Went there today with my wife and was very pleased. We ordered the jurasic platter with beans, yam fries, coleslaw and cornbread for the sides. Chicken was tender, moist and well seasoned. Beef ribs were gigantic and had good smoke flavor. They coould have been a little more tender for my liking but their flavor was excellent. My wife loved their pulled pork, she said it was one of the best she's had. Which brings me to the pork ribs. Nailed them. They got the texture just right, the flavor was outstanding. I have to say that the portions of all the meats are generous. The slaw could have used a touch more seasoning but the cabbage was crispy and fresh. The beans had a good flavor but could have been a little softer. I prefer mine a little sweeter but the flavor brought a nice change to my norm. I found they have an HP saucy flavor. Cornbread was moist and sweet. Yam fries were crispy and well seasoned. This was my first time there and won't be mylast. Well done Hog Shack! Worth the drive from Maple Ridge.

Food was great but more than anything the service was probably the best service I've received any place in many years the staff were all friendly. This is the service that even makes me like me dig deeper for the tip and with a smile on my face

Ordered the big plater with a little of everything. It was amazing. The best corn bread and beef ribs I’ve ever had. I live in north Vancouver and definitely shall make the trip and come back. I also bought two of their dry rubs and used it twice so far one sweet and one original which were also pretty good.

My wife and I planned to be in Seattle sampling some restaurants she found, but with the current outbreak running rampant we’ve decided to try some places locally instead. Hog shack has an open seating area with comfortable chairs and friendly staff.

My wife tried a Cajun chicken burger and said it was a bit dry for her liking. I decided the easiest way to sample the majority of their meats was to try the Monster Burger with bacon, pork, brisket, real cheddar and mozzarella, and beef patty. It was really great. The pork and brisket were juicy, the bacon was crispy, and nothing overpowered anything else. Every bite was full of flavour.

Came here about 1.5 years and didn't write a review on it. There aren't many BBQ places in Richmond. Hog Shack is a good choice. Good service, food was good as well although some of the meats were a bit dry. We came for the brunch offering, but looked like they have stopped that now!

Hog Shack is located in the east side of Steveston Village near the water. They specialize in BBQ plates.  We got there early Monday for dinner and there was plenty of seating available. The inside of the restaurant is bright and clean. We ordered the fried calamari to start. It comes with a spicy aioli dip.  The calamari was a good sized serving and is lightly battered and not too oily.  We enjoyed it very much.

If u need to spike up your cholesterol levels, then its time to visit Hog Shack and order their Burnt Ends! I would call first to make sure that they have it for the day to save time and effort because this delicacy is sometimes sold out or 86. The brisket is good too but not as fun as burnt ends. I like how they have 10% vol alcohol beers to pair your bbq with as well. Praise the Lard!!

I came here for lunch and was greeted with the door opened for me. The overall service was excellent; the staff were attentive and genuine. I had the Big Johnson Plate, which was delicious! I would recommend this place.

This is going to sound really weird. We all know that this place specializes in southern bbq meats. One day I just didn't feel like hogging up my belly with meat and grease.
I ordered the fish tacos and everyone laughed at me LOL. It was actually executed very well. Fresh fish, fresh oil, fresh veggies. I felt great after my meal! It tastes really good. If anyone is looking for a alternative, dietary or religious, this is a good item. I was pleasantly surprised.

The bbq is real and top notch! The brisket and Dino (beef) ribs are superb slow roast bbq. The sauces, are however, on the simple sugar sweet side of the scale. The sophistication of the sauce is overpowered by the sugary taste. The marinade of the meat has depth. A bit more smokey flavour would balance the package. The worst part of this restaurant is the music!!! They play this metal hard rock and by 20mins in will start to drive you insane. If you can't stand this type of music like me, then take out would be a better choice.

Hog Shack just celebrated it's 5th anniversary on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 with Swinefest, a "competition-style" barbecue buffet that included a glass of Driftwood's fresh hop Sartori Harvest for only $35! It was a sweet deal that probably flew under a lot of people's radar, but it sold out well ahead of time anyways. We were there to celebrate and indulge, so here's the recap. Enjoy!

Searching for good bbq? Before you plan a trip to Memphis, check out Hog Shack in Richmond BC. Hog Shack is home to maybe the best bbq in the lower mainland.  The pulled pork sandwich was delicious and the double fried fries were amazing; we could eat there everyday. We definitely recommend checking out this place if you're a fan of bbq, as we believe its the best bbq in Vancouver, however judge for yourself and Check out Hogshack in Richmond BC.

Ordered the pulled pork poutine from their appetizer menu... what a huge portion! And I was surprisingly pleased by the taste (which was a feat in itself... as I was having a post-partum tantrum after my fiance and daughter didn't want to try the seafood restaurant I wanted to go to... so I had to begrudgingly admit that this ended up being the better choice). The meat was plenty, the gravy tasty, the cheese melty, and the fries crispy. Yum! My fiance ordered The Porker, a bacon wrapped hot dog with pulled pork, onions and jalapeños which he thoroughly enjoyed. Pleased to note they had a good kid's menu as well, and the 9 year old enjoyed her (also huge) grilled cheese sandwich. Service was pleasant, too!

Hog Shack has been around for a long time, and it’s probably the only barbeque meat restaurant we have in Richmond. Finally, I decided to make a trip to Steveston to get a meaty dinner. The interior gives you that all American feel with white and red checkered tablecloths and wooden decor. They have a lot of long tables as well so it’s great for large groups. Their menu is basically for the meat lovers, with all meats smoked in house and all the rubs and sauces also made in house. It’s the place to go if you want some Kansas City style BBQ.

Since it was the middle of the day, I wasn’t particularly hungry, so I didn’t really get to try out the real menu at this southern-style barbecue house. I knew I had to go back.

Amazing BBQ ribs... try to time it when Burnt Ends are available. Huge portions, yam fries to die for (and I'm not a big fan of yam fries), and their corn bread is pretty good too. Tried their fish tacos once as well and they give you 3 big tacos with a nice crunchy deep fried fish and a generous helping of slaw in each. I could only finish 2 at the restaurant but the 3rd made a very nice snack later on during the day... no need to heat.

A Good Lunch. In Fact, A Very Good Lunch.. I rarely get to Steveston, so I'll go ahead and do a fast review regarding the lunch we had last Wednesday. Hubster had the burger ( natch!) and I had the pulled pork sandwich. Hubster says that the burger was adequate....he's had better, but he would order it again. He loved the fries, (homemade, nice!) which had a seasoning mixture sprinkled onto them. This typically makes me mad.....mention it on the menu, please! In this case I'll give them a pass, firstly because I only had a taste, secondly because Hubster likes the seasoning, and thirdly because they were pretty danged yummy.

Onto the pulled pork sandwich. Much to like, with a few fairly minor quibbles. The bun was correct, soft and bready, which is how it should be. (Order BBQ in the South, and you will receive two slabs of Wonder Bread. I'm okay with that.) Coleslaw was creamy and fresh, also correct, although a bit more acidity wouldn't hurt. The pork was very finely pulled, soft and luscious and fresh. I could basically sit down and Hoover a mixing bowl of that pork all by itself, while softly growling with pleasure, but in a ladylike fashion!. I do like my meat.....The pork could have used a bit more sauce, so (without tasting first) I added a few healthy squirts of the sauce on the table, which turned out to be *quite* spicy. It also took the sandwich to sublime heights, I ate the entire thing, a rare event.

As a side, I had the soup, which was seafood chowder. An odd pairing, but it worked out well. The chowder was creamy and good, although I'm pretty sure it started with a commercial base. Please correct me if that's wrong. It was crammed with chunks of lovely salmon (Yum!) which made me happy, but I had to add an embarrassing amount of salt and pepper to pump up the taste, which made me less happy. I'd order it again, however.

The service was fine, no complaints, and the value for $$$ was very good indeed. A strong 8/10, and we will be back.

Good tacos. Good food. Be sure to make a reservation. Don't bring your stroller unless prepared to fold it and leave it by front door.

Loved the tacos. We also ordered dino bones. Those were ok but expected more. Lots of fries. Filling food.

sauteed veggies = i liked it... it made me feel better for eating less-than-healthy

BBQ Goodness. Baby back ribs had a great smokey and bit spicy flavour to them. Sautéed veggies especially the beets were really good. Yam fries and aioli were solidly enjoyed.

Pulled pork sandwich was really moist, maybe a bit too mushy for me, but that could be just preference. The salad side I had was very fresh with a light dressing and chunks of tomato and cucumber on top. A good balance to the meat. Of course there was the option of fries.

A large selection of interesting beers, with lots on tap!

Great option in Steveson. I find restaurants on the pier to have substandard food and if you aren't into fish and chips. Hog Shack comes highly recommended by me!

Great BBQ. Our first chance to try Hog Shack. We started with the Burnt ends, wow so full of flavour, we loved them, but found them very rich.
I had the brisket plate with beans and coleslaw and loved it. The meat was so tender. Rainbowcrab had the burger, she said it was very juicy and loved it, but wished it had a more chargrilled flavour.
We go back again for sure.

A great smokey, BBQ smell around the restaurant, not to everyone's liking, but hey smoking is done on the premises so expect it.
Homely food and succulent with a great selection, setting a little tardy around the edges and lacking refinement but food makes up for it.

This is one of my go-to bbq houses in bc. Their Beef brisket is so tender and it melts in your mouth. The service was great, the staffs are accomodating and the atmosphere really gets you into the mood of digging into those tender and perfectly barbecued goodness! I will keep coming back to this house. Great job!

Good Stuff. My husband and I went here for a cask event. I'm not a beer drinker, but he is and decided to head on over. The food was wonderful. I was so pleasantly surprised. We shared the St. Louis Rib and Pulled pork with Yam fries and Coleslaw. The ribs were beautiful. The smokiness of the ribs were amazing. I later found out it is smoked with applewood and hickory. The yam fries were the best I have had in a long time. I'm picking with coleslaw and even though it wasn't overly creamy it wasn't my cup of tea. That being said, it wasn't horrible. The owner John was very friendly and introduced himself to us. This we appreciated. Thank you for a great experience. We will be back again and next time we will be bringing friends!

Good BBQ.. Came here because of a recent Groupon. It was pretty busy, where even when we called ahead, there was a wait because a table had to be cleared. The service was quick, though you could see the servers were trying to keep up because it was so busy. Still, they were trying and I had to give them points for that. As for the food, it was good overall, though nothing spectacular. The meat was tender, though the pulled pork was too soft and was almost like a mush to me. The St. Louis ribs were my favourite, though our second order was drier than the first.

Heaven for a hog like me. It's a good thing that Hog Shack Cook House is down south of Richmond, otherwise my wife and I would tussle when she wanted to get take-away food from Memphis Blues AGAIN.

Hog Shack does its BBQ with a St. Louis/Memphis tomato-and-vinegar style sauce, and I detect a hit of pepper burn (maybe chipotle?) coating the inside of my mouth after I swallow. The brisket sandwich I had for eat-in didn't have the crunchy charred bits that Memphis Blues' brisket does -- I like that, BTW -- but the taste and texture was soft and mellow. I've had smokier-flavoured meat, but Hog Shack's is still good.

Dito for the ribs and pulled pork we brought home. Again, St. Louis style sauce on the good-sized beef ribs, but I think they might have had a touch of South Carolina mustard-style sauce on the pork. I don't know for sure, though, because that was my wife's meat, and it was so good she wouldn't let me have any. Beams were tomatoey and good, not a lot of meat in 'em, and cornbread was adequate.

For dine-in, Hog Shack is a well-lighted, airy space that looks like it used to be an auto garage on the docks by the Fraser River. Nice selection of draught beers to go with the BBQ, too. It might be north of the United States, but Hog Shack would fit right in in the Old South.

BBQ by the Pier. Came here for mainly one reason and it's the Pulled Pork Pancakes and it didn't dissapoint, quite yummy with the pulled pork and the pancakes had bits of corn and scallion embedded inside.

Also tried some pasta in the form of the Fantasia, which was penne with tiger prawns and tiny shrimp on tomato sauce.

Service was alright, they came when I was finished both dishes and needed a refill on water.

By urban geek, I have never in my life experinced BBQ in such perfection.everything from the falling apart devilish delicious meat selection to the locally produced ingredients made this dinning experince the best .the smell literally draws you in so if your ever looking for the most epic BBQ joint with the best service and food come to the hog shack.p.s do not forget to bring your appetite!

This little piggy !!. Went for lunch / dinner on sunday about 4 pm , place was empty so service was fast and attentive, as to the food... lets quantify things by saying first i am a foodie! second i am a bbq maven! third i have eaten at almost every bbq joint in town over the yrs , and 4th and finally i have enjoyed bbq all across the southern USA so i have an idea of what to expect and enjoy.. sun night i had the brisket and pulled pork with sides of beans and cornbread, fairly standard combo... the cornbread was good but ordinary the beans tasted house made and pretty good the pork was tender with full flavour moist but not wet with a nice kick definetaly worth another go round . the brisket was a little fatty for some but wowser !! moist , melt in your mouth with layers of smoke , and sauce flavour that transcend any bbq experience ive had in this town yet!!! if this is how they always do it im goin back for more Bubba!

Destination BBQ. I'm not sure why I've forgotten to review this place....we've been several times in the past year or so. The dino ribs are great, the brisket is our favourite, the St. Louis ribs are yummy, and the sides are pretty good too. The only things that were not special were the baby-back ribs and the fish tacos. One time, we saw someone attempt the "flatliner challenge" and it was pretty disgusting to see someone try to eat so much food so fast....I guess we are not the right audience for competitve eating. We are, however, happy Hog Shack customers and we will be back.

I've tried a lot of bq in the lower mainland & this place by far is the best! We tried the pull pork , beef brisket , corn bread , baby back ribs & the lemon ice box pie . All were fab. Staff very welcomeing . Worth the drive in from Vancouver !

I have been to Hog Shack five or six times and every time I have enjoyed a little more as they improve and become better craftsmen at BBQ.

They have a terrific eclectic beer list. Craft Ale's galore from the Pacific Northwest region and abroad. They don't have their beer list online but you'll have to go into Hog Shack and discover your new favourite. My husband enjoyed the Red Seal craft ale from California. I always have a taste of his beer and could easily have downed a bottle with him but had a large bottle of San Pelligrino. I only wish they had single servings as the bottle was too big for one person. I don't drink for medical reasons and feel like I'm having something a little special having a sparkling water that is not soda water.

We couldn't make up our minds as to what we wanted to feast on and were happy to see they have share platters. We chose Johnny's Jurassic Platter (feeds two) - Baby Back Ribs, St. Louis Side Ribs, Dino Ribs, Chicken Quarters. Choice of 4 sides for $50. We chose cornbread, beans, coleslaw and fries as our sides. My favourite BBQ was the chicken, juicy and perfectly cooked. James liked it all but his favourite was the Dino Rib. I liked the Dino rib too. Good fatty bits in it, yummy! The sides were good, my only wish was the coleslaw did not have a lemony taste which was unexpected, but as I got used to the initial surprise of the flavour it was also good. I think?

I was not a huge fan of the chicken wings as they were dried out and finding any meat on them was a job in itself. Perhaps it was a bad wing day but there is nothing like having juicy plump bbq wings they are addictive. Hopefully next time we are there the wings will have improved.

All in all this place is just what Steveston needed. I highly suggest grabbing your craft beer-bbq friends and head off to The Hog Shack Cook House in Steveston.

Just this side of texas. I became an addict when I worked in houston. A BBQ addict. This is as close as I have found since leaving but the real gem at this place is the bourbon ceaser. They rim the glass with BBQ rub and I could drink those suckers all day and night.

Man Food Heaven. I don't understand some of the 'ho-hum' reviews about the hog shack. We had the Jurassic Platter and Burnt ends and it was fabulous. My favorite, like everyone else, was the burnt ends - the flavor is amazing. The dinosaur bones were a close second, with a similar flavor. I enjoyed the ribs, which were moist, though I found the chicken a bit dry for my taste. The sides were also very well done. The beans were sweet, smoky and flavorful. The cornbread was the best I've had in the GVR - sweet, moist and buttery. The yam fries were delicious too, with a nice chili mayo. The potato wedges were not memorable, and I wished they were served with sour cream and onions. Overall, however, I'd say the Hog Shack is definitely the place to go for Southern BBQ.

Good Beer - Good Food - Good times. When it comes to ribs the bar is pretty high in our family. The Steveston Hog Shack passed the test and I will go back.

I recommend it for those wanting to catch a game, have a beer and chew the fat with friends and family. Its probably not a good date spot unless you're married and don't feel like making dinner.

The ambiance and is closer to White Spot than it is to the Keg. The ribs are very good (better than the keg) but they are let down by fairly generic side dishes. I got the sense my coleslaw came from a bucket right beside the bag of yam fries. Why does every one have the same yam fries?
With a little more effort this restaurant could really differentiate itself.

The one highlight is the Beer. Great Selection of microbrew. Ill be back just for that.

If you're a sports fan they have half the place covered by TVs and I can see game time being a popular draw in the grey Steveston winter if they market it right.

Very Good Food!. This restaurant in the middle of historic Steveston, is a nice place to enjoy a great lunch. Service can be a bit slow, since one lady is managing the entire dining room, however, not that bad. Never got disappointed with any dish.

Hog Shack is not just famous for outstanding BBQ, they also have a reputation for an outstanding craft beer selection and a wicked Caesar with BACON! Cheers to bacon. If you recall I’ve fallen in love with a Belgian styled beer called Saison and sure enough they had one on the menu. You can’t have BBQ with beer right?

Hog Shack is a barbecue house at Steveson in Richmond. This is my third time coming here and my other two visits were meh. The both times I have been here I ordered the JOHNNY'S JURASSIC PLATTER which comes with ST. LOUIS SIDE RIBS, DINO RIBS, CHICKEN QUARTERS AND PULLED PORK . The platter is more than enough for two people and you will have left overs. This is coming from a girl who would attempt to finish it all alone too. But to be fair to myself, it's only because the barbecue sauce tastes the same and your taste buds get bored of the meats. BF and I decided to have a late lunch and we came here on a weekday at 3:00pm.  The restaurant was dead and our waitress was friendly. The only reason we both decided to come back to Hog Shack is because Memphis was horrible. I do not remember Hog Shack being amazing and it always tasted average to me. There has to be a reason why we wanted to try Memphis right? Instead of getting the usual platter, we chose our meats and passed on the chicken

As I was reading my newsfeed on Facebook this morning, a little update from Hog Shack Cook House caught my eye and notified me that Burnt Ends were available today. That made me super excited, as I still had a Groupon voucher I was saving just for when they have this off-the-menu dish, since so many online reviewers claim it is a must-try at this restaurant. After phoning in at night to confirm they still had it, we went down to Steveston on this very sunny and warm evening. Burnt Ends are seriously burnt and VERY smoky. The meat was succulent and the smokiness was incredibly strong. The BBQ flavour was not too overwhelming, especially in the larger pieces. The smaller pieces of meat were very delicious and melted in my mouth. However, some pieces were mostly fat, which none of us ate. Are you a major MEAT LOVER?!

If so then you’ll loveeeee this place! It’s located in Steveston and they take their meat very serious. It’s near the water and it’s definitely a lovely area to chill on a sunny day with friends. They have free parking around the area so just drive, be patient and you’ll find a spot, don’t worry. The staff is very friendly and helpful with our choices in drinks. limmerZ wasn’t sure which beer he wanted so they told us to go up to the bar and let us try some and see which ones we like. Very casual setting, they have picnic pattern table cloths which made it feel like we were having an outdoor feast.

Because, Steveston is a little out-of-the-way for me, and most of the time, when I go there, I’m thinking fish & chips. But this time, I fought my natural inclination and wandered into the Hogshack instead. Hogshack is located near the waterfront, in a building that’s east of the Stevenston “boardwalk”.   The menu features the expected array of smoked pork, ribs, brisket, along with burgers, chicken wings, salads, coleslaw, beans, and even grilled fish and fish & chips.   I went with the brisket sandwich   This is a smoked slow cooked beef brisket, sliced thick and served on a soft bun, topped with barbeque sauce and a crisp pickle slice, along with a healthy load of coleslaw.  This sandwich platter comes with a side of fries or a green salad.  I opted for the salad.   This is a fabulous brisket

We ordered a half rack and it had six ribs and they did have a good amount of meat. Also they didn’t slather it with too much BBQ sauce either. For our sides we had coleslaw and yam fries with a garlic aioli dip.

The menu was the usual steakhouse affair. I try to not eat beef too much and try to cut that out of my diet, so I ordered the Fish Taco, $12, that arrived with a light salsa on it and a mixed green salad on the side. It was a decent taco, but the tortilla wrap tasted kind of stale and the fish was a little too crunchy to my liking - to the point that the fish was a little dry. But other then that, it wasn't bad. The sweetness of the salsa balanced out the dryness. I didn't pay too much attention to my mixed green salad, it was a little overdressed, so I had just eaten the bits of cucumber and nibbled on Michael's side dishes. The pulled pork nachos were amazing to say the least. I think between P and I, we could have just ordered the nachos and would have barely finished. Hog Shack Cook House is Steveston’s first and only BBQ joint! That’s probably the case because its Kansas City style BBQ wiped out/intimidated all competition. All of their meats are smoked in-house with rubs and sauces that are made on premise as well. Just walking in verified that very fact as a huge waft of barbecue aroma greeted us when we opened the door. They offer a 100% Craft Beer brew list to pair with their dishes, so you won’t find any Heineken, Canadian or Coors Light. The burnt ends were everything I hoped they would be. Essentially they are just little pieces of the rib ends and they are super tender and pull apart easily. The meat itself has a smokey flavour and I loved the bbq sauce. It had a good balance of tangy, smokey, with a bit of sweet.

Hogshack is a top tier barbecue place specially if you want some delicious corn bread, fall of the bone ribs and juicy briskets. By far, my favourite item is the corn bread but don't let that stop you from getting their rice pilaf and fries as well. Overall the food was excellent and the service was great as well. We will definitely go back.

This is the place I brought my good friend when I was craving for some nice BBQ MEAT. The food was excellent and of course, it was deliciously greasy - the joy from the guilt. My friend told me that he came back to this place again with his wife a few days later because he really liked this place. Yay! I would take half a star off for this visit as two servers seemed to be highly occupied even though the restaurant wasn't that full - it took me a while to get their attention before I could get hold of them. Maybe a busy day? It didn't bother me at all after the food was served. Good food, period. I will definitely come back again, but maybe only with my guy friends who crave for BBQ. Might not be the perfect place for my family who doesn't like greasy (I mean, HAPPY) food.

Great bbq in an amazing location. Our server Kelsey was super friendly. Seriously her quality of service was 5 stars alone. The bbq platter we had was really good too. The Dino bone is awesome, and they have great sides too. Wasn’t a huge fan of the baby back ribs.

I am not a big fan of bbq, but in here, foods' were yummy, and even the side foods were good. The servers were nice and kind. I think they know what they are doing. The interier was also appropriate and big enough to give distance between tables. I am willing to visit again if I go to Stevestone area.

I took the wife and kids to Hog Shack today. It was awesome, we had the perfect lunch. The caveman and the garlic prawns surprised us. Must go again :)
