rude service. I should not need to be cognizant of the table after me. It is the restaurants fault if they do not a lot enough time for their diners. Oh, and the food was meh.

Great atmosphere and great food. My sister had the fish and it was fresh and one on the best she’s had. Highly recommend.

Hi , we've been to your establishment multiple times and for the most part enjoyed it but this past Friday we were there and had a very unpleasant experience to say the least ! I received my steak and shrimp , took a bite of the shrimp and chewed it a few times only to feel the need to spit it out into a napkin . It was Raw , might have been 10 %cooked ! Disgusting to say the least ! I immediately called over the closest waitress that was there and she was shocked and apologetic and took them back to the chef . She returned with three more large shrimp and I took another bite into one . Guess what , it was Raw !! Spit it out again , might of been 20 %cooked . Doubt it . Slimy jelly stringy textured fish in your mouth is not a very good experience . I felt fooled to have it happen to me the second time but I thought I was in a well established restaurant and the first time was some unusual mistake . Nope ! Anyway , the waitress saw this and was quick to come and inspect the Raw Shrimp and was dumbfounded , apologized and returned the shrimp to the chef again ... THIRD time with a different waitress , my shrimp returns again . I look at the waitress and ask , is it cooked ? She replies yes , with the look of dont be so ridiculous, lol. Then walks away . So i skeptically look at the shrimp and think , you ain't gonna fool me this time ! I cut the shrimp in half and was amazed and shocked for the third time it was Raw !!! Was probably 70% cooked this time . The assistant manager (i think thats what he called himself)sees this and finally comes to our table .He was told of my problem precisely because I saw the other waitress tell him . He looks and sees the raw uncooked part of the shrimp and said he was sorry and will take the shrimp off the bill , lol. Duh ! He goes away and doesnt come back with any shrimp or an explanation . Unreal ! A good established restaurant would have dealt with this in a much more professional manner ! The only feeling your restuarant left was that you only care about the bottom dollar and dont give two sh*ts about your customers !! I on the other hand understood the waiter and waitress had no control of the situation and we left them an 18% tip . I first decided not to post my experience but to have my wife send you a private message of our experience . You say , "we are sorry that your experience was not suitable , we are wondering how the rest of your meal was " are you serious ? An experience like that takes away any enjoyable part of our meal ! After that experience I really think you and the kitchen staff are in need of a Gordon Ramsay intervention !Also who responds to any issues posted on this site?Do the owners hear about any of this?If not could I have the contact info for them.Have a nice day .

Awesome food and beer! We sat at the bar and enjoyed interactive conversation with the bartender whowas also very helpful and knowledgeable about he menu!

We went for brunch. We really enjoyed it, loved the coffee! ... But the toutons were awful. Hard, dense and raw. Service was great. We will try lunch next time

You must try the pork belly burger, to die for!

Myself and my partner stopped in for lunch! Both had burgers (Pork Belly & Southern Fried Chicken) on the AMAZING Pretzel � Bun! Both were DELICIOUS. We had the kettle cooked chips to start with 3 dips (Maple Aioli, Curry and Spicy Ketchup) could not get enough of the dips held them on for my hash browns they were so good! Only negative I’d give them is the temperature inside was pretty cold had to keep my jacket on! Besides that 5 stars and the service was top of the line good job girls! ���

What an amazing brunch we had this morning. Brie stuffed French Toast and Breakfast Poutine were to die for and the service was great! �Can't wait to go back for more.
