We decided to throw a McDonald's themed wine tasting party (yes, you read that right! Lol) inspired by one of the iconic scenes from the movie Kingsman: The Secret Service. The manager was very helpful in making sure we got everything we needed for takeaway to feed our large group, making sure it was all fresh.
We started with the chicken McNuggets; they were an excellent paired appetizer with our New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from Villa Maria, the light and crisp wine contrasting nicely to the crunchy batter.
Then we served a fish course: The Fillet-O- Fish was enjoyed with a deliciously fresh tasting Pinot Grigo from Alpha Zeta. The aromatic wine was a nice compliment to the tartar sauce and goes well with fish in general.
Then the main course: Big Macs (but of course!). We have to say this wine pairing took us by surprise. We had a 2012 Beaujolais-Villages by Louis Jadot - it was like the two were made for each other. Specifically, the flavour balance between the Special Sauce and the hefty and aromatic nature of this fine red wine were amazing. It's really worth trying it for yourself - really, we're not making this up!
We finished off the meal the best of the McDs desserts: Warm Apple Pie. Our favourite Italian dessert wine was the match: 2009 Vinsanto Del Chianti Classico from Rocca Di Castagnoli.
So, if you're looking for some fun, consider calling ahead and letting the manager know that you're enjoying her meal with some fine wine, and she'll likely make the same effort for you as she did for us. Don't take yourself too seriously and let your imagination and sense of play find the joy that McDonald's once brought to you as a kid.
Well, it's McDonalds. You probably should already know what to expect from McDonalds. Service is reasonable. There's occasionally moments where the service is inexplicably slow, but it's usually pretty fast. There's nothing special about McDonald's food, but it's cheap, simple, and tasty.
