Review L.a. Chicken - Richmond

Ronald B
Amazing chicken!!! We got the Meal 5. So damn good! The prices have increased a bit so here are the prices from the pics I took. It gets busy quick so either go off hours like 2pm or right when they open.

Ordered from here for my Daughters birthday party. Located only a few minutes from the party. Order was ready in only 7 minutes. We ordered 30 pcs of chicken, 2 large fries, gravy, and 3 salads. The chicken was delicious. Really crispy and it was so moist and tender. Was not overly salty. Everyone at the party kept saying how good it was and asked where we got it. Love supporting local businesses and when I first googled the place I thought it was a huge franchise business. But when I went in and talked to a customer found out that is wasn’t . The fries were hot and fresh. Did not taste like it was stale or was left out. Really impressed on how fast they put the order together. The salads of course are pre packaged and ready to go. But the chicken and the fries seemed to be cooked fresh. Easily one of the best fried chicken places I’ve been too.

I ordered the combination for two: 3 legs, 3 thighs , medium fries and a gray. The fried chickens are crispy and juicy. The spiciness is just good. The french fries need some salt but is good to eat with gravy .

Best fried chicken in town. The chicken is huge, juicy, skin is so crispy. I keep coming back every time I drive to Richmond

Best fried chicken in Vancouver!!!!! We got a 8pc meal to share, and every piece was tender, flavourful and just delicious. The gravy? Wow. Came here wondering how good can fried chicken get, but damn, so good!!!!! You have to try it!!!!
David Manzi
As someone who very much enjoys fried chicken, l I found this place mediocre. It wasn't dried out inside, but I wouldn't call it juicy. We got a combination of the regular and spicy, I didn't find a large difference between the two. It wasn't terribly under-seasoned or over seasoned, just nothing really stood out.

Like many others - I was a bit skeptical at first but loved it ;) - one feedback I got is that the spicy version had barely any heat but other than that all good !!

Some of the best fried chicken you can get in richmond. Nice and crisp, and not overly salty. I have a little issue with the price however. If 10 pieces is $26, and 20 pieces is $46, why did I pay $46 twice for 40 pieces? Shouldn't there be a little bit of a discount on top of that?
Jessica Tang
I am utterly disappointed and mad about their Family Sized Coleslaw salad. They don't disclose how small the size is for the salad.

I paid $7.99 for a coleslaw that was advertised as Family Size, and the container is at most a small by restaurant standard. The two forks they gave suggested their idea of "Family Sized" meant two people. (Guess their idea of family means no kids...so strange and different than other places eh?)

I talked to the staff and it was a flat "no we can't do anything about it". He did not even hear what I said because he interrupted me mid sentence.

Eight bucks for a single serving of coleslaw. Wow. And it's not even coleslaw. It was a garden salad mix that you can get a large bag for $2.99 at Safeway.

I Tried l.a. chicken for dinner after work. The cashier was extremely rude and dont feel like to give us any ketchup. Just gave us 5 pkgs with different logo for 10 pcs of chicken. Look like they got it from somewhere else. Spicy chicken is not spicy, but so crispy. The original one, look smaller than spicy one, batter was so thin, not crispy as spicy one... 3 pcs were dried, 2 pcs were juicy and small. the chairs and washroom were extremely dirty.

The definition of a hole in the wall BUT the best Kentucky fried style chicken in Vancouver, if anyone tells you different, they're wrong.
Mrs Liu
This time I ate 4 pieces for early dinner.
This is my rating.
Tasty, hot & fresh.
People said that they will provide an extra one if the drumsticks size was really small. But it is not for my order even they were all small size. I am fine as the portion of pieces was almost big enough for two people.

I will come again. 👍🏻

Found this place by accident on the way home from Richmond. Some of the best spicy chicken I've had, and the price was right. Seems the word's gotten around cuz their parking lot is packed during meal times from people getting take out so it's not as convenient as it used to be.
Foodie Muggles
Ok Franky it's s not the best fried chicken we had ever had, it's not even in top 10. But Vancouver doesn't really have any good fried chicken places and compared to those places this has to be the best fried chicken we have had in Vancouver area so far. It was a decent fast food chicken. My only complaint is that we ordered spicy chicken and this had no heat whatsoever. I don't know if they gave us the wrong order or that was what they considered spicy. But anyways this place can satisfy craving for fried chicken
Thea Speicher
I really love this chicken. It has a good flavour, the coating isn’t too thick, it is crunchy and stays crispy! I have eaten it within a short time it was prepared and also several hours after it was prepared and it just stays so nice and crispy. How did they do it?
R.J
This is the absolute best place to get fried chicken. This is better than Church's, Popeye's or KFC, this is amazing. They have amazing deals all the time, you can get your chicken spicy or non-spicy but they always give huge pieces, the skin stays crispy and it's so tasty.
MommaSLeP
Best fried chicken in lower mainland! Served hot and fresh. Perfect amount of spices and choice of regular or spicy. We had the dinner for 4 and it was plenty! Good mix of white and dark meat. Gravy was perfect with a little peppery flavour, we really enjoyed it. Will definitely be back. Only short coming was not a lot of parking or tables inside. We took our chicken picnic with us across the street to King George park.

Pronounced “Elle Eh”, like Los Angeles, not “LA”, like “DO RE MI” or the French article... This chicken place is a hole in the wall that replaced a burnt down Dairy Queen a few years ago. I’ve had this chicken before, but mostly takeout at potluck dinner parties. This was my first time here!
Ben And Suanne
He was craving for fried chicken and he decided to go to LA Chicken which we had not been to for a very long time. Ben and Arkensen love the chicken as they ate it right away. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist inside. The above price was 12 pieces of chicken. Credit card is accepted here. Ben said the restaurant was very busy when he was there. He waited for 30 minutes for his order.

We’re very curious and excited to try the “best” fried chicken in Metro Vancouver as they say and we’re very disappointed. The breading tastes good but not the actual chicken meat inside. Gravy tastes bland. The chicken place is very busy so you need to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes. Very expensive for a fried chicken. Not worth it to try. Church’s is still my favorite.
Carmen Huang
Definitely one of the best fried chicken places I've had in all of my life. It actually puts KFC to shame and after eating here, I can never go to KFC for fried chicken again. It's also a pretty good step up from churches chicken as well. Really good!

A trip to Richmond to finally try LA chicken .A very small place with only 3 small tables. We decided to share a 4 piece meall that came with coleslaw, fries and gravy. No room to sit so we ate in our car across the street at the park.We had half spicy and half normal. The fries were average but good flavour and an excellent vehicle for the thick peppery gravy. I really loved this chicken. I think even a bit better than Churches. Rainbowcrab says she loved it but likes the spicier flavour and crunch of Churches. We will go back for sure.
B & E
Love everything about their chicken, from the flavour to the crunchiness of the skin - definitely worth a try and coming back. Absolutely one of our comfort food choices when it comes to fried chicken!

See you again soon!

Some people say this place has the best fried chicken in the area, so I had to try it out. We arrived at 11 AM on Canada Day to find out it wasn’t open until 11:30. At opening, it became crowded quite quickly with people waiting to order take out. There were three of us, so I decided to go with the six piece combo/deal which comes with three drumsticks, three legs, fries, and gravy for $20.
Papabeur
The chicken has no taste. Fries were soggy. Expensive chicken. Owner looks like he's highaf. Church's Chicken is Number 1. Use phone coupon 5.75 for 3 piece plus fries.
Esdub
Really good fried chicken in Richmond. Definitely a hole in the wall gem. I always get the spicy, not the regular. He batter has more flavor that way. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside.
Viraj Abeysekera
Above-average fried chicken joint in Richmond. All my experiences eating out here have been pleasant for sure. I just wish the "spicy" chicken was a taaad spicier. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing LA Chicken. This brown 👦 approves ✋
Danny Jose Do Couto
The owner looks like he's on coke every time I go and I'm sure some of that sh*t is in the chicken because I can't stop coming back!
This chicken is finger licken!
Make sure you get it spicy.
Maggi Mei
If you are like me, when you think fried chicken, either “KFC” or “Church’s” are the first that comes to mind. Well a handful of food bloggers in the know claim there is another rival in the battle for fried chicken supremacy, and its name is “L.A Chicken”. Given the glowing reviews and the glitzy name I expected so much more when I approached the restaurant. To the point that I actually checked the address on my phone and tried to compare the background from photos of their chicken on Instagram to their physical interior. This was the right place.
Goro
Consistently amazing fried chicken - get the spicy version! Fast friendly service, great prices. This place has ruined all other fried chicken places in Vancouver for me.
Jelizatin Eats
We had to come here based on the positive reviews. We ordered a three piece chicken combo (spicy) and the popcorn chicken. We found the food good, but not outstanding. The chicken was good (not greasy), unlike some fast food chains, however it was not spicy and just lacked flavour. We liked the popcorn chicken better, and the fries were basic.

Prices were fair, overall the food is okay, but we were expecting more.
FOODGRESSING.COM
If you make good fried chicken, people will come. And that is the case with L.A. Chicken, a casual fried chicken joint located in an unassuming Richmond strip mall. Recently, I visited L.A. Chicken with my family and two other friends one Saturday night for some fried chicken debauchery.
Angel Yang
Chicken is too salted. Too much MSG. My husband ate the chicken after half an hour, he felt headache. people only take care the food first bite.
Meaghanc8
“Is 30 pieces too many?”

Trick question - obviously not. But we opt for six instead - three regular, three spicy, fries, and gravy.

Chicken game is pretty strong here, fry game not so much. Fries are actually closer to bland chewy cardboard but nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
Frankie Ferrari
Chicken was excellent, fries were not, gravy was good, salad was meh... They charge for everything, forks, ketchup, etc etc...
Will be back
Pork_ninjas
Oh my word…L.A. Chicken where have you been hiding all my life? I think I am one of the last people trying this fried chicken joint for the first time! It was beyond eye opening, mind blowingly fantastic! It definitely kicks those fried chicken chains like KFC and Church’s Chicken out of the ballpark bigtime.
Helen Yu
Best fried chicken in town. Flavour and crunch was on point, but MAKE SURE you get the spicy crispy chicken! I would pass on the regular flavour - that one is average at most. Otherwise, awesome place!! Limited seating so get it to go. Parking is a drag, too.
Navid Shahram
This place is dope! They know what they're doing. I'm sorry but KFC and Churches can't be compared to L.A Chicken. Their fries on the other hand are below average. Every order is made fresh. Obviously get the spicy chicken. If you're going to purchase gravy, please do me a solid and dunk the drumstick all the way to the bottom. It's seriously worth the long term health issues.
Vancity Food Guy
I finally got to try L.A chicken with all the hype. Not much to say so I'll keep it simple.
The chicken is delicious. But it tasted like churches chicken lol. It looked and tasted like churches. It's almost like someone worked at churches and stole their recipe and modified it to their own. My girlfriend thought the same.

Would I come back for their chicken? Yes if I'm in the area. But I wouldn't rate it 5/5. It's just my personal opinion, not knocking anyone elses of course, I respect everyone's opinions.
Shemomedjamo.yvr
After dinner (yes.. i got this after dinner HAHA), my boyfriend and I made a pit stop at LA chicken because we were in the area. It was out first time here and the appearance of the place wasn't so great, i guess you could say it had that old school greasy fast food look. However, looks can be deceiving as they say.. and so we ordered some chicken and fries. Their chicken was very juicy and succulent and had a decent amount of seasoning too! As for the fries, they were fairly ordinary but definitely satisfied my usual fries craving. If you are on the hunt for some juicy and fresh chicken, I recommend this place.
Chris Boyd
Ordered the chicken here finally...grew up in Richmond and hadn't tried LA Chicken before...I was decently surprised. The chicken and the gravy were very good. The fries were just okay, nothing special. Good coleslaw.
The chicken is the real star here, as it should be. Juicy, crispy and perfectly spiced. Large pieces of chicken as well.
Better chicken than KFC and easily miles ahead of Churches.
Service could be friendlier, they are just to the point, no "fluff".

Yum Yum
Penny And Rusty
LA Chicken has to be the worst-kept-secret, hole-in-the-wall, fried-chicken place in the Lower Mainland.

Personally, I think they must sprinkle some unicorn dust on their fried chicken… how else can you explain how good it is? And the thick gravy? ‘Nuff said!

For some reason, however, they’ve never been able to take some of that magic and direct it to their fries. Well… the chicken is the real reason you come here… and they do that really well.

People always say LA chicken is very good and it is better than KFC and church chicken that I must try it.

Finally I got a chance to buy a few pieces and tried the LA chicken last weekend!!

When I got to LA Chicken, it was crowded inside. People ordered at the counter but some of their orders were very big such as 10, 15 or 20 pieces with combo. Literally all the customers had to wait for their orders. I waited for about 20 mins. Only one guy and one lady who worked at the restaurant during the dinner time were extremely busy serving so many customers and taking care of many orders. They had to take orders, fried the chicken, packed the orders and etc. at the same time. I think they should hire a part time person or get more people to help them out in the kitchen.

I asked for to go, so I could try the chicken and enjoyed it at home. The restaurant was too busy and the ambiance and environment were not very comfortable. The chicken was very juicy and had many flavours in the meat though. It tasted great!

However it was quite expensive that it cost almost $3 each. If I would come back here for the chicken, I must preorder on phone and ask for pick up, so I didn't have to wait there for 20 mins or so.
No atmosphere at all but the food was good. Good portions. Hot and fast. Take out probably best. Way better than Kentucky fried which I like. Heavy with pepper and they offer "spicy".
Lower Mainland Muncher
They are so popular they don't even pick up their phone during the weekend (or so it seems). The way they make their chicken sets them apart from Church's and KFC. It must be the extra oven time the chicken gets after being fried. Flavor is on point.
Simon
Hilariously close to Red Rooster, the other best-fried-chicken-in-Richmond contender, is LA Chicken. Looks more like KFC chicken. Super crispy skin. Eat it right away and it's sooo juicy. Like dripping wet juicy. Winner. Unless chickens have shrunk since the last time I had KFC, the size of the legs and thighs seemed... smallish.
Mytmouse
Best fried chicken in Richmond, and possibly the lower mainland. Small mom and pop run place. Nothing fancy but you won't be disappointed!!!
Stephanie Fung
There's no debate about why L.A. Chicken has such a good rating - the fried chicken is the bomb! It's crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Both coating and meat are well seasoned; I'm salivating just thinking about it. Most people seem to do take out but there are a few tables to eat in. The people who run the place are friendly and fast. The two times I've at L.A. Chicken, I've shared a two person combo which comes with 6 pieces (3 drumsticks and 3 thighs), fries, and gravy for a good price, which I can't remember anymore. You can buy some other sides like coleslaw and potato salad, but the focus is definitely on the chicken. I highly recommend it!
KG
Typical fried chicken joint done right. The chicken tastes fresh, good flavour, perfect crispness. The salads are tasty, macaroni is my personal favorite. Average fries but man, the gravy is awesome. I think it's fairly priced considering its gotta be the best fried chicken joint in Richmond. Good stuff.
KOOkiecream
• located along No.5 Rd (and Cambie Rd.)
• $6.93 (tax included) for 2 piece chicken (leg and thigh) $2 for a small gravy - I think it is overpriced
• the taste is actually good, better than Church's & KFC. It is meatier, tastier & not as oily as the others
• expensive for a small gravy but you'll know why (it tastes like KFC even better!)
Kelly Yee
I finally got to try L.A. chicken, the price for 3 piece chicken is a little higher at $8 compared to churches $5 deal combo that comes with fries. Over all the chicken was warm/hot, crispy and tasty. The original was kind of bland and not too great. They spicy was out of this world! Wasn't even that spicy but good. I would recommend only getting spicy. The chicken pieces are pretty big.
FoodLuv
This is a local chicken spot and the chicken is very juicy and crispy. The chicken pieces are huge and if you like spicy get the 'spicy version'.
Julie Chu
I do not know why it took me so long to venture out to Richmond to try L.A. Chicken. As a first timer here, I was quite shocked how rundown this place looked and in need of some renovation for sure. There are roughly around 5 small tables, another sign that it is mostly just a takeout joint. I was there during noon time where they had lunch combinations to choose from.
Fading Venus
Nothing special about the chicken here, I think it was better than the average KFC for sure but I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high but it is not a place I would come back for.
Thelastnoelle
TL; DR: best fried chicken in lower mainland. Good God, get over there NOW. Order the spicy crispy and skip the original recipe.

LA Chicken is too good. Their crispy spicy or spicy crispy recipe is incredible, never had anything like it. They have good prices for their combos which comes with fries and gravy and a pop.
You can also sub the fries for a macaroni or potato salad but since you're already there...go big or go home! Gravy isn't that delicious, fries are below average but there is a reason this place is called LA Chicken not LA Fries.

You will feel the usual "oh god why did I eat this unhealthy food" feeling after. However you will also feel like "oh god I only want to eat fried chicken forever" high while eating. Just block out the guilt and do an extra set at the gym!

The owners are very lovely people. Go often enough and be extra friendly and you might end up with a surprise extra chicken leg :P

Vannommers
The best fried chicken I'd had so far. The spicy thighs are super crispy and juicy, and hit with just a tiny bit of spice. Downsides include the far drive, inconvenient location and soggy fries (pretty disappointed with that). It might be step up from Church's, but it might not be worth the price or the drive.
Foodforthought
Best fried chicken I've had.
Fries however, are below average, so skip those.

I'd come here more often, but the wait times are unbearable, hence the lower rating. The place is understaffed.

Would recommend if you have an extra hour to spare waiting for food. Or if you can get your friends to pick it up.
ColoursOnWhite
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Price: Avg. $15/person
Return: Absolutely!!!

Besides, KFC and Church Chicken, LA Chicken is always the first choice in my mind. The deep fried chickens are so Crispy and Juicy! Personally, I would suggest if the LA Chicken could come up with some different sauces, like Honey Garlic, Salsa Sauce, and even Blue Cheese for dipping, it would be perfect. How does it sound to you?
WingHin T.
I don't get why some people crave fried chicken from KFC or other fast food chains when there's an L.A. Chicken in the city. The fried chicken, fries, and gravy here are my guilty pleasures and I admit to eating more than I really should be. The batter of the fried chicken is perfectly crunchy and the chicken itself is tender and juicy. I've had the fried chicken for dine in and take out and I can vouch that the neither the crunchiness/crispiness or flavour is sacrificed if not eaten fresh. For that reason, although LA Chicken is located not very conveniently, you can still opt to order chicken for take out. I also think that the fries are quite good -they're thinner and salted well (I prefer my fries salted). I recommend dipping them in the gravy instead of the ketchup because anything savory with gravy is better. It may all come for a higher price than your regular KFC chicken but for the quality and mouth watering goodnes you're getting, it's worth it.

Fries, salads, and service were awful, and i still wouldn't go anywhere else for chicken!! Best chicken ever :-) This place would be unstoppable with another employee and some fresh fries!
Black
The long wait. I've been to LA Chicken on 2 separate occasions and each time the staff was nice and the chicken was great. However, the amount of time I've spent waiting was just not worth the food that I received. It's understandable that a small family restaurant can't match the speed of your fast food joints but on both occasions, I waited over 50 minutes for take out chicken. I thought it was an one time occurrence the first time I went which is why I gave this place a second choice. However, the wait on the second occasion was even worse than the first (an hour and 20 minutes!) and that has unfortunately cemented LA Chicken on the list of places I will not visit again.
Penny And Rusty
Ever since our first visit to LA Chicken in Richmond, I’ve been looking for an excuse to come back to this little hole-in-the-wall.

This time around, we went with the 10 piece leg and thighs with half regular/half spicy (as well as regular fries and medium gravy).

Update: June 1, 2015
Check out our updated post on pennyandrusty.wordpress.com where we try their half and half (half spicy and half regular)
Picky Diner
I have to say, the spicy and crispy chicken was the best Southern style fried chicken that I had ever had – perfect amount of batter and crispiness on the skin, perfect amount of moist tenderness on the meat, and perfect amount of spiciness along with a ton of flavours even down to the bones. The original recipe was good too but tasted slightly underwhelming comparing to its spicy upgrade. The fries were pretty mediocre but they were delicious dipped in the magical gravy. I also liked the coleslaw, but wish it were a bit bigger and had made me feel less guilty after this artery clogging dinner.
Food Queen
The fried chicken here is what my idea of perfect fried chicken is. The skin was super crispy while the meat on the inside was moist and tender. It was just greasy enough to satisfy your fried chicken cravings, but not overly greasy like KFC. I really enjoyed both the regular and the spicy, so I would recommend getting half and half in order to try both. The spicy isn’t overly spicy, but adds a lot of flavour. The fries here are okay, but nothing memorable or out of the ordinary. I would have preferred them to be a bit more crisp. Final Thoughts? LA Chicken has the best fried chicken in Metro Vancouver. Excellent chicken. Probably the best fried chicken in town. Much better than churches and KFC. Its the place my friends and I go to when we can't decide what to eat. Never disappoints.
Gakchat
A good chicken takes its time.... If you can't get there early, you have a bit of a wait ahead of you. Seems they only make one order at a time. We arrived just before lunch and were able to get our order in, but as soon as 12:00 rolled around, people started filling up the joint, with exponentially longer wait times. That said, you can order regular or crispy, either way, the chicken is tender and very juicy... I suspect they brine their chickens as it teeters over to the salty side. Cole slaw was fresh and crunchy, and the combo also came with gravy and a drink.

Service was pleasant, and the owner gave out extra chocolates to the customers. Don't know if it was a special occasion... but hey, FREE CHOCOLATE!

The place itself, is very basic/no frills, but if you just want to sit and eat... it'll do.

All in all, good chicken, maybe not worth driving across town for, but if you're in the area, give Church's and KFC a miss, and try it out...
Vice
Really good chicken. Ordered the special 4 piece meal for lunch. Wasn't very busy so I was able to sit and enjoy my meal. Gravy was included, and went nicely with my fries. The chicken was very, very good -- nice and crunchy with a hint of spice. I'm salivating as I type out this review. I will definitely come back here for more chicken.
Hakan
Excellant fried chicken and fries! Probably better to just take-out!
Maria_g888
Long wait and don't answer phone for takeout orders. Their chicken is good, but the place is very small. So most people order take out. The problem is, they don't answer their phone for pick up orders, and when you go there to order for takeout, you'll be waiting for at least 20 minutes for your order.

My dad once asked the owner about their phone line, and she just ignored his question and shrugged her shoulders. The service and ordering process could definitely be better!!

Best Chicken in Lower Mainland!. This fried chicken reminds me of how KFC tasted like in my childhood! The outer crust is cripsy + well seasoned and the meat is juicy! You can choose between Spicy and Original and both are super yummy!

Definitely worth a try, if you haven't! They sell their fried chickens cheaper than Church's as well!
Girllovesfood
Go for the chicken. Best chicken, WORST fries.
Monicachen23
Tasty chicken!. Friday afternoon went there with some line ups. Waiting time is reasonable and service is good.
Bim
Terrible customer service. Bad customer rules regarding ordering line up. The more pieces of chicken you, you are the priority to get your order first. Not a first come per serve basis. Rediculous.
Earnest
Writing while waiting. I was OK with the initial 25 minutes; walked around, then came back. It's now another 25 minutes, and I'm still waiting.

There was some excuse about earlier orders, but really - not. Others complaining now too.

Chicken wasn't bad last time I tried, but really, I didn't have to wait because someone else bought it! Don't know how they did it.

It's probably not worth it if you don't want to waste your time.
Mich Jaromamay
Terrible customer service!!!. I tried their chicken one time so for Mother's day I wanted to eat as a treat but then it was a big disappointment. I called in to pre-order at 5:20pm and was told that it will be ready in 20 mins. Drove and arrived half an hour later, paid and 15 minutes later....the customers who ordered after us already got their orders and we still haven't. When I asked the lady owner she said that those customers pre-ordered last week and yesterday. What kind of excuse was that to tell your customer? Then another 15 minutes has past and still nothing so I took back what I paid and ended up wasting my one hour on them!!!! Just a suggestion, learn how to prioritize the sequence of orders. Your restaurant does require a huge improvement on customer service!
Mahdi
Very good food but i suggest to go for a take out... not a good place to stay and eat...
FoodinYVR
Excellent fast food service. I would like to go back and get the chicken only, not the combo. My fries were not hot and they probably sat for a while already. Crispy chicken skin with wet (not moist) chicken meat! And it wasn't oil. So nothing to complain about.
The owner also pack every single take out with utensils and napkins, and he brought it to the customers one by one. What kind of service is that!
Louish05
Yummy. We have been eating here for years and it has to be the best damn deep fried chicken in the whole lower mainland from their regular to their spicy chicken. And the price is well within what it should cost. I ran into someone who said that the cooks from our local Casino all praise the chicken as being the best they have eaten. Well worth the eats, don't ever leave you two. lou
Hungry Man
Good Ass Chicken. They make some good ass fried chicken.
Nuinui The Cat
Love the chicken, but horrified by their bathroom. Don't even want to imagine what the kitchen would look like......
WilyAtVancouver
Terrible Service!!! Will never buy from them again. Pre-ordered 20 piece chicken for a birthday party beforehand, pick up time 12:15pm. Went there at 12:15pm and paid, asked me to wait for 10 minutes. 10 minutes went back, not ready. The lady said other customers ordered earlier than me, they couldn't handle all the orders. No apology just blame on other customers causing them too busy. Wait for another 20 minutes, still not ready. Finally reimbursed and left the place with no chicken. Never can count on them for pick up. Will never buy from them.

Upset customer
Alex
Crispy chicken with just right amount of spicy in it. This is the crispest chicken u can ever find. Great quality meat and fresh made to order. It's best to order ahead of time if u r ordering more than 10 or u will be waiting for a while. Give it a try. U will not regret.
Ckyaker
Way better than Church's. Until now, my wife and I always enjoyed Church's fried chicken because it was freshly cooked and not like KFC... but LA Chicken is so fresh and lightly done that we now drive from Burnaby to get to this one and only secret delight in Richmond... but best to phone your order in as it can be quite a wait when line-ups get out the door...
Rain
One of a kind!. Don't be deceived by the outside appearance of this restaurant. It has one of the best fried chickens I've ever tasted in Vancouver! You can choose the original breading (comparable to KFC) or the crispy and spicy breading (comparable to Church's). I got to try both, and they were both so delicious!

The chicken skin is so crispy and fresh. It tastes really good. I had my chicken with fries and gravy, and although the fries didn't really taste like anything, I was still very satisfied with my meal. It's a must must must-try!

If you're Filipino, L.A. Best Fried Chicken in Town!. Been to this place many many times and it never disappoint! (unlike KFC and Churches) Their spicy flavor has the perfect amount of heat. Their gravy is a must if you are to eat the fries! And of course, their chicken is always juicy and hot! Great prices, service, and food!

MMMMMmmmmm.... After reading all the reviews, I've decided to give this place a try. I've lived in richmond my whole life and drove by this place hundreds of times....Doesn't look too appealing from the outside. But like everybody says, its soooo good. Good prices. 2pc chicken, fries, gravy and potato/macaroni salad for $9. I'll definatly be back.

Delicious Fried Chicken. Came here for lunch and I guess I forgot this place is busy due to them cooking the fried chicken on order so there were quite a bit of people waiting.

I waited a good 30 minutes till I got my 10 piece spicy crispy fried chicken order and it was worth the wait, definitely much better than KFC though the skin is different from Church's though.

Kind of expensive for what it is. But its so good.

I have never written a blog post for ANY previous restaurants I have visited, but I just had to let all people's know how amazing LA Chicken is ..

This is not something you cannot compare to KFC, nor Church's Chicken - def blows any sort of fried chicken I've ever had, out of the water.

It's not greasy what so ever, juicy and very flavorful, and the perfect amount of spice 'n crispy-ness! I have absolutely zero complaints with this chicken and plan on traveling from downtown Vancouver for this, as much as possible! Well worth the trip. Guaranteed.

Thank god for my high metabolism! Hehe

Love it. I used to frequent this restaurant for lunch regularly over 10 years ago when I worked nearby. I've since moved on and realized what I've been missing. I live 2 blocks away from a Church's and within a mile from a KFC, but would gladly drive from Vancouver to Richmond for this chicken anyday over the other 2. Kind service and freshly made to order, I can't get enough of the crispy spicy chicken that I missed many years ago. I don't know why I ever stopped going there but am glad to know they are still at the same location and offer the same taste and quality I remember.

DELICIOUSSSS!!! The best fried chicken in B.C. Period!!! Hands down, no contest, they are the champions!!! Try the spicy chicken for sure. The decor is out of a 80s grandma's living room, pepto bismal pink with cracked and peeling floral wallpaper but the chicken is Amazing!!! Who knew Asians could cook with Soul and the heart of a Black Grandmother from the south.

Great 11 years. Been a loyal customer for LA chicken since 2000! Place is awesome, great service with decent price.

Love it!

30 minute door to door but so worth it!. Yes I would trek through the snow and rain and hail and what not for 30 minutes to L.A. Chicken for fried chicken and gravy (fries not so much here) cuz they beat KFC, Church's hands down bar none.
HUNGER
When the craving for fried chicken hits, there’s usually two places people have in mind: Church’s Chicken or KFC. I’m no different, I have my preferences and I’ll admit I love to hit the Church’s. I have one near my house and it’s near my gym so its ‘conveniently’ on the way home. When my friend told me that there’s a place in Richmond, where the skin is crispier, the gravy flows in waterfalls, and the chicken so moist you’ll want to take a shower after eating it, my interest was piqued. We had to go. This place is called L.A. Chicken. LA Chicken is a bit of a hidden gem (although not so hidden anymore, its quite popular). Just past Cambie on Thorpe Road and No.5 across the street from King George Park is a small strip mall. Parking is a bit rough and it can be tight during meal hours. There’s a few other restaurants in the area so this kind of compounds the problem. Then again, this is a problem I associate with all of Richmond. Passing by this place, it’s easy to pass it up. It looks

I. AM. DROOLING! I’ve actually been putting off on writing about LA Chicken because I am not sure how I can describe the awesomeness of this mom-and-pop chicken joint. Just the thought of LA Chicken makes me hungry, even after I’ve eaten. I don’t usually like to hype up places because it ruins the food for me in the end, but I had walked into here with really high expectations at my first visit. Where in the world is there a fried chicken place that is 96% rated on urbanspoon by 400+ people? It HAS to be amazing if the rating is true! And ever since I went… I was converted to an LA Chicken lover. No place can compare to it. It is actually like KFC and Churches came together and made this heavenly chicken joint. First thing’s first, do not be taken aback by its appearance. It is a little dated and could use a facelift, and the tables are really limited for eating in. Also.. avoid the washroom. Otherwise, the kind couple/owners are pretty awesome and accommodating. Expect a long wait if you make a big order; the first time I went I ordered a 9 piece family pack and had to wait around 20 minutes. They make their chicken fresh to order. Second… another rule of LA Chicken is to always order spicy. It isn’t actually spicy, but it is deliciously seasoned. The non-spicy is not too bad… but spicy is where you get that “KFC-Churches” experience. Sleepy and I split a 4-Piece Combo . This comes with a drink, your choice of fries or rice, and a side of gravy. We added an extra side order of Rice ($2.99) since we couldn’t decide between the two. This combo was just right for the two of us. We got the chicken all spicy, and they were kind enough to split the chicken pieces for us! Be careful, it is hot so don’t be too excited just yet! The chicken is so crispy and seasoned. There is no part of the chicken skin that is soggy. The meat inside is always moist and juicy. The last rule of LA chicken is ALWAYS GET THE GRAVY. Never leave without it.

So this little chicken joint is tucked away in Richmond. It came onto my radar a few months back, and my friend and I decided to go and check it out. It is a small and unassuming place that pumps out fantastic fried chicken. Since it is not a Church’s or a KFC with oversized deep fryers and chicken that’s been standing around for who knows how long, the chicken is fried to order.

Once in a while you come across a restaurant that is run down and grungely looking and wonder to yourself, “why would anyone want to eat there”? Maybe cause they have kick-ass fried chicken! L.A. Chicken doesn’t look too appealing from the inside or the outside, but it’s the food that counts right? The Food Upon arrival, I promptly ordered one of their lunch combos – 4 pieces of fried chicken with fries, gravy and a drink. The combo was $12.99 and I would say the price is at-par with the fast food fried chicken places. With the chicken – you have the choice between regular and crispy, which is also spicy. A friend who was here the week before mentioned that the regular isn’t that good and crispy is the way to go. I listened to her advice and went with the crispy. And I was not disappointed. (The portion looks small, but this was a 4 piece order that they were kind enough to split to two portions for us) The chicken was very juicy and flavorful. There was definitely some spice to it but was not overwhelming – it meshed very well with the chicken. They always provided an even split between thigh and drumstick and both pieces had plenty of meat to it. Sara and I shared the 4 piece combo and we both left satisfied. I should also add that the gravy was very good. Had good flavor, was not too watery and the portion was just right. The fries are “meh”. They didn’t even bother salting the fries. But hey, with the fried chicken and gravy as good as it was you can forgive the mediocre fries. The Bottom Line The best fried chicken I have had in my life. If there is a place you think that is worthy of that title, please leave a comment and we will visit the place (and pleas don’t say KFC or Church’s). L.A. Chicken has great tasting fried chicken and pretty reasonable prices. Their meals come pretty well stacked with sides and a drink. L.A. Chicken is not the prettiest restaurant around, but the food is good. Prepare to wait a bit because this is not a fast food joint. Once in a

These folks know what they are doing. The flavor is just about perfect but strangely (although in light of things I guess it’s not so surprising) not really spicy like advertised. Hot and spicy fried chicken is all good but nicely seasoned, balanced bird is the best and that is what we have here.

For $8, you get a drumstick, a thigh and a side (can get macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, or rice). Starting with the fries, as usual, I found them to be nice and hot, though they were pretty bland..and had the consistency of the frozen variety but whatever I guess. It came with this cup of gravy that looked a LOT like the kind you get at KFC but dayum, it had quite the kick to it! (me thinks the cracked pepper did the trick there). The batter of the chicken was very homestyle and crunchy (super tasty!), though I found the meat inside, itself, to be very bland, albeit juicy. Fried chicken is probably lost on me because I generally tend to just rip the skin off and e

I never thought there are fast food fried chicken that isn't a chain store. Came across this LA chicken. People kept on saying it's good, so I might as well give it a try. It's really crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I hate fried chicken with loads of batter on it. This one only has this thinly battered crispy outside~ As we ate in, it was served right after it's fried. You can never get delivered fried chicken that taste this good~. Chi.

Truthfully, the place looked unclean and sketchy. It looked run down and old. I felt uncomfortable sitting there for my takeout fried chicken. But if you get past that it’s okay. I would give the ambiance a 2/5.
Constant Cravings
There was a family special for 8 pieces of chicken (mix of breast and thigh) with medium fries and gravy and 2 drinks. All for $23. Sounds like a deal to me! You can choose to get a mix of spicy chicken and regular chicken. This was the Spicy Chicken and the batter looks different than the regular batter. It was more crispy? It had a very mild spicy flavour. If you didn’t tell me it was spicy I might not be able to tell. This was the Regular Chicken. I like the regular batter more since it felt like it had more flavour or seasoning? The chicken was moist and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was so good!!! The fries on the other hand were pretty average…

Michael and I really like L.A. Chicken. I for one am really keen on returning the next time I want a good chicken fix. Michael is open to coming back as well, for paying a only a few more dollars then the average fast food place, we get tastier and better chicken.

When I first walked in, my impression was “omg… this looks even sketchier inside than out…” ... If you live in Richmond, or are there on a regular basis, I would definitely check it out. Don’t let the outside and the decorations scare you. They have awesome fried chicken. I found it better than Church’s and miles better than KFC.
Every Day Is A Food Day
We got the Dinner Combo for 2, which includes 6 pieces of fried chicken, a medium order of fries and gravy. You can choose between spicy or regular, or have a mix of each. We went for the regular and the skin was super crispy and the meat was moist. Tender and juicy in the inside, and crispy on the outside. It also wasn’t overly salty. However, 2 weeks later, we went for the same combo, and we found it to be overly salty. It seems to normally be less on the salty side, but I’m not sure what happened with that batch.
