Review Oriental Dumpling King - Richmond

Everything was good. Would come again. Beef noodles were my favorite with the onion pancake. Not a fancy place. Dumplings were good. They brought them all out and couldn’t tell us which was which. We had to try it to figure it out because we have someone with a shrimp allergy.

Great food, friendly staff.. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to eat chinese authentic foods. Price is fine for this type of dine in.

I found this place to have delicious food. Dumplings are great, the stir fry dishes delicious and fish dish slightly disappointing (because it’s my favourite dish) but not bad. It’s a place for the returning locals but if you can bear with the service, you will love it.

Taste very bad. We ordered two types of dumplings. One of the dumplings is tasteless as if they forgot to put salt. The garlic stir fry spinach is super salty. The meat dish also super salty and didn’t taste good at all. There was a dead fly on one of our plates when we sit down. The place was poorly maintained that I could see piles of dust on the light fixtures. Very uncomfortable to eat it. The guy did not check our vaccination card and was not wearing a mask. Menus are oily and definitely not sanitized. Will not go back ever again and hope they close down soon.

When ever I eat here I feel like I am back in Beijing, China eating there. The food is soooo good. 6 stars.

Tasty and reasonably priced. My friend got kung pao chicken which was on the sweeter side and not that spicy. The sour and spicy potato stir-fry came out blazing fast and was good. I had the spicy beef noodles and the beef was fall apart tasty, the noodles chewy, and the broth rich. I would have loved more beef but for 8.5 the portions were appropriate. My only gripe was when I asked to split the potato dish, they said we could only do so if we paid with cash. I offered to pay for the whole thing with Visa and they said no, to which I responded by pointing out the credit card logo stickers on their door. They said it was only for purchases over $50... I wouldn't be so annoyed by all this if this was written somewhere visible.

Reasonable prices, good portions, service was decent (spoke English and Mandarin) and dumplings were delicious

The service was a little hectic here but was acceptable considering how packed the place was. The dumplings are really good here. I make dumplings myself occasionally and I also eat a lot of store-bought frozen ones.  Freshly made dumplings are always miles better. The dumpling filling here has a nice balance of meat and vegetable and tastes fresh and well seasoned.  As for their Dongbei dishes, they really nailed those old-school comforts such as the Beef and Potatoes, once a heavenly dish during the difficult time, the nostalgia for many millennials from the Manchurian provinces.

April 21, 2016<br/><br/>Heard this place was famous for their dumplings. Coworker brought me here since she LOVES dumplings and I mean like 20+ dumplings in one sitting kind of non stop eating love. Anyways, came here around 730pm the restaurant was packed busy. We waited probably about 15 minutes before we got seated. FYI, this place is super honger.<br/><br/>Three steamed dumplings (abalone, sea cucumber, shrimp, & meat) - Set of 12 dumplings in an order. They are quite small like 1 inch by 0.5 inch. Pretty tasty. Soft. Juicy. $18.95, not worth for what it is.<br/><br/>String beans with mince - What's mince? Well basically is XO sauce. Beans very super tasty and actually quite spicy. Best szechuan beans I've ever had. $12.95, almost same as other Chinese restaurants.<br/><br/>Garlic flavoured pork ribs - It's literally the 3inch ribs that is battered and fried then tossed with garlic in a wok. This dish was alright. Hard to eat, must use hands to cold and tear with your teeth. $14.95, kind of pricey. It had 7 ribs.<br/><br/>Service - Poor. Our tea took forever to come even when we asked for it like 3x. They never checked up on us during our feast. Servers spoke Mandarin and poor English. While paying, he asked to put in the tip amount for me which was rude. I guess they were expecting at least 10% since according to reviewer Dafang Li said the server threatened them to pay 10% or they'll get people to force them to pay.

One waitress threatened us that if we do not pay 10% tips, she will ask her people to force us to pay. It is so horrible. The dishes are so small, but the prices are very expensive. You have to pay more than 40 CAD for each person. Otherwise, you need to buy a burger after you leave. Woo...

This is the worst restaurant I have ever tried. The waitress asked for 10% tip directly without providing us with professional service and gave me attitude! What the heck?! The food is far from tasty. The washroom is messy and dirty. <br/>If you are looking for a good Chinese restaurant, it should not be on your list.

Stood at the reception for literally 10 mins and the waitresses just kept passing by. Tried to ask for seating but none of them cared (first time going to a restaurant, not food court, and need to ask for being seated) but gave me a weird glance. I and the other customer came in the same time stood there helplessly while the other seated customers were looking at us like clowns. We ended up leaving the place in embarrassment. I guess it was my fault to bother these waitresses when they were busy at walking around? if that's the case then Im so sorry for coming to this stupid place.<br/><br/>Don't understand why people still come here for diner.

I know this looks disgusting LOL...but trust me, it's awesome!! :D Northern style pork bones is one of my favourite interpretations of pork bone!! It's different from other chinese versions, it's more smokey in flavour, and full of spices!! This version was really good, although the meat could've been more tender, it was full of flavour with lots of meat on the bones!!

Very bad service!! Not as taste as before, and portion is smaller than b4.. Very bad experience when they made a mistake and we have to pay for it

Very rude so we left. We ordered a few dishes and asked for recommendations for another dish or two and the waitress said we didn't order any main dishes, grabbed both menus and walked away. We cancelled out order and left before things got worse.

It is most bad restaurant i have exprienced. Their waitress and manager are very very rude . food is not good and dirty enviroment as well. , i have never met such bad restaurant.

Much to my amaze, the colorful picture guided menu didn't end up with a meal as thought will be all distorted by MSG, and welcome by more pleasent surprise, the dishes resembles the mug shot found in the dictionary-thick menu. It is quite accustomed to diners that chinese restaurateurs tends to give diners everything under the sun, like a chinese grocery store is also a marriage match maker to a family vet and dentist. All under one roof. the menu has more than you could choose from, so we picked four dishes: standard dumpling, fried rice, mutton broth,and an appy. Hung over, dying over the table, dish was served, and I was all fixed and happy. Reccomended to everyone. Keep up that smile and keep up the yummy traditional dishes.

Authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. Very delicious and comforting food! Not sure about the low rating. Might be service related. Great for casual meal with family or a nice meal out with friends. Dumplings are a must have here. Hand made wrappers and a variety of delicious fillings. Even though it says $$$, it's not too expensive depending on what you order. The price point is quite similar to most of the mid range chinese restaurants. The food though is very good. Only downside I found was haphazard service. The waitresses are all quite friendly but not super attentive. Food is slow and service can be slow as well. It's honestly the only dumpling place that serves authentic chinese dumplings, almost as good as my mom's homemade ones.

There seems to be a lot of discrepancies between the menu and the actual dish (there are a lot more, not just the ones we ordered!). The menu is not western friendly or even suitable for someone who does not eat chinese food much since what you order may be something totally different than what you get.

I didn't see it on the menu, but they made it for me anyways, this was the Stir Fried Egg Whites with Seafood ($12.80). I understand why it's not on the menu-- it was the worst I've had in my life. The egg whites were overcooked, rubbery, and oily. Not even the egg yolk helped. My disappointment was indescribable.
