Love coming here - truly amazing place with friendly staff and great food!! Highly recommended for any occassion!
Doesn't get any better! Anyone who likes Canton food must try this place!
One of my last days in Vancouver ended with a big bang. We came here around 10am and there was already a line out the door. After being seated we ordered the filet with sliced meat congee, pan fried turnip cake and Chinese donut. The congee had chunks of fish, was flavorful and came out in a big bowl which could feed 2 people. The chinese donut was my favorite here (nice amount of dough and crispy on the outside). We had to cancel our turnip cake as it took forever to come out. I would definitely recommend this place for their congee and chinese donut. Prices here are fair (approximately $10 per bowl).
Growing up in Richmond, I remember there being more options for congee but it seems like those restaurants have gradually faded away. Kongee Dinesty provides a choose your own toppings version, à la Deer Garden, giving a personalized spin on the classic comfort food. There is a choice of 3 congee bases (plain, seasoned, black pepper), an assortment of garnishes and 2 toppings (among the choices are various meats, seafood, egg) for $9.85. We ordered Pork and salted egg in black pepper base and Minced beef and preserved egg in seasoned base.
Do not know why so many complaints From others, but I find this restaurant very good indeed. We go there virtually Every month, my Mother in law's best favourite. Food taste good. Fried dough wrapped in steamed rice roll, prawn with rice cake. I do not like roast duck so I have no comment. But congee is very good! Service? Don't expect 5 star restaurant services From a small local Chinese Restaurant. It is good enough to eat happily.
○good service
○good food/ customizable Congee/ all dishes were good
○family friendly/ portions are big so better go with big groups
○re-wipe your dishes / bowls, they're very dusty
○would I go back? Yes
This place has very reasonable prices for a decent breakfast. The service is prompt and fast. The only thing I noticed about servers is that it's a hit or miss with some. There was a very very nice couple next to us that was very polite and their server was a monster... I had to speak up for them since the couple didn't know how to speak Chinese. The rating was almost a 4 or higher but that one server was a mood killer.
The Chinese donut roll was nice. The noodle is decent. The peanuts in the congee is my favorite. I definitely recommend the food here. This was a last minute stop and I must say, the food is comforting here.
Looking for a brunch time destination with my parents, we went to “Kongee Dinesty”. They serve as a cross between a Hong Kong style cafe’s tea time and traditional Chinese dim sum. I mention that I was with my parents, so that you know to expect food and ingredients I wouldn’t otherwise order myself.
I've been here twice for their breakfast congee set - which is a pretty good deal (menu photo attached). There were a generous amount of liver pieces in the Pork Liver Congee, and they seemed to be good quality too (they weren't chew or super thin)! For the side, I would definitely recommend the Salty Chinese Pancake. It was one of the best I've had :) I also tried the Sweet Chinese Donuts which were just alright.
Pictured is the Sampan Congee, Pork Liver Congee (already mixed), Rice Roll with Green Onion and Dry Shrimp, Salty Chinese Pancake, and Soy Sauce Chow Mein.
Great congee joint. They are a congee house in the day and at night a full Chinese restaurant. Congee is smooth and silky. Chinese donuts are good too! Dinner is also pretty good there but tad pricey dinner menu. Food is always fresh and hot. Must try the roasted salty chicken! Its yummy!! Reservations recommended at night, as it can get pretty packed.
I come here for a stick to your rib breakfast. Congee. I never knew congee could be so good, but their seasoned base makes it so delicious. Paired with a sweet chinese donut...perfection!
She also wanted to try their Imitation Shark Fin Soup. The imitation shark fin is actually bean thread noodle. Lorna commented that the version here is just so-so. . We ordered congee with fish and beef and opted for the seasoned base. The congee is flavourful despite it’s msg free as the server told us. The congee here is rather thick.
After a long morning of shopping at the outlets, we decided to head on over to Kongee Dynasty for lunch upon my suggestion because I’ve been wanting to go there for a while and being that it was a cold day, a hot bowl of congee was definitely in order. To my surprise, their lunch menu wasn’t very extensive and mostly consisted of congee, rice and noodle dishes. We wished that there were more dimsum options available besides steamed rice rolls.
For some reason or another, I always seem to have troubles when trying to check out restaurants… from lost reservations and power failures to my personal favourite… restaurants being closed when they should be open. Such was the case when I had tried to visit Lido Restaurant in Richmond. Since they were closed and it was still early in the morning, I wound up dropping by Kongee Dinesty since it was relatively nearby.
Kongee Dinesty 金津 is located on Garden City Road and Capstan Way.
We went for a late lunch because we wanted to avoid waiting. We wanted to try a lot of dishes, and it ended up we had ordered a full table of food.
We ordered one custom congee (included: plain congee base, minced beef 碎牛肉, doce fish 鯪魚球, pork liver 豬潤). The congee can be shared among two people. It was smooth and balanced.
We also ordered a Sweet Chinese Donut (牛脷酥), Chinese Donut Wrapped with Rice Roll (炸兩), Pan Fried Rice Rolls with XO Sauce (XO醬炒蘿蔔糕).
The Sweet Chinese Donut was delicious! 😋😋

I hardly go for congee unless I'm sick but I came across this place with Phil and thought it was a great breakfast option if you live in Richmond. You can customize your choice of congee for $8.95 a bowl with two toppings. . For base, they either have plain, seasoned or black peppered base. My friend tried the plain before and told me it literally had no flavor, therefore when I came here, I knew automatically I am getting the seasoned base. For toppings, they have a good variety of options, I went for Chicken and Salted Egg. You can also choose whichever garnish you would like on your congee. I really like how they had this option for you and you can choose as many garnishes you would like. I went for Green onion, pickled radish & preserved vegetables.
Since this place opened, we've tried both lunch and dinner. Surprisingly, this has been our GO-TO place when out of town guests arrive and we want to impress them with a well cooked meal experience.
The simplest things for success in any restaurant are: fresh ingredients, consistency in cooking the dishes, and not being skimpy on what you give for the price.
For lunch, their congee is, compared to many places in town, as one of the best for me. Dinner, I would suggest their tiger prawns with rice cake. Melt in your mouth flakes of rice cake …. you would not be able to stop shovelling into your mouth. The dish was around $25 so on average, the prawns were about $2 each. The tiger prawns were pretty decent size. And if you closed your eyes, you may just think you're biting into lobster meat!
The only downside is the wait staff seems to oversell their nightly features. We've already ordered a shrimp dish and fish dish, and they were trying to sell us fresh shrimps by the pound and fresh fish at market price. You just have to be persistent to them and say, NO! XD
And dont forget this place is CASH ONLY.
TODAY WAS GLORIOUS. My first meal out since the return of my tastebuds!! HALLULJAH!!!!!! It was a glorious day indeed. Praise the Lord. Just when I thought my blog was about to tank. I've been avoiding dairy and processed soy like the plague for the past few days - and it's paid off!! So looks like I'll have to put dairy on hold, but I don't even care - as long as I can taste my food, I'm happy!!
Dinner: Very good Chinese food, good "wok hay". The sweet sour pork is perfect. Ordered the fry rice and portions are good. Still the SASP here is to die for!!
Came here for a family dinner and tried the pomelo skin with mushrooms which i really enjoyed because i'd never tried pomelo skin. Also had chicken with rice cakes hot pot - flavourful but oily - as well as beef tenderloin black pepper sauce - very tender beef, a bit thick on the sauce. Fresh razor clams with garlic was delicious while sweet and sour pork was quite fatty, stir fried milk was pretty good and food was overall good but heavy and oily. Getting seated was a hassle even with reservations and they also forgot a dish.
A great place for early breakfast. Came here at 9:30am on a Sunday. Quick service, amazing Chinese breakfast. The portions are generous for their $8.95 combo. Definitely coming back often!
“Port” Liver, Kidney, Stomach Congee. I’m not gonna let their spelling mistake slide. The congee was off-white and tasted full and flavourful without being salty, which leads me to believe that they use some good stock to make this congee. Their menu shouts, “No MSG added”. The texture hit that good middle ground. Not too runny, not too thick.
Garlic Steamed King Crab. Superb!!
Blown Away. Was on my way to the Singaporean restaurant next door but decided to try out this new restaurant.
Everything I ordered was simply delicious. Ingredients were fresh and the portions were big. The staff were professional and even the owner came to chat with us.
This is definitely a new favorite in Richmond. Be sure to bring more people though since its tough to eat with two
A friend strongly recommended me to come and try this congee place so we chose to come at a Thursday night. Oh-oh, they are more than just a congee place. They serve congee at the day time and they switch to serve traditional Chinese dishes at the night time.
Every Day Is A Food Day
+3.5
Kongee Dinesty opened up earlier this year in the complex on Garden City. It offers congee and limited dim sum items during breakfast and lunch, but becomes a typical Chinese restaurant during dinner time. They offer a kitchen with glass windows so you can watch the chefs prepare your food. The restaurant itself is pretty nice with your typical dim sum restaurant decor. The restaurant itself is quite small though. We were lucky to score a spot at around 11:30 am, but it soon became packed by the time we left. The waitress basically put our bill down before we asked to shoo us out, since there was a line forming at the door. Sampan Congee Of course we had to try their congee, so we went for the Sampan Congee . We ordered this off their pre-customized congee menu, but you can actually customize your congee for $8.95. With this option, you can choose two toppings of your choice, the congee base and garnish. If you order from 8:00am to 11:30 am, you can also choose an extra side, like Chinese donuts, free of charge. Anyways, we ordered the Sampan Congee and added preserved eggs in addition. Sampan Congee comes with just about everything and it definitely had a lot of toppings. We shared this between four people, and everyone had at least one bowl or more. Quite delicious! Gingko Nuts and Bean Curd Sheets with Baby Bak Choy Next, we got some veggies, so we went for the Gingko Nuts and Bean Curd Sheets with Baby Bak Choy . This was a healthy choice and the bak choy was very fresh. Chinese Donut Wrapped with Rice Roll Then we went for a dim sum item, with the Chinese Donut Wrapped with Rice Roll . The Chinese donuts were fresh and crispy with the rice roll being relatively thin.
For a new restaurant, Kongee Dynasty has put its best foot forward. Portions are large. Each dish’s taste was well balanced and consistent. I feel each item was cooked well. None of our dishes tasted overly strong or weak. The restaurant is sparkling new, modern, and clean. Service is very friendly. Lastly, the prices are comparable to other similar establishments in the area.
The restaurant is in an easily accessible plaza... Food: Good... Service: Good... Value: Good. Their prices are quite reasonable and the food is pretty good.
Kongee Dinesty opened its doors at 9020 Capstan Way in Richmond earlier this month. It serves delicious congee and a variety of house-made snacks...! But wait, they serve more than just congee. I was invited for a media preview, however, I was too busy and missed it. But will definitely give this a try when I’m in the area. Don’t know what congee is, be sure to check out their website . First of its kind in Canada!
