I find dim sum in Vancouver is way better than in Hong Kong, which is quite the opposite you would expect. I have heard people say, dim sum in Vancouver in only better because low quality food ingredient in almost non-existent in Canada with all the regulations. Those people say food in Hong Kong should taste better as the chefs in Hong Kong has better skill. I find that not true at all. I truly and sincerely feel that not only the quality of the ingredient is higher, but also the chefs skill in Vancouver is better. At least for most of the dim sum places in Vancouver and Richmond. Not very sure about Burnaby or anything east to that. I have heard some bad comments about dim sum over to the east side.
Nice & Quiet
An early Sunday lunch - a table for 2
For having a Dim-Sum lunch, this restaurant is one of the least 'noisy' one located at Richmond. They have very high ceiling. I like the environment.
We ordered a few dim sum dishes - Steamed Beef Meat Balls w. Bean Curd Skin; Steamed Pork Dumplings; Steamed Matsutake Mixed Mushroom Dumplings; Steamed Sticky Rice Wraps; Steamed Rice Rolls w. Prawns & Chives; and Bean Curd Wrap w. Minced Shrimp.
Everything was nice & hot. Service was ok.
A good choice if you like traditional dim sums.
Note: this review is for dim sum only
○good service / there was a major issue with our order and the manager fixed it accordingly
○decent food/ kinda of average Chinese food, nothing special or memorable
○lots of parking
○average price, similar to other dim sum places
○family friendly
○would I go back? Probably not
It was Father’s Day, I told my dad to pick the place and I would take him and my mother out for lunch. Not surprisingly he choose dim sum. My parents know what they like and typically keep within those bounds. I was however delighted that they look this blog into account and choose a Chinese restaurant I have yet to visit. My father has been here once before and remembered it fondly, enough to want to return again.
Extreme terrible service from Alvin. My husband and I went dinner last month. We are loyal customers have been visiting over 5 years. We were sitting on table 14 next to entrance of kitchen. Alvin walked by and bump into my back twice. My hubby told Alvin to be careful, but he was so rude and meant. He speaks Chinese to coworker to tease us, thinking we don't speak Chinese. The foods were excellent and manager were nice except Alvin. I have been for dim sum for few times and seeing Alvin wasn't nice to other customers as well. Alvin ' s terrible service stops me coming back.
Better than a lot of other Chinese restaurants. I often go to this place for dim sum whenever I go to Richmond. Both food and service are great and even better than most of other restaurants. It has never disappointed me so far.
King Crab. We went to this restaurant to feast on the king crab which was in season. We were not disappointed, if fact we found the food and service incredible. The server was most helpful in advising us on how much to order and very accommodating in providing the crab cooked various ways. The deep fried variety and curried crab in the carapace for the third course was devine. We highly reccommend Red Star to anyone who loves Chinese food done well and served quickly and efficiently. Yummy!
Amazing food, Amazing service!. We visited Red Star las Sunday, it was our first time and we're pleasantly surprised with the top notch authentic Chinese cousine and excellent service! Assistant manager - Kelvin Leung made us feel very comfortable, like we were old friends who know each other many years. If you would like to get an amazing Authentic Chinese Food and amazing 5 Star***** service you will be thrilled with Red Star. Thank you very much, we'll be back! Sergey and Family
That was a new location! when I first come here it has two floor than in Marpole because it only has ONE floor but it's bigger than the new location. but it's quite big.
Red Star Seafood had been one of the most established Chinese fine dining restaurants in Vancouver with 2 locations in Vancouver Marple area, and central Richmond. I had always wondered if they were affiliated with Superstar Restaurant Group in Hong Kong. They had shared the same restaurant name in Chinese and their logos looked very similar. This was my first time eating at the Richmond location, and I really enjoyed the food. 4 dishes were shared between me and my mom, and they were delicious. Shrimp dumplings, being the king of all dim sum dishes, tasted super fresh and showed great technique of dumpling making here at Red Star. The dumplings were hitting all the marks. The filling of a good shrimp dumpling should contain a combination of whole shrimps and chopped shrimp. Besides shrimp. Other ingredients should be very minimal and should not be more than a couple tiny shreds of ginger or young bamboo shoots.
The family went to Red Star Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. They are another large Chinese restaurant specializing in Dim Sum for Lunch and large dinners at night. When we asked if Red Star was affiliated with the Red Star in Tsimshatsui, HK…they said they are not related at all. Apparently, lots of patrons come in asking the same question since the name is the same. Red Star is located in Presidents Plaza, which is on top of T&T. They are not as elegant as Fortune House in Metrotown, but it's normal. They have high ceilings, draped curtains and a chandelier in the middle. We first ordered the watercress soup . This came delivered in a pot and made about 8 bowls. The waiter will soup it out into bowls for you. They remove all the watercress, meat, dates, and other ingredients into a separate dish for you. They also give you sauce to dip the meat. This soup was refreshing, but it's something you can make at home yourself. When the meat came out of the pot, it started drying up really
One of the few restaurants I would go to for Hong Kong Cantonese type dishes. The food quality, flavor and portion have been very consistent and never disappoint through the many times I visited. Price is comparable to the many restaurants in the area so nothing to complain.
Best part is you don't have to fight for parking since it pretty much has an entire parkade to itself, not like other strip malls in Richmond where 3-5 restaurants had to share 20 spots.
Great dim sim spot. All my favorites here including shrimp dumplings, beef tribes and intestines, sticky rice in lotus leaf, and their egg tarts are the best. To get there second floor indoor parking is the way to go where you can park up to two hours and you walk through a corridor to convenient walk right to the restaurant.
Excellent dim sum with indoor parking. Excellent, excellent, excellent service. Changes your plate, fill up your teapots and very proactive.
Tasty food, good ambiance and centrally located.
Also right now, there is 15% discount for lunch, simply amazing.
Good seafood restaurant in Richmond. A little bit pricey but seafood tastes good, especially their lobsters and shark fin soup.
