Review Seoul Korean Restaurant - Saskatoon

Jessica DeWitt
Their menu is so fun, and I love that it’s digital (on individual IPads) and provides photos of each dish. Service is great. Water is filled frequently. During our most recent visit I had a spicy seafood soup, and we shared the green onion and seafood pancake. All of it was AMAZE.

I'm a bit disappointed by the experience. The whole point of korean bbq experience is you get to cook it in front of you. cooking it in the back and bringing it dosen't have the same experience. The blaring Michael buble Christmas song was annoying. It's nice to go to a Korean restaurant and hear Korean music. Also it was too loud. The food was good , it came out really fast. The portion was good Our server was really friendly and attentive.

Great amount of food, exquisite flavor and appropriate atmosphere. We had the Kampong( spicy seafood noodles), Kanpoongi ( spicy deep fried chicken) and Jeyuk Bokkeum (spicy stir fried pork).

Seoul Restaurant is unmatched in the quality of service and authenticity of the finest Korean cuisine. If you want to experience the best of what Saskatoon has to offer, definitely check out this little gem. I always come back 120% satisfied!

Great restaurant with a big selection of Korean foods. The bibimbap was a generous portion, with fresh and well seasoned ingredients. The kanpoonggi fried chicken bites were also delicious and fresh. The staff are very good about maintaining hygiene in the restaurant. I hope to try more of their foods and even their BBQ in the future!

Wonderful foods, not very good service. My friends and I came at black Friday spent around 30 mins waiting for them cleaning the table. In fact that table empty even before we came in. Then wait for ordering, wait for cold water balabala. Seems always waiting. However, the food is great enough to erase the mood. Maybe they should hire more staff in holiday.

The service could always have some improvement, especially in quieter hours. The food is decent tho! Probably one of the best Korean restaurant in the city. Location is great too.

Really solid food for a decent price. My favourite dishes here would have to be the bulgogi or the seafood stew. Service is relatively quick, and one of the only places I know of off the top of my head that offers korean bbq.

Wow top quality food!! So happy with this place I can’t believe this hidden gem has been open for 8 years and I have only just discovered it. Incredible flavors and wonderful presentation. Thank you!!

Glad to have finally made it here. Firstly, the restaurant is very clean and the decor is simple, but nice. I had the Dolsot bibimbop. The dish was very hot (temperature-wise), but quite tasty, particularly the sauce that went with it. Many of our companions found the dishes too spicy, my partner and I did not, but if you are spice-sensitive this might not be the spot for you.

The food was great the first time I went to Seoul. I had the Jeyuk bokkeum (stir fried pork). It tasted great. Full flavour. A little too spicy for my liking but not a big deal. Huge plate filled with meat and a small serving of rice. I'm not a huge fan of the side dishes but each to their own.
I went there tonight, looking forward to trying their dolsot bibimbap dish, but I was quite disappointed. The purpose of the rice being in the stone bowl is to form a crispy layer of rice on the bottom. That was the only reason I ordered the dish. When I got my food, the stone bowl wasn't that hot (neither was the food) and the dish never formed the crispy bottom. Kinda defeats the purpose of the bowl. The bibimbap was pretty bland so I took some of the sauce from the boneless wings and added it to my rice (which improved the dish).
The boneless wings were really good though.
I would probably try Seoul again but I wouldn't recommend bibimbap. For the price you pay, you get nice large servings of food.

This is a real deal Korean restaurant run by Koreans making authentic Korean dishes & great kimichi. They should also start selling their kimchi separate from meals. 😀

We were planning on going to another restaurant down the block but they were full so we came here and we're pleasantly surprised! Everything was so flavorful and balanced. The waitress was very helpful with explaining the menu and what we can expect with the different dishes. We had our toddler with us and he enjoyed every bite. Great atmosphere to top it off. Great experience and will be back again!

Great place for Korean food! Yes it is a little expensive, but food is great so that is okay. Besides, this place is one of very few Korean restaurants in Saskatoon. The place is very clean as well. Try here if you love Korean food.

This is pricey so I suggest taking a friend because then you can sample lots and the big portions will be good for sharing. Service is outstanding. Really recommend the BBQ. Jeon was well done and not rubbery as is so often the case.

If you like spicy and saucy you will like Seoul. The kimchi is flavourful and not over spicy. The kimchi pancake is great especially with all the sides you get. If you want a safe simple dish the bibimbap is what you should order. The pork backbone stew was great and fun to eat. All the dishes were large and filling so the price seemed appropriate

I have been to this restaurant 5 -6 times.
Every time i get good service and consistently good food.

I hope they increase the number of options they have on their menu.
I have stayed in Korea for 3 years and i can say with confidence that their food is very similar to what you get in Korea.

I have tried their bibimpap, samgyopsal, dak kalbi, kimchi soup.
It is all good. I wish they serve their fried pork chops..... its my favorite.

I always recommend this place to my friends and i will their again in the near future.

Went here with my mom and grandpa the evening before Mother's Day, because there wasn't any room left in the odd couple. We were surprised by the promptness of the service and enjoyed our food. The japchae was nice, and I liked the kimchi pancake. Hot stone bowl Bibimbap was pretty good as well, and the spicy tofu stew was alright. I liked the concept of having iPad menus and the idea of being able to have your meat cook right in front of you! However we didn't get meat, so next time I go I would definitely get some meat. Wish there were more options on the menu personally! Seemed quite limited for an Asian restaurant. Overall, pretty enjoyable experience although nothing extraordinary.

Beef Ribs and Japchae Alright, let me be honest first... back in the day I was never a big fan or Korean Cuisine. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Korean BBQ - who doesn't?! But I could not like Kimchi or spice ... and I was also ignorant back then as well. I traveled to Korea a year ago and along with discovering how much they loved spice, I got to experience alot of interesting dishes. The spice made sense considering it was so cold outside when I went, there was no snow like Canada but that wind just bites! Now, I'm a changed woman. I enjoy kimchi and love a kick in my food. I've been to this Seoul Korean Restaurant twice since I've moved here. Each time, I have walked out more then satisfied. Having experienced these dishes first in Korea, Seoul Korean Restaurant is authentic and delicious. No offense to Saskatoon, but I'm surprised this Seoul Korean Restaurant has survived since 2011 (earliest evidence I can find about it). Usually smaller cities don't appreciate authentic cuisine and crave more of a fusion... so when I thought about the size and the demographics I was... happy(? not sure if that's the right word) that Seoul Korean Restaurant looked like it was being recognized for it's authentic dishes. I've had a couple of dishes here: Bulgogi Jeongol - It had lots of veg but still a good amount of beef included. Good flavor. It's a great comfort food to warm up with in the winter! Pork& Beef Ribs - Please show me a korean restaurant that does not serve good Korean BBQ? They also offer to cook it for you in the kitchen if it suits your needs. Delicious! Japchae Japchae - One of my all time favorite dishes in life. And they do a pretty good job here, can't go wrong with sesame oil. They actually give you a fairly large portion as well. Bulgogi Jeongol Patbingsu - The dessert. Honestly, I'd pass. Nothing special - just ice cream and shaved ice with fruit + fruit loops. I think they did add sort of a red bean paste with it but it didn't really add any flavor, hence

Kimchi Jjigae. I liked this dish, but be warned it's very spicy. I like spicy so it was okay with me, and would like to have it again.

Very good.. Seoul Korean Restaurant or "that Korean place by the Roxy" as I used to refer to it, is definitely a must-go.
Myself and a friend entered Seoul unsure of what to expect, or what to order for that matter. Thankfully, the waiter was extremely helpful guiding us through the Ipad menus (very cool) giving us suggestions and sharing his personal preferences. We ended up ordering a spicy pork dish along side some rice and a soy bean paste stew to start off.
Although we had ordered it "mild" the pork was extremely spicy but it was so unbelievably flavourful that even though my lips were on fire I couldn't stop eating it. The stew reminded me of a miso soup with a little bit more substance and it was great as well.
Great food, friendly service, definitely going back for some Korean barbecue in the near future.

Very good korean food. I ate Korean food in Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, Seoul (Korea). The food os this place is just as good. Im so happy to find a little place to give me something interesting on my food. They have exotic drinks too. Love it.

Sarang hae. First time trying this place, I love the bibimbap.

SO GOOD!!. Fantastic food, fantastic service. It's a little expensive (especially the alcohol), but for a once in a while treat with family and friends, totally worth it. The iPad menus are super cool. I actually enjoy the fact that they often have K-pop playing. It adds that little extra bit of authenticity. The food is always piping hot and delicious, and the service was very friendly and very responsive. They have these buttons that you can press when you actually WANT service, opposed to having servers randomly asking you how things are mid-mouthful or mid-conversation.

I would LOVE for a place like this to see more business. They deserve it! So, check it out and tell your friends!

Amazing food as well as service. The waiter was so helpful, definitely going back. (Ipad menus were super cool)

First time and last time!!!!
Ive been to many other Korean places across Canada and this one definitely is the one that charges the most and serves worst food ever....
They call it seafood and there is hardly no seafood in it. And the soup tasted like a huge amount of msg.

Something Different. Nice shabu-shabu experience... If you haven't tried korean food this is the place to try it.. Clean & very friendly staff... Very tasty food as well! We would go back in a heartbeat

Our first visit and first time for Korean Food. Had a thoroughly tasty meal, good service, interesting Saki wine; we will be back.

Delicious!. This was my first time here and it certainly won't be my last. I have never tried traditional Korean food before so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am impressed! The bibimbap was fresh and flavorful and the staff was really nice. Thank you for a really good dining experience. :)

Worth a second look. First off, we really respect iChang's reviews. That said, we just visited Seoul Korean for the first time. While we've only had one lunch, consisting of two items on the menu, we have to say that things must have improved since iChang's last review a year ago.

Back in Toronto, we have a place just on the edge of Korea Town, so we're quite experienced with the cuisine. While the food we had today at Seoul Korean was not the *best* Korean food, it was quite good and makes for a really comfortable meal if you're craving Korean food in Saskatoon.

We had the Dolsot Bibimbap and the Yukagaejang (spicy beef soup). The rice was well executed, with a nice crispy bottom layer of rice (the point of serving it in a stone bowl). When mixed with the chili paste hot sauce, this was as a delightful lunch.

The Spicy Beef Soup seemed not to have much beef in it at first. However, as we kept eating our way through the bowl, we realized there was a good serving after all. The beef was very tender and broke apart in the stew, mixing quite nicely with the vegetables. The soup also included bean sprouts, scallion, bracken, mushrooms another other veggies. There were glass noodles, but not too big a serving, which is nice from our perspective.

Unlike many Korean restaurants you might find in other cities, this one did not serve up a big variety of little side dishes. However, the kimchi was as good as I've had in any Korean family's home, and they served this lovely cold mashed potato - we found ourselves quite addicted to it.

We think perhaps that things have improved over the past year and plan to return to try more of their menu in the future. We also want to note that we did see a young Korean couple who spoke fluently enjoying their meal, so it would seem that Seoul does the cuisine justice.

Pretty standard.. I came here in August with some family members; I currently live in Seoul, but my family had never had Korean food before, so I wanted to show them what it was like. Since there aren't many Korean restaurants in Saskatoon, we decided to come here.

For starters, there aren't a lot of options with respect to what you can barbecue (or at least that night there wasn't). We wanted to order either samgyeopsal (pork belly) or the so galbi gui (beef), but they didn't have either one of them, so we ended up ordering the pork ribs, with a few other dishes. It was good, but not exactly what we had wanted. I can't attest to how authentically spicy any of the dishes are, since the people I went with didn't want too much spice.

Everything was pretty standard, but I guess my two main gripes are as follows: (a) they need to make sure that they actually have the dishes that are on the menu; and (b) they should really have soju.

Also, it was pricy, but standard for Saskatoon (the same dishes would obviously have cost about a quarter of the price, if not less, in Korea).

Excellent food and service! Very quick as well. Not as spicy as traditional Korean fare but excellent none the less :)

Great Experience and a great addition to Riversdale. The atmosphere is inviting, and the food delicious. If you order the right items - ask your server for advice - they will even cook them before you at your table.

Having the menu on Ipads and free wireless internet are nice added touches.

Painfully bland, boring, bleh. Ordered three dishes-- spicy tofu soup, kimchi pancake, and stir fry pork-- all three dishes lacked flavour. I've had Korean food at ~4 different places and this was by far the worst of all! I do not recommend this restaurant, to anyone, unless you want the tastiest thing on (your relatively pricey) plate to be bean sprouts that taste like sesame oil.

Great Food. Went for supper yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I shared a mushroom soup with beef with a friend. The service was quick and the food was very fresh and tasty. The accompanying side dishes were also quite good. I especially enjoyed the fish cakes and house made kimchi. The meal was under $20 for supper and I would defiantly return as there are many other items on the menu that look great.

Disappointed. I've been to other Korean Restaurants in different cities. I don't think this restaurant is up to par with the ones I've been to.
Upon seated, yes we were impressed with the iPad menu. But it stopped there.
I felt they're skimping on the ingredients and try to charge too much.
For example, we ordered the spicy seafood soup (jigae). The seafood inside consist of a few (3 or 4) super tiny baby shrimp. Not impressed.
A friend from Korea was also with us at the time. He ordered seafood korean pancake. And he complained the same thing. There was too little seafood for that price ($14? $17)

Food is great and authentic. However their choices for the bbqs are pretty limited. Kimbap is also not available. Otherwise great experience, yummy food and welcoming ambience

Yum!. We went for a Saturday night dinner with my husband's parents and my baby. I assume the food is pretty authentic, as we were the only white folks in the place (I generally feel this is a good sign in ethnic cuisine). We had the potato pancake, mushroom stew, stir fry pork, and bbq pork rib. The mushroom stew was great for my 10 month old - it had lots of veggies and noodles and well cooked meat for him. My favorite was the stir fry pork - spicy, flavourful, delicious. All 5 of us ate all we could for about $85.

Enjoyed lunch at Seoul. Excellent Korean food. We had spicey beef soup and bipimbop. The kimchi was very tasty. Can't wait to go back and try other menu items. The menu is presented on an iPad which shows pictures and ingredients. Very helpful.

Wasn't open. Tried to go there last night, but it was closed. The sign on the door stated they were closed for renovations and holidays until the end of January, which was two weeks ago. Perhaps an updated sign or a notice on the website would be helpful. Not sure if I'll bother trying again.

Tasty. I like kimchi so I ordered the kimchi jeon which was tasty, the kimchi jjigae which was very good, and it came with a side of rice - good, and a side of kimchi which was good. I also had a desert broth with cinnamon and ginger (both of which I like) and it was very good. I will go back and get the kimchi jjigae, a side of kimchi, the desert, and try other menu items. I want to try the kimchi bokkeumbap as well. If you have a sense of humour, take a look at the men's and women's washroom signs.

Authentic Korean food-not the best Korean food but its pretty decent considering the limited Korean food we have in Toon-town
