Place is great! Should try number 19 with extra quail eggs and size of the bowl is worth the price. Service is okay and big amounts of noodles and side orders. I recommend this place!
Came to Pho Lan for dinner with P and J, in the quest for large amounts of Vietnamese food. Pho is one of my favourite foods. This place was pretty dark and dingy, so I couldn’t really tell how clean everything was, but the pho was great. Not too salty, came with lots of toppings, and a large pile of noodles. I finished the XL bowl by myself! Achievement unlocked. I didn’t care too much for the spring rolls here, tasted like it was refried, but maybe if I weren’t so full from the noodles I would’ve liked it more.
We have heard and read many great things about Pho Lan’s spring rolls, so we ventured out to Richmond and gave it a try. We were quickly seated even though it was super busy, we ordered the spring rolls and two bowls of noodles with your classic cuts of meat. As many have said already, spring rolls are delicious, super crunchy and full of flavour. As good as they were, we enjoyed the broth just as much. The broth is delicious, it's very clear compared to most Pho joints, and does not taste like it's full of MSG. The meat and noodles were pretty standard, but it's the broth that makes the pho here amazing.
If you haven't been already, order a bowl of noodles and the spring rolls, you won't regret it. Prices are fair and service is fine. We would recommend!
Grunginess can be attracting sometimes. It's a fairly old and low-class restaurant, yet it somehow reminds me of authentic Vietnam. Thus, I enjoy meals here at Pho Lan - not because of their "ambience," but primarily their good food and quick service. Food consistently becomes comfort food here and the effort always becomes appreciable here.
Pictures taken with my iPhone 5. Pho Lan is a little dim inside, so the quality of the pictures are pretty bad. I love pho! Cho hates it. Love the raw beef slice with beef flank slice noodle! It's always my favorite combination! I ordered a small. There's one that's X-large, but then I know I can't finish it. If only Cho is here, then I would order the X-large. Love eating huge food...even though I can never finish it. My friend used to order the X-large noodle and the bowl is like a little sink....crazy.
Easily my favourite traditional pho restaurant. Family owned and operated, it is truly the closest place to Vietnam. Their traditional vietnamese spring rolls with veggie options; everything else on their menu is to die for whether you are returning or a new comer. I suggest trying their lemongrass dishes and their specialty #7. Big portions for the big appetites! Although the ambience may not seem like the most sanitary, it sure is a hole-in-the-wall joint!
Been here serious times..like here...delicious
Best chicken soup. I love their chicken soup. The quail eggs are perfectly cooked. Lots of nice white meat chicken pieces. Nice crispy spring roles. Not the cheapest or cleanest but very tasty
Nice pho in Richmond. Always come here whenever I am craving for pho in Richmond. Tasty noodles and soup, I can always finish my extra large bowl of pho. It might get noisy if you come around 4pm coz you can hear their staff speaking their own language from kitchen to entrance, if you don't mind it then I suggest you come and try.
Huge portions, reasonable prices. Cash only restaurant is a bit of an inconvenience but worth it. Spring rolls are fantastic!
Cash only. Good pho, try #7 for a good mix of toppings. Large bowl is HUGE.
Portions getting smaller.. I use to LOVE This place because of their big portions.. the meat balls use to be like a pool ball size...hard to believe. But now they cut it up into 10 pieces and give you much less of everything. Overall it still taste good and the service is average.
I love it as my first choice of Vietnamese restaurants but service and a waitress is very rude and smirks and gets annoyed and pissed off at us
I don't review much but am considered to be a major foodie!! Pho Lan has been a favourite of my wife and I for over 14 years! Back then, we weren't married but what remains the same is their consistent quality and unbeatable prices, which haven't increased much over time. I love the combo B priced at $10 with vermicelli, 6 big BBQ'd pork balls, a prawn salad roll and super crispy spring roll. Their spring rolls are the best and trust me, I've eaten at many Pho restaurants. Soups are great, especially their Bun Bo Hue! It's big and the soup/broth is absolutely one of the best I've tasted. What can I say, I love Pho Lan!
Consistent pho. Always had a good time eating here. Nevermind the cleanliness, it's the theme!
Great place for late night pho! It is tiny, but they have friendly staff and quick service. The best vegetarian spring rolls EVER!! Totally recommend this place even if you stop in for the spring rolls!! :)
Can't wait until the next time. Checked this place out as I was staying nearby and it had decent reviews. I would have to agree with many of the other reviewers, it is great value for the money. The pho was fantastic, and the service was friendly. Can't wait to tuck into another bowl of #21!
In Richmond. This is the place I go for pho. It's better than most I have been to when I don feel like going on kingsway. And the prices are cheap. But good.
When i don't feel like cooking.... The decor is not the best but i do only come here for the food. The prices are good and the selection is plentiful. I love bun bo hue and not all vietnamese places have it. Thats usually when you know if a place is really authentic, in my opinion. :)
but i do like my bean sprouts raw not parboiled thats the only bad thing
Best Pho in Richmond. Pho Lan is definitely the best place for pho in Richmond and it's probably up there on the list for the best pho in Vancouver. It's basically a hole in a wall kind of restaurant, nothing fancy. I love their spring rolls, one of the best I have tasted!
What The Pho. This is one of my fave places in Richmond. Have been dining here since my son was young teenager. Now he goes with his pals. NOT the best ambiance and can get very busy around lunch-time.
My choice is the #7 spicy and they have good spring rolls and salad rolls. Check out the PHOnomenon!
Chicken is also good!. Pho Lan provides a large variety of phos.
Although they are famous for their beef noodles, I also recommend #19 Special Chicken Meat, Chicken Meatballs, and Quail Egg noodles.
Apart from noodles, Pho Lan has other steamed rice and vermicelli bowls on their menu. #23 BBQ Lemon Grass Chicken on Steamed Rice is also highly recommended as well :)
Best in Richmond. This place has the best beef noodle soup in Richmond. They also have more authentic dishes available on the menu then other restaurants. Great food at good prices.
Yum i love this place :) its my favourite pho restaurant!!
I really enjoy eating here. The food is very good and the place is clean. Try the #7 spicy. Also, the owner, Lan, is usually there. He is a great guy and will help you order.
Pho Lan is a Vietnamese restaurant located in Richmond directly across from city hall. I’ve passed by it many times and never thought much of it. After finding out about their spring rolls, I had to try it!! Ever since then… Pho Lan has been one of my favourite pho places in the Lower Mainland. They’re also known for their menu item “Have a Nice Day” for $1.50. There is a man who walks around this joint that pokes fun at the regulars. He seems to be very observant of his customers and I am not sure if he already recognizes Sleepy and me. He used to always question me when I ordered a Large pho saying, “do you know how big that is” and I would answer with a confident, “yes I am well aware”. On one occasion I think I may have noticed him watching to see if I managed to finish it. To no disappoint I did… but I think those days of the large pho are over.
These spring rolls are so crispy and so crunchy. Time and time again, they are perfectly done. These are the best spring rolls, ever, period.
We will be back pho sho! It has officially usurped our former favorite Richmond Pho place from the top spot to become our favorite Pho place in Richmond. Bon appetite!
Why is it that some of the best food often come from hole-in-the-wall places? Pho Lan is no exception. The backdoor entrance reminds me of a scene from the movie Bridesmaids where the girls were taken to a backdoor Brazilian restaurant. It was somewhat intimidating. Like most hole in the wall places, there should be no expectation for ambience or friendly customer service. For a quick meal, good food, and low prices, those 2 are not on the top of my list here. Be grateful that your meal arrives in a timely manner, and that they bring you whatever you ask for. Back entrance Front entrance My favourite dish here, deep fried spring rolls for $2.50 each. For twice the average price, they are also double in size . The wrap is made with rice paper, the same on on the salad roll so it is more crispy with a chewy taste. The filling is stuffed with seasoned ground pork, carrots, mushrooms, and glass noodles. Yummm... Their spring roll is a must try. Two more of my vietnamese staples; vermicelli
There’s only one place I go for pho in Richmond, Pho Lan. And the reason is simple, good food. This place is pretty awesome, almost every time I walked it, I’d get seated right away, but that maybe got to do with the time I go. I usually go around 8pm, an
If you love Pho and want to visit one of the best spots in Richmond, it's at Pho Lan. Here's why locals and others make the trek to this hole-in-the wall restaurant, it's because...
That’s right. I’m finally home for the holidays, so one of the first things I did after getting off the plane was to meet up for some glorious Dot Com Pho. Unfortunately, the perfect storm made for a bit of a trade-off in terms of attendance. I’m back, bu
Gotta try their rice paper wrapped fried spring roll here! Unique from other places in that it's extra crispy on the outside and meaty, juicy, and savory on the inside.
Delicious Pho too! They also serve steamed Vietnamese crepes here which remind me of rice crepes wrapping meat at dim sum but they are Vietnamese style here and also have meat stuffing and are chewy and squishy yumminess.
I also like their three bean ice dessert with green jello and coconut. It's not only pretty to look at but also sweet, light, and refreshing.
Great local Vietnamese Restaurant.
Been coming here for almost 20 years. Cannot reiterate enough just how good their springs rolls are. Impossibly crisp (literally, what is their secret!?). Flavourful filling. Yes they’re slightly greasy, but what else would you expect? Better than the ones I tried in Vietnam which were supposed to be the best in Hanoi.
Oh and their pho is great too. Big portions for a fair price. But them spring rolls tho.
I have been looking for authentic deep fried Vietnamese spring roll, like not just crispy but also sticky. This restaurant definitely has the food I want!
My boyfriend brought me there and he told me that this restaurant has been there since he was still in high school, which was like over 20 years ago.. lol He hasn't been there for quite a while since he no longer lived in Richmond. He told me that there must be a reason why the restaurant is still running and I can prove that it's really true!
First, we ordered a large size of pho with rare beef and tendon, and also 2 orders of deep fried spring roll. For pho, we specifically asked for the beef on the side because we wanted to see how fresh the beef was. Satisfactorily, the beef was freshly red and that is good enough for us to go back in the near future again! The broth was really delicious and not much MSG (at least we were not so thirty after we finished it).
Second, the deep fried spring roll was EXACTLY what I want!! It was really hot so I believed that they deep fried it once we ordered. It was not only crispy but also sticky, and this is how a Vietnamese spring roll should be. I couldn't even stop eating that and I even wanted to order more.. haha!
The prices were really reasonable. Even though the interior decoration is old-fashion style with no fancy design, but the food is totally satisfying, we will undoubtedly go back again!
Food was very good and good service as well. Great portion and price for the food. Excpet for spring rolls, seems overpriced.
The inside of the restaurant looks much better than the outside, they should look into that.
Dec 2021
Low key, homely type place. Had the #7 beef noodle soup which had about 5 different types of meat and got the extra large bowl since it was only a few dollars more than the small and medium bowls, and it was certainly extra large.
Also got the deep fried spring roll and it was certainly deep fried and also larger than I expected! The soup and spring rolls tasted great.
Overall very good tasting food with big portions at a good price point, which you don't see all the time anymore
The pho is really good but the restaurant futniture is dated... Will defunatrly back for thr pho...
I’ve heard many good things from friends and read a lot of positive reviews about this place but never been here as it is really out of my way.
Give you a sense of how far out of my way it is.
This is 16km away from me, my usual spot when wanting to eat Vietnamese food is 3km away.
Driving back from Tsawwassen Mills and passing through Richmond, I thought I should give this place a try.
Came here for dinner around 6pm.
Parked in the back of restaurant, easy enough.
Came in from the back and went to the dining area, encountered the hostess and she lead us to an available table.
Me and my daughter ordered the Lemongrass chicken on rice dish.
Wasn’t a very long wait at all when our food arrived at our table.
Looked good, nice size portions of chicken, a generous size portion of rice and some side of veggies.
The flavour of the chicken was really good comparing to where I normally go so I said to myself, I would come back to try the pho the next time.
The following week I decided to make the trek out here to try the pho.
Ordered the extra large size and that is what I got. Wow!
Some places you order the large size and they give you the big bowl with lots of soup but the same amount of noodle as a medium and after finishing it you still are hungry, not this place, the extra large is of epic proportions.
I found myself having to force myself to finish this, in a good way though. I was very full after eating this. Great portion, great flavour.
Staff is very friendly, safety measures are in full practice.
I’ve gone back again. Total of 3 times in the past 3 weeks. Don’t mind making the drive when the food taste this good, portions are very generous for what you are paying and the staff is very nice.
A lot of businesses are hurting due to Covid and I would like to see this place thrive so I can highly recommend this place like all the other positive reviews before me has.
This will be my go to place when I want to eat Vietnamese food from now on.
My husband and I have gotten take out a couple times from here and both times it's been stellar! The portions are generous and the food is delicious! Some of the best spring rolls I've ever had!
