Review Dolpan Seoul Bbq - Richmond

We were a little disappointed to find out that we didn't get to BBQ at our table because it's all done in the kitchen. We had the BBQ Combo B which had 4 cuts of pork for up to 4 people. The portion was big and flavourful. Other than the BBQ, we weren't impressed with the bland japchae, the too sweet rice cake and the oily fried rice. The price I think was a little expensive too. The restaurant was clean, service was very good and parking was plenty. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Stopped by this plaza for dinner and ended up at Dolpan - it was empty when we got there at 7:30PM but every table was full when we left! We got the corn cheese ($4) to start. It was really tasty but the cheese didn’t stay melted for long. Next was the kalbi beef rice bowl ($15.50). It came with some well seasoned beef ribs and an egg, but it didn’t have any veggies. The best dish was the army hot pot. Good amount of ramen, bean sprouts, rice cakes, sausage, spam, tofu, pork belly, kimchi and topped with cheese! Also the perfect amount of spice. Banchan has to be ordered separately at extra charge. Service was great though!

Don’t know what exactly happened but since they change their menu, it’s getting worse. This place used to be one of my favorite korean BBQ restaurant. I’ve been coming here since before covid until recently. The food quality is really down the hill now. The seafood pancake I used to eat here was never like this. I saw the server REHEAT it in a small oven just outside the kitchen. So i’m paying almost $12 for a leftover??? It’s soggy and very2 oily. The soft tofu soup should be firry HOT so the raw egg they put on top could be cooked, but NOPE, we’ve been waiting for the egg to cooked like 10mins and it’s still raw. We ordered the BBQ combo C that is the most expensive one on the combo side, and the seve the sauce in a small plastic takeaway container. Server are not as friendly as the ones before. They don’t even ask how’s the food to us. I’m truly disappointed of the changes. This is sad!!!! not coming back here again. Sorry! From 5/5 Now it’s 1/5

Came here a while ago before covid. But this place was really good! Still remember it like it was yesterday because the quality of the meat was good. the soft tofu soup was good too, not my favorite but definitely up there. And comparing to some other kbbq spots the price isn't that bad!

Came here with friend recently. The restaurant is on the small side, so we had to wait a bit for a table, but they added us to the waitlist and gave us a call when the table was ready. The waitress was very friendly and polite, and I enjoyed the smaller atmosphere. The food was pretty good, albeit on the pricey side--I ordered the LA galbi combo which came with the galbi, kimchi, and kimchi fried rice with a small fried egg on top. The galbi was nicely cooked, although didn't have too much of a grilled flavour or char to it--but the flavour was good (the marinade seemed to give it a slight gingery taste). The kimchi fried rice was actually very nice--the flavour was not too spicy or overpowering. The portion sizes looked a bit small at first, but were actually quite filling. The one thing that surprised me on the menu was the charge to refill or order sidedishes that typically come for free at a lot of other Korean restaurants (if not included in your combo meal). But overall, a good experience.

Today was a very different experience from the last time I came here before covid. This place used to be one of my to go Korean BBQ places in Richmond. The BBQ used to be cooked by the server at table side and the service used to be exceptionally good. I remember the three times I visited pre COVID when the server would refill our condiments faster than we realize we finished them. The price was always on the expensive side but I thought it was fair compare with the good quality meat and the service. Everything was a massive disappointment today. The 2 of us sat down and ordered the pork combo recommended for 3-4 people($88). We were very surprised when they served us the meat that is already cooked. They took away the best part of KBBQ which is to enjoy the meat at your own pace and get to eat everything at the freshest state. The worst part is that the already disappointed meat was the highlight of the night. Everything else that came with the combo was mediocre to poorly done. We had the same impression with many other reviewers, soup was cold/ fried rice way too oily/ the noodle is a nightmare. Only 3 condiments provided: potatoes, pickled radish, and fermented radish ( seriously 2 radish dish and not even kimchi?). Side note, we asked if the garlic or the lettuce could be refilled and server said no to both. This is the first time I sat in a Korean BBQ restaurant that doesn’t even offer free garlic refills. Overall, the food isn’t terrible but it did hit me hard due to the high expectations I had from before. Sorry, we prob won’t be back unless the level of food and service is restored. P.S funny side note, when we arrived at the restaurant I didn’t see any of the existing 5 tables order the BBQ and I thought that was very weird. Now I know why.

Got their pork collar kBBQ to go and it was packed awesome. It's literally like the closest thing to a kBBQ dinner experience a take out version can provide. Radish and lettuce wraps with side dishes and sauces too were all fresh and delicious tasting. Only wish it came with rice. Other than that this is seriously good take out restaurant food. Check out my pics to see what I mean..

A buddy and I went to have dinner here on a Saturday evening because it was the only restaurant with a short wait time around the area. Turns out, it was alright. Waiters were super friendly. Only issue was that the serving size of the meat was smaller than I’d like.
