We selected Dickens Public house based on Reviews (thanks google community) nice relaxing atmosphere and friendly service. We opted for for the Dickens Burger with Cheese. I had mine with the soup of the day which was Beef Barley and excellent. My wife had hers with Salad and the lovely house balsamic dressing. This was an excellent burger and the servers suggestion to add bacon just topped it off right. Was very tempted for the special lamb gyro but had a burger craving to resolve. If you are coming off the ferry and need a bite doesn’t hesitate to choose Dickens public house. Children are welcome.
Wing night every Tuesday since we moved here last year. Angie and the amazing staff always welcome us and know our order by now. The wings are so good. The beer is cold and the laughter is free! Just for posting and tagging them weekly we were treated with a free drink this week. So nice of them! We usually dine in but on occasion we have also had take out and there is no difference to the quality of the food.
This place is great for what it is - a very casual pub. We arrived after 1030pm with a group of around 20 (wedding afterparty). It was a busy night as they had other events going on, but they made the effort to get us space.
I cannot say enough nice things about our server - she was the only one taking care of our large group, and she was super quick, accurate, and completely friendly. People kept moving around, ordering drinks for others, getting rounds of shots etc, and this woman had it NAILED. If I'd had been in her position, I would have lost it - we were kind and not belligerent (I think), but the whole situation must have been aggravating trying to keep track of people.
Drinks were decent, and damn, so cheap. I got a round of shots for the table and was fully expecting my bar bill to be over $250, but it ended up around $100.
Can't speak to the food, but damn, please give the blonde server with glasses a raise.
Burger was awesome but....too darn big had to save for the ferry trip but would go back for sure
We stayed at the days in for a night. We had no idea where to eat so decided to check out this pub. It was so perfect. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was very casual and fun. What made this visit above expectations was the server. We forgot to get his name. He worked behind the bar and served tables as well. Oct. 4th. around 7:00p.m. It was so nice to have someone who is friendly. Most servers act like you are an inconvenience he was so nice. Would go back for sure.
I was visiting my neice in Sidney and we came here for dinner. We ordered beef dips and they were so good! Ceasars to drink they were very good too. Our server was very good too. I like this place a will go back next time on island!!
We have been here twice for dinner recently, the service was great and the food was awesome, huge portions they give. Menu had a lots of things to choose from. I would recommend Dickens Pub to anyone looking for a good meal. We drive from Langford and will return. It is worth the drive.
We were hungry and tired when we stopped walking, and found ourselves in the parking lot next to Dickens Public House. A quick look at the menu (posted by the door), and a sign that said that kids were allowed when accompanied by a parent/guardian, and we decided to check it out.
The interior is a traditional pub, with dartboards (kids are not allowed to play, which is understandable), a bar, and a pool table (not sure if kids are allowed to play, we didnt ask, but I suspect not).
The menu was varied and interesting, and two of us had the daily specials (Thursday, so Jamaican Jerk Chicken Bao, and a Lamb Gyro), and the other two ordered off the regular menu (Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding, and Fish Tacos).
I wish I had taken photos, because the food was great! Portions were plenty big, service was great, and the food was delicious. We all ended up trading some things around to each other so everyone could try everything.
The fries were amazing.. light and crispy, but not so small that they were dried out shoe-strings. We were shocked at how much roast beef was in the stuffed Yorkshire pudding. The fish tacos were amazingly tasty with big chunks of fish in them and just the right amount of spice, and the fluffy bao buns took the Jamaican Jerked Chicken sandwich to a whole new level.
We were too stuffed to try any desserts, but they did look great also.
Highly recommend, we hit this place up for a later lunch, and it was not very busy, so we didnt have to wait for a table or the food. Service was great and food was hot and fast.
Highly recommend you to check this place out, as it seemed kind of "under the radar" in the area.
Accommodating a party of 7 last minute with 2 kids included by putting together some high tables was really good, the wings and dips were very yummy!
I left a review two years ago. I had a great meal and the service was impeccable.
I have to stay at the hotel again because my kitchen got flooded. My friend drove me to hotel and then we headed to the pub.
It was my birthday and they gave me an alcohol free mojito. It was a lovely treat. I had the shepherds pie and it was amazing as usual.
My friend had the two piece halibut dinner and raved about it. His hobby is fishing and he went on about fresh the fish was. They were huge pieces. I had a bit and it was delicious.
We also had the prawns special. They were lovely and we both appreciated them being steamed rather than deep fried.
We topped it off with Boston Cream Pie which I realized later I had not in 40 years. It was so good.
Our server was amazing, very friendly, and made some good suggestions and was flexible with a substitution with my friend.
What I like is the way , I am treated as a much older, arthritic woman. In my last review I discussed how nice I was treated being older and eating alone. Well tonight I am looking for another delectable dinner by myself.
Excellent food, good prices and kid friendly. Will definitely go back, hopefully get to the pool table next time. 😎
Food is always great. Love wing nights, with friends or coworkers, it's a great place to be!
Had dinner here with friends. Was excellent. I even told the chef it was excellent. I'm coming back next time I'm in Sidney.
nice joint, great beers, but service is mediocre, probably due to pandemic shortage of staff......liked this place for sure.
Excellent beef dip and great fries in a lively atmosphere. Like everywhere these days, a bit slow service due to understaffing, but the staff were friendly, even though working too hard!
Delicious pub-style food with very tasty cocktail drinks - great service as well!
A great neighbourhood pub with excellent food and service. Perfect when coming to and from the ferry.
Shrimp night. .70 each, minimum 10.
Everyone was happy with the food and drink.
Excellent onion rings and fries.
