Review Sura Korean Bbq Restaurant Richmond - Richmond

The restaurant was very clean and the ambience was a very "chill" one! The lighting was on the darker side, but it did add to the modern atmosphere of the restaurant! The servers were very friendly and kept checking up on us while we ate. The food was very delicious, although it was on the pricier side of things! My friends and I got the Royal Marinated Galbi, Herb Pork Belly, and the Seafood Pancake. The serving sizes are relatively big (especially the seafood pancake) and when you order food, it comes with many side dishes; you will definitely be full!

Had lots to eat, but was so hungry that I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of the food before we feasted. I did however get a chance to snap a picture of the pork bone soup which was amazing!! Would come again but for a special occasion or with more friends - definitely on the more expensive side of KBBQ. BUT regardless, still amazingly delicious 😍

Super attentive and great service. The food was great and many sides. Got the beef tongue and pork galbi and saam set. Perfect for two people.

Went for lunch and it was okay. Not overly mind blowing but not terrible either. Whelmingly meets expectations so don’t expect an above and beyond quality or service. Would go back if we were in the area and there were no other options.

Everything here was delicious. The quality of the meat was great. The soft tofu soup was delicious. Sura is on the pricier side but everything is amazing including the service. They also have an amazing lunch deal. Their seafood pancake is a must try.

Food was delicious. The pork bone soup and rice cakes were really good. It was a bit disappointing because I heard good things about the lunch set. we came for the lunch set, but it was unavailable with no news on when it would return.

Not the same "Sura" as we know in Richmond, this one is "more Korean". The food is quite authentic, sauce is great, and doenjang jjigae tastes delicious, while the beef soup is a bit less tasty. Price is fair compare with the one in Richmond.
Sandra Chan
They adhere to a strict limit of 1.5 hours even though there were empty tables. The food was decent…nothing to rave about. I miss their lunch special.

Great place to have a meal with family and friends, be prepared to go home with smokey smell on your clothes. The staff are wonderful, super friendly, and great service. Food is excellent. Except not to keen on their jelly fish salad, it was well laid out but not my fave. The tofu/seafood soup was excellent. Their meat selection is wonderful and tender. Except I find some sauces extremely too sweet. I will still come back. Best if you make reservations a week in advance to avoid long line up.

The staff was absolutely wonderful, and the food was probably the best food I have had in a very long time. Everything had the perfect amount of spice to it.

Excellent service and value! The quality of their side dishes and main dishes are all impressive, service is prompt and courteous, and the overall vibe and cleanliness is stellar. I would return here and would highly recommend it! We are curious though, what's in the $200/person set course meal?

Excellent food and service! Worth the wait and highly recommended! It's our family regular go to spot for celebration.

Very good premium meat BBQ. Just melts in your mouth. Would of given a 5 star but we couldn't get the full Korean BBQ experience as they ran out of pork belly and lettuce. Quick and efficient service. We ordered so much and everything was delicious. Make sure to arrive early or you will be waiting in line. Will definitely be back

I loved it, thought I was back in Korea again. Great service, highly recommend

Not only is it GR8T food the value is amazing, I went there with my wife and a friend of ours. We got the hot pot and I was shocked how low the bill was when you consider how much food we had. The only thing I should caution people, those side orders are addictive and they are all you can eat so just make sure you don't load up on them before your main course

Don't lie to people saying that you are open until 10pm if at 9pm you don't allow people in.

I enjoyed it . It was my first time going the staff was very Friendly.

Hello foodie friends! Lil’ bun was away for almost two months and the first thing she wanted to come back was some Asian food so where better to go than Sura?. Sura is one of the best places to go for Korean food in Vancouver. I’ve been to the downtown location a couple of times before at their downtown location but this was my first time at the Richmond one. As with the one downtown, there was a large line outside the restaurant when we arrived around 1pm on a Saturday. It took us 20 mins to get in but our food came quickly so we didn’t mind too much.

It should be noted that the menu can differ from what is shown and what is actually being served. For example, there was a substitution of spicy squid for a far cheaper option of sauteed bean sprouts.

Other things to note is the quality of the food, which isn't helped by the lackluster service provided. Servers are only interested in picking up empty plates or bringing plates. Don't even think about asking for other things, such as water or side dishes, as such requests may be ignored (multiple reminders are the key here).

With regards to the authenticity of the food, the only authentic thing is that the food is most likely made by a Korean. The flavor is lacking (and quite sad), and penny-pinching methods (whether possible) are utilized. Probably the best example is the lunch specials ($15 or $20 options). Although the food is provided quickly and cheaply, there is definite quality problem here. The abundance of cheap fillers (i.e., lettuce, beansprouts), the cheap cuts of meat (i.e., gristle and fat, rather than actual meat), and the stretching of soups and drinks (i.e., super watery and flavorless) makes this restaurant no better than the food provided at the food court. I'd rather spent my 15$ on a decently tasting meal at the food court, along with some bubble tea.

You might be then tempted to try the other options on the menu. I would highly discourage this, as the quality does not improve by very much. The only things increasing is the amount of money wasted.

Overall, I would avoid and try other restaurants.

P.S. - Some suggestions are the stalls in the food court with a lot of people, or Yuan’s Chuan Chuan Xiang (Chinese Hotpot).

The food is great- try the kimchi , egg omelette, beef . They are very delicious and flavorful. Do note that the helpings are large. We could not finish the egg omelette, beef and army hot pot soup and had to pack the omelette and beef back for breakfast the next day as the servings were large. There were 2 of us and the meal cost us C$95. Pretty reasonable for the quality . Will eat here again if I return to this city .

I was in today having lunch, the food was really bland, no seasoning, flavor at all. Service is poor. First our side dishes were dirty and we asked for new ones, but we never got our replacement. We will never go back.
Kathy
go early and beat the line-up! love this korean restaurant. food is amazing, and service is also great. very clean and bright, too. can be pricy, but worth it

If this is your first time here during lunch time frame, I'd suggest trying the set lunch menu. You get to sample a variety of dishes. Personally, I liked the soft tofu soup and the pancake. The staff is friendly and attentive as well.

○good service
○good food
○convenient location inside Aberdeen
○lots of parking
○family friendly
○if I had to choose 1 dish: bbq combo
○would i go back ? Yes

Friendly, quick service from waitstaff. Although there was a lineup for the lunch service, we waited only a few minutes before seated. Abundance of small dishes that came with the meal. The salads were refreshing and a variety of dishes, favourite was the grilled galbi on our table!

Sura is a reasonable Korean BBQ place in Aberdeen Centre, with an average wait time of 20 minuets during lunch or dinner time. The meat quality is good enough for dollar spent, but the portion size does need to increase a bit to reflect the price. Overall, I wouldn’t say the price is high nor it is fairly priced.

As a traditional food item in Korean cuisine, kimichi hot stew is a must order to check out the skill of the Korean Chef. Similarly, the side dishes are important part of Korean Cuisine. Obviously, Sura is a BBQ restaurant, so I didn’t expect too much, but it was probably quite bad in comparison to other Korean BBQ restaurant like Chosun.

On to the main: the meat is well marinated and the dipping sauces are good too. Stew hot pot is surprisingly good, way better than one would expect from a BBQ restaurant. Rice is firm, fresh and hot.

Service is definitely one of the best attribute of Sura Aberdeen. Normally, any Korean restaurant would have quite good service standard, Sura here takes it to next level.

Service: 4.5/5
Food: 2.5/5 side dishes are major issue
Price: 3.5/5 portion size consideration needs
Environment: 3.5/5 expect noisy

Overall: 3.5/5

FYI: second photo is the recent side dishes of Sura, first photo is the past side dishes of Sura. We can see improvement in side dishes variety but not the quality or taste.

I always come to this place for lunch when Im in Richmond. Come right when they open though or there is a long line up. For lunch, they have the Sura-RA which is the deluxe set lunch for 2 people or more. Comes with a variety of dishes - sweet and sour crispy pork, pork belly, braised beef, your own beef rib to bbq, fried fish, japchae, soup, rice and a variety of sides and salads. This option is $20/person. They also have a $15/person set lunch option with less dishes. If you don't feel like eating so much, they also have their open menu where you can order what you want to eat. There was a $38 beef rib that looked like a nice cut and was really tempting!! Customer service is great, very attentive with waters and helping to cook your food and cut the meat for you. Definitely a good place for two people or for bigger groups.

Sura is not a place to be disappointed if you're hungry for Korean. I came here for lunch when it opened at 11am and noticed this place was already packed to a tee so come here early to avoid the line up. They have a offer a couple combos $15 to $20 per person which seems like a good deal. We took the $20 dollar per person option which included around 13 dishes and grill your own rib eye meat. The rib eye meat was tender and sweet. The dishes I liked were the soup (miso /kimchi flavor) and fried fish (topped with a light and fresh creamy dressing). I saw a family order a $38 dollar rib eye and was tempted to get it. Pretty much look like a dinosaur rib out of the Flintstones. I would recommend giving this place a try.

Fairly tasty Korean food... Especially the BBQ meat. They're well seasoned, marinated and juicy. The other dishes are okay and very similar to other Korean restaurants for cheaper prices. Everything was fresh and flavorful.

The only downfall is that they do not have a set menu available for dinner, only lunch! It would be nice to have something similar to their set lunch menu at dinner... Or to offer that all day, because it's a lot of food. Also, we were sad that they didn't have soju and yogurt drink! Oh well, tasty food, though pricey.
Nuinui The Cat
One of my favorite Korean restaurants in town. The quality of their BBQ is really good. Good service but there is always line up.
The best value would be their $15 or $20 lunch sets. You will get 10-15 items!
Kimmysomefood
Came here for their lunch special! We decided on the $20 set because we wanted galbijim instead of bulgogi. Service was quick and we got lucky cause the lineup started after us! Food came quick very very quick. The food was fantastic! Loved the BBQ meat and doenjang jigae was the best dish! The galbijim was drier than I expected and not as tender and flavorful than I'm used to.Overall the experience was nice, the food was on point and service was quick. The lunch set menu gives you a taste of almost everything in store and it's probably the best deal for good Korean food at lunch time!!

I’ve heard the name “Sura’ being tossed around here and there these days, when the topic of good Korean food comes up. My friend had previously visited their downtown location and given how there is almost always a line up as soon as it opens, must be damn good with the locals. I ordered the Stone Bowl Bibimbap (14.99). The rice had a nice stickiness to it and had lots of crispy bits at the bottom. There were plentiful amounts of fresh vegetables that added crunch to each bite, some beef, and some glass noodles. For whatever reason though, even though the waitress did add sauce to it, it seemed to be spicy but lacking in taste. Not sure if the remedy would simply be more sauce lol.

Welcome to my blog where I share my opinions on being an adult and post my reviews of stuff I buy and things I eat. Feb 12 BIRRY EATS: "A life changing meal" - Sura Korean BBQ. It's always great to catch up with old friends, especially friends whom I have such a long history with. We were supposed to go to Midame Cafe and Bistro but for some reason, there doors were closed at 11:30am when the signs said opens at 11am.

Tried their Lunch Special - Set Course Menu $20 per person

Went there during a weekday when I got a time-off, very surprised that this restaurant was very busy with a long line-up - it was nether a holiday nor a weekend.

For the Lunch Special, you could choose either the $15 or $20 per person set (2 persons minimum). This was the first time we went there & we've chosen the more expensive set. I observed that the customers sitting beside our table ordered the cheaper $15 per set menu. Honestly speaking, I did not see quite a difference.

The food as a whole was just average in quality & also quantity. Many of them were a bit too sweet. There were lots of dishes but the majority of them were cold appetizers. The restaurant was too busy and when the server placed the small dishes on our table, she just placed them wherever there was space & left right away, making the table a kind of mess.

We may visit again to try their $15 per person menu. I will write an update at that time.

Sura Korean Cuisine currently has two locations in the Lower Mainland… one on Robson Street in Vancouver and this outlet on the lower floor of Aberdeen Centre in Richmond (takiing over the old Tropika location). Sura is known for their set menus and we wound up ordering the Lunch Set Course RA at $20 per person. To say that this meal comes with a lot of food is an understatement. Since all the dishes pretty much came out at the same time (and very quickly after we ordered), I’m assuming it’s all pre-made and just rolled out.

Had their set lunch RA menu for $20 a person. They also have the SU set menu for $15. The meal includes 12 dishes and is a good taste of their flavours. Although it looks like a lot of food (and it is sufficient don't get me wrong), it is more a sampling of each dish. Service was prompt and friendly. It is a fairly clean restaurant as well with ample space making it a comfortable dining space.

When I was here in the summer, the Korean BBQ restaurant near H-Mart was still under construction. This time around, it finally opened so it seemed like a good idea to check it out.

I wouldn't say that it was an amazing experience, but it wasn't completely horrible either. But let's just say that I don't think I'll be coming back.

First off, they don't allow reservations.

Sura at lunch is one of the best deals in town. They have 2 set menus for lunch, a $15 and a $20 one. We usually go with the $15 one and even then it’s super filling and we can never finish everything. On this particular day we weren’t feeling super hunger so we decided to order a mackerel set and a soft tofu soup.

Their lunch set menu is great. I went with a couple other people and we all ordered the set each and shared it all. There was plenty of food for all of us. I didn't think the price was too much, given the variety of things we got to eat and be filled with. Their music is way too loud and their yelling is annoying.

I came for dinner twice and once for lunch. First time I had pork bone hot pot, royal rice cakes, and japchae. The pork bone was tender and the meat fell of the bone, however, the potato chunks in the hot pot were way too huge to eat. Japchae has great flavors. Rice cakes were good but bit dry (lacking sauce). Second time I got korean army hot pot. The hot pot portion was huge and very filling with the side dishes.

I really recommend their lunch set menu. It's $15 per person for the Set Course SU, which has 10 different kinds of dishes. Or $20 per person for the Set Course RA for 12 dishes. I think the $15 is really worth it!

I love their lunch sets. So much food + good quality for the price ($15/$20 per person) I think the quality of their food is much better than other Korean BBQ places. I would recommend this place.
Pauline Vancouver
We were impressed with modern interior, so we had lunch there one day. We didn't order their lunch special, instead, we ordered our favourite Korean dishes. The seasfood was more like deep fried skinny greasy pancakes, with hardly any seafood. The bibimbak was not the best we've had. We didn't try the BBQ, but I can't see us coming back anytime soon since there are so many better Korean restaurants downtown.

Once in a blue moon, I crave Korean food and I crave it hard. If you are a local in Richmond and you've been to Aberdeen at least once in your life, you've probably seen the very, very long lineups outside of Sura on the first floor. The place always looks busy – whether lunch or dinner time – and the lines are just insane. I had never felt a strong enough urge for me to even try to stand in line for almost an hour, but on one particular day around 1:30pm, we (bubs and I) were surprised to see the place relatively empty so we decided to give it a shot.

The food came fast .the tast is great. The service is so nice.all guys here.
I by myself at 5 pm. They just opened for dinner .it is full house because Albertdeen mall is so busy too.
The food is so good here

Save your money and head out to Coquitlam at any mom and pop shop for an authentic Korean meal please. when you go to Sura, you ARE paying for the rent either at Aberdeen centre or on Robson street. so not worth it. pricey and bland. i had never eaten such tasteless and ugly looking bibimbap and japchae before :( sorely disappointed. though the organic edamame was tasty.....we laughed and sighed.

Didn't eat here, but service isn't so great. Called in 10 days early booking a table of 18 for my birthday and was told that their system cannot book for reservations until few more days since their system goes by weekly. The lady told me it will be alright and that they can manage our table, but may have to be split into two tables side by side which I was okay with. I called back a few days later and a guy answered the phone. Told him the situation and he told me he has to call the head office to see. Next day goes by, no call, then another day, no call. I called back the 3rd day after that and the same guy answered and he told me again he needs to ask the head office, so obviously he forgot. A few hours go by he calls back and told me he cannot sit our party of 18 during 7pm the time I asked for. He told me either to come at 4pm or 9pm because 7pm is too busy. I think that's pretty rude, I mean you're busy, so you can't serve our table of 18? You have guest coming in easily sitting just as much as our one party, but yet you cannot sit us? Doesn't make sense. Probably would not come back.

February 15, 2016 · by ThatShanghaiGirl · First time visiting the Richmond branch of the award winning Sura! I’ve been to the one on Robson multiple times, although I haven’t actually blogged on it (sorry!) but I have to say for the set course...

This place plays super loud night club music. They wouldn't turn it down. Crazy f#cking restaurant. Food is no good either. I definitely won't come back
Feelingfamished
Gotta admit, the 15$ per person lunch set is a great deal but be warned, there are lots of spicy dishes and there isn't much meat either. Great chance to try a lot of different things! Unfortunately the food was prepared in advanced i believe because so many people get this lunch deal that it came super fast and was a bit room temperature at times. THEIR RICE CAKES ARE THE BEST THOUGH. CHEWY WITH A PERFECT SAUCE. EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT.....

I recently re-visited the Sura Korean BBQ located on the first floor of Aberdeen. They serve up authentic Korean cuisine and samgyeopsal and there are always line ups at the front. My first visit here wasn't great at all so I was quite skeptical giving them a second chance. This was my first post on them.

Went there with my family for my birthday. The service was AMAZING. Better than i could ever expect, considering my less than impressive service from all korean restaurants i've been to before. The servers were quick, remembered everything we asked for and the food and portions were great. My only complaint was that there was a large birthday party sitting next to us and they were drinking and being very loud and swearing. We asked the server if she could tell them to stop swearing and keep it down. She apologized to us and said she already asked them to but they were getting out of hand. So when the noise escalated again i had to look over and yell myself. That was unpleasant but not the restaurants fault. Everything else was great! Highly recommend!

Came here for dinner to celebrate my sisters birthday. Ill weigh out the pros and cons:

PROS:
- yummy braised beef short ribs
- servers change grills quite often
-appetizers include fish!

CONS:
- a server that works there who brought us our food doesn't put our food down or makes room for it on the table. She stands there and waits for you to make room for her to put the dish down. Every. Single. Time.
- tea tastes like water
- very loud restaurant
- took away our tea after we finished our meal but didn't pay yet

Overall: food=7.5/10, service=5/10
J and I have been craving Korean cold noodles because of the hot weather these days. And finally we made it to Sura today for a perfect food combination, the Galbi and Cold Noodles! Here is a previous review about Sura if you want to know more about other food offerings.

Make reservation ONE WEEK in advance for Friday, Saturday & Sunday dining!. Oh no, just found out Sura requires customer to make reservation ONE WEEK in advance for Friday, Saturday & Sunday dining!
Shall we go somewhere else instead ??? Please recommend a few for us.......

Great service, excellent food.. Was very reluctant to try this place because of the low rating, but finally decided to try it. Was pleasantly surprised by the friendly service. Food was a little pricey but I left full and was all tasty. Will for sure come back if experience is like this again!

Sura Korean BBQ Restaurant is located on the first floor of Aberdeen Centre. By reading reviews online, it seemed like their lunch/dinner set and BBQ are the popular ones. Since we wanted to try a variety of food, we ordered a mix of BBQ and other staple Korean dishes. BEEF TONGUE ($15) tasted alright but not the best quality I've tried so far. As the servers do not constantly take care of your meats, you need to pay attention not to overcook or burn it...
Comfortwithyou
Amazing service. I came here around 1 pm on a Wednesday. It wasn't packed but there were still a lot of people. Our server was very kind and helped us grill the meat and refill our drinks without us needing to ask. He also did other things such as spoon soup into our bowls and cut our meat. The service was excellent and he seemed very friendly. The food is pricey but it was worth every bite. I would definitely come again.

Great Service. Our server Daniel was really sweet and fulfilled all our requests with a smile. We got the korean army hot pot and the portion was a lot bigger than expected! Food was yuuuuuummy :D

Arrogance and impolite treatment of customers is not allowable no matter how good you feel that your food is.. I have put this review elsewhere, but I thought I would share it here on Urbanspoon as well.

We have enjoyed the food at this restaurant in the past, but the service and staff are awful. Today was the last straw. My girlfriend, who is Korean, phoned them up to make a reservation. I listened in on the conversation. The woman on the phone was incredibly arrogant and simply rude. She seemed to take issue with the fact that English is my girlfriend's second language (although she speaks it very fluently) and kept cutting her off and not allowing her to ask questions. The general attitude of the person on the phone was impatient and snooty. At the end of the conversation she concluded by making a point of saying "and PLEASE be sure not to be late" in a tone akin to someone talking down to a misbehaving child. I immediately phoned back and told them to cancel the reservation and then booked in elsewhere. They weren't interested in why.

Restaurants need to learn not to get self-important and haughty with customers as the hospitality industry is based upon making the customer feel that their money is being well spent and to ensure that they enjoy the experience. It shouldn't be a struggle to be treated nicely. The food is very good but being treated in a disrespectful and demeaning manner is never acceptable. I would suggest that anyone who feels the same way should avoid this place.

Dinner. Very bad service

Real Korean BBQ. Had a great time with friends at this restaurant. Awesome meat quality and their Korean BBQ was real. Except BBQs, I "can" recommend their galbi jjim, Korean army hot pot and jap chae from what we had last night. And I can see ppl's complain about this restaurant's service here on urbanspoon and yeah their service were not perfect. At least they didn't charge us for the wrong menu, so there's that.

Good food, bad service. Th.... Good food, bad service.
They force kids to order full adult dish.
They busy restaurant and they don't want kids taking up seats. Greedy operation.
Fred
Looks yummy, but did not try, they require each person to order a dish. Our family don't eat that much, normally just order 2-3 to share. My two girls don't eat much.
Kawaii.kellyl
Amazing !. Came in for the first time with my family of 4 not exactly sure what to expect and was not sure of what to order. Through a normals person point of view I do say the items are a little over priced but then you think about how expensive meats are. The service was amazing the lady who served us told us what was best goes with what and what would fill us up and would be right for my sister as she likes noodles more than anything , she even cut the some of the meat so my sister could eat the meat ( as she is 4 years old she was very nice). They also gave us complimentary basa fish. The staff always checks up on our table to makesure everything is alright. Will definitely come back when im in richmond again. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Reservations are not upheld!. BEWARE! This restaurant does not respect reservations!
I have been to Sura at the Richmond location twice and both times I had a positive attitude to the restaurant, even though the food is overpriced.

After today, I will never go back! I made a reservation 4 days in advance for a party of 10 to celebrate my birthday as well as a last get together before a few of my friends leave for their practicums. As my party and I arrived at the restaurant, they sat us at a table that was obviously too small to fit. Even with our shoulders scrunched up against each other, only 6 could fit, and we are all fairly thin. One of my friends arrived early and a server had told him that the table could fit 10 people. Later, another server looked at the table dismissively and stated, "No, that cannot fit 10 people at all."

The manager was called out and we explained to her our ordeal. She did nothing to solve the issue. Only to repeatedly tell us that there was no way to fit 10 people. All she could say was, "If you are okay with this, I am okay with this :)" What exactly does that do to solve our predicament? Then, she followed with saying that I had originally called to reserve for only 6 people, while looking at what she said to be the reservation list. How can a reservation for 10 people become for only 6 people? The numbers do not sound remotely similar...Later I asked her to confirm my telephone number, as the server who had taken my reservation had asked for it. She was unable to do so, and instead went to the back before being able to repeat my number. If she had the reservation list, why did she have to go to the back in order to check my number?

She then explained that they would have never taken a 10 person reservation because they simply cannot take that number of people. Really? There were 10 just in the back. If you don't have room at the moment in the restaurant, then just tell us in a straightforward manner that you cannot serve 10 people at the moment. We left and went to Woe Mo Jib where we received excellent service, food and a whole dining room to ourselves. We will never go back to Sura!

Team lunch set course RA here. Finally visited Sura Richmond by mistake -- sans a schedule (:p), and wasn't disappointed. Braised beef short ribs, steamed pork belly & herbs, sweet & sour pork, and sweet potato noodles. All my favourites are here at one place. What a great lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed and transformed into another happy belly. Modern yet refined atmosphere. Service left some to desire.

Great addition to the Richmond Korean dining scene. So satisfying in terms of quality. We (me, my girl friend and her mother to be exact) tried premium royal galbi + yuja beef tartar + japchae + mul naeng myun + soy bean paste soup for this first visit to the new Korean BBQ place in Aberdeen mall, and a good thing is we all seemed satisfied. For myself, yuja beef tartar was the best. The freshness and quality of meat were top-notch and the taste and scent of yuja - 香橙 - were perfectly matched with the beef. The service can be improved, to say the least. It was a very busy Saturday night but the waitress was not terribly attentive. Probably will come back just with my girl friend though to try their lunch specials. A great addition to the Richmond Korean dining scene.

Premium Royal Galbi, Royal Marinated Galbi, Herb Pork Belly, and Yuja Beef Tartar were simply phenomenal.. The first thing first. I believe they would need to adjust their business hours. This fairly new Korean BBQ restaurant is located in Richmond where a lot of people love to dine out even at the late night. It's not my opinion I'm afraid. To people who have even a little knowledge, it's, like, a fact. :p Just saying. The restaurant's last call for dinner is ... 9pm. Well, for some restaurant in Downtown Vancouver, it is acceptable but for one in Richmond, I think they are in desperate need of extending the last call time slot. If we didn't call ahead, probably we would have found out the restaurant is closed for the day when we got there. Lunch last call seems fine. They open for lunch till 4pm but they said the last call for lunch is 3pm. Hm.

And the second: Service. The waitress for our table was ... not delicate in handling dishes. And she's got the order mixed. *facepalmed* She seemed not well trained in fact. Sorry but the situation's rightfully call for a better training.

The third: the atmosphere is good! There are restaurants for family dinners. Then there are restaurants for dinners with friends or social gatherings. SURA Korean BBQ would be the latter for me. The restaurant presents a great interior decor in an architectural sense. All the characters of space sends out a vibe of efficiency and addresses concerns for such. Hard to find this kind of set up in Metro Vancouver area. I know it is a big claim but to me it is.

Finally the food. This is a Korean BBQ restaurant. If I have wanted to try great Korean food, I would have gone to any of the good ones in Downtown instead of making a sort of long trip to Richmond. So? Fantastic news, guys. The meat quality and the marinara are excellent! And I must say my guess is that the chef knows how to marinate beef in an authentic Korean style. Well, it sounds almost like it's given. But a sad thing is that I have experienced one too many times awkwardly marinated Galbi or not-so-great quality beef ribs at so-called Korean BBQ restaurants. Not just here Metro Vancouver areas. Premium Royal Galbi (Premium Beef Short-ribs sans marination), Royal Marinated Galbi, Herb Pork Belly, and Yuja Beef Tartar were simply phenomenal. Yes, they are a tad more expensive than other Korean restaurants in the neighbourhood offer but I guess it's worth trying when you can. And for Japchae, Beef Rice Cakes, and the Pork Bone Hot Pot we tried, we were OK with them but my friends and I agreed that this restaurant's versions are a bit too westernized.

So~ Would I go back? Hm ... when I crave Korean BBQ, it's a firm yes. But when I just want some Korean food? I think I'll stick with its branch on Robson Street.

Actually one of the first things my friends told me after moved back to Vancity was there's this new SURA located in Richmond and we can have Table-grilled BBQs there. Oh yeah? So we went.

The bad things first.: thee wait staff's service ranges. Or at least it seemed that way. A waitress who has been assigned to our table was extremely friendly and super efficient. But I could tell that some of other waitresses were not completely well-trained.

Thankfully the BBQs are excellent here. More precisely, the meat quality and the marinara density are both great. Premium Royal Galbi, Royal Marinated Galbi, and Beef Tongue were what we tried, and even compared to my favourite Korean BBQ restaurants in other cities, Kookjae Sootbul BBQ in San Fran and Miss Korea BBQ in NYC, they could come out as a winner. Great job, SURA. Well done you.

There was no surprise with Herb Pork Belly, the very well known SURA special and my favourite at the Robson location.: It is still great here. And so is Yuja Beef Tartar. But unfortunately I prefer Beef Short-rib Soup and Beef Soft Tofu Soup at the Robson over the counter part they serve here in Richmond.

But their additional menu items that the Robson location doesn't carry were what really got me interested.: the Hot Pots and $200/Person Dinner Set-Course, anyone? I shall come back for those later on again. *Evil Laughs*

Three Words: Premium Royal Galbi. After a long and tedious discussion, we decided to hit Korean BBQ. In this weather? Eh, why not. Because Korean BBQ? Haha. But which one? I've already been to one on empire Centre and many times to the one on #3. Being girls who like pretty things, not surprisingly enough (or typical enough? hoohoo), we went for SURA Korean BBQ restaurant this time.

For too hungry we were, we just ended up ordering a bunch of BBQs, Cold Buckwheat Noodles and beer pitchers (Summer!!!): Premium Royal Galbi (to some people who are not familiar with Korean BBQ, this comes WITHOUT marination!) was, is, and will be my most favourite! I thought the marinara sauce for Royal Marinated Galbi was simply top-notch great, and yes I understand, to most people, the marinated BBQ is Korean BBQ, but. But in a traditional sense of great BBQ (and imho of course), nothing tastes better than real premium quality beef BBQ. Beef Tongue, Galbi-Jjim and Royal Galbi (We had to order plain Royal Galbi cause they ran out of the premium one) were good too.

The price wise, mind you, this restaurant honestly is on the side of being expensive. So, decide accordingly. And although we had to waive silly a couple of times to get the wait staff's attention (I guess it's all the same at busy Asian restaurants?? Bad trend if you ask me.), we were just glad that they served cold buckwheat noodles after asking our decision around time we were almost done with BBQs. At some restaurants, they will bring them out in the middle of BBQing. Without asking. And that's just wrong.

What Authentic Korean Cuisine has to offer. Let me just say this before saying anything further: This kind of lunch set for $15 is a bloody steal. I wanted to say that first before I mess up my review. Haha.

Sura Korean BBQ restaurant is a newly opened Korean restaurant in Richmond Aberdeen Centre with fairly modern decor for a Korean restaurant in Metro Vancouver area. If you are frequent to Korean restaurant scene in town, you should know what I'm trying to say. The most restaurants are passable enough with their food quality, but they are not the kind of places you'd want to take out your girl friend or boy friend to. This one though is comfortably close to that criteria. Everything felt well prepared from seats to grills. Actually I preferred this one's open and modern interior to that of Sura Robson location. It's a definite up-point to me.

Now, to the things that matter more: Their menu, more precisely the food's taste and quality. This is obviously my first time to try this restaurant -- although I've been to Sura Robson quite often -- so probably consciously I went with a safer choice: Sura Lunch Set Course. It's $15. Fifteeeeen. Tuna Tacos at Milest*nes will cost you the same. See my point? For the price, you will have 11 to 12 small-portion Korean dishes. Yes, I tend to agree with the opinion that they are more of samplers than tapas. But calling these dishes simply samplers just doesn't do justice. At the end of the meal, you will feel generously satisfied with the portion. Besides, this is for lunch.

Another good thing of having this set course is that you could enjoy variety that the authentic Korean Cuisine has to offer. Some of my friends from UK are often wondering if there's more to the cuisine culture than BBQ and Soups. This set course is a perfect opportunity where they can experience Korean Cuisine other than having just grilled meats and steamed rice. There are this Spicy Squid Salad, Mung Bean Jelly, crowd-pleaser Grilled Beef Rib-eye, Korean style Sweet & Sour Pork, Grilled Croaker, my all time favourite Herb Pork Belly, and Korean's dinner staples, Soybean Paste Soup.

The quality-wise; Isn't there a saying that the busy restaurant never serves gone-bad food? No time for food materials in Kitchen to go bad. But this is a VERY busy restaurant. At least many lunch times I've passed by. So, probably the finish of their dish-served would be hit-or-miss. Luckily this time my girl friend and I tried, everything was just great.

If you live or work close by and happen to enjoy Korean food, having your lunch at this Korean restaurant in Aberdeen Mall is a no-brainer. There, I said it.

Glabi jjim was near perfect!. For a monday night dinner, it was quite a trip from downtown. we even lost once! if they didn't take a reservation, probably we had to go back. kkk

first ordered green salad, glabi jjim, and kimchi pork soup, but ended up ordering another one (japchae). maybe because we were of dead empty stomach or maybe the portion was not that great for us hungry girls.

glabi jjim was near perfect though. the combination of meat tenderness and its sauce gave such a great taste. i would say it was even better than the equivalent one that they serve in their robson location.

my friend's favourite, japchae was not bad either, although we almost ordered something else because they (:D) said the dish here in this location was not as good as what they serve in downtown. mmm, i guess all it comes down to personal preference. to me it was a little bit leaning towards too sweet side but that could be just nitpicking. kimchi pork soup and salad were ok i guess but nothing to write home for.

the atmosphere and service? okay~ not that bad as some have said imho. i'd say i'd come back when i'm in town to try bbqs. after all it was great!

Good food but no Class. Went there for my birthday on 5th June, 2014. The ambience was good, waitress was friendly and showed us to our table. At 7pm there appeared to be plenty available, but the restaraunt filled by 8pm.
The Menus are clear, legible with pictures. The attending waiter was attentive but appeared to be a part time student, by his behaviour, not rude but not exactly a fountain of knowledge.
We ordered appetizers and entres, at least that's what was stated on the Menu.
To our surprise everything came together, with the entres, coming first. We queried the Head Waitress who said that was the Korean custom. According to my wife the procedure was different in the Vancouver Location. Not wising to argue to ate and the food was quite tasty, nothing extraordinary, but palatable.
At the end of the meal it was time to serve my burthday cake which my wife had purchased. Imagine our surprise when it was brought out in same box with the ribbon still attached. They had no cutting knife, cake server or candle. The box was just dumped on the table politely.
In conclusion the food was pleasant but the Restaraunt needs a lesson in etiquette or its just the Korean custom.
I would recommend it for a casual meal, nothing fancy but definitely not for special occasions.

Probably go back again for marinated Galbi alone!. I've been going to its sister restaurant on Robson, but I was kind of wary of coming this new Korean BBQ place because... one of my rules is do not dine in at a recently opened place. Hm, a bunch of bored BBQ loving girls on a Saturday evening do, what can we do.

We ordered Galbi, marinated Galbi, Galbi-Jjim, Pork Jowl (did I mention we're BBQ lovers? :o), Potato Pancake, Kimchi Soups and Seafood Soft Tofu Soups. And I can say meat quality and marinated Galbi's marinara tasted simply right. I'd probably go back again for marinated Galbi alone! Potato Pancake I had on the Robson location was my favourite but this one, not so much. My friends seemed to be enjoying ok, but it was a bit too oily for me. The soups were ok, I guess. Although its smaller portion of food than other Korean places serving makes this restaurant a tad expensive, I liked its good BBQ and clean & modern atmosphere. But then again hopefully I would have someone to pay my bill next time. Harhar~

No value!!!. So cheap on incredient...The chef has some issue to put enough material to make fabulous korean food miserable. He needs proper training as well as servers & a greeter. Long way to get customers satisfied. Customers deserve to have delicious food & service.

Lacking. We went here for lunch, attracted by the ambience and the layout of the restaurant. We came out underwhelmed....the presentation of the food is very nice, but the food itself is lacking....it is either too spicy, too dry or has no taste, and after spending $50 we went away hungry. This should not happen in Richmond! this place will probably not last long.
1de1deponpon
Expensive. The price they charge for doesn't match the quantity of the food you get, we spend 65$ tip included and still left hungry. Even thou the meat quality is exceptional, taste is lacking, will not come back again.

Tiny servings, ridiculous prices, terrible service. Food tastes okay though. Will not be going back to this place. Ever.

Not recommendable.. Despite reviews saying this place is not recommended, we still decided to try it. Of course, the reviews were right! There's a number of reasons I didn't like this restaurant, here being a few:

- price of the meat was cheaper on the menu on their website than when we got to the actual restaurant
- the waiters checked in on us every few minutes to take control of grilling the meat, it got excessive
- bbq meat was extremely overpriced for the amount, only 12 pieces were $28
- there wasn't potato as side dish, which is usually well-liked
- the salad was $8
- overall, our bill came to $80 for 2 people. Neither of us were very full. On the credit card machine, there was only 15% as a tip option, which came to $12. In total, we spent $92 for a meal that was mediocre. The quality of the food was okay, but the size and the price just didn't do justice. Will not revisit.

Over price. Food is so so. Price is higher than average. Service has lots of room to improve (don't mix the use of utensils between the cooked and raw food for your customers please. When you put down the utensils in front of your customers, try to be gentle.) Not recommend and will not try again
Wenjing624
Poor service, poor food for the price. I don't mind paying more for good food and service, but this place just not worth their price. Lunch for two was about $50, with pretty much no service, no one had checked on us, and the only thing our waiter said to us the whole time was "here you go" when he give us the check, and nothing else.

The food was about average, the kind you can get from food court, the portion is small. There're only 3 side dishes, and took them 15 min to bring them out (they were not busy at all!).

For this price, I would go somewhere nicer.
Nick
Place is total rip off for the price. Came here for lunch, the portions are tiny, food was sub par at best. AVOID if possible

Disappointing.... My family and I were excited to eat at Sura. We have eaten Korean BBQ elsewhere, so we had high expectations. It turned out to be a disappointing experience. The menu offers the usual Korean fare you would find elsewhere, except the prices are higher, but not necessarily yummier. I would highly recommend people to not order the set menu ($15/person or $26/person), as it is not worth it. Everyone must order the same set and the dishes are small (1 really small pot of soup to be shared by all - the spoon was almost as big as the pot!) and not that tasty. We thought there would be more BBQ dishes, but no, lots of random cheap dishes (ie. potato pancake with no seafood or anything else in it). Service was poor, inefficient and rushed. No host/hostess to greet people at the front, no/rushed explanations of menu items, snobby Korean attitude and had to call waitress to refill drinks & etc. Currently, people are curious about this new Korean BBQ restaurant, but I guarantee there will few people patronizing it in a couple of months, unless changes are made.

It's so far the worst korean place I have had in Vancouver. Ordered the pancake,it had no taste and very small compare to other places. We ordered a japchae, the noodles are soooo hard that I thought it wasn't completely cooked. Both dishes came 3 mins after we ordered and both are not hot. Then we had three bbq dishes. There were only 6 on the menu. The choices are three different beef ribs and two different pork and a beef tongue. Asked what are the differences in the ribs. Two are exactly the same except one marinated and one not. One is 10 bucks more and the server just said., different meat. The pork we got were like as thick as 1 inches. Again no taste to it. The beef tongue was 12 thin slices for 15 bucks. And it was very very chewy. The rice. .. I was at leat hoping korean rice usually never disappoint me. It wasn't very sticky and it not hot again. All the side dishes are not the popular ones. Overall, very disappointing dinner. Will not go again. I think I had much better food even in the food court upstairs.

Nice place n good service. We ordered the Royal Galbi, Royal Pork Galbi n seafood pancake. All are above our expectation. No reservation n hve to line for over 30 minutes. Will go there again.

Decent food but pricey. Went for dinner with my friend. Took us around 15 mins to get a table, which wasn't that bad for a Saturday night. Took a look at the menu and realized that the dishes were pretty pricey. We ordered rice cakes, a seafood pancake, and a small size hotpot. The total was $70 excluding gratitude.

I would say the service was decent, especially for a Korean restaurant. One of the waitresses checked on us 3 times to make sure everything was okay. Price was a bit too high for the quality of food.

Overpriced...food is good but way too expensive, not worth to try because you can get the exact same food somewhere else with lower price

Worst Dining Experience EVER!!!!!. Ridiculously overpriced! Ordered a order of pork jowl and it was not marinated, you can get the exact same raw meat from any supermarket. Staff were unfriendly and obviously inexperienced. Worst dining experience ever and won't go back again!
Macyeats
The lunch set for $15 includes this pork belly dish. It was the only thing I remember because it had a nice flavour from the sharp acidic pickled vegetables to cut the fatty richness of pork belly. We also ordered meat for BBQing. Portions were really small, and the price was really jacked up for some reason. I guess this is considered korean "fine-dining"?

Sura Korean BBQ is located inside Aberdeen Centre in Richmond. Sura is definitely leaning towards in becoming a high end restaurant, aiming to represent the luxury side of Korean cuisine. Their grand opening was just a few months ago with less than a year in business. We called to make a reservation on a Saturday night and they said they don’t take reservations. There was a line when we arrived around 7:30pm but it was not long. There’s probably only 3-5 tables ahead of us. The wait was short (considering this is a BBQ place which normally people take their time). We got our table within 35-40 minutes. What I must point out is the environment. It is super clean and tidy considering this is a BBQ place. Maybe because the place is still new? But it definitely shouts decent date night/ decent hangout place to me. Each table has its own BBQ stove. If you’re wondering what that metal thing on the table is… That is a sprinkler for the BBQ stove in case of fire. Usually they are above each ta

A newly open Korean BBQ Restaurant in Abeerden Centre. I was quite surprise that the place was big. I love Korean food that I asked my Aunt to eat lunch with me. We were greeted by one of the staff as we entered the restaurant. Line up was a little bit long so we have to wait. After 15 minutes we finally got a table. Our table was very clean and our server arrange the plates and utensils for us while we check the menu. Appetizers came in! Usually in some Korean restaurants they serve it while waiting for the food to arrive. Here they serve these along with food. Yummy Kimchi and Sweet Squash:) Beef Tongue with Lettuce We decided to order beef tongue. Maybe we got tired of always eating pork or chicken BBQ. When this was served to us my reaction was like “oh wow this look so fancy”. Presentation wise it was very good. Looking a it makes you more hungry. On the side they put some mushrooms and white onions. Each table has their own BBQ grill. The thinly sliced beef tongue shrink when we

Sura is like a beautiful gold digger luring unsuspecting men with her deliciously good looks. However, rather than being a sweetly scented flower, Sura is actually a venus fly trap. Prepare to empty your wallets, ladies and gentlemen!

This is my first request post. I love it when someone invites me to visit their favourite restaurant, and I in turn am able to give an insightful review on it. I have not lighten my opinions, nor have I steered my writing in any way. Like myself this is written in utter honesty, the only way I know how to be and how to write. We almost didn’t get past the congested underground parking of Aberdeen Mall. Tight corners, tighter stalls, intersections with no rules, and pedestrians who didn’t care where they walked. It has certainly lost my future business. I was stuck behind a stop sign waiting for the endless line of cars entering and exiting. Neither rows allowing a parked car to reverse from its stall. The term gong show came to mind. When we finally stopped, a lengthly walk around the newer, still spacious mall was required in search for our lunching destination. We wished for a mall directories readily available between busy crossroad. The restaurant’s entrance was through the mall. A
Long Live Feasts
Rather than the home-cooking approach most Korean restaurants tend to emulate, Sura categorizes themselves as a high-end chain, keeping the basic staples but in a more attractive environment. Reading reviews online, I was apprehensive that the staff would be lacklustre, but in my experience, they were pleasant and efficient. For me, my favourite aspect was how they didn’t shield the light with curtains, as the sun made the space inviting, almost like I was out on a patio. Certainly for large parties, I can understand the cramp seating because of the cramped seating, but for me, the compactness seems like a great opportunity for bonding. Though I am not one to dictate wether they serve authentic Korean or not since I haven’t tried my fa

This was the Galbi-Jjim which was braised beef short ribs and it was served with a lot of roasted squash. The short ribs were on a really big bone and it was just tender enough. Maybe it could’ve been marinated a bit longer for more flavour but I wish I had more of this! This was the large size but it looks smaller in real life. I also liked the squash with the sauce.
Every Day Is A Food Day
First, we were given some complimentary side dishes. The only dish I liked was the Kimchi. The other was a chili chive, which is too strong for my liking, but J loved. The third was some sort of marinated mushroom, which was alright. Yukhoe J introduced me to something that frightened me a bit at first, but I later found delicious. It’s called Yukhoe , and is essentially the Korean version of steak tartar. It’s made from high quality raw ground beef and is seasoned with various

Sura Korean Royal Cuisine Restaurant is a new second location to their 1518 Robson St location. The new Sura Korean BBQ is clean and spacious. It took over the space from Tropika Malaysian Restaurant 星馬印. Tropika is now located beside Toys R Us in Lansdowne Mall. During lunch the restaurant is packed but food came promptly and the service was friendly.
Eating With Kirby
There is a new Korean restaurant at Aberdeen (in Richmond) that just recently opened up and I went with a couple of friends to check it out. It replaced the old Tropika (which I'm still sad about) and completely renovated the interior. They have a lunch special which is a set menu consisting of all the items below. It seemed like a pretty sweet deal because you get about 15 different items for 15 bucks. Here is a closer look at exactly what was included in the set menu that we chose. We went with the Course SU ($15) . Our Daily Congee and Green Salad was quite unamusing. The congee was favoured with red bean which was kind of cool but weird at the same time. I quite liked the Mung Bean but most of my friends didn't particularly enjoy them. They just taste like gelatin strips with sesame oil. The Sweet and Sour Pork didn't have enough sauce and wasn't crispy on the outside. The Spicy Squid Salad was INCREDIBLY spicy and had barely any squid. We also had a couple of Banchans (little si

Emily, Lorna, Marian and I got together again after a few months not seeing each other. We decided to try the new Sura Korean BBQ at Aberdeen Mall. The setting is traditional Korean with cushion bench and metal cutleries. We ordered the $15 set (minimum 2 orders) and a Ginseng Chicken Soup to share among 4 or us. However, the server insisted that we ordered another item since there were 4 or us. So, we added a Japchae. The above were from the set; congee, salad, deep fried pork strip salad and a kind of cold noodle salad. Still from the set; griledl Mackerel (quite small); pork belly; bulgogi and tofu soup (small bowl).
