I came for dim sum with my family during covid and felt pretty safe with their protocols. We ordered most of their signature dishes - truffle chicken, truffle siu mai, the salted egg yolk buns and some classic dishes like the shrimp rice rolls, ha gao, etc.
The truffle chicken was very interesting and the truffle flavour is strong so if you like truffle, you should try it! Needless to say, I think they use more truffle oil than actual truffle.
Prices are higher than your average dim sum place but everything was above average. I recommend coming here to try some innovative fusion dishes instead of ordering the basics/classics that you can get at any other dim sum restaurant.

The dim sum at Chef Tony was fantastic. All the dishes tasted deserved a round of applause for the creativity. While some of the dishes are elevated in taste or presentation, I really hope they could have kept some of the old traditions, such as the old-school bamboo steamers. It is great to see Cantonese cuisine flourish in China with such greatly improved quality. And I’m glad this phenomenon is being reflected in Greater Vancouver. After all, here we have the best Cantonese food outside of Asia. For people who have only tried old school Hong Kong-style dim sum, it’s worth checking out the innovated dishes at Chef Tony. I would also like to come back to check out their dishes.
Chef Tong Seafood Restaurant is located on No. 3 Rd Richmond. It has been popular for a while. The same as many other Chinese restaurants in Richmond. This restaurant opens twice per day and between 3 pm – 5 pm the restaurant closes. It serves Dim Sum in the morning and seafood in the afternoon. At the early year, dad’s friends invite me and my fiance to go to this place to have a try. We had such a great experience at this restaurant.
Environment: Chef Tong Seafood is on 4600 No.3Rd #101, Richmond. The location is in between of Lansdowne Station and Aberdeen Station. Between these two stations, there are so many Chinese restaurants. Chef Tong Seafood is one of them. It’s very surprising to me that Chef Tong is one of the most popular ones. Since so many restaurants around, it’s easy to find the parking around the restaurant. We arrived at Chef Tong around 10:30 when it just opened. It was already a huge lineup outside the door. After waiting about 15 – 20 mins, we finally got into the door. Inside the restaurant, it’s all traditional Chinese Restaurant settings, nice and warm.
Service: Once we sat down, the servers brought us the menu to take a look. At the same time. They served us tea and hot water.
Food: There are five of us. We have ordered lots of food for brunch. All the food came out of the kitchen one by one. They are all in great quality and fresh. Most importantly, they are tasted delicious. We had Deep-fried Chinese donut $3.00, Shrimp and matsutake dumplings $6.88, Ground beef ball $6.88, Choy sum and preserved vegetable in brine $10.95, Steamed bun filled with salty egg yolk lave $8.28, Baked barbequed pork buns $6.38, Baked barbequed pork buns $6.38, seafood sauce bean curd $6.88, small ribs with black beans $$6.88, Marinated Chicken Trimmed with radish, red onion, and pickles $24.80/half, and etc.
Final Thoughts: The food in Chef Tony has great quality and representation. Highly recommend people to have a try. I heard they will open another location in Metrotown. Definitely, we will go there when it opens.
Chef Tony is one of the best dim sum places in Richmond. Plenty dishes to select from in which some of them are quite unique compared to typical dim sum restaurant.
The portions are standard, but the flavours are there! Love their food that’s for sure.
The place is quite famous and was often visited by famous singers and stars from Asia. Attentive service by friendly servers.
Highly recommended!
Delicious dinner. Most dishes were great, but the deep fried oysters and the stir fried milk seems a bit too oily. However the restaurant is definitely overpriced. They charged $90 for a big bowl of duck soup.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Chef Tony for a family dinner so I figured that it would warrant another post. The last few times we came here we were super hungry at the beginning because the service took so long to start! One time it took us FOUR HOURS from start to finish which was completely absurd!
○rude service (depend on day and time)/ be ready to wait during the weekend even if you made reservations/ expect to wait at least 30m/foods does take longer than other dim sum places to come out
○good food for dim sum/ favorites are the truffle sui mai / egg white egg tart/ they have several unique items/ every once in a while they change their menu
○good food for dinner/ favorite is the truffle chicken
○parking is a hassle for sure
○family friendly
○price isn't bad since they're sharing dishes
○if I had to choose 1 dish: truffle sui mai
○would I go back? Yes
Very good place with some extraordinary dishes. You have to come here. Went there on a Sunday afternoon. The parking could get crowded so just be prepared. I parked in the 30 minute parking space, parked there for about 2 hours, and my car was fine. I don't think these Chinese places care that much.
Chefs Tony restaurant is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to. It serves classic Chinese dishes but with a fusion spin. It clearly has a French influence as one of my favorite dishes is the chicken with truffle. We ordered multiple dishes that night and they were all really good. I would come back here for dinner and also for dim sum.
All dim sum we ordered were great! Excellent food quality. The only bad comment about this restaurant was the noise level. We could barely talk when the restaurant was full house. Way too noisy!
It is nice restaurant. High end. The food is very good.we 20 people we order whole menu. We love everything here. The price is more expensive than other bc it is very clean n nice In side. The service is very fast.
Following a friend's recommendation, we went this morning to Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant to try, among other things, their intriguing siu mai with truffle!. Interesting to note: NO SAUCE for anything! Even though you are charged $2 per person for "tea and condiment". TIP: Dim sum order checklist is only in Chinese, but thankfully the numbers correspond to the menu, which has pictures of most (key) items.
During my weekend in Vancouver, my YVR's Foodie friend highly recommended that I give Chef Tony a try. She was kind enough to make a reservation for us and even treated us. Just want to thanks her for her kindness and hospitality.
Dim Sum with a twist. We ordered quite a few items on the menu and I enjoyed most of the items but some of them was definitely a miss.
Signature Dim Sum:
Black Truffle Pork and Shrimp Dumplings 黑松露燒賣
Shrimp and Matsutake Dumplings 松茸蝦餃皇
Bitter Gourd and Shredded Rice Noodle 涼瓜汁雞絲腸粉
Yi Dong Special Egg White Custard Tarts 酥皮奶香蛋撻
Dim Sum:
Chicken Feet 醬汁鳳爪
Sticky Rice Stuffed Chicken Wing 糯米醸雞翼
Steamed Spare Ribs 豉汁香芋排骨
Braised Beef Tendon and Stomach 柱侯牛根肚
Their signature dim sum were all well prepared. I am a fan of bittermelon so I really intrigued with the rice noodle. I would say just pay a little more and just order from the Signature menu to avoid disappointment.
Came here on a very semi early morning, because i want to get a lot of things done early in the afternoon, and we had a large group going to this location. so then, i have also reserved a table for around 12 people, and everything went well, they assigned us to a room, which is really cool, and we ordered a lot of items because i was pretty curious on what are the food taste like after all the reviews... well it's true most of the dimsum items are a little bit different, it have a twist on the flavor by using ingredients that are usually not used, like there's a bitter gourd skin, that was something new, and good? hmmm by the ingredients and taste i'll say it's good for it's standard, but not my preference.
Most of the items have good ingredients, like siumays using truffles something different but i myself will prefer the regular dimsum, it's a preference thing, all the food is made nicely, the price is a little bit pricy as well. spending around $27 if i'm not mistaken per person. the baked assorted mushroom is also a little bit different as well.
overall like other reviewers, i would try this restaurant for a different variation of dimsum taste, but for me after having this meal, i know for sure that i prefer regular dimsum, but my other friends some prefer this place.
Pretty good food and service. Prices are above average but willing to pay as the food is quite good. Nice atmosphere and not as noisy as others.

The last was the Baked Durian Paste Pastry. The outside was extremely flaky with the inside filled with some durian paste. The paste was actually not very strong but still pungent nonetheless. If you want strong durian pastries, I would suggest trying Shiang Garden’s.
Overall, I was quite pleased with Chef Tony. The food is carefully prepared although there were some hits and misses. It’s nice that the chef is getting creative with traditional dim sum and adding other complex flavours to the dish. This of course comes with a price but the service and ambiance is also much better than many other Chinese restaurants.
Generally speaking, we’re not the kind of people that line up for restaurants anymore… if we do, it better be darn good. And if you see us lining up for dim sum, it probably means we woke up late (after all, there are tons of places to have dim sum and we prefer eating early to avoid the rush).
Not your typical dim sum but it was very delicious. The restaurant is too crowded though and packed in more tables than they have room for. I would definitely go here again.
Another Good Choice for Dim Sum Lunch in Richmond
Talking about the tea first : Citrus Peel Pu-Erh; Jasmine - very good quality tea leaves
Dim Sums ordered - Plain Rice Rolls; Shrimp & Matsutake Dumplings; Black Truffle, Pork & Shrimp Dumplings; Bitter Gourd & Shredded Chicken Rice Rolls; Minced Beef Dumplings, and a few other traditional dim sum dishes. Finished with a dessert - Baked Egg White & Cream Buns (very yummy)
Most of the dim sums were quite outstanding, except for the Plain Rice Rolls dish, which was a bit cold.
Price was a bit expensive but seemed reasonable compared to the sophistication of the food.
Decoration of the restaurant was nicely clean and bright. However, not sure if it was the ceiling height that matters, it was quite noisy.
Customer service was ok.
Definitely will go again, for lunch and dinner.
September 1, 2015 · by ThatShanghaiGirl . Dim sum time! Chef tony is pretty much fancy dimsum and I’m lovin it. Service is alright and the dimsum was well made. The place just feels nicer because of the decor......
Absolutely LOVE all the specialty dishes at this place. Such a clean, decorative environment as well. Overall, provided such a good experience. The only downfall would be the hefty price tags but the food is worth it for a treat once in a while!
I've only ever been here for Dim Sum. If you're looking for cheap Dimsum, go somewhere else because this place is not cheap. If you like traditional Dimsum dishes with a twist and don't mind paying a little bit more for it, then its worth a try. Especially for truffle lovers. Definitely make reservations if you can, or expect to wait at least 30min for a table during peak times.
Top-Notch. Chef Tony has some unique and creative food at a high price. The dishes are top notch. The "tea" charge is $2 per person, which is pricey compared to other chinese restaurants. I think their dishes are very delicious but they add too much fat to their dishes. The
"dim sum" is delicious and there is many kinds of food on the menus. At dinner, they have their menu on iPads which is very cool for kids to look at and it is eco-friendly. This is one of the best chinese restaurants in Richmond that I have ever ate at.
Delicious Nouveau Chinese Dim Sum. Came for dim sum because we heard of the creative spins on classics here. We were not disappointed. We tried the Black Truffle marinated Chicken, Black Truffle Shiu Mai and Egg White Custard Tarts. All were outstanding. Egg tarts were so smooth and perfectly sweet for my cbc tastes - a little sweeter than the ones in HK but less sweet than the typical egg tart found in Canada. I think the Shiu Mai were a blend of pork and fish paste - not as dense as the standard pork ones found at most dimsum places, fluffy like the fish shiu mai found at the HK daipaidongs but a little more substantial. The additional of the black truffle added a nice dimension. And the Black Truffle marinated chicken....so good. A little bit pricier than most places but so worth it. Definitely gotta come back.
The din sum at Chef Tony is really innovative and definitely not your average, run of the mill har gow and siu mai. Siu Mai with truffle oil anyone? Baked Egg White & Cream Bun $4.80 4/5 stars These were great! The buns were super pillowly and soft, and weren't dense at all! They were filled with a white airy paste that wasn't too sweet! This is one of their "signature" dim sum items because it was advertised on each table! Beef Rolls w/ Basil Leaves $8.38 3/5 stars I was surpr
Open for just over a year, Chef Tony Seafood has taken the city by storm. It’s bright white walls, glittering chandeliers and omnipresent staff has seen to make this restaurant the place to entertain and wow guests so it is only appropriate that with my fellow gang of visiting Foodies we celebrate the Lunar New Year in style, Chef Tony Seafood Style.

There are a couple of things that I am not embarrassed of to admit such as having an appetite of a man, and occasionally being cheap. You see, I used to go for dim sum frequently but am not really a "huge" fan. So when the bill comes to $80.00 for two people because BF always decides to order too much food, it eventually got me. Why are we spending so much on dim sum when neither of us find it special? And as a result, we agreed to only go for dim sum with our families or spend no more than $60.00 together. The plan kind of backfired however because our schedules never matched with our families' and neither of us have had dim sum for literally a whole year! So eventually we started craving for dim sum which is rare, because usually one of us wants only a specific dish rather than an actual whole dim sum meal. Anyhow, Chef Tony was my choice of restaurant for dim sum. From what I have heard, Chef Tony offers a fusion twist on dim sum and the prices are not cheap. I honestly did not have any expectations and expected average food. As for the interior, it can be considered a modern Chinese style. There are lighted pillars, plenty of chandeliers and a large screen which showcases the menu. Furthermore, there is a row of VIP rooms which looks very Asian. In Asia, most of the VIP rooms are laid out in a row but in Canada the layout might resemble a karaoke joint. Also judging by the prices, Chef Tony may be considered one of the higher end Chinese restaurants. However, the atmosphere is not quite there. The seating arrangements are cramped and the dining room is very crowded, not fancy at all. Diners should feel comfortable. In addition, the decor does not look "high end". SMALL ($4.00) || MEDIUM ($4.80) || LARGE ($5.75) || SPECIAL ($6.95). TEA ($2.00). There are a few comments that Chef Tony charges for tea, but every dim sum restaurant I know of does. Also, at least the restaurant provides a candle underneath to keep the tea warm! BLACK TRUFFLE, PORK AND SHRIMP DUMPINGS
One of the newer Chinese restaurants in Richmond, Chef Tony presents a similar concept to Peninsula Seafood Restaurant in Vancouver. Both take typical items and add their own personal flair, usually executed with more luxurious ingredients. Don’t expect your visit here to be considered “authentic”, buaPersonally, I found their decor eccletic. It’s modern, but it seems forced with multiple components going on at once – chaotic to the eye. The service here was great though, attentive and also approachable. They certainly seemed like they were interested in providing the best experience for the customer. Of course, it always helps when the customer offers the same back…
t rather a different approach on dim sum fare. For me, it seems befitting for those who have tried dim sum and want to venture for new flavour combinations. Presentation is regarded and taken seriously, as all items presented are to please the consumer first with their eyes. Portions here are certainly tinier, therefore
Great ambiance, dimsum was good except for the couple of dishes which most of us thought the truffle overwhelmed the delicate taste and texture of the shrimp. We had a great dining experience overall. We were able to find parking at 1000 in the morning but it looks like it can be challenging later in the day as most of the parking spots were marked 30 minutes.
Pricey dim sum but worth it for the experience! I loved their unique takes on traditional dim sum dishes, especially the ones with truffle. My personal favourite was their lava egg custard buns, which had ample amounts of delicious filling inside. The black sesame milk tarts were also good. Everything was made fresh and super tasty. Service was also pretty good for a Chinese restaurant/dim sum place.
They serve dimsum with a modern twist to some of the traditional items such as adding truffles to the pork/shrimp dumplings. The combination of flavour is good but I wouldn’t say extraordinary that I will come back for more.
The star of the show was the milk tart (hands down the best milk tart I ever had!) It was served warm and was so delicate that it would crumble in your hand if not held gently. The pastry was buttery, airy, super flaky, and the filling so light yet creamy that it literally melted in my mouth! It was amazing.
Service could be improved in my opinion. We felt rushed during the last half hour prior to closing for the afternoon. A server brought our bill early and even took away my friend’s eating plate (assuming he’s done) while we were clearly still finishing the food. At first we thought the server intended to switch new plate, but nope that wasn’t the case and we had to ask another server for another plate.
Just arrived from Toronto, overall was comparable to the dim sum there. Close to the airport.
Steamed Cuttlefish Ink with Shrimp Truffle was nice, can definitely taste the truffle.
Siu Mai itself nothing special, but the truffle adds a unique touch
Chicken Feet in Soy Sauce was average.
Milk Tart was excellent. Flaky fresh crust and light and hot milk filling.
Delicious dim sum! One of the most memorable restaurants in Vancouver / Richmond! Every dish was made fresh with quality ingredients, from the usual ha cau and bbq pork bao to their specialties like truffle siu mai, fried cruller with shrimps (amazing!), black cuttlefish dumplings and egg white tarts.
Please come and try for yourselves. I'm sure the other regular dim sum places are delicious too which I would have to try next time I'm there. But Chef Tony's was special. And I have to agree with everyone who recommended it. I called for reservation and did not have to wait. Although it did not look as busy on a Thursday morning.
Great place in Richmond for Dim Sum. Been here a few times over the years. They change the menu and style of some of the dim sum every now and then, but flavors are always good. The only downside is the location. The strip mall parking lot is hard to find space, as lots of the spots are 15 or 30 min maximum time.
I always enjoyed their smaller size for dimsum which means… i get to order more than usual!
