Today I was hosting a Dumpling Trail tour on behalf of Tourism Richmond. I enjoy talking about food, getting to showcase my learned knowledge on it. And enjoy it even more when it is in the company of non-adventurous eaters, (as was the case today), where I get to help them eat outside of their comfort zone.

The first Xinjiang Dapanji experience exceeded my expectations,  and I was digging the other Uyghur dishes such as the Lamb on Wood Skewers and Lamb with Steamed Buns as well. Some impressive craft of noodle and pastry making can be also found here. The food here stands out among hundreds of Chinese restaurants with both of their traditional Uyghur cooking and reinventing the classics.

Alexandra Road, also known as “Food Street,” in Richmond seems to have an endless number of choices for Asian cuisine.  One longstanding restaurant in the area, Beijiang Restaurant, has been open since 2009 and specializes in Halal Xinjiang Ugyhur-style dishes.  Beijiang was formerly located at Venezia Place on Alexandra Road but moved to neighboring block Leslie Road about 6 months ago.  I was invited to a media tasting at Beijiang restaurant last week by way of Foodology.ca.  Here’s a look at what the restaurant has to offer.

Chicken is valuable with their sizes, noodles inside chicken bowl have good mouthtaste. Small size is enough for two girls. Didn't try the lamb rice, but heard that is special and delicious, too.

After eating all day on Eat Street we were looking for kind of a light dinner, so we ventured into Beijiang and managed to snag the last table on a busy Saturday night. We ordered two lamb skewers, the spicy cucumber appetizer, the sesame roll with cumin lamb, and handmade noodles with lamb. It was just right for two and we devoured all of it. The serving of cucumbers was ample and they were particularly delicious. The sesame roll was superb, as were the skewers. The noodles were fine but a little short on lamb. Our beers were overpriced, but the food was so good we didn't mind too much. Our tab was just over $40, so we got our money's worth. You can spend more money here if you want, but we got a great meal at a good price.

I have found mutton heaven and it's name is Bei Jiang Restaurant. Drove up from Seattle and this was one of the stops we made, after running around Stanley Park. Mutton over sterno hot pot, mutton kabobs, hand made noodles with mutton with an amazing vinegar, and a cool eggplant appi were outstanding. Heat level no. 3 was embarrassing to request but it still burned our faces off Next trip were bringing more people so we can try more dishes. Big bags of charcoal were stacked high in the storage room across from the kitchen. Very good sign, indicating a commitment to properly roasted meat. Big portions and lots of leftovers was only $42. Great deal.

We went on a Sunday after shopping around 3pm. The food and service was amazing. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. They made the dishes extra spicy just like we wanted. My favourite was the ginger beef and the handmade noodles was very tasty. 100% halal. Highly recommend!

Best home made noodles ever have enjoyed. You should try their hone made noodles, especially with beef. There are two choices Lamb and beef I enjoyed more the beef. Trust me when I say the best noodles ever. The Resturant itself is so clean and the owner who serving us is really friendly and too nice. The washroom is clean and looks beautiful traditional design.

In my opinion, the price is set a little too high for the portions of each dish I had ordered. Taste is decent.

Best authentic Uighur Chinese HALAL restaurant. It’s expensive but worth the price. Ambiance and service both are good. The owner takes special interest and explain the dishes. They show you live lobster before cooking. We had there popular lamb kababs and lobster dish. The best I ever had. I cannot forget the taste. The rice was so yummy and every single piece was properly cooked and filled with delicious taste. More than enough for two good food buffs like us. They have unique taste because they are authentic. I will definitely go back since it’s rare to find Halal authentic Chinese cuisine. Not to forget extremely well maintained washroom area.

I came in a group of 8 and was surprised at how amazing the food was! Make sure to get the lamb hot pot (with homemade noodle) as well as the lamb skewers on the wooden stick (not metal). The lamb puff pastry was so super delicious and incredibly buttery. Obviously the food here isn't super healthy and there's a bit of oil but the flavours are on point!!

Nice atmosphere, plenty of parking. The staff makes great recommendations. We had Uyghur style fried rice and Da pan hi (big plate chicken). The chicken is soo flavorful and tender. They used chicken thigh so it's not too dry, just the right amount of fat and skin. The serving size is generous, we ordered medium, and there's at least three large thighs in there. The potato was fried before cooking, so the outside holds together while the inside soaks in the flavor. Fried rice has a lot of lamb in it. Slightly sweet b/c if the raisins in it, but it's well balanced with the savoriness.

Authentic and rich flavours that are truly representative of the regional cuisine. Try the cumin lamb and the dumplings as I think they are some of the best dishes you’ll find in Richmond. The owner and staff are great and happy to help you select dishes if you’re not familiar with the cuisine (I don’t always know or understand Chinese dishes and they take the time to talk to you about the food which is awesome as it makes the restaurant very welcoming to anyone new to authentic Chinese cuisine).
