Review Ebisu Japanese Restaurant - Richmond

Jack Chan
A steadfast Japanese tapas/sushi place with a wide variety of sake, if that's your thing. The food is palatable and while they have nicer cuts of tuna at an economical price, don't expect "omakase" quality. Nice presentation on their dishes and the staff are friendly. Clean establishment with lots of parking.

Awsome place, very attentive staff! Drinks were pretty good too. Oysters on happy hour were delicious The food was Amazing and the way it looked warranted pictures so judge for yourself.

Good food and excellent service!!! The oysters are fresh and salad is refreshing too. The tempura fish roe rolls is the best, layers of texture and flavors, soft combined with chewy, tempura's crunchiness melt into the fish roe and accelerate taste buds in your mouth. The boiled prawns were so so, wouldn't recommend, and the spainch was bit too sweet for us.

Absolutely best value in town. After over five years dining here, they have yet to disappoint the quality, service and presentation. Exceptionally consistent, no bull. I give out many 5 stars, but this one is a FULL 5 star.

I took my family here for our family night and our meal was perfect. The Yokohama Bento and the special Amuri roll had perfect BBQ eel, and the Thunder Fries were a great appetizer for the three of us. Safety protocols were followed, and the restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away. It's become our favorite sushi place!

Randomly stop by for lunch, surprisingly it is 75% seated. Waitress are young Japanese and looks like they are coming for working holiday. Pure and not very experienced, but very kind and nice. Food is more less the food court level, sashimi and rice is not staying together. Well, price is kind of cheap (14.95 for lunch set), that's what you should expected. 3 Stars for this time, may try for a dinner in the future.

This Japanese restaurant has excellent presentation and great food. The chirashi is beautiful and even has gold foil. Very fresh seafood and good portions. The chirashi has good portion size. We also ordered the bento box which is very good value with tasty tempura. The oyster motoyaki is great. The boss here is also a wonderful guy to talk to.

Went here for lunch in Feb 2022. Ordered lunch bento box set meals. Everything was pretty decent, nothing was amazing but all was fresh. Sushi was like any other average sushi place in Richmond. Sashimi was cut quite thin. Tempura was crispy as it should be and not saturated in oil. Portions were a little small and may not be sufficient for an adult male. Service was quite good for an Asian restaurant as staff were polite and frequently clearing dishes, refilling tea, etc. Restaurant is dated and could use a reno but it was clean and comfortable.

This is the first sushi / Japanese place we tried since moving here in November. 7 months later and many other sushi restaurants under our belts we can now give an accurate review of Ebisu, Richmond. The restaurant is clean and well kept, servers are familiar with the menu and if not, have the right sense to ask management. Food is served hot and delicious, oyster on the half is fresh and the Sauce is amazing. We ordered the 'Royals Sushi Boat" for 2 and it was perfectly prepared. Don't forget the miso soup and salad with a miso dressing is unforgettable. Please don't change anything! You guys are doing great! Truly is our favorite Sushi spot in Vancouver! We look forward to many more visits here. Thank you for the great servicešŸ˜‹ John and Wendy Mitravich

Working in Richmond I am surrounded with Japanese Restaurants. I was impressed with this place. Food was good, service was good and prices are very reasonable

A very busy place but kept on going as the food is fresh and very affordable.

Found a worm in our oyster and they refused to give us a refund back, claiming "it's not their fault" absolutely terrible customer services. *picture in comments*

Food was great. Fast service. Nice atmosphere. Iā€™d definitely go back!

I love sushi and this was by far one of the best places ever.

Call me a regular, good food at a good price doesn't get any better!

What do u think about this picture ? Is it cooked or not? when they remade our chicken Karage it was still pink like this. And they said it's really like that. I've also worked in the kitchen years ago and I know how a cooked and not cooked looked like. It's not rocket science , it's common sense when u don't thaw the chicken properly even if u cook it in a very hot oil it won't be cooked thoroughly. Very bad service in this location. Never coming back again !!! Pic will be in the comments

Shitiest ramen ive ever had! If im not reallt hungry i would not eat their shity ramen with 1 egg 1 rice cake and 2pcs size of toonie meet.

As always, excellent value and great taste! Thank you for always meeting our expectations.!

They don't cater to walk in customers. We had another half an hour to order food, but did not take our orders instead of moving us to a different table, they gave us the bill. Do not go here, service is awful.

Been to this place a few times, price is reasonable, food is average, so nothing really to praise or complain in these two areas.

Service is a hit or miss. Sometime we get a very nice waitress with a friendly smile, and ask us how was the food and etc, other time we get a b*tch who always looks angry, and doesn't even ask us before taking our plates away with some food in it.

Ebisu Richmond is a chain restaurant located in the busy Richport Town Centre mini mall. Iā€™m not sure what it is about this place but the parking lot is always super busy. We dropped by for lunch one weekend in May and were lucky enough to find some parking. One of the things that we like about Ebisu is that they have a number of boxes, boats, and combos that you can choose from. We wound up ordering the BBQ Unagi and Sashimi Boat ($15.95) as well as their Lunch Special ($11.95) which lets you choose 3 items from a list of various dishes.

Restaurant had an izakaya feeling to it. Food was decent, though some items needed more flavour. Tokyo Bay was a neat twist on iced tea! (3.5/5)
YM_Bape
Its ok Japanese food with a little bit of fusion going on. Service is ok and a little bit slow but will come back for beers and appies. Parking is kind of an ordeal during busy times.

Came in here for something casual with my boyfriend... Ordered a variety of sushi rolls but really enjoyed the Saba Inferno Roll.. The water could have torched it slightly a few seconds longer becomes it still tasted just like sashimi.. But the Saba was tasty... Chicken wings seemed popular but were a bit small & over crisp for the price..

i have eaten there a few times and it was good, BUT this time it was terrible, there served my daughter her meal and my husband and i waited 30 minutes for ours, we complained they said they were very busy, they were not busy at all. the WORST SERVICE, EVER!!!!!!
Nyh Lum
Store manager was extremely rude and would not accommodate one of our extra guests. Even when a neighbouring table allowed us to have one of their empty chairs, the manager went out of his way to take the chair away from us and left a guest chair-less. A simple solution would have been to either split our tables up OR simply give us a chair so we can squeeze in. The waiters even suggested these options but the manager again, took away these options. We eventually had to go to another restaurant. Never again will we ever dine here again.

My brother recommended this place for lunch on a lazy Saturday, while getting the benz serviced. The prices for the lunch specials have alot of value and variety. Our service was up to par with many check ups and tea refills. Their lunch boats looks amazing, but we all chose the $10 lunch special. You get to pick 3 items from the menu and it includes a miso soup. Pretty sweet. The food is fresh and tasted good. We were STUFFED and felt like we needed a lazy weekend nap LOL. I definitely recommend this place for lunch. Good value. Plenty of parking all around.
Prawn tempura nabeyaki udon, $11.50: The price for the udon was a bit steeper than what I normally would pay, but Ebisu is a bit more upscale. I donā€™t like when the tempura comes inside the soup, as it makes it soggy. We quickly took the tempura out before it got super soggy.

Food was okay but terrible service. Staff was unbearably rude to tell us time is up and we have to leave righr now to pass over the table for next reservation. Would appreciate if we are being asked nicely instead. Such a teribble customer service does not deserve the 15% automatic charge of gratuity! Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

I've reviewed this place before and had basically similar dishes, but here are several dishes that I haven't taken pictures before. This isn't so much of a review, just want to share some pictures :D

Love this place!! My bf and I went here for dinner. Food was soo good. Service was great. Price was very affordable too! Will definitely come back šŸ‘

Went here with my husband for lunch. I thought we will get the menu that we usually get that has so much different choice of food but we end up getting lunch menu which only have less choice. I ordered thunder fries and deep fried pork curry and my husband ordered sashimi salad and ebi mayo. Food are delicious. Good service. I rather pick the menu that has a lot of choice. Dont know if they will give it during lunch time.
PickyKasumi
They gave me a lunch menu while I sat down. Took me a minute to go through menu, it's just only have $9.95 lunch combo or sushi boat. Nothing interest to me. It's end up.. I asked for dinner menu instead...
2 of us had ordered their:
sashimi salad (2 pcs of salmon/ 2 pcs of tuna sashimi on mixed greens,
pork gyoza ( too oily),
saba/ tobiko/ toro (too chewy, not melt in my mouth )/ hamachi sushi ( not fresh),
fresh oyster Miyagi (it's cheap $5 / 3 pcs , but it's too fishy, I threw it out right away, it's my worst fresh oyster, I ever had in my life),
beef carpaccio (too chewy, but the sauce taste good),
volcano roll (so disappointed),
ninja kicker roll (omg.. Won't order again )
Good services, bad food quality, cheap.
It was really difficult to find seats during long weekend Sunday dinner. After trying 3 different Chinese restaurants in Richmond, we ended up here at Ebisu. Because there wasn't a long line-up we decided to have dinner here regardless J didn't like their food that much. Chicken Wings ($7.50)Ā with traditional teriyaki sauce tasted pretty good. Couldn't tell if the chicken itself was good quality because the sauce was overpowering everything else. However, the sauce was still good enough to make it tasty. Somewhat crispy on the outside and still juicy and soft meat on the inside.
Cafeeeli
A pretty good place for gatherings, but if you have more than 5 people, I suggest you make reservations (especially for dinner). I enjoy coming here during lunch time as their lunch menu have a lot of stuff to choose from. My personal favourite is the 3 items for 9.99. I tried their ramen, but it lack toppings and the soup base was to sesame oily. Their gyozas are pretty awesome too. Sometimes, I get one of the bento boxes, they are great deals with a bit of everything.

I came here for happy hour and it was packed! I ordered some honey mustard and teriyaki wings. The honey mustard wings were definitely my favourite because of the sweetness. The teriyaki ones were SALTY. For $4.90, it 's not a bad place to eat wings!

Decent place to get Japanese food. The standard menu items but food never fails to please here. A safe backup choice for whatever situation.

Service may be slow during peak hours but is always good

I've never been this angry at a restaurant. This is my first time writing a review of a restaurant. This is how angry I was with the service here (mainly at the male manager). My 12 year old daughter had a Orange Julius drink with her. When we were waiting to be seated, the manager saw her drink but didn't say anything. As we sat down getting all comfortable and ready to order, the manager came up to us with a attitude saying my daughter can't have outside drink and that we cannot drink it. I was shocked right at that moment. He didn't show any respect and kept saying we can't drink that, and if we want to eat here, we cannot touch the drink. WHY WOULDNT HE TELL US BEFORE WE WERE SEATED?!? And my daughter is just a little girl! What difference will that make?! Afterwards he didn't even let us talk and just walks off. We were so upset at his attitude that we got up and left. Never have I been this angry that I would need to come on here to write a review.. I usually let things go but this really got to me.. I've been to this ebisu couple times and I never mind the service from other staffs except the manager! Because of this, I will never go back again. And trust me, I will spread this to everyone about this.
Every Day Is A Food Day
During happy hour, they have a couple of deals going on. One of them were the Royal Miyagi Oysters, which go for a special deal for $0.99 per piece with a minimum of 3 pieces per order. Since S doesnā€™t eat raw oysters, I ordered half a dozen for myself. These are tiny oysters and come from the Cortes Island in B.C. They were fresh and sweet. Great with a dash of Tabasco sauce.
Elaine
Just bad overall. The first time we came here, the service and food were good. The second time, it was awful. Giving us avocado when we told you we had an allergy. Charging us auto gratuity for 7 people when your rule is that you charge auto-grat for 8 people?? And when we confront you about it you do a quick head count, realize that you've made a mistake and then tell us that you charge auto-grat for 8 SEATs, not necessarily 8 people. Ridiculous. DO NOT COME HERE unless you want to be treated unfairly.

The owner seems like a very nice guy, he was making conversation with another table (:
Also, the workers there were talking in Japanese, it felt authentic and welcoming

I like this place!. I know there are a lot of choices when it comes to sushi dining in the lower mainland but I found Ebisu in Richmond to be excellent. Their menu is interesting and varied with lots of innovative dishes. My wife and I have been coming here for a few years. Our favorite dishes are the sashimi salad and the chicken wings. I know, chicken wings at a sushi restaurant? But they are succulent and tasty and of better quality then a lot of other "wing places". The servers are friendly and efficient and the overall ambience quite enjoyable there. Their drink selection is awesome. Try the Tokyo Bay ice tea for a cool refreshing beverage. To end your meal try the apple tart. Apparently it is the chef's own recipe! Delicious.

I went to Ebisu to enjoy two great pleasures of mine : the Canadiens hockey and sushi! They sat us at the bar and made sure the sound was good for us. We ordered two rolls and some oysters. Oysters were already fixed for us which I never had before but it was truly and new addition to my pallet! We were not that many cheering for the hockey game but the ambiance was really nice nonetheless. I recommend it to everyone in the area!

Learn to shuck an oyster please.. I went here with a friend for their Happy Hour Special. It was quiet for Happy Hour which meant we got served quickly. Here is why I am not returning for Happy Hour:

1. Oysters were shucked with bits of shells in everything. Suck an oyster and have some calcium with it. Learn to shuck!
2. Oyster were reasonable small for $0.99 each. If this is a normal size for the kind of oysters you got, I want to know where are the oysters with the radiation because they are probably bigger.
3. Had the chicken wings with the Japanese Miso flavoring. It's just BBQ sauce and MSG. Gross!

My favorite Japanese restaurant. I love this restaurant. The quality of the food is great! This is slightly more expensive than other Japanese restaurants, but I would say, you get what you pay for. My favorite dish is the Tsukune Don. It tastes delicious. The service is great; the servers are always so friendly. I like the ambiance of the restaurant, especially that the servers and manager are Japanese so the passion for their cuisine comes through in their service and food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Terrible service. The last two times I've been there they have completely forgotten to bring portions of our order; terrible customer service. It's unfortunate because I enjoy the food, but ever since they changed ownership awhile back it has gone WAY downhill. I'm swearing this place off.
Mobilethomas
Been coming to this restaurant for the last year on a consistent basis. Changed ownership around summer and the quality dropped 10 folds. I always get the lunch special with the tuna tataki salad. Last couple of times going there, they only gave me 2 tiny pieces of tuna. Very disappointed that they are cheating not producing a better product like before. Will not go back anymore.

No thanks. Very nice interior and decor, sushi was made the day before :( main meal was meh. i definetly dont recommend this place.

Very Disappointed.. I've gone to ebisu a couple of times in the past, but it was never this bad. The service was awful, at first the waitress was very polite asking us to wait a moment while she cleaned the table, then after we sat down, we had to ASK for tea. The server suddenly went missing for about 15mins. My mom thought the wasabi was turning yellow, it was not fresh and it was NOT real wasabi, it had no taste. The food quality was horrible. The sushi looked like they were falling apart. The tempura were super oily, and the takoyaki was very disappointing. It didnt seem thoroughly cooked, and it was very dry on the outside. Barely any sauce.
Never ever going back again!

Good sushi-. The food was good, like the ambience, service was okay,
menu has good selection...

loved the thunder fries with the dipping sauce.
Nosh And Nibble
For lunch with the Work Team, I had theĀ Chikuwa Cheese (tube-like fish with egg and cheese),Ā Spicy Seafood Salad , andĀ Beef Short Rib Don . I think itā€™s important to order a carby dish like the short rib don or the Thunder Fries from Ebisu because otherwise you wonā€™t get very full. Also included in your meal is either steamed rice or miso soup. Seeing as I was already getting rice in my don, it made sense to go for the miso soup which tasted like every other miso soup in Richmond. The coolest thing was the Chikuwa cheese, which as you can see below, has a tube-like structure but itā€™s very chewy and firm. It was my first time trying such an item and itā€™s definitely different from the flaky grilled salmon or halibut you might have at other places. The Spicy Seafood Salad came with tuna and was about the same as Sushi Gardenā€™s . The short ribs were pretty tender and they tasted way better than any Iā€™ve had at an AYCE restaurant. All-in-all for $10 before surcharges this was a fine lunch with a good variety on the menu.

Overall I do think the Richmond Ebisu is the worst location, food wise and service wise. I can justify the Ebisu at Robson for lack of service because it is always busy, but for Richmond? Naa. I wish I kept the photo of the beef carpaccio to post, but oh well. If you do come here for the rolls, you will not complain though!

I highly recommend you to come to Ebisu for the Lunch Special as I do think it's well worth its price. Depending on how big your appetite is, you can tailor your order accordingly by choosing lighter or heavier dishes. With such a great variety, there is something for everyone.

The restaurant closes at 11pm and we got there around 10 past 10pm. We were told that last call was in 10 minutes, but that was fine as we figured it wouldnā€™t take too long to decide what we would want to order. Ā Ā I ordered the Ninja Kicker $5.50 for 4 pieces. It had prawn tempura, cucumber, avocado, spicy tuna, slamon, Tobiko, and green onions. It was spicy, but nothing really to note about the taste. Satisfactory. Nice presentation and colourful. Negitoro roll $3.95 was satisfactory, though with presentation, the sushi restaurant likely wouldnā€™t survive serving sushi with rice coming out and bits and pieces stuck on it. The small Tuna Tataki $6.95 was refreshing with a variety of greens. Sheepie didnā€™t really like the sauce too much, but I thought it was fine. Again, nicely presented with arrangements and colours The Agedashi Tofu $4.95 was good. Despite the pieces of the large Rainbow roll $9.50 (8 pieces)Ā falling apart when you tried eating it, the taste was satisf

I think this about wraps up Ebisu lol (Iā€™ve been to all of them now!). Having had a rather nasty post-experience with the Chicken Karage (too much of a good thing isnā€™t goodā€¦), I decided to try their sushi this time around, and aim for something lighterā€¦ First off, we have the Tuna Roll (2.95). It was very nicely rolled (tight) and the tuna, as well as the rice, both tasted very fresh! Didnā€™t have much of any expectations for it, but it turned out quite well! Next off, we have the Yam Tempura Roll (4.50). Although it was nice and firm like the Tuna Roll, the yam tasted a bit old, as if the tempura had been sitting for quite some time. Lastly, weā€™ve the Chicken Teri Roll (3.95). They were firm like the others, and the chicken was tender, but yikes, a little heavy handed on the sauce. Being my friendā€™s birthday, we informed them and they actually gave us an ice cream cake! That was a very pleasant surprise, and it was a Pikachu cake! Lols. Kudos Ebisu, Iā€™m impressed at your good customer
Mashed Thoughts
The food was average, nothing special and prices are decent. You also get slightly frozen grapes at the end of your meal with the bill.

This is by far my favourite Japanese meal I have ever had. Long gone are kappa and avocado rolls. Even California rolls are boring, unless they are topped with something special. Stir fried noodles and sashimi are some of my favourite foods. Combine them with special rolls unique to the specific restaurant and I have got myself a delicious meal. Unfortunately, we did not have enough room for dessert so I shall try perhaps another Ebisu in the near future. There are still quite a few special rolls I would love to try. Clearly, the sashimi was incredible enough for us to stuff ourselves full of raw salmon! A note for next time, cream cheese in sushi may seem odd but is absolutely delicious!

On Monday, it was Berry's birthday, and so a big group of us went to Ebisu to celebrate :) We all ordered our own thing, but the wait time for some of the dishes were super long! I practically finished my food before two of my friends even got theirs. . .Ā I wasn't particularly hungry, so I ordered a Negitoro Roll ($3.95) and an Alaska Roll ($4.95) . The rolls were very basic, without anything "amazing". I did however, note that the negitoro roll had a bit too many green onions in it.Ā Dimsum ordered her favorite Dynamite Roll ($4.95) and a Chopped Scallop Roll ($4.50) Berry ordered the Prawn Teriyaki Boat ($14.95) which was quite a deal! In addition to miso soup and ebi sunomono, there were also dynamite rolls, california rolls, tempura, salmon tuna sushi and of course prawn teriyaki on rice. He also decided to order the Virgin Lychee Iceberg ($3.95) , which was described as good, with lots of lychee flavor.Ā Two of my friends ordered the Inferno Sushi ($9.50) . I didn't get to try an

Our fourth dish was the Mentaiko Udon. Let's get to the point, it was very creamy and sticky, everything clumped together. If I didn't mention to you before, I don't really like bacon either and this dish had bacon in it. Mmmm.... pretty obvious I didn't like this yakiudon that much right? :)

whenever i want sushi for lunch, i think of ebisu. but haven't been here for over a year as i've been eating alone all this time and would only buy takeouts (don't need to pay tips). realized they renovated and even moved the entrance. my favourite thing at this place is building my own combo

Ebisu Richmond is not something I would suggest going to or even trying out, I'm sure there are other Japanese restaurants that are 100 times better than this place.
Every Day Is A Food Day
I was surprised that Ebisu had renovated and the interior was much more stylish. The servers also all spoke Japanese giving the restaurant a feel of authenticity. And surprisingly, the bar tables were nothing like what we had thought. They were comfy booth seats that basically only seated two customers. It was extremely comfortable and we still had tons of room to move around. Thunder Fries - Freshly cut deep fried sweet potato sticks served with a tangy house cajun dip K decided to try the Thunder Fries and they were basically yam tempuras shaped like f

Happy Hour Sapporo 12.99 and Sake 8.95 + 0.49 wings or 0.99 oysters = yummy! A great place for Happy Hour. Cheap beer, wings, and also a great place to watch the game. Service here is friendly and the menu offers variety. Sushi quality may not be the finest, average at best, but it is the convenience and late nights which entices us.
Eating With Kirby
I didn't realise Ebisu renovated the interior until I arrived! It looks way more modern and chic now compared to the homestyle, comfy look from before. They also have a HD TV so this might be a good place to watch the game. I enjoyed looking at their menu because it contains many pictures and it helps me make decisions on what I want to eat. :P
