Review Nan Chuu Izakaya Restaurant - Richmond

食極唔肥 Angela Lammy
I never post reviews, but when I had the saltiest ramen on earth I had to log in and post. The other comments about how salty the ramen is aren’t kidding or not know how salty ramen as a dish is. IT IS A BOWL OF SALT. I didn’t believe them and I was wrong. After my first sip of the soup I wanted to ask the waiter if this is normal, I dont know why I didnt but I really should have. I added half a cup of water into the tonkostu shio for it to be edible, otherwise even as a tsukemen and not drinking the soup, it was STILL TOO SALTY. After adding the water it tasted a lot more like normal ramen but still just a regular ok ramen. Nothing special. Will not recommend and will not come back. I saw some articles about how good this place is and had high hopes for it. Never again. Oh by the way the chicken meatballs were also so salty that I could not physically make my body eat it even I usually never waste food. The picture shows how much chicken meatball and ramen was left. Now I see why this is a prepaid restaurant. One star is for the karage and gyoza. Both were pleasant to eat. Zero star for the ramen and chicken meatballs. Just go somewhere else.

Gmen Ramen is a masterclass on how good ramen is done. The broth is a perfectly balance and carefully walked path of rich and savory no matter the base you go with, carefully paired with the right ingredients. I went with their peanut and spicy base and it was perfectly balanced with its fatty flavours and hest, the savory balance of the pork and base brought out its intense flavours. Their noodles are made onsite with expert detail. These noodles are bustin with flavour and capture your broth in every bite. Their menu is also easy to follow for first timers as they have recommendations on where to start. The atmosphere and vibes here are also incredible, with Manga on the first shelf you see, multiple anime posters everywhere and mood setting music. We absolutely loved our experience and recommend you come check it out too!

Cute, intimate ramen spot in Richmond. We arrived here around 12:30pm and there was no line up and the food arrived quickly. We ordered the Ebi Mayo, Porker Gyoza, RCMP & Tonkotsu Miso. All around the food was great. The pork gyoza had a nice light and fresh taste, the tonkotsu miso had a beautiful and rich broth and the RCMP had the perfect level of spiciness. The only thing we would probably change is the dollop of mayo on the ebi mayo dish. I think if it was spread evenly on the top with a little more flavoring, it would have been perfect - aside from that, the shrimp also tasted light and fresh! We have been here twice and both times the customer service was on point - we'll definitely be back again. This place does get busy, as there were people waiting by the time we left around 1:30pm on a Sunday, so plan accordingly!

The positives here are that the broth is very rich, thick, and flavorful. The presentation is decent. Mildly overpriced for the products you get. The restaurant was not well stocked and they appeared to be out of a lot of things including drinks and food options. The food is all good but not great. Standard takoyaki, standard chicken karaage, and the ramen is above average but not excellent. The service was average and it's a pay first and tip first before entering and getting served your food type establishment.

They have this weird policy where you have to order in advance and pay in advance before seating. I wasn’t sure if I was suppose to tip them or not in this case but I still gave them 15%. The food was ok. Tonkatsu shio ramen was salty and the miso was worse. Just overall really salty. I ended up putting 3 spoons of ice water into the soup to dilute it. They used to have more izakya eats but now the menu has dwindled down too. 3 items 45 bucks. Not cheap

This G-Ramen shop is the best tasting in Richmond, they have similar taste and menu like Gojiro Ramen and Butcher Ramen. Their tonkotsu is my most recommended ramen! Only thing can make it far better is to add ajitama on it. Also please allow credit card payment, cash and debit payment only is not convenient in this modern world.
Dan
Very flavorful broth, pork is tender, great bowl of ramen. the only complain I have is: there’s no bean sprouts/egg with the ramen. You have to add them separately (extra charge).
Kristy Ng
Presentation is good, taste is average. A bit overpriced. Feel weird that we have to pay and tip first prior getting seats and service. Need to pay extra for egg. Both of us have washroom problem afterwards. Need lots of water due to the thick soup broth. Tried once, won't be back.

G men is a ramen restaurant located in a strip mall in Richmond.

I visited during lunch time, on week days, it was pretty busy. They had regular menu and lunch special combos which are mostly rice bowl set.

I tried their regular chicken soy sauce ramen. Broth was so flavorful, it had good amount of oil, I believe it’s chicken skin oil, chi-Yu? And that made this broth taste so much authentic. A lot of ramen places in Canada, do not have enough fat in the broth so it tastes kind of weak and it does not stay hot till the end. G men was like the ones in Japan.

Noodle was thin yellow wave noodle. It went so good with the soup.

Topping was pretty normal for this time of ramen. Cha Shu was really good.

My favorite ramen in general would be tonkotsu and seafood double soup with thick chewy noodle. but with this ramen I was quite impressed.

I’d love to go back to this place.

Solid MEH from Meg for Gmen on the ramen front as it’s the only thing I ordered, and maybe therein lies the problem. I should have ordered it all. A ramen restaurant located in the idyllic village of Steveston in Richmond – we were there to celebrate a family birthday and you can paint me surprised when I sat down to see a menu chalk full of options.

Excellent dining experience! The noodles and other dishes were just yummy! Good service, good food, but very limited seating. If you want to avoid the waiting time, I would highly recommend going there.
Suzie Keyong
Great but too salty. I know ramen is supposed to be salty, but they confuse salty for taste. Quality ingreadient and service is always good. Price reasonable. Try the chicken is great.

Came here as a party of 2 after receiving strong recommendations by a coworker. Since we arrived during their busy dinner hours, we ended up waiting closer to 2 hours. We ordered a tonkotsu miso ramen and a tonkotsu shio ramen.
Tonkotsu miso ramen (2/5): broth tasted a bit off, most likely due to requesting miso instead of other alternatives.
Tonkotsu shio ramen (3/5): compared to the miso ramen, overall tasted more refreshing and appetizing.
Overall: Noodle and egg were nothing special and I didn't find the pork appealing or tasty. Price is still reasonable.
If you predict you'll end up waiting as long as I did, I would recommend considering other alternatives to stave off your hunger. I will try to revisit this location when they're not busy and try out their other items as well!

One of the busiest ramen places in Richmond. Apart from challenges to find parking, this place is worth visiting.

Their soup less noodle is by far our favourite! It’s flavourful and has a decent portion.

The ambience is quite nice though it can get crowded during lunch and dinner times.

Garrett
Went there with my friend. All I can tell is Ramen (Japanese Noodle) is too salty. The price is ok. One noodle soup costs about $10.

But if you want to get tasty Ramen, you should go to downtown Vancouver. There are many Ramen places in Robson street. Those are tasty and same price.

I think my favorite ramen shop in all of Richmond. Very authentic and I love the Izakaya style atmosphere. If you come after 6PM, expect some decent wait times. Everyone wants to come here...

• located along Alexandra road; free parking at the back (but gets really busy), to save your time just park along th street for $1.25/hour or carpool
• small place, limited seating; write your name & # of people in your party in theit clipboard
• I came during late lunch: simple menu, simple meals
• Shoyu is soy sauce based, Shiro is salt based choices for your ramen or the rich pork soup based
• Noodles are ok, half a piece of egg, 5-6 thinly sliced pork, green onions & lemon rind
• serving size is enough for 2 people to share
• Takoyaki: 3/5 the usual, the “tako” is a bit chewy I find...
• Gyoza: 5/5 nice crust on the pasty, sauce balances out the meat
• Service 10:10, one of the best I ever had. Servers are very polite, fast, efficient & respectful which I really appreciate. Thank you! Because of this, I had a wonderful meal experience.

September 14, 2017

I was planning to go for sushi, but cannot find any parking space on oak street and 49th,
its end up went to try their:
juicy and crispy deep fried chicken, takoyaki, ebi chives gyoza, Sapporo beer, unagi on rice and 2 bowls of ramen with 2 thin slices of melt in your mouth pork meat on tons of noodles with way too salty soup base. We almost tried the whole menu.. they got $9 minimum charge per person rule there.

Nice and fast services. It's pack after 2pm.

Big portion of ramen, but their soup base was too salty for me, cannot tell which favourite they belong to?! All taste salty to us, but in different color... lol
They don't have much selections.

If I go there again.... I will go for deep fried chicken only, not for their ramen.
This is my second time dining at G-men Ramen. The first time I came was 4 years ago, I did not like it and never went back. I thought the broth was way too thick and salty, I could not finish my bowl. This time, my opinion for G-men Ramen changed by 180. Not only did I finish my food, but craved for more! I think they really upped their game or maybe it is just that I ordered the right food. I came in for late lunch and it was not too busy (usually I see huuuge line up around their opening time at 5:30pm). Being one of the only two tables in the restaurant, the food came quickly.

A good place to have drinks with friends. Fast service and decent food. My go to is the Ankimo (poached monk liver) and the soupless ramen. But im so dissapointed that the chicken skin appetizer plate and the fried rice bowl is now gone. Please bring those back! I dont know any izakaya shops that serves fried chicken skin here in Van. If u do, please leave a comment. 🤤 Shout out to Chef Minoru

I was quite satisfied with the food at G-Men. The ramen noodle soup was quite solid with a rich broth and toothsome noodles. Their staple small dishes, such as the Chicken Karaage and the Gyoza, scored pretty high for me as well. In fact for their sizeable list of interesting small dishes, I would like to come back here for an izakaya night if I’m craving for sake.

Delicious authentic ramen. I would eat there everyday if I could! The noodles are always perfectly al dente. Excellent quality control... food is consistently good. Their chicken karaage is very yummy! It's busy...there's usually a fairly long wait to get in, especially dinner time. I would recommend getting there shortly after they open to avoid the wait.

Takoyaki, $3.75: Since it was our first time here and wanted to try more of the menu, the four of us decided to split a couple of appetizers. We ordered the four piece takoyaki and this was simply delicious! It was drenched in delicious sauce and the takoyaki were a pretty decent size.

Their chicken broth has pork in it, and their okonomiyaki was terrible, it tasted like it was frozen for a long time. additionally as I was waiting I asked the waiter if they had chicken broth only, and I was told yes but that is not case as they mix their broth with pork. But at least they told me the truth.

Ramen is one of those foods that has gotten a rep for only being authentic if gotten from certain places (thinking Robson St.). However, with many pretty good ramen places located outside of the core, it kind of blows that theory out of the water. The subject of today’s visit is G-men Ramen, located on a tiny back road by Lansdowne, that’s PACKED with restaurants.

I ordered Tantan ramen. I personally did not enjoy it because the soup was too thick. I added corn which was extra $2. I think it is little bit expensive for some extra corn. When my ramen arrived they put way too much corn... It made my soup tasted sweet. I wish I can have less corn for less price..
Portion was huge, I couldn't finish it.
if i come back next time, I will try shoyu ramen.

My older brother and I took our cousin (who was visiting from the States) for his first taste of ramen. It was my first time as well so it was kind of a big deal haha. The restaurant itself is a bit small, so depending on the day/time you decide to go you might have to wait a little bit to get seated. Ambiance was pretty standard, though clean and comfortable all the same. The small size of the place gave it a nice extra bit of coziness, I thought. Food was VERY filling and reasonably priced. Our appetizer takoyaki and gyoza was definitely better than expected, though admittedly nothing extraordinary. Lastly, service was prompt and friendly. All hail the G-men! Give this place a try if you haven't done so. I know I'll definitely be back!

If you like quick turn overs, with a very tight seating capacity, and a decent lunch, this is the place. My friend had recommended this place. He said everything is fairly good here. So the next day I decided to come for lunch and hey, he's right.

Service is quick to seat you down and take your order. Half way into my meal I was given the bill. But that's fine I was needing to get back to errands. And most people who were dining looked like office people. I had my ramen and karage and back into the car I go.
The menu looked real good, I'll definitely come by again next time for dinner.

Update: July 16 2016
Dinner is delicious. Had the tonkatsu miso ramen, apparently most popular choice. It's a safe bet. Then got the akashiyaki, fried octopus balls in Bonito broth. Definitely had good flavors there. Last the okonomiyaki, Japanese cabbage pancake. Savory strong flavors, very comforting. Looks like I'm gonna bump my 3.5 rating to a 4. Service staff was very good tonight.
My friends and I had dinner here last night. As expected, it was very busy and the line up was long. We only waited 10 mins before we got a table. I got the miso tonkatsu ramen with no add-ons. It was pretty easy to get the attention of the servers even if it was busy. After about 15 mins, our food arrived. At first taste, it was pretty yummy!! But after a few bites and slurps of the soup, it's mediocre. Well that's coming from someone who's not a big fan of ramen. Hehe! Aside from the noodles, there are two slices of beef and a sheet of seaweed. Overall the food was so-so. Good first try! The service is very good though. They're very friendly and pleasant even if it's so crazy busy. The place itself is okay. Not the best if you want to take your time and chill with friends.

Went to G-Men with R. I LOVE THIS NOODLE. The soup is thick and creamy. The meat and the noodles are cooked just right. The egg is the best part, yolk is perfect. I think this came to $15.00 each. Don’t bother with fried chicken next time.

My husband loves this place so much! The noodles and the appetizers are really good. Although the wait is too long. It's good if u come in before they open. Customer service was ok. Staff are all friendly.

came here for a quick dinner, since my friend had planned to come in so joined them as well, was late, and the place is packed, so the waiters and waitress is hawking on our table constantly :) so ordered right away and ate two portions so i don't need to wait for my 3rd order if i need one. but portion wise is definitely alright, i ordered the rice, and my friend recomended the kimchi don, so tried that definitely good, and something different. and also the shoyu tonkutsu ramen, i'll say the broth is a little bit not much depth but definitely alright, and the ramen is okay as well.

overall i would say the food that i tried here is alright, and definitely maybe i'll order the chashu kimchi don but not the ramen.

Came to this place around 7 pm on a Friday night and it was super packed. Took us about 20-30 minutes to be seated. It took us 15 minutes beforehand to find parking. Once seated, we ordered our food. I went with the miso ramen with bamboo shoots. Bamboo shoots weren't well marinated enough to my liking but the broth...The broth was on another level at this place; flavourful, rich and multi-levelled, G-men takes a lot of pride in their broth and it shows. The depth of the tonkatsu broth was well detailed and you could taste the love and care (aka spices ^_^) which I thoroughly enjoyed. Only gripes I had about my dish was that the noodles were more al dante than I would have liked with some strands still connected together. Chashu was very thin and lacked flavour and was quite dry. Decent portions for the price though. All in all, I will definitely be coming back to try other dishes because I feel as if this place has something special and I feel like I haven't discovered the true potential of G-men.

The best place in Richmond to eat Ramen! One bad thing is the line, sometimes take 30 min the wait. Good service, most of people are friendly and offer fresh, delicious and fast ramen!

NO TAKE OUT ! A lot of ramen places make it the soup separate from the noodles, but they do not even try to do it. I don't know why. Take out just soupless noodle. I have been a loyal customer coming all the way from Burnaby just to eat ramen at Gmen. Very very very disappointed.
Justamorsel
For this Wednesdays Foodie Getaways, I choose to venture off to Richmond for some ramen. Usually when you think of ramen in Vancouver, the first place you think of is Downtown. But there’s one place in Richmond that people think of for ramen and that’s G-men Nanchu on Alexandra street. So how was my much anticipated visit to G-men Nanchu, to be succinct, it was a disappointment.
Simon
G-Men Ramen is a tight little space with a totally inadequate waiting area (but benches right outside) because of the queue that apparently forms every day, not just Friday and Saturday nights. However, turnaround is quite fast. There is also "bar seating", which actually isn't that bad as the bar table is quite wide. Good for couples since they are side by side anyway.
Jenny L
We ordered the miso ramen with less salt, chashu don, and salmon sashimi. The highlight of the night was definitely the texture of the noodle, bouncy and with the right chewiness. It's by far the best ramen texture I have had amongst all the ramen places I have tried. Chashu don has a good portion and the meat is tender and not too salty. The sashimi could be fresher as it was a bit soggy. Small place operated by Japanese. We visited on a weekday night at 8:30 and had to wait 15mins. Avoid going in at rush hour if you don't like to wait.

If you enjoy spicy ramen, you HAVE to try the RCMP ramen from g-men. It is actually ridiculously good. Add in some garlic for an extra kick and more flavor. Their gyoza and chicken karage are amazing as well !
Fork.it
Came here on a recommendation from our Ramen loving brother. We loved the instructions on the wall; teaching newbies to eat the first bit of ramen in it's original form then adding whatever you like (garlic, vinegar, hot sauce, etc). The ramen itself was full of flavour, our favourite was the Tan Tan.
Domo Is Craving...
Had a ramen craving recently so we decided to hit up G-men for dinner. Now G-men is located on Alexandra, so that undoubtedly means if you're going at a busy time like 7pm, you're going to have a bad time looking for a parking spot! Took me so long to find a spot, I ended up settling for street pay parking. Their lot at the back of the restaurant is packed full, and then some, meaning all those illegals parked in the driveways of the parking lot where there is no actual spot.

Tried most of the ramen in the shop. I like the Rcmp ramen. Decent amount with good broth. A small shop with long line up during rush hours. Spicy tuna don is around $9 but it is abit too small. Not bad
Every Day Is A Food Day
It’s been many years since I’ve posted about G-Men @ NanChuu. Not because I haven’t revisited in all these years, but sometimes when I revisit a restaurant, I just simply want to eat and enjoy my food. Well after go-karting with SS, SF, and J, we decided to grab some ramen in Richmond and G-Men was what was suggested. There is literally always a line up here – and I’m not really sure why because I don’t think it’s as good as the ones in downtown. I guess there’s few ramen joints in Richmond, so this will do. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes for a table.

I have been in vancouver for 20+ years and for the longest time i was hesitant to try out ramen in vancouver because it tasted so horrible that the frozen stuff from T and T was better than what was being served.

For example, about 12 years ago people kept telling me kintaro was the best, so I went and tried it, and was very very disappointed that their ramen was so bad it was even worse than the frozen ones imported from japan from T&T. After Kintaro, people were raving about benkei, tried that and was dissapointed again. It wasn't until G-men came along in continental did I find one that I deemed to be ok for consumption.

The ramen here is decent, their izakaya offerings are pretty decent as well. I wouldn't call any of their offerings spectacular but it is a big step away from kintaro and benkei. Since their opening, some chain stores from japan have also come over here and settled themselves in the downtown area, they are much more closer to the ramen I'm used to from Japan and if they weren't situated in Downtown I'd actually go more often.
Alice Ye
Very satisfactory dining experience! The noodles and other dishes were just as delicious as me and my friends have expected. The only two tiny things that i would pick on are the fact that every topping on the noodle was cold, which makes me a little uncomfortable when eating, and that the desserts were unavailable. Other than that, everything else were great. Especially the little japanese waitress, she wa soo nice! Just regretting that we didn't leave more tip for her.
Dennis
We showed up at 6:00pm and had to wait 20 minutes, so seating is limited, but that's because it's popular for it's great service and ramen. It's like going to Japan! They set the place up like they did it for their family, so you know they will treat you great and feed you well. Some places treat you like customers, overpriced and low quality food to make maximize profits, not this place!
Linda
This is my favorite place in Richmond for ramen! Good service, good food, but very limited seating. If you want to avoid the waiting time, I would highly recommend going there no later than 7pm. My top 2 are the Miso Ramen and the Tan Tan Men (the sauce is pretty thick, I always ask for extra soup).
RS1234
The flavours and service are both great. Aside from ramen and gyozas, the mentaiko rice is highly recommended also. Quite busy and a small place, so be there early.
Jennifer Yen
We love gmen! Although we live in Vancouver where there are many other choices for ramen, we always find ourselves back here despite the limited seating and long line ups.
Jenny
Average ramen place. Tiny seating areas and a bit of a line up. Their menus seemed very unhygienic and made me feel like I had to quickly decide on something without giving much thought. I've always gone with the tonkatsu as the one to give a try at a ramen place. It had a good flavour and loved the texture of the noodles.
Will probably be back if I didn't feel like eating at other restaurants nearby.
Karen
My coworkers and I had a craving for ramen last week so we all headed down to Richmond to G-Men Ramen , a little restaurant on Alexandra Rd. The place was quite busy for a weeknight so be prepared to wait a while... We all ordered a bowl of ramen and some sides, including AAA beef yukke, pan-fried ebi gyoza and chicken karaage. Unfortunately our group was so hungry they dug in before I could get pictures of everything! ...The ramen broth was very thick and fatty and delicious.
GoMunch
My go to ramen place in Richmond. It used to be really good but ever since they merged with Nanchu it's not the same. Shoyu Ramen is normally what I get and these days the soup base is not that flavorful and salty. I really hope they can be the awesome ramen shop they used to be soon.
Laughingman
Good stuff. With the recent boom in Ramen places, it's easy to lose track of joints that are providing solid flare without over-hyped hipster garbage. This falls into the classically good Ramen stalls of old. I don't normally go for Chicken broth (as a confirmed Pork addict) but G-men is a good reminder that chicken broth done well can be truly excellent. True, there are no prok jowls, no black broth, nothing unique about this place, but the quality is high enough that you don't even notice.
Sam
Not bad for Richmond.... First time going here.. just a note for people who have never been here before - there is a sign-up sheet once you walk in and you are supposed to write down your name, number of people and if you prefer table or bar (which no other patrons bothered to tell me until some people walked in after me and wrote their name).
Anyways, it was about a 20 minute wait for us on a Saturday evening at around 6:30pm. We got seated at a table which has condiments and instructions on how to properly eat the ramen.
We both ordered the tonkatsu shio ramen, in which he added a marinated egg on it and I ordered extra cheese on it. I thought it would be similar to Kintaro's cheese ramen, where they use freshly grated cheese and a piece of mozzarella on it but I was wrong. Do not order the cheese... it is just a slice of processed cheese which didn't taste good at all. Unfortunately, I had asked the waitress beforehand what kind of cheese it was but she didn't know, so I took my chances. Otherwise, we both really enjoyed the broth which we found quite thick so we got fuller even faster. The noodles were OK but I still prefer other ramen places. The portions were fair for the price we paid.

We also ordered the oysters and the beef tataki, which we both really enjoyed. Beef tataki comes with scallions and garlic on top for garnish which adds alot to the flavour. Oysters tasted fresh.

We would go again, just not during peak hours.

OK Food, Poor Service. Tried their Shoyu Ramen ~ noodle not bad, pork was too dry & not tender enough. Overall standard was inferior to the Ramen Restaurants in Downtown. Service was good, though the door waitress was a bit rude & kinda chased us away despite there were many empty seats & no ctmrs were waiting.

Quick Ramen Fix without the drive to DT. A quick fix when I crave for Ramen without driving to DT.
Parking can be a pain during dinner hours beware!

Delicious ramen! It was my first time here and I ordered the RCMP spicy ramen. The broth is thicker but still very flavourful. The ramen was chewy and seemed authentic. I'm a huge kintaro ramen fan but after coming here, I would say the ramen here is comparable to kintaro's. Definitely will come back.
Ben L.
Overall is not bad. There's no other competitive ramen shop in Richmond so this could be best ! The ramen soup is a bit creamy which I don't really like and food is slight to be at the salty side.
Foodjoy
Great Ramen. Pork salad in finely grated green onion was unexpectedly very delicious. The Ramen soup serving was not to overwhelmingly big and taste so good. (some Ramen soup servings are so big it makes you not to comeback in years.) Find a hidden treasure in the neighborhood.
Juky
Great ramen. I love ramen but it's hard to find really good places because a lot of non-Japanese places have "ramen" on their menu even though it's not ramen. Back to G-Men... The ramen is really good. They are cooked perfectly so they aren't too soft and have some 'spring' in them. I find the soup a little salty, but it's nothing new to me as most ramen broths are salty.
The restaurant has good atmosphere and the employees all speak Japanese. The menu for lunch is limited but they have some lunch combos. I still need to try the dinner menu because they have a lot of options.
Service is good and the servers are attentive. Price isn't cheap, but I'm willing to pay the premium for the food quality. If you love ramen, definitely give G-Men a try.
Eatxpert
The noodles is perfectly cooked. The proper texture, a bit thinner than other ramen standard but bit thicker than Chinese egg noodles. However, the soup base is extremely salty, to the point that burns my throat. Also, no tonkatsu broth during lunch hours. My friend's miso soup is also extremely salty. This place appears to over salt every food.
Barry Jung
Great ramen. But why close midweek? On wednesday night was anticipating a big delicious bowl of ramen only to find out that it was closed
Foodeater
Not bad.. Good noodles, tasty broth although a bit under seasoned. The broth was not hot, however. The joint was a tad frenetic with the loud music and all. As well, it was a tad pricy. But, pretty good.
Irene
I love the Tan tan ramen here. Service is efficient and I've been lucky never having had to wait for a table (I come for lunch). Looking forward to my next visit!

Good, but why you no tea!!!???. I came here with my girlfriend on a Monday night, but the place was still pretty full, I guess good food does attract customers no matter which day of the week.
I recommend looking at the specials menu, there was a tan tan noodle combo for 12 bucks, comes with a bowl of rice and a side dish. Pretty good deal.
The price is pretty high, costs us about $25 each. But the food was of decent quality.
I do want to complain though, that they charge $1 for tea now, it is unlimited refill, but don’t all the Japanese restaurants provide tea?
Rene
Italian Expensive. I was walking by meeting my honey and walked in because of the lineup and busyness. They told me food is Roman and is noodles. I am not Italian but OK so I had a Roman. Roman I guess is Roman because noodles is Italian. Anyway it was in broth with some veggies and meat and cost me $12. Expensive for noodles in broth and not much meat if you ask me
Jackson Pham
Not authentic ramen. Eat here only if you like limited seating (expect 15 mins - an hour wait), watered down ramen broth, and hurrying to push you out the door service.
Foodie101
Great Food. I love this place! My friends and I will always come here after our dance classes. There is always a line up though (sometimes even on Tuesdays evenings), but it's definitely worth the wait. Their salads are awesome, with their special dressings and fresh ingredients. Their noodles are also really good too. What I like about this place is that their soups are quite thick, so it's a different taste compared to other ramen houses in Vancouver.

I went to G-Men a few yrs back when it was still on Sexsmith and Cambie...it was some of the best ramen I had ever had. It closed down shortly after...

Fast forward to 2012, a friend had let me know that it had relocated to/reopened at this location, so I was eager to try it.

I had ordered a Torigara Shio ramen as well as some takowasabi. I was disappointed the moment the bowl arrived. It was not arranged very nicely, the proportions were small and there was very little meat. The soup was not overly hot so as usual I sampled the broth first. I'm no expert but the broth was very, very salty and it was not hot enough for my liking. It was definitely not the same Gmen quality I had sampled at the old location. I proceeded to try the meat, which was not very tender and disappointing. The noodles were next and like the rest of the bowl, one word...disappointing. Regardless it was late 2pm so I was starving, and as such I managed to finish the bowl quickly leaving much of the broth untouched. As critical as i may sound, food tends to taste better when I'm hungry so I believe my review may be even worse if I were not as hungry...or perhaps it was the time of the day I went that caused the drop in quality?

Anyways, like its noodles, the decor of G-Men had also changed since I last visited at its previous location. Seating is no longer as jam-packed, there is a bit less interior flare, the overall feel is more business than family, and although it is more comfy inside, better ventilated and less noisy...the trade-off is a loss of some authenticity

P.S. did not write about the takowasabi, but it's a pretty hard side dish to screw up...

Nice Ramen Joint. Came here before work and had some Shoyu Ramen which felt a little too salty for my tastes but the noodles and other ingredients were well done.

Also had the Takoyaki which is excellent, felt just like getting it at a food stand.

Shoyou Ramen. Decent ramen shop got the shoyou with extra noodles they gave a good amount of noodles only cost me 11 dollars with tips/taxes

Great ramen for lunch!. As of Feb 2nd 2012, Nan Chuu is now open for lunch! They serve the same great Torigara Shoyu/Shio Ramen that Gmen was famous for. It's great to have the ramen master back. Noodles are aldente, and the chicken based Torigara stock only available during lunch is very flavorful with a hint of smokiness. It's lighter and better than the one at Motomatchi Shokudo. They have the thicker Tonkotsu Pork based broth during dinner. Very attentive and friendly service which is the norm at authentic Japanese restaurants. I don't have to go downtown for great ramen!

No salmon?. I came here with a friend for a spontaneous dinner. it was quite late in the dinner hour, although we still had to wait a bit for a table. Overall, the service was acceptable, and the restaurant had a bit more of a polished izakaya feel to it. We ordered a bunch of items, but they were apparently out of salmon. A Japanese We had to make do with some other items. These all tasted reasonably acceptable, but none of them really "wow'd" me with their taste. Not my preferred Japanese place.

Pretty expensive plain ramen. The ramen is not terrible. It's decent. But with its price you kinda expect a bit more. With so many ramen shop around you kinda need to pick and choose. Be very picky

Good portions, good ramen, nice service. Great big portions, but wouldn't say it's good value because you pay $10 for noodles anyways so I guess you should expect a decent size.
The ramen itself is pretty authentic and tasty.
Service is pretty good as well.

G-man curry rice. Awesome.

Meh. Use to like this place but the cut of the meat has gone down in quality, way too fatty and rough. also an inconvenience since the tonkotsu soup base is only available for dinner and not lunch.

Great good. A small restaurant tucked away on Alexandra, this place offers none mainstream Japanese food (Sushi, Sashimi). Expect tapas style fusion japanese food. It's an experience in itself when exploring the menu. Food is exceptional but it does come at a price. Don't expect quantity but quality and don't expect to walk out of the restaurant with a full belly if you don't budget at least 25.00 or more for dinner (unless you're a small eater) - minus tips of course.

Not up to par. I was craving ramen for lunch while in Richmond, so I decided to give this place a try. Compared to the establishments at the west end of downtown Vancouver, this place is really not up to the standards. The ramen was undercooked, the broth was too light and salty (for both the shio and shoyu flavours), and there wasn't enough toppings. I also tried the takoyaki, and there was just one piece of tako in the whole piece.
I would just make the trek to downtown for a great bowl of ramen next time and skip this place.

Its quality doesn't worth the price. I have tried this place twice. Once is when this place was new, and once is yesterday. However, I didn't really like their ramen in both times. Their noodle is similar to the ones I can get from instant noodle, and their broth is too light for me. The recommendation which is some sort of home-made pudding isn't really that great either. I just realize they hadn't really improved at all. In spite of these, the bowl of noodle costs me $9. I would rather go all the way to downtown for better ramen with a lower price.

I am normally very picky about my ramen, this place though had an interesting feel to it, all the way from the decor to the noodles which were yummy, the takoyaki was so steaming hot that the surrounding squid flakes were waving, and yet the takoyakis were not scalding hot! Takes a special sort of cook for this, the ramen didn't taste over boiled either :) enjoy!!

Looking for Authentic Japanese Noodles?. Wow, thanks for Urbanspoon, because I took the advice to take my family to try this Japanese noodles place. We loved it. I always like to go to a Japanese resturant which is truely run and owned by Japanese. Not immitate stuffs. We tried 3 hot noodles, 1 cold noodles and 1 rice. Very nice, will go back for sure.

Disappointment. I was super excited when I heard that a new ramen restaurant has opened in Richmond (besides the HK-style ramen place at Parker place), but I was just setting myself up for disappointment =( They ran out of almost their entire menu and it was just early night. The quality of their food is also just so-so.

One of the best Noodle Houses EVER!. Just recently tried Ramen and haven't stopped since! For those on a tight budget but want to have something tasty, look for your nearest Ramen restaurantand chow down! I guess a new thing is adding shredded cheese (only some Ramen joints do it) such a great combo! This place brings me back to Richmond almost weekly because we can't stop eating it! Good service, but because they're so busy and so good, you're almost always waiting in line. Worth the wait though.

LOVELY PLACE. Great place for ramen in Richmond. Soup base is good, service was quick and friendly

Recommend the tonkatsu

This place is amazing. After a recent trip to sapporo and Osaka, I have to say, this is the closest thing to ramen I had while in Japan. The texture and taste of the noodle is good, while the soup based could have more variety, the 2 selection on the menu were excellent. I will definitely be back for more.
Johnny
Noodle texture and taste were good, however, the lukewarm soup destroyed it. Ramen soup should be HOT!

Always a line...and it was okay.. The restaurant opens at 11:30 on weekends and we arrived around 12. It was already packed. You must write your name and party size on the list outside. Luckily we arrived right before the crowd. I'm very surprised at the all the people who wait in line for this. They only have 2 kinds of ramen in soup during lunch time - the only difference is the soup base. I wasn't very impressed. It was good but I think Ajisai Ramen is better because there's more selection. I would love to try the pork bone soup ramen though.

Over all is good, but a few drawbacks. First, pork bone soup base ramens only available for dinner, didn't expect this. Second, I thought Takoyaki suppose to be crispy at the outside and soft at the inside not completely soft like a marshmallow. Finally, the Ramen. I only ordered Shoyu Ramen today, so can't compare with Kin-taro or other place because I only order Miso Ramen at the other place. I'll write more review after I try their pork bone soup base Ramens.

It is ok for a differnt style, it is mostly Japanese dishes, so no sushi like rolls or maki's. So like bento dons, te size is ok, but I have a huge appetite so it was small for me. And the system on how to serve is slow, and some what unorganized I give is three and a half out of five
Gotta Eat
Awesome food, especially the beef sashimi. I love salmon sashimi, but I can't eat raw beef. But my friend convinced me to try the raw beef and it was unbelievable. The taste was amazing, I don't know how else to describe it. Although the thought of eating it made me queasy, but the taste, hmmmm.

Awesome food that's on par with their sister restaurant, Gyoza King downtown. Menu appears to be very similar. I had some fresh live uni there and it tasted amazing. Everything arrived quickly and service was good. Seating is half tables and half booth seating which requires taking off your shoes.

As soon as I saw the picture of beef sashimi on the window of a restaurant, I stepped inside, hoping they have fresh beef. It was a quite small restaurant filled with wooden tables and chairs. The interior definitely looked like a typical izakaya style. Although izakaya is like a Japanese tapa bar, the portion is more substantial than regular tapa items, depending on which you choose. Since I was at a Japanese restaurant, I had to order SALMON SASHIMI ($8.95) and of course, AAA BEEF YUKKE ($9.25). Salmon Sashimi was good quality, and very tasty. It was small in portion, but I didn't expect big pieces from here anyways. I also liked my "AAA" Beef Yukke which was marinated in Yukke sauce, topped with a raw egg yolk, scallions and seasoned seasoned seaweed strips. Unlike most Korean Beef Yukhoe, the Japanese version is not served with thinly sliced pears. The raw beef was impressively fresh, and I liked the light sauce which didn't detract from the beef taste.

The other day I was telling Frank I crave for ramen, I crave for ramen. But didn't wanna travel too far, we decided to eat at G-men. Although I always complain that Richmond doesn't have a very good ramen spot, G-men is not too bad. Especially now that I've tried the super popular and always busy Butcher's Ramen, G-men is definitely somewhere up there too in the Ramen rank.

I wouldn’t say it’s the best since there’s still a big gap from ramen joints on Robson. I am a big fan of ramen and I’ve tried lots of ramen places in Vancouver. I personally like the noodles from Santouka, the pork from Kintaro and the eggs from Marutama. What if someone can put them together? Omg! Compared to other ramen joints, Gmen opens till late night, and you can always get a drink with some fancy small dishes. Since ramen is what we are here for, we didn’t try any other stuffs except ramen. First of all, their pork was very very tender! It just melted in my mouth, doesn’t like any other ramen pork I had before. The Shoyo soup was good but the Miso soup is very thick and heavy. The picture here is Shoyo ramen with extra Chashu. I like the soup, it wasn’t too salty and tasted just right. But not much toppings though. It just came with a sh

Back in high school, my friends would always invite me to go for ramen out in Downtown. The only joint I knew was Benkei Ramen, and we’d go there since they had so many locations. Now they only have one location that I know of on Broadway. I was not too fond of ramen before and never understood why my friends always wanted to go… I mean I could make ramen at home if I wanted to right?! Well years passed and I’ve recently grown to love the Japanese noodle soup. Back in the winter time, I begged Sleepy to take me to G-Men ramen since I heard great things about their ramen…. especially because they use tonkotsu broth here!! They also have got a great izakaya menu, but I’ve never really been into it since it is slightly pricey… When our grades finally came out, we went to celebrate the end of the first winter term. After that visit… we never stopped going and it has become one of our favourite ramen joints :D After hearing that G-Men is actually a sister restaurant of Gyoza King, I had to order their gyozas! This is their Pan-Fried Pork Gyoza (6 pcs $6.25) . At a little over a dollar a piece, these were slightly pricy. However, the bottoms were perfectly crispy and the skin to filling ratio was perfect. These are clearly made in house and were so yummy. It’s awesome how they have extra vinegar sauce on the side for those who love their gyoza sauce! Their Miso Ramen ($8.95) is SUUUPER rich. There is an option to get it less rich, but I did not expect it to end up like this. Despite that, the soup exhibited a strong miso flavour and I still enjoyed it. I felt slightly thirsty after, could there be a bit of MSG in the soup? The chashu was melt in your mouth tender and the handmade noodles were perfectly cooked. I added extra noodles ($1.25) to the soup, but the bowl was already big enough without it! The miso ramen also includes bean sprouts, but I asked for them to be removed.

... the tan tan noodle with an egg. This had a very interesting taste that was peanut-ty (this is probably not an actual word) and spicy, with shredded pork mixed in with the noodles. It was a little unconventional for my tastes, but it still was a joy to try.

A long long time ago…. G Men was actually located in Continental Plaza but I guess there wasn’t much enough hustle and bustle there to really take off. I remembering being devastated when I found out they were leaving, I mean where would I get legit Japanese ramen in Richmond anymore? Apparently my prayers were answered around a year and half ago when they re opened under a new name- NanChuu, still run by the same company though. I’m glad to say that they’re food quality hasn’t changed, it’s still heavily flavoured soup bases and chewy ramen but with a lot more variety than the previous store. Ever since this place opened up on Alexandra Rd (busy busy busy), I’ve been glad to call it my go-to ramen place :) I think I’ve eaten almost everything on their ramen menu…and I think that says something about the consistency and quality of their food. The more “regular” ramen (Shoyu, Miso,Shio) are just as strong as you would expect them to be and are definitely good choices to order if you’re

Their slogan is hilarious: "No Ramen, No life." Nan Chuu is located on Alexandra Road, and serves up some of the best ramen available in Richmond!

Overall G-men is a nice place to come to for ramen. The prices are a little higher though the quality backs it up as the food is fresh with vibrant and rich flavours.

Heard a lot about this place before I came, it’s my first time but it’s definitely one of the more popular Japanese restaurants in Richmond. I came here with a friend who has a few stomachs, so I was to be able to try a lot of different things while not getting too full. We debated a little on what and how much to order. After 15 minutes on the menu we decided to get the following: Avocado and Seafood Salad Deep Fried Oysters Assorted Sashimi Shoyu BBQ Pork Soup Ramen BBQ Pork Rice Gyoza The food came way faster than expected, and the portions were huge in relation to the price. The Avocado and Seafood Salad was very fresh and it was huge! The amount of dressing was just right in my opinion, not to sour, just right as an appetizer. Nothing you could expect more from a salad. Next came the Deep Fried Oysters. It was very freshly made, but a little too strong tasting in my opinion. I’m not really an oyster person. But in terms of the outer crust, it was very well fried, it was soft and f

G-men is part of the GyozaKing group which is made up of several restaurants including Gyo-O which I went to last month. We were seated immediately when we arrived but I noticed there aren’t a ton of seats. By the time we left, there was quite a crowd at the door. There are a lot of cute decorations around the restaurants and plenty pictures of their food on the menu and the walls. There were instructions on how to eat your ramen on the wall. GyozaKing seems to design their restaurants to be very visually appealing What we ate (and drank) Grape Calpico (non-alcoholic), Little Mermaid, and Le Grand Bleu Grape Calpico was exactly what its titled. Grape juice and calpico (if you don’t know what calpico is, imagine Sprite milk). It was sweet and carbonated but there wasn’t much to it. Little Me
