Review Mathai Hotpot Restaurant - Richmond

Everything was great! The soup was great, food was fresh and also they have cooked food like deep fried chicken wings that are part of the AYCE too! All their deep fried skewers are perfectly made with great flavour. I would honestly go there just for their skewers!

My personal favourite hotpot restaurant in Richmond - formerly Chubby Lamb Hotpot a few units down, but they shutdown. MaThai is great for the variety of ingredients they carry, really tasty broths, and cooked food options - particularly the SKEWERS! Skewers are grossly overpriced everywhere you go, so to have them included in AYCE is the greatest thing ever. This place should be packed more often, but I guess they haven't invested much in marketing, so let it remain a hidden gem!

My favourite AYCE hot pot place because the food is always fresh/good quality, price is right, tons of different drinks, great service, and they NEVER skimp on meat like most other AYCE hot pot places do. I come here every weekend. I'm here right now! Haha

Food was pretty decent for the price. $130 for 4 people all-you-can-eat. They did forget to place one of our orders but other than that, service was friendly and seating comfortable.

Food was ok, service was the worst because we didn't speak the language and last I by accident forgot to give a tip and the server demanded I gave her a tip and she didn't let me leave the restaurant until then our bill for 2 ppl came up to $60/ and without anything to drink not good at all for this price.

A good AYCE hotpot. However, they don't feature oyster on the menu. They make it up with skewers.

The food was fresh, service was good. Better than the previous owner of this location. Will be back!

The Best Hot Pot place in Richmond, customer service was quick and very friendly, food was top notch quality like holy Angelina Jolie! This is my go to place from now on!

I been to many different hot pot places in town. This is one of my favorite. Prices and quality of food are good. I strongly recommend this place to other.

Great food and hot pot all you can eat offerings, and efficient services and clean. Great price. I always visit and take AYCE menu when I feel really hungry. Highly recommend to this restaurant over other AYCE hot pot places.

When they first opened.. everything is good.. now.. Service is bad.. food is bad... they give out 10% off to ppl that check in.. n take a picture.. maybe thatz why so many ppl check in and rate so well?

The service was fast friendly and efficient however when I went to pay for the bill they told me there system is down for debt machine and I wasn't able to pay for it ... I told that person we didn't have cash on us because they had a sign that clearly said interact accepted but that worker told us to walk to the bank ... Which is about 5 blocks away which pissed us off ... Luckily we were able to find some cash in our other wallet so we manage to pay for the meal at the end. However the person didn't want to compensate for the trouble except just saying sorry ... Nevertheless we will return cause it was so good but I just hope they get there shaw system resolved ....

室內裝潢乾淨明亮，空間感還算舒服。冬陰功湯底微辣中帶酸，濃郁的香茅非常醒胃及好味，真叫人無法抗拒，品嚐後馬上愛上了它。火鍋菜單的選擇基本上跟其他火鍋店差不多，不過此店提供了很多熟食的選擇，例如各式烤肉串，甚至還有川辣鴨脖，泰式鳳爪，炸小饅頭等都可以吃到呢！

MaThai had a Groupon deal available for a shared hotpot for 2.  MaThai is located along Alexandra Road in Richmond so it will get quite busy if you are driving in.  We opted to do some shopping at Lansdowne mall first, then we left our car there and walked to MaThai. It was a nice day so the walk was nice, it was only a 5 minute walk.

EXTREMELY TERRIBLE experience. I will definitely not come back to this restaurant. Never. <br/><br/>I checked their menu online and it seems that they serve a variety of dishes. So I decided to try the all you can eat hotpot in a weekday evening with my friends. There were only two people eating on a table when we got there. A young waitress and a male cashier were working. The waitress showed a cold face from the beginning and did not smile at all. We immediately felt that we were not welcome after we entered the restaurant. A couple came in when we were eating and left in a few minutes. I don't know the reason but I can say now that they made a wise decision.  <br/><br/>Besides the terrible service, they do not want to give you the dishes you ordered. I understand that they serve the meat in a plate no matter how much you ordered. But they only gave two for each dish even though we ordered two fried chicken wings, chicken nuggets,fish cake and yum stick for each person. Please remember we have three people, how were we supposed to separate those two chicken wings and other fried stuff between us??? We reminded the waitress and she gave one more for each dish reluctantly. A middle aged woman came and said this is common in AYCE restaurants. They feel they are doing the right thing by not giving the items the customers ordered. We were angry but still asked them politely to give us a little bit more. At that moment, we did not expect they would give all the items we ordered after all that happened. After several polite requests and a long time, a few more fried stuff came finally and the woman told us it was almost two hours and it was time to pay the bill. The terrible service ruined the mood to eat.<br/><br/>The quality of the food is also quite bad. The fish cake is very thin and the chicken nuggets are the frozen nuggets you can get from any supermarket but very very tinny. The pork belly is dry and not fresh at all. The beef skewer is very fatty and the chicken gizzard skewer is dry, dark and obviously overcooked. The sesame sauce we paid extra money for is not good and does not the smell or taste like real sesame sauce.<br/><br/>What's worse, this restaurant is not honest. We added two sesame sauce but they charged us three. The bill is hand-written. I did not do the calculation and found that they OVER charged us 1.5 dollars after I came back home. What a DISHONEST restaurant!!!<br/><br/>All in all, extremely BAD service, BAD and not fresh food, and DISHONEST. This is not the first time I tried a AYCE hotpot restaurant but this is the first time I had such a TERRIBLE experience. I will definitely not come back to this restaurant. If you do not want to spend money but get bad food, terrible service and a bad mood, please don't come.

I have been through my fair share of ayce hotpot places but this one has held my heart for quite some time now. Great quality foods for an ayce, it is definitely worth your buck. The beef is mouth-watering and veggies are always fresh.

All you can eat hotpot here and on their menu they also have all you can drink plum juice. I recommend the Thai broth, it is very nicely done. I like how they also have cooked items as well to order on their sheet. Service staff is small and they really do hussle. Remember to tip your server well cause they are working hard... We had a young chinese girl with glasses serve us and she was amazing. They have a lunch menu too and I will come back to try that one for sure. The pictures look great!

Had dinner here tonight! Service was great! Really enjoyed our server! She was attentive and had a smile each time she came around.<br/><br/>Though our first order of food took a while to come out, in the end it was worth the wait! <br/>We had the spicy chicken and herb soup base which had a good flavour! The oysters were fresh unlike the ones we previously had elsewhere! All our dishes were quite fresh! We had 2 orders of their deep fried chicken wings from the "cooked foods" and they were delicious! Perfectly seasoned and fried! <br/>We also ordered 4 plum juices which tasted perfect! And 2 beers. <br/><br/>There were 5 of us. 2 kids and 3 adults, our bill came to about $125 which was not bad at all. We will definitely be back! :) <br/><br/>

Understanding that we had a Groupon, we didn’t expect the greatest things from MaThai Hotpot Restaurant. Even though the expectations weren’t high, I was still a little disappointed and not satisfied with our meal. Personally, I don’t feel that this Groupon was a good buy.

Expensive, food quality not good. Expensive: $21 per person plus cost of soup base.<br/>Soup has no flavour. They cheaped out on spices and flavouring.<br/>Quality of food not food and not to mention they have the thinnest slices of meat.<br/>Would never go again.

GOOD FOOD SELECTION. A new restaurant situated where Cattle Hot Pot used to be. Their AYCE hotpot selection is great!! Tons of food to choose from. Parking can be tricky, especially on weekends as that whole road is filled with popular restaurants.

Very good hotpot restaurant. MaThai Hotpot just open three months ago, the meat is very fresh, it is all you can eat hotpot, also all you can eat skewer, the place is clean. This is my first time there, I will highly recommend.

Fresh seafood and awesome service. I went here with my family looking for late night snack, and found this new hot pot place. I was suspicious in the beginning, but the food turned out to be pretty good. Love it!

I was invited (secret diner) to try this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised.  Hot pot all-you-can-eat is the perfect meal for a cold day.  Fortunately, that gives us 10 months of prime Vancouver weather to try this place.  For $19.95 per adult, you get a large menu of items to choose from.  

MaThai is the newest Chinese hot pot restaurant to open along Alexandra Road in Richmond, and replaces the former AYCE restaurant Cattle Hot Pot . Being a big fan of hot pot restaurants and continuing to find regular ones for myself to frequently visit, MaThai has been on my list for a while. In addition, the director of MaThai invited me to try their restaurant. I received a coupon via e-mail, which was to be presented after my meal so I could blog about a true dining experience as a regular guest. The interior looks similar to the former hot pot restaurant but the staff is noticeably different, as in they are friendly! The waitress was also attentive and continuously added additional broth to the pot without us having to request. This is worth mentioning because at many hot pot restaurants it is hard to wave someone down and I usually wait until there is almost no more soup base before making an effort to find the staff.
