Review Chuck's Burger Bar - Sidney

Cat Woloshyn
So far my vacation on Vancouver Island has been highlighted by Chuck's. The burgers were delicious, especially since you can customize it to make sure it's exactly what you want. The staff were very friendly but not fake, just genuinely down to earth people. Everything on the menu is so creative and different and most of the prices are affordable. The environment was welcoming and friendly. I especially loved the wood bar and tables. The only issue I have was the area it was in but everything else really made it amazing.

Delicious and massive burger, awesome onion rings with chipotle sauce. My son had a burger with blue cheese and that was a little much for him - but he just scraped it off. Kitchen is a little slow - but worth the wait. Can't wait to go back and try some of their other burgers!

Second time here, the first time burger was undercooked, The next time the burger was perfect. Will definitely try again. Don't expect a budget minded meal at Chuck's. Had another burger, very good. After ordering expect at least 30 minutes before it is served. Tried the homemade onion rings this time, they are worth eating, similar style to A&W but better.

Wowww! We discovered this place during the Sidney Night Market on Thursdays and the burgers were so tasty we decided to make a trip to the restaurant from Victoria! And it’s totally worth it! So many delicious options to choose from: lamb, venison, bison, beef, chicken, etc. for the burger meat, and you choose your own toppings from lettuce, mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumber, hot peppers, beets, and different flavored mayos and BBQ sauces! You can also easily order your burger double meat as it is on the menu! We tried the chicken strips chips as an appetizer and it was very tasty and original. We are definitely going back!

My wife ordered the blue cheese burger with poutine and I ordered the Cuban burger with fries. As always the portions are massive so you will likely be full. The service was great, the food came quickly (also due to the fact we were one of the last customers). The staff is really friendly and nice. One of the top burger places in the Victoria area.

I had lunch here with a few friends and we really enjoyed it. The large pulled pork poutine was more then enough and very tasty. The chicken and Turkey burgers were both good as well. We choose to customize our burgers, so were able to pick all of the toppings we wanted. They have a chucks lager and a variety of other beers on tap. It wasn't to loud either, so we were able to hear each other talk. Would recommend.

Amazing burgers, made fresh to order with a great price, one of my favourite places. Now that they are opening a new location in downtown Victoria ill be there every week. Great big turkey wings are yummy.

Me and one of my best friends are on the search for the best burger in the CRD... Probably on our 10th place and without a doubt, Chuck's has (so far) earned the top spot on the list.

This place is awesome! With so many gourmet and boutique burger places in town it’s nice to go to a place that does things in such a unique and over-the-top way. Guaranteed you will not leave hungry! Oh and their poutines are killer too! My go-to is the Chop House Steak poutine. So good!

Chose this place wanting to try some poutine and this place was incredible. A quaint little place in a busy industrial/airport area. We also had the Mama Chuck Chili, Cheese, and Bacon burger which was very good. The food was great but the time to get the food was a little slow. One table at a time is what it seemed like. Without having been here before it is hard to say what the lunchtime rush is like having to get back to work and wait for a meal? I would not let the slow service I had for this particular Monday lunch service stop anyone from coming to try this. Again...food was excellent. Try it for yourself!! We shared both and should have got something else besides fries with the burger, if possible, as that made for a ton of fries.

Went there with the lower island motorcycle group. You guys were amazing. All the starters were super delicious. Portions are to die for. Food was amazing. But most importantly , you guys rocked! Amazing service. I will be Back!

Awesome experience here. Burgers are fantastic and the turkey wings are out of this world. Well worth the drive from Victoria. So many options for burger toppings.

Great burgers and a good beer selection. Definitely a first stop getting off the ferry in Schwartz Bay

I had a fantastic burger here, the burger choices and options are overwhelming! And the fries are just the way I like them, thin and tasty. Not cheap but it is good!

Seriously the BEST burger I've ever had. If you like burgers and poutine done right, juicy medium rare with top grade house ground beef - don't miss it!

Known for their burgers and poutine. We ordered custom veg and Angus beef burger. Both are made very well and the pattie was fresh. We added custom chucks sauce in our burger that was very strong and didn't go well for our taste palette. It's very pricy but overall we had a good experience.

Great burger options and dang good food. Wait staff is great too. I had bison with salad and really enjoyed it!

I have been to Chuck's burger bar a few times before and have always had great service and great food. This past Friday, I brought a friend from out of town and we were both unimpressed with the food and service. Our burgers and fries were luke warm when they got to us even though they had just come from the kitchen. The server did not come to see us at any point throughout our meal to see how our food was and if we were enjoying ourselves. I was disappointed in the service and food this past visit to Chuck's.

I had a Spanish Gouda burger with fries, coleslaw & beer Friend also had a burger with onion rings & beer Both burgers were delicious and a generous size. Portion of fries was huge, barely finished my meal. Onion rings and the dip was delicious great batter. If your gonna come here come hungry! Great small environment (we sat at the bar which was fine). I wouldn't take any more then 3 people at once since it's a fairly small place.

Can never go wrong. All the food is amazing. The place is as small as people say. Expect a wait if u want to sit down. It is the best little hole in the wall and the burgers are amazing. I recommend the bison burger.

Had high hopes for this place, but boy was I let down. Ordered a double burger w brie and fries and gravy. My friend had a double burger w cheddar and a salad. He asked for medium rare and I asked for medium. The burgers came back way over cooked and were hard as a rock. I would've sent it back but was starving and had no time. As for the fries they were so over cooked that they were saturated in oil. I mentioned it to the waitress and she gave me 15% off (nice of her to do that but for the price we paid, way overpriced and not worth it). To be honest probably the worst burger I had in a long time. Lastly it took forever to get our food....

Alright.. So I used to be a huge advocate for Chucks. Used to talk so incredibly highly of Chucks. Oh how you have truly, epically, fallen from grace. Tonight my girlfriend and I were deciding on where to order for dinner. We decided upon Chucks as neither had been there in quite some time. We decided we would call ahead to place an order for pickup. As soon as she called I began to make my way in that direction- coming from the East Mountain area. We were already more than half way there and she was still 'on hold'. I use ' ' because the phone was simply place down and seemingly forgotten about. Finally after waiting on the line for over 7 minutes she gets a very monotone and mundane answer. We place our order- Guilty pleasure and poutine for me, custom build for her (chicken patty, onions, asperagus, and garlic sauce). We were told it would be 20+ minutes. At this point we both assumed (due to the overly long wait to simply place the order and now 20+ minutes for food time) that they were very busy- possibly due to the football games today. We ran a quick errand on the way, picked up some snacks for movie watching, and made or way to Chucks. When I got in there the place had maybe 6-8 guests- all fairly well into their meals, mostly almost done. All in all the restaurant was very quiet and rather empty- thus going against our assumptions. I was greeted with a fairly half hearted gesture of welcome and told my food would be some more time yet. It was at this moment I noticed a total lack of moral or general happiness amongst the crew. And now to the food. So we get home. Hungry. Awaiting our dinner. I open my poutine and it looks ok at best. My burger looked as any takeout burger looks which was acceptable but when I took a bite it dramatically lacked any flavour or juiciness that once made chucks so amazing. My girlfriends self made burger was a terrible mess. The asparagus was shrivelled and small, the bun was burnt, and worst of all- her chicken was beef. It even said on the wrapper: chicken. This was so incredibly disappointing. What once was such an incredible restaurant is now nothing more than a place black listed by once truly passionate fans. You have lost your way, Chucks. You truly have.

I would like to be able to say I had a good meal at this establishment. I truly would. I'd like to be able to tell everyone how the burger was mouth-watering, the fries done to perfection, the waitstaff friendly and courteous. I'd like to say all of that... but I can't. Because when myself and a friend were there, they had managed to run out of burger buns.

Best place for a burger in Hamilton. Worth the trip up the QEW. Burger was fresh and delicious, as were the sweet potato fries, and the available choices to "build your own burger" will satisfy even then most finicky diner.

Pretty much the best burger I have ever eaten!! Also, I loved the 1L of Steam Whistle in a jug for $14.95

If you have a gluten allergy, DO NOT GO TO CHUCK's. Even though they advertise GF options all over their menu. I have been glutened 3 of the 4 times I have been there. First time I ordered and paid for a gluten free bun and they gave me a regular one, even after they highlighted celiac on my bill. When I asked if this was GF becasue it didnt seem like it they assured me it was okay. Today i went and they gave me fully glutened beef gravy and assured me it was the gf chicken gravy. Its just not worth the risk. The staff is not knowledgeable and they are making allergy sensitivity promises they cant keep. Id rather not pay$25 and wait an hour for a burger and fries just to be sick for 2 weeks. So long CHuck.

Has really gone down hill. Went out of my way to visit last time and the burger was flavourless.

Came to Hamilton for a ball tournament and ate at Chucks Saturday. Absolutely loved the environment, service and the FOOD! After our games Sunday.. We ate at Chucks again! Burgers are INSANE! Poutine is unreal! Onion rings are to die for. Can't wait to come back!

Absolutely loved my burger and have been thinking about going back for almost 6 months... Its time.

Please sort out your waiting staff. One of the worst experiences I have ever had and I love this place. If it continues you will lose out on loyal customers like myself.

Have been there many times before and been good but tonight was just so wrong. Nice to see that take out takes priority over dine in. 80 minutes from sit down to pay for a couple of burgers??? Missing food had ordered fries with the burger AND onion rings, no fries, When placing the order I had repeated it twice. when the food came I questioned the missing fries and was told that there is only one side. Pretty sure either the egg on my burger was missing or hard fried.

Really good burgers. Place was packed when we arrived but got a seat quite quickly. Was bummed that the bison burger was unavailable but the venison was a very good alternative. My daughter had the angus burger and it was quite tasty. The panko crusted onion rings were very good as were the fries. Service was very good. Fast and courteous despite being very busy. We will be back next time we are looking for a bite in Hamilton.

Where do I start, best poutines around! So tasty, restaurant does get busy but I’ve always found a spot. Only had the poutines so far but they are always so good with varied toppings.

***This review is for the Yates St downtown location.***

I heard about all the hype and couldnt wait to go try their burgers! Before I got to the Sidney one they opened one in town - perfect! I customized an Angus beef burger with sweet fries on the side. The orders all come with coleslaw too. Beef and lamb patties were juicy and delicious. Sweet fries and onion rings lived up to expectations.

What didnt pass was the coleslaw. It was clearly not fresh and the taste was off. After one bite i stopped as I didnt want to risk getting sick. My friend said the veggie patty was a bit on the disappointing side. She's had almost every veggie patty in town and Chuck's didnt stand out. Her potato fries were all grease and tasteless. The colour was too dark - oil needed changing. Overall, I would go back for the beef burger but not in a rush to.

Great Decor, the server was nice, good selection of beer, and pretty awful burgers. The bun was cold and uncooked as though they took it right from the fridge. The patty was somehow cooked medium with grease spilling out of it and still dry. There was also no flavour at all, even the coleslaw had nothing to it. These are Instagram burgers. Visually tantalizing but no substance at all.

Always delicious weekly special concoctions, huge portions, and reasonable prices (especially for the amount of food that you get). I have never had anything that hasn't made me happy!

If it weren't for the quality of food, I'd have rated this restaurant lower due to service. When we arrived, the front door was opened and the music BLARING. We sat down in the tiny space, and were ignored by the server (whose first words to us when she finally came over about 5 min later were "we weren't actually opened yet"). All through the meal the service was just plain uncomfortable. It was as though we were annoying to the server, for even being there. No smile, nothing, ever.

I was annoyed they were out of lobster, but it wasn't that so much as how we were told... While ordering, being cut off abruptly with "we don't have lobster right now". No apology, nothing.

We were also not told about the feature burger (although I know there always is one).

With that said, the food product was superb, so I'd likely give them another shot.

Ok now, this place rules! I had their basic Angus burger for $9 and added about 7 or 8 free toppings. Cooked perfectly pink in the middle and juicy, flavourful, good bun, great rings. My wife and kid each ordered one of their monstrous Chuck specialty burgers and while that is too much crazy burger mess for me they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.. my wife had to take most of hers home. My kids burger was stacked so high all he could do was stare at it for a while as he dug into his insanely cheesey and delicious poutine (yes I sampled) -- my one 'beef' is that they are way out in Sidney. Seriously need to open shop downtown. One word for you... GO!!!

Went in with family to try the place out. Started off with being told I couldnt have hot water with lemon because they have no way to make hot water other than using ths tap. We ordered 2 burgers, fries and a salad. It took over 30 minutes for 1 burger to come out with fries that were cold and the burger that did come had the wrong sauces. The 2nd burger was never made and we were told the burger ticket never got printed. Didn't help much that the 2 chefs in the kitchen were just standing around for the most part and seemed like chatting was more important than working and filling orders. If the restaurant was busy I could understand but there were less thank 10 people at the time. Very disappointed as I was told by several people how great these burgers were.

I've been there 3 times and had 3 different burgers, and they're mostly alright, some much better than others. The place has a nice atmosphere, but it's really expensive for what you really get.

Owner (Chuck!) recently moved from Ontario bringing his very successful business with him. His Burger Bar was a huge deal over there, even featured on Food Network's "You Gotta Eat Here".
The menu has a humongous selection of burgers. If you don't see what you want, customize your own creation with a plethora of toppings. The burgers are huge. The veggie patty is crispy on outside, soft and flavourful on inside. Ingredients are quality and sourced locally.
A friend of ours exclaimed "easily top five best burger of my life." It's got the wow factor for sure and is our new favourite place to visit in Sidney. It's a smallish joint located in the industrial area of Malaview close to airport but note it gets busy at lunch rush and in the evening with surrounding businesses and locals. Hang around for a table or grab for takeout. Food sometimes take awhile but worth the wait.
Tip: grab a burger to go for the ferries - beats that awful assembly line White Spot! We called ahead to pick up food for the last departing Friday ferry and server explained it was a 30 minute wait but she expedited our order knowing we were cutting it close to 9pm! That was above and beyond customer service. We picked up our takeout, just made the ferry, and blissfully enjoyed our delicious burgers with the envy of everyone on board! Thank you Chuck's!

Holy Moly. This place was awesome - from the amazing food and huge portions ( and I mean huge) to the awesome spitfire server that we loved so much.

I highly recommend this place - you won't be disappointed!
