Simply the Best. As Tina Turner so kindly put it, this place is "simply the best." To experience the true core of Saskatoon come meet all the locals at this fine establishment and get terrible service from the waitress, average wings (the best in the city for the price), warm draught, and if you're lucky you will get to see some sort of public disturbance. You can't find a cheaper dinner and a show (9 cent wings and fairly cheap beer) than Manchesters!! Come one, come all!
A hidden treasure. 75% of the reviews of Manchester's have been hating on the place. Manchester's isn't a bar where the second coming of Christ is going to take place, but it's definitely not a hell-hole either.
First and foremost, let's state the obvious: Manchester's is not the kind of place that you would go on a wedding anniversary, a formal outing, a post-funeral function, a wedding reception, or a Valentine's Day date. It's not a classy bar.
That fact alone is what most Urbanspoon reviews of Manny's don't seem to understand. June Buggs suggested a change in decor and lighting. Sure, they could do that, but then they wouldn't be Manchester's. Want a fancy bar full of $9 drinks and strobe lights, with tanned douchbags popping their collars and pumping their fists in the air? Tequila's is right down the street! Want a place with nice music playing where you can woo your sweetheart? Chianti's is a short jaunt down Idylwyld.
I attend Kelsey SIAST (right across the street), so I frequent Manchester's on my lunch breaks and after classes sometimes. Every Wednesday is their pizza deal at lunch: a medium, *delicious* pizza for $6. Pizza isn't your thing? Every weekday they also have a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and pint of beer for $6 as well. Six dollars! It's not a Fuddrucker's burger, obviously, but for $6 it's quite excellent. Also, Wed/Thurs they have $0.09 wings, which are *super* delicious. A pint of beer and 20 wings comes to just over $5.
There also seems to be a lot of malice toward the servers/waitresses at this fine establishment, which I think is very undeserving. To be fair, everyone has bad days; I've gone there a few times where the service was a bit sub-par, but that's life. The majority of the time, though, the servers are excellent. One lady who works on Wednesdays always takes my friends' and my pizza orders, and she's awesome! She almost has all of our orders memorized, so it takes about 30 seconds to order our food, and she's great at keeping drinks topped up and empty dishes cleared away.
In conclusion, I would like to commend Manchester's on their fine establishment. It's not the perfect bar, but it's pretty damn close. It reminds me very much of a small-town bar: It's frequented by some odd characters, and there are a lot of quirks, but for the most part, it's a great place to eat, drink, and socialize.
