Review Browns Social House - Richmond

Scotty Frenzee
Great location, nice patio. Excellent service. I was in Richmond for business for several days. We ate there several times and by happy accident, we got the same server everytime. She has such a positive demeanor and was very pleasant to be served by. Thanks again Jen.

Went there at night, was extremely quiet and had good vibes. Nice set up for a small social house. Food was decent, found it a bit weird they add beans to nachos. Service was a bit slow, again, there weren’t a lot of tables around so I was a bit shocked I had to wave another server down to get our bill.

Very tasty! The burger was so filled. Fries freshly made. Steak was cook perfectly to my likings.

The tuna poke bowl was very good except for the fried seaweed/kelp which was very chewy.

Excellent service, good food, especially the burgers and drinks. Patio is not busy usually.

A bit snug but a nice place for dinner. I attempted the veggie burger and it was really good! The fries that came with it needed a bit more time in the fryer. The service was good too! (I assume the not so pleasant looking rag resting on the kitchen counter was used to wipe down the counter only)

A great casual place to meet up with a group of friends for a social beverage, snacks, and conversation. There is seating both inside as well as on their patio.

The food and service was ok at best. We were there at 4:30 on a Sat. and there was only 6 customers in the restaurant, yet we waited 3-4 min at the door before anyone notice we were there. Once seated, the waiter came by right away and took our drink order, but it took almost 10 min for our drinks to arrive. The food took about 1/2 hour to arrive, and that was the last we saw of our waiter, literally. Either he was on a break, or his shift was over. We had to flagged down one of the girls to ask for our bill. My Italian Job pizza tasted ok, at par with most other chained restaurants. The Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl, though the ingredients were fresh, was really tasteless. There was almost no sauce or dressing on it. Maybe it just this location as other Browns Socialhouse that Iv'e been to were pretty good.

Not a terrible place just not in love with the service. I ordered the cod bowl which is a piece of fish with salad and rice. The issue I had was it came with a “comically small” peice of fish. The only way to get a smaller piece of fish would have been to order a fish taco, though they still would have been a pretty similar size. I didnt complain because it was a visual issue, meaning the cook saw it and chose to cook it then gave it to the server who also saw it and decided to serve it anyway. It never should have made it to the table let alone been left to me to point it out. Unfortunately I dont give restaurants second chances so i wont he back to this location. The Social ice was great though!

I ate there yesterday and was violently ill afterwards. Would not recommend. I had the blackened chicken cowboy salad. Must admit something did not taste quite right but was not expecting to get so sick from their food. Very disappointed, will not be back.

Just a heads up to all of you out there that have food allergies - Don't go to Brown's Social House. I went to the Ironwood Location and was refused service because I did not have an EpiPen on me at the time. While I may see where they can argue the point that they are worried about getting sued ... I have never been refused at any restaurant in my entire life and understand the allergy is mine and I am taking chances by having other people prepare my food. Most restaurants in this day and age have areas in their restaurant where they keep it a nut free space. I was further angered by the fact that the waitress went away after taking my drink order when I told her I had a nut allergy then came back and told me I needed to produce my EpiPen. She was very gracious and apologetic though very flustered. I actually felt sorry for her. I feel that a manager should have come and discussed this with me and offered their apologies instead of fobbing it off on a staff member. I consider this extremely poor customer service and would never go to this restaurant again. Extremely disappointing experience.

My low rating is more for the chain and not this location specifically. Today I ordered a beef dip with fries. The so called 'dip' I don't think was a dip by any means. It was this light coloured brown stuff that didn't have any flavor and I could see the bottom of the white bowl. I think it was very watered down beef broth, even the powdered beef broth has more flavor then this shit. Then the fries, all I got was the skimming from the deep fryer, tiny bits of fried potato that were overly salty with sea salt. I think they stole the salt from the beef broth base and put it on the fries. They also gave me a 'portion' of ketchup for my fries vs give me the bottle, the portion they gave me wasn't enough, some of us like this fifth food group, don't deny us. I think this chain should focus more on quality of the food on the menu vs the quantity on their menu, then build from there

In my two experiences, never have I tasted such great fusion cuisine. My previous impression of the eatery was that it was just another "white food" place. Yet, turns out that Browns Social cooks up a good Asian-American, or even Mexican-Canadian dish. Sometimes, their portions may be smaller than expected, however, I love their food - seasoning, cooking, everything - as well as their irreproachable service!

The food at Browns Socialhouse Richmond was better than I expected. But just like the fleet of Donnelly pubs all over the city, the group of Brown Socialhouse bars and restaurants offer big screen TVs and alcohol specials, attracting the party crowds, when the quality of food isn’t their main focus. But from what we have tasted, they have tried hard to please. Morgan suggested for appetizer, we would get Ginger Beef ($10.25), a typical North Americanized Chinese dish often seen at food courts. It’s a messy dish but it could be tasty if executed properly. And it was not bad at all. The cooked brown rice at the bottom was an interesting touch. But if they really wanna provide some carbs for balancing the taste and texture, they should use little buns or little pancakes instead, which are less messy. GINGER BEEF My Potato Crusted Halibut ($17.95) was prepared well and the crust was nicely done. But I wasn’t sure the side dishes were working – there was too much going on in the almond rice and cowgirl salad, too many bold flavours and confusing textures. Com’on, too much is too much, and less is more! POTATO CRUSTED HALIBUT Morgan’s Chicken Fettuccine Carbonara ($16.95) looked like 2 dishes combined: the creamy pasta and the blackened grilled chicken breast. Morgan enjoyed it. I took a bite and it was not bad. The presentation could be a little tighter. FETTUCCINE CARBONARA For food, they have done a good job executing the dish presenting the main ingredients here at Browns Socialhouse Richmond, but unfortunately they are trying a little too hard to impress the diners with additional side items that are somewhat irreverent. But I admire the passion of their chefs and cooks. And I’m sure I would come back for their irresistible $4 house wine. Average Experience. The food was good, and I would surely consider coming back except that the background music is way too loud! There is a reason it’s called “background” music, because it should remain as part of the backdrop! Instead, it completely overtakes the environment and one ends up having to scream to be able to talk to the server. Even talking to others at your own table is a task in itself. Other than that, the decorations were nice and modern.

Not terrible. First let me start by stating that although I have given this restaurant a thumbs down, had there been a sideways thumb option I would have chosen that. I have been to Browns on several occasions, both in Richmond and Vancouver. The food is usually palatable, the exception being the tangled mound of uncooked pasta I once received. However the atmosphere, though tastefully decorated, is very loud. One must literally shout across the table and to the servers in order to be heard. On my most recent visit, it took two or three minutes before we were acknowledged and seated even though the restaurant was not exceedingly busy. It then took more than five minutes to wave down a server after having decided on our orders. Even our waters took a good ten minutes to arrive. Service was slow although our server was polite and apologetic. Having been out of the country for some years and going back to Browns I found the quality of the dishes to have diminished. The pasta I had ordered was dry and lacking sauce, with fewer toppings than I had remembered. Browns is not the best nor is it a terrible place to dine at. With a little bit more attention to detail this place has potential. But for now, based on this most recent visit, I am giving them a thumbs down.

Ok folks here we are again. We went to browns , six for dinner. What a mess! From servers who don't serve to cooks who don't cook. Awful , cold and small portions. Our waitress was hopeless to the point that we gave up and just tried to eat what she brought. Will not be back.
Jane
Browns not so socialhouse. When I first arrived the hostess were quite welcoming, though our waiter was just awful. She barely came around to check on us serving us the wrong order and cold. Not somewhere i'd visit again. Take your chances

Had the wonton special. Tasteless. It literally had no flavour, how do you do that? Music way too loud for lunch, server couldn't answer any questions and seemed to not know she was working. Wouldn't t go back

Not my Favourite. Tsawwassen is very limited in terms of restaurant selection, and Brown's has potential. The outdoor patio is nice, with warm blankets and heaters, which is where I would recommend you sit. Unfortunately, and I have heard this from younger folk too (I am 45), the music is so loud inside the establishment, that you have to yell to your table mates to be heard; like a bar rather than a restaurant. The food is higher priced which is fine when the value is there, but I get frustrated when I order a cowboy salad with too much greens and little of the "good stuff". I always feel like I am being gyped when I go to Brown's, so I tend to go elsewhere now.

Cool decor.

Your typical gastro pub food. We bought a groupon for this place for $12 we got $25 worth of stuff and chose to go the Sunday when they had specials on wings, pizza and drinks!

So we ordered the wings $6 (get about 13 wings)
pizza was $9 each (had the bbq chicken and the pesto shrimp)
ceasars were $4.50 so had 1

the pizza was very tasty, the dough had the right consistency..i would suggest the bbq chicken, not so much the shrimp pesto although they do put a lot of good size shrimp on the pizza.

Excellent staff!!!!. I came here a few nights ago with 2 of my buddies. The waitresses here are all super friendly and good-looking. My server last time was Terri, a gorgeous Asian girl (finally a little diversity going on here), she knew the menu, she was honest, letting us know that she doesn't eat seafood or red meat, but made some great recommendations on her personal favorites.
We weren't planning on staying a long time, but ended up being there for over 3 hours since the environment was so chill and I was loving the eye candy.
I will definitely be returning.

Wine list is too expensive but there is good stuff from BC. Food is either too garlicky or to spicy. About the only two good items are General Pau chicken and the chocolate cake. Why do I come back? The bartenders are cute..

Good NOT Great. Finally got a chance 2 try this place last nite and found the decor nice and staff friendly. However; they should concentrate on menu-refinement & selection more.

I had a difficult time deciding on what to have. I would like to see more share plates and originality. We shared the Cowboy Salad and shrimp/pesto pizza and they were good.

Bellinis were enjoyable on warm evening

Good. Feels like an earl's or boston pizza inside, so the atmosphere was lively. menu's not too bad, and the drink specials are pretty cool too.

Small restaurant but cozy. Ordered the curry stir fry and was very disappointed at the small portion.

Impressive and expensive. I've been here 3 times already, twice with friends and once with the family. I find that the food is really tasty.

The first thing I had was the Dragon Bowl, which is almond rice, teriyaki chicken, vegetables, red cabbage and some sort of yogurt which was a little spicy so I didn't really eat it. I found the chicken moist and juicy. Of course teriyaki always works with chicken and this is no exception. The vegetables added a nice balance; the red cabbage was an interesting choice but I liked it because it added something unusual to the dish. Really quite filling.

On my next visit, I had the Shrimp and Chicken Pad Thai. It was quite a huge serving (which was great, because I was starving). The peanuts and the vegetables add a nice crunch to the rice noodles. The shrimp was succulent and the chicken was tender. There was also a good amount of the rice noodle, which made me happy.

During my most recent visit, I ordered the fettuccine carbonara. I love love love this dish. Al dente pasta = happy Adrian. It could have used just a touch more sauce, but I'm still happy with the amount I got regardless. It was nice and creamy with just the right amount of cheese. The smoked bacon added so much flavour to the dish. The chicken was so moist and tender. The only minor issue I had was the slice of flatbread I got was over-peppered. But I didn't mind it because it was just that 1 piece.

During my first 2 visits, my table got the friendliest servers. They were knowledgeable and checked on us often. During my last visit, our server wasn't as warm to us. She was still nice but there was certainly a difference.

I also love the bathrooms here. Small but clean.

Would I go back? Of course. Just not on a regular basis as I find the prices a little too high for me. But I would definitely recommend going to this place for special occasions.

Cheap drinks, boring food.. Well you can't beat $4 highballs. But from a table of 15 people, at least 5 were really unhappy with their food. All of our food did come out at the same time and hot, but nothing was too great. I had the burger, and while it looked incredible with a lovely brioche bun, it was quite bland. The chipolte dip I asked for with the fries made it way better. Wouldn't eat here again, but good service and nice, relaxing place to drink.

Great for groups. I was planning a guys night out a few weeks ago and thought about going to Browns in Richmond near old work and kinda between everyone's work/homes. Had been to the old closed down location in Yaletown and had a wonderful time.

We got there and were greeted by a very friendly hostess who showed us to our table. The ambiance was very chic and a much more modern look then the previous location - reminded me of a boutique style restaurant. Our server came to our table right away and took our drink orders, which were brought promptly. We started with the Calamari Milanese (I think) after hearing a gentleman on the table next to us say that their Calamari reminded him of food from a recent trip to Roma. It was amazing! The Calamari had a bit of a spice kick to it which our group loved. Our group had a few people who wanted to make modifications to their meals, which our server assured us wouldn't be a problem. I had the pizza and was pleasantly surprised.

We ended the night with pie which melted in our mouths. Our waitress was very friendly and extremely cute and leggy and took the time to chat with us. The food was better then I remembered it being and we really felt like we got value for what we ordered specially because the ladies are so pretty and chatty. Will definitely go again!
What's not to like?

Soso. There was some sort of festival going on at Steveston Village so they blocked all the roads. My friends and I resorted to Browns instead for drinks. I had the Bellini and Rasberry Margarita, both were acceptable but they can't compare to some of the ones I have had at Boston Pizza or Moxie's. One disappointing aspect is the fact that they don't have chilled glasses for beer, especially on hot summer days! They have $6 dry ribs or wings everyday from 3 - 6 PM and the wings weren't bad. I like the ambiance but I think they should spend more time on menu selection and quality instead of decors.

Hot Stuff. I salute Browns. Anyone who hasn't been is sure missing out. It is hard noticing the hot bodies babes that eat here because the waitresses are so goddamned gorgeooouus!
I left them my number and hope to hear back. I am not really available but who can resist?
Worth every penny with the great food and caring service.

Didn't know what to expect here but when I first walked in it looked like another Cactus Club with different name. The food was comparable to the cactus club and found nothing special about this place. Came to have brunch but the menu wasn't very big on brunch. I don't think I'll be back as I didn't find anything special or different. The service was good and servers were friendly but I enjoy great food too

Good appys and beer, sushi rolls were mediocre but rest were good. Very pleasant service.

Beat casual dining. Best place outside Cactus Club to find leggy waitresses. Was surprised at the quality. Will be back. Good quality of wines

Wok Squid is stellar!

Good atmosphere and service. Go on Sunday, they honor the daily (Monday to Saturday) drink specials.

Great room with great décor. Service was exceptional, waitress was friendly and our food was at our table in no time. The Dragon Bowl is a must have, and if youre a burger enthousiast the Kobe burger is too die for. Certainly one of the better spots in Richmond for lunch dinner and even brunch, hands down.

Limited menu, loud music, no ambience. The price was reasonable and the décor was nice. I loved the camouflage print on the chairs. The food was so-so.

J and I wanted to try something different other than dim sum for brunch. I found Browns Socialhouse on Urbanspoon and its rating seemed not too bad, so decided to give it a try. As soon as we stepped inside the hostess were welcoming us, and the atmosphere was pretty good too. Our server was kind and courteous, checking us if we needed anything in a timely manner. However, the food was disappointing. I did not even finish it which is a big deal considering I'm the person who never wastes food whatsoever.

The taco was not as flavourful as I would have hoped. It was just average at best. The fried halibut was very good and there was a generous amount in each taco but the guacamole was so average and not worth the extra buck. Same with the pico de gallo. Nothing exciting here.

Selecting from the Two Handed Burgers(tm) section of the menu, I ordered the Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger ($15.75), which had jack cheese, bacon and chili mayo. And two-handed it was… because the puffy bun was way too big, especially when compared to the 1 centimetre of meat. The chicken was completely lost in the pillow of wheat, tasting only like chili mayo. It seemed like this was more of “bread with dip” than an actual burger. On the bright side, the Cowgirl Salad ( $1) was absolutely delicious! It only took me one byte to know that I loved it. It was a joyful

I started off the Bellini , which is always on special for $5. Pretty good deal, but I found that it was way too sweet for my liking. I felt like I was literally eating the fuzzy peach gummies! As for J, she got the Traditional Mojito, since there was a $2 off special going on. Chicken Quesadilla For food, I went with the Chicken Quesadilla , which was surprisingly presented very nicely.

We were seated in the bar area with some pretty high chairs. It even made me feel pretty short trying to climb up onto it and I'm already semi tall! lol =) I was a bit disappointed to see that our coasters were dirty where our drinks rest on. The place was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon. I'd say we got there at about 1pm-ish. It took us awhile to figure out what we wanted to eat. I had originally wanted something along the lines of breakfast, but none of the options jumped out at me. Marvs sis went with the Tahitian Tuna served with Almond Rice and a Cowgirl Salad (above left) . The cowgirl salad has candied walnuts, dates, tomatoes,

I've been to Browns quite a few times before. I haven't written a post on it yet because I always order the Tahitian tuna bowl - just like the one from Cats Social House . It seemed pointless to write about the same dish, but this time I finally tried something new. Yesterday was a good day to try the BBQ chicken pizza ($13.65) because all pizzas cost only $9 on Sundays and Mondays. The pizza was surprisingly good with tangy BBQ sauce and chunks of chicken, bacon and corn. I don't even like pizza that much, and I ended up having 2 slices. I wanted something sweet and sour, so I ordered the shrimp and chicken pad thai ($15.55). I did not expect it to be so spicy! The spiciness was the kind that burns, so I couldn't eat too much of it. I also found the noodles a bit oily, and the peanuts were not very fresh. But the seasoning and sauce were quite tasty. The #28 dragon bowl ($15.75) was exquisitely rich with creamy yogurt and savoury teriyaki sauce. Interestingly the yogurt was supposed t

Browns successfully pulls off twists on the traditional brunch menu. My prosciutto eggs Benedict ($10.95) had two soft poached eggs atop spicy tomato chutney, a smudge of goat cheese, and garlic flatbread.

I didn't get to try the Dragon Bowl but was told that it was pretty good. I personally had the burger and was not really too impressed with it. Wasn't too impressed with the fries too.
