One of the better places that I have been for an all you can eat hotpot place. If you order the coke or sprite, they give you cans and it's unlimited. We tried the 3 tier with the hotpot on the bottom, the pan fry on the second tier and the steaming on the top. I found the top two tier quite slow and the selection was quite limited for the two tiers. When I do go back next time, I would probably just stick with the hotpot. The quality of the food was pretty good and selection was better than most that I have been to. So for the price, I thought it was quite worth it for the selection.
We went there for my bf's birthday with 4 of our friends. Everyone enjoy this place and we were all amazed by this 3-tiers hot pot thing! Its pretty cool isn't it! I couldnt found anywhere else that has 3 tiers hotpot, whether you get to do hot pot, bbq and steam food at the same time.
Their service are really good, compare to other Chinese hot pot place...lol
Their food are fresh and tons of variety for hot pot. And even give to free sauce when other hotpot places charge you for every single sauce... However, i wish they have more variety for bbq choices and more choices for steam food.
Would definety go back and recommend to others! :)
A little tip : if you happen to go there for their 3 tiers hotpot, remember to get the bbq chicken wings for bbq!!
Ok place for all you can eat hotpot. The 3 tier pots are interesting to look at (hotpot on one level, BBQ on another and steaming on the top) but don't really do it for me, as the BBQ tier cooks veeery slowly, and the meat isn't very well marinated. But thankfully the beef and pork here are of decent quality, and the complimentary desserts are pretty good too. Service is a little on the rough side, even for Richmond standards, but I can deal. Overall I'd prefer Toyotomi for around the same price (get beef sashimi, seaweed salad, more fried items and better service).
I like food, I eat when I am happy, I eat when I am sad, I eat when I am bored, and I eat to say I have eaten it. Today I wanted to eat my feelings and my guest suggested hot pot. Hot pot is one of those comforting meals where you cook the food at your table. The process of eating as you cook gives you plenty of time to talk. The goal is to eat all that you can and claim your money’s worth.
It was my first time there. The food and the service were good. But I found an dead tiny insect in my vegetables and I told the waitresses. She says it was a vegetable insect, she pretended nothing happened. I told her I cannot eat the insect. She quickly took away the veggies and my plates and told me she will give me new veggies. The new veggies came then my girlfriend found another bigger insect. We put the veggies away and didn't eat it. Paid $31/each including tax and tips.
I've seen pictures of the 3 tier hotpot and had to find out which restaurant served it! Lucky enough we drove by clay pot and I was wondering why it was so busy one night. I looked up the reviews and there it was! The 3 tier hotpot I've been subconsciously looking for!
We made reservations to come in the evening and good thing we did because it was very busy. The servers were quick to seat us and take our order. However, the pot came and the food took so long to arrive that the hotpot broth had to be re-filled.
When the food finally came though, I loved the different methods of cooking the items. Either boil, grill or steam. And the unlimited order sheets had a decent variety. The only thing I'm not used to is extra charge for egg, cilantro and hot peppers. These could be free in Calgary. They do include a complimentary dessert pp. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable experience and I would come back for $20.95 pp 3 tier hotpot!
I went to Claypot yesterday with my family and it reminded me that I still didn't blog about my previous experience yet. I went to Claypot for the first time a few weeks ago and i LOVED it. First off, I recommend booking a table before going because this place gets packed extremely fast, especially during cold Vancity days.
We had a table of 10 so we got 4 different soup bases, my favourite was the Tom yum. All of the veggies, meat and seafood were fresh. It was odd that they charged extra money for extra sauces though. Don't expect the servers (except for the young man who appeared to be the owners son) to say anything or even smile at you. The best part of the meal was the fried buns with condensed milk.
All you can eat hot pot with a grill and steamer as well. Thought the design is efficient, I feel that sometimes it was difficult to get food into and out of the hot pot because the grill was in the way.
It costs extra for the soup base so it's a bit pricer than expected. Also, they provide two sauces and and extra would have a charge.
There was a large selection of meat, veggies and noodles. Even thought you wrote down the number of pieces you want, they will give you more.
Good choice if you are really hungry!
Cool experience where you can steam, BBQ and boil food. The food is not the freshest, but it's not the worst. Good variety for the price you pay. Service is what you would expect at an AYCE, if you expect good service at AYCE, go somewhere else. All in all it's a solid hotpot place, not the best but certainly not the worst.
This is my first time to write a review in urbanspoon. But this is not my first time to dinner in Claypot.
I was there tonight 15/8, they were so busy even today is Thursday, we were group of 4 without reservation, but we still have a seat. We came tonight because we heard from radio ads, they have the new BBQ (Grill) now, that was so nice and so new to us, we never see this before, there is a pot, you can do hotpot at the side and grill the food on top of the grill pan.
at first the servers burn the pan on the fire, we were question about the pan, but after the pot came WE KNEW IT, unfortunately i haven't took pic.
then we made our first order..... a bit long time not as usual "I KNEW they were busy" acceptable.... one of the server explain us how to cook, he was so nice... first belly, then beef, then seafood..."NO NEED OIL"
We got our plum juice always fill up, soup always fill up, even they were busy, we were appreciated!!!!
Dessert time!!! WTX... "SURPRISE" Tofu Puddling!!!! BEST you ever had!!
We were so happy , surprise, full, TOTALLY FULL.
The servers 's there was very nice (we spoke same language), working so hard, non-stopped service, but they look tired. ---- 4.5 stars
The food always good, better than average (AYCE hotpot) ----- 4 stars
Dessert (will be back because of this)---- 5 stars
Will bring my family back on Sunday!!!
Best choice for hot pot on a visit to the Lower Mainland this weekend! I chose Claypot based on a few things: reviews, open for lunch, menu variety and ability to get a reso in English.
I enjoyed their sauce so much! Hot pot sauce makes the meal, it's important to make it tasty. The service was really good actually! I think they thought the solo white girl was quite adorable. There was plenty of selection, nothing missing that I expected. As with many places, I didn't get some of the items I ordered, but I was so stuffed I didn't care to follow up. I would have liked a thicker peanut or sesame paste sauce. All in all this was a great experience for this seasoned hot pot diner. Made me miss Taiwan :)
I like it. I'm surprised at all the negative reviews. This is always my go to place for hotpot. Parking isn't the best but at least they have big tables perfect for larger parties. I've never had any problems with the service before. Yes they're always super busy but I've always received polite and prompt service.
Fire it up!. Fantastic hotpot resto. on a chilly day, hotpot really hits the spot. claypot offers a vast selection of quality hotpot items to choose from. luv the deep fried crunchy fish skins... yumz. its no surprise why this place is always packed and damn difficult to find a parking space.
I was with a group of five, and honestly I have never ever received such good service from an AYCE place, or any chinese operated place. As I am Chinese myself, I am accustomed to getting bang for my buck, and learn to expect less on the service side. But tonight, despite being packed our reservation was ready within 5 mins, we had prompt tea refills (without asking!) from what seemed like the manager himself, and he actually kindly offered complementary drinks when not everyone wanted to pay extra to get unlimited drinks. When one order round was missed, our server was very attentive in bringing veggies we requested verbally, and visited our table twice to check if our new order sheet was ready. Servers were all very polite, personable, and there was an element of willingness to connect with their diners that I have not experience much else where in Richmond. Great clean modern decor, fresh food selection. Highly recommended hotpot experience!
Beef, Pork and Chicken Meal Balls are supposedly “house made”, but this is highly suspect and if that’s true then my name isn’t Fat Meg. And my name is definitely Fat Meg.
I’m 97% sure the only reason I actually eat hot pot is to douse my overboiled meats into excessive amounts of ultra savoury sauces I’ve spent ten minutes concocting and it was no different this Friday at Claypot Hot Pot & BBQ.
Sauce selection is not as extensive as others with only Soy and Satay Sauce included, so you know that when extras like Chopped Garlic and Green Onion are offered at $0.75 a piece, I shan’t be saying no. As much as springing for the Shredded Ginger seemed like a good idea, the Asian in me suppressed that burning desire.
The food is good, especially the meat dishes. The beef slices and pork are very tender and juicy. In fact, most of the ingredients are very fresh and I can’t find anything to complain about.

+4.5
Rich was seriously craving claypot rice, and we really wanted to go to Soup.com (best claypot rice!). However, since that's in Vancouver and our afternoon lectures are in Richmond, we opted for something a bit more local. We had passed the place called Claypot on Alexandria Road many times, but never ventured in as it is an all-you-can-eat hotpot place. Though judging by the name, Rich was convinced that he would be able to find claypot rice here as well. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted and led to a table for four that is slightly partitioned from another table. The tables had granite tabletops and a gas burner in the middle, most likely for the hotpot offerings. During the daytime, Claypot is more or less a Cantonese dim sum place. The gas burner was kept at a minimum heat, keeping a kettle
Thumbs up for the chicken, I guess that’s what they are known for! They claim that all their chicken are provided from Wing Tat Chicken Farm, so it’s guaranteed freshness.
One of our favourite hot pot places in Richmond is Claypot Hotpot on Alexandra... Aside from the discrepancies in the amount of food ordered and given, I still find meals at Claypot to be a treat. Endless beef slices are just amazing.
Waited for everyone to arrive and they all got there about 2mins apart from each other. Which was real nice of them to do so. But still gave me enough time to ponder over the menu sheet and tick away at it. Tony basically said to just start ticking off every item.
The food itself was delicious. The assortment of meat, veggies, and seafood was filling and served for some good, fun conversation. We sat in the so-called "VIP" dining
Awesome Hot Pot place! This is my first time seeing a triple decker system for hot pot which I thought was kinda neat. The food tasted great and service was good! It was very filling, and reasonably priced. The only con is that the chicken wings took forever to cook with this triple decker system. We also received some tasty tofu desert at the end!
From phoning in the reservation to leaving the restaurant, we got great service all around! The variety on the ayce menu please everyone and the food was excellent. We especially enjoyed the dumplings and wonton, but what was a pleasant surprise was the hot tofu dessert (made in-house) - simply delicious!!! Glad we came.
My favourite all you can eat hot pot restaurant for sure. They have the nicest staff; they treat me like family. I’ve been going to this restaurant for years and always the best quality meats and fresh veggies. Order the tom yum soup and don’t forget the fresh made Dough Noodles.
Highly suggest the buns and condensed milk!! My friends come just for them buns !!
When most of the HK style hot-pot restaurants are gone in the last decade, my friends recommended this one to us. My kid found this is an interesting experience. Food not bad with good service. Why not give it a try?
Mom wanted ayce for her birthday dinner so we decided to give this a try. It was a Monday evening and we were there around 6. We were asked to do a temperature check at the entrance and sanatize our hands. It was rather a quiet night because we did not need to make reso. We were able to choose our own table and we choose the booth by the window. It was a sunny day so i was quite worried that it would be too hot. To my surprise, the air condition was pretty good. Not a sec that we felt hot with the hotpot and bbq. Service was good and food came fast. Around $45/person all inclusive. I think the price is fair given the quality of food and the service. I would definitely come back, but only during weekdays.
Janice is very friendly and nice! Offered my friends to try both the Chinese dessert! We all loved it!
Great place to share a hotpot! It was our first time going to a hotpot place and the server was incredible. So helpful and patient. Gave us lots of tips on how to do it. Food was delicious and fresh! Incredible deal for all you can eat
