Review M Sushi Bar - Richmond

Munchica
Tried the oshi sushi lunch set ($23.95). The sashimi was standard, the miso soup was good, but the oshi sushi just tasted like mayonnaise. In fact, the layer of mayonnaise was so thick, it was thicker than the fish layer. The presentation however was very nice and beautiful. Overall, an average sushi experience.

Overall a bit disappointed. Avocado in the roll is raw today. I thought I’m having cucumber in the volcano scallop roll. It turns out to be the avocado. Sashimi was a bit dry. It looks old. We wait for a long time to have our main dish of aburi nigiris. It’s a bit too long. Compare to Taka, the aburi is not impressed. You know what I mean if you eat them back to back. Price is reasonable for a quality Japanese lunch.

The food is very fresh and very meticulous, but the price is a little high, but it is worth it.

The menu said this is sukiyaki. But it is not. We asked the waitress. She said every restaurant has different kinds of sukiyaki. How ridiculous! You cannot never call a shabu-shabu as sukiyaki.

Absolutely delicious. Super fresh and super yummy. They have fresh Wasabi! You know the sashimi is gonna be good when they use fresh Wasabi. The outside looks like a strange hole in the wall sushi joint, but the menu says different! Look at my pics and you'll. See what I mean. Order everything!!!

$18 grilled squid tasted like chalk, with tin foil on it 🤢, $24 foie gras unagi oshi is hella overpriced for how small it is nowadays. The only thing I liked before was the foie gras unagi don and it has gone bad. Overall it is a horrific and terrible experience that's not worth my visit anymore.

The sever told us maximum dinning time is 90 minutes, however the wait was almost an hour for us to get some raw squids, and the sushi is definitely not worth for waiting an hour, prices are too high, will not go there again👎👎👎

I came here to celebrate my birthday, without any reservations as it was decided on the spot and so that was why we didn't reserve. However, we were lucky enough to grab a table, even though the server told us it would be a wait because we didn't want to sit at the sushi bar. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long for our table, so it is recommended you book a table early!!! I must say wow! the food was amazing, I ABSOLUTELY loved their Mr. Lobster roll and the volcano scallop roll, sooo tasty. The lobster was not hard or rubbery and the scallop roll was so umami. The toro nigiris was very tasty too. The only thing I didn't like was their oishi/box nigiris...there was just too much rice to fish ratio...other than that, I had a very good dinner. I recommend my friends to come here every time we are in the area. Prices are on the expensive side and it doesn't seem like it is made by authentic Japanese people.

This sushi place is a diamond in the rough... The food could come out a bit faster but this is not fast food sushi. This is gourmet, well crafted sushi and dishes.

September 30, 2017

I finally have chance to try this restaurant with hubby for dinner... it's same price as mega... but it's not that expensive as it's show on chinese newspaper.. 2 of us paid $170 for dinner.

We had:

A5 wagyu beef sushi with gold leaves on... don't taste like A5 grade... not worth for $11 / piece

Uni sushi.... so fishy, not that fresh, but it's cheap ... just only $5 / piece

Foie gras sushi ... I ordered 2 pieces first ... it's really melt in my mouth and tasty.. so... I ordered 6 pieces more.

Aburi hamachi Toro.. . it's supposed half cook and pan seared the outside.. leave inside raw... but they over cooked it.. it's waste the hamachi Toro... so disappointed.. cannot taste the natural sweet from the fish... no wonder it's just only $5 each

Aburi Saba... over cooked... extremely fishy

Beef tataki... the sauce too sour underneath the chewy / no beef taste beef.. deep fried garlic chips are too strong favour to cover the beef taste

Volcano scallop roll ... too much chilli sauce... cover tobiko and scallop natural favourite

Toro sushi ... it's melt in my mouth too... very fresh ..

Hotate sushi... nothing special

2 large beer..

Omg.. including our table... only 3 tables of customers with extremely slow serving... if you are really hungry.. don't go there... lucky that we are not that hungry... we can wait...

It's not that expensive as another blog said... it's about same price as mega...

They don't have their own washroom, you need to next building's public washroom.. the interior of the restaurant look like school cafe more than high end Japanese restaurant... don't even match their prices of food.

I took some pictures from their menu.

I found out they are not newly open... they open at least a year... they have 10% off promotion till end of October.
Domo Is Craving...
I am SO happy a new sushi place has officially opened up their doors in Steveston, Richmond. The restaurant itself is not that big… approximately 20-25 people can be seated. My friend and I went there during our lunch break and we were the only customers at 1pm during a weekday. We actually enjoyed being the only customers there at the beginning.. so we can take our time capturing photos without people staring at us, even though I’m pretty sure it’s a natural thing nowadays when you go out. Cameras always eat first.
