Review The Sweet Spot Bakery - Richmond

Rahim
This is really a sweet spot for the delicate sweet taste. Fine pastry is the way I would describe their pastries. It's a cozy shop so it's for to go only. Cheese smoked salmon croissant is one of the few tasty savory bakes. The peach danish and pecan bread are really good. Friendly staff and elegant presentation

COVID protocols in place. One person taking your order and another getting your baked goods. We went almost around closing so there weren't many pastries left. Staff was super nice, quick and attentive. The lemon meringue tart was my favourite (also one of their more popular items). The lemon curd was nice and tart and the meringue helped cut through the tartness perfectly. The tart itself was the perfect texture as it broke with adequate force. Would order it again. The cheesecake was definitely outshone by the tart. The cheesecake was okay but not my favourite. Can't wait to go back and try their other goods.

A nice bakery with both sweet and savory quality products. Tried their sun dried tomato, spinach, and feta quiche. It tasted very rich and good, but also a bit on the oily side. I guess its a once in a while treat.

A lovely bakery for croissants. Love their savory croissant sandwich for weekend brunch. Their seasonal scone is fantastic, especially with clotted cream that you can get from the British specialty shop across the street.

My husband and I have been going to this bakery for 3 years since we moved into Richmond. I’m not sure if ownership has changed during this time, but the quality of the desserts and baked goods have gone downhill. Just bought 2 blueberry danishes today and there was literally less than 1 mm of custard, just lots of pastry which didn’t seem freshly baked. It’s unfortunate to see the quality end up like this.

Delicious savoury and sweet treats! Only thing that would make my experience better would be a couple tables and chairs outside and the option for an iced coffee. Other than that I highly recommend :)

The smoked salmon croissant was very good. The fruit and lemon tart were so beautiful. Thank you.

I’m in Steveston Village for a week and accidentally bumped into this patisserie while exploring the area, I made a goal to try everyday something for the next 7 days ; so far I had the Madelaine, quiche, chocolate chip cookie and croissants, everything fabulous, it taste as delicious as it looks!! Note that they do not take credit cards ; cash or debit only.

Went to this place based on so many good reviews. However, to my disappointment, everything was overly sweet to my liking. Will not be returning.

This is one of my TOP 10 bakeries in Richmond and you cannot miss it!Sweet Tooth at "The Sweet Spot".Love their lemon tart and the french baking are to die for. Other than the beautiful presentation and tasty of the baked goods, the shop smells so good! The pleasant smell of the baked goods being made there. You can see the ovens and bakers next to the counter. If you have lunch or dinner plans in the Steveston neighborhood, highly recommended to drop by to buy few pieces of baked goods to go!MUST EAT: Lemon Tart, Eclairs

I give two stars because they do not match my expectation since their reviews are that good. They do not have as many items available as in the picture that is posted on their website nor as in the reviews; the whole second shelf of the desserts' fridge is empty. So I just bought a mousse cake and a frangipane tart to try.

The mousse cake is layer with dark choco. sponge, caramel mousse, milk choco. mousse, sour cherry mousse, and the bottom is hazelnut crunch biscuit. The mousse is close to a cream texture; it can be less sweetened with stronger flavour instead. The taste of the dark choco. sponge is similar to the one in supermarket. Only the hazelnut crunch biscuit base is good but still can be less sweetened. The rhubarb frangipane tart tastes just like an ordinary tart that you can get it elsewhere - almond filling with pieces of rhubarb on top with pistachio bits. The tart skin can be less browned. Overall, I would say the price is just for the fancy look of the desserts and the location - Steveston.

When I went in, there was no one there and I saw the small sign 'Please ask for service' on the freezer door. A moment later a man looked out from the back and said, "There's customer" and he disappeared. He then looked out again after a moment and he said hi as I looked at him and he said, "Someone will be right with you." A girl came out after a moment and she served with smile and said thanks at the end, and they gave silver plastic fork to customer instead of the regular plastic forks. However, I don't think I would go back because I was disappointed with the selection that were available, and I expected better quality of their desserts with their prices.

The only bakery in Steveston that offers a variety of good French baking.
I have here pistachio Madeleine's and apple danish. Found the apple Danish a bit on the dry side.

Love this sweet little place. I love the friendliness i receive from the staff every time i visit them. Love their cakes and the french macarons are to die for. Especially their Passionfruit macarons. Everything's great in this store!

Delectable, delicate, delicious. Artisan cakes, sweets, pastries and deserts. Knowledgeable, friendly and (rightly so) proud patisserie chefs. My only complaint would be they need more seating as we couldn't enjoy our treats sat down.

The Sweet Spot. This place is an amazing value! The quality of the products is second to none and the prices are very competitive. Well worth the drive to Steveston and you can grab some fish and chips while you're there :)

Sweet spot hit the spot !. Met some friends in steveston and had some time to kill so we stuck our noses in here to see what all the blather was about on the blogs, it was late and they were low on product but we stuck half a dozen into a box and went off to a movie , got at about ten pm having left our treats in the back of our hot car{a nice day} for almost 7 hours . well not so pretty but wow the depths of flavour was outstanding!!! we recently had a few items from Thomas Haas and really enjoyed it however this was hell on wheels competition for Chef Haas ! have to go back to each just to compare... all i can say is terrific worth the drive from surrey just go early so they are not almost sold out !!!

Sweet desserts. After our Mother's day lunch, we drove down to Steveston just to drop by this small bakery. Although we were hoping more "moist cake" than mousse type, their desserts were delicious! The fact that majority of their pastries were not too sweet, I give them a lot of credit. Try the tiramisu. Marscapone cream with coffee soaked lady fingers is light enough for after a meal. Eclair with salted caramel gives enough "salty" flavour to balance out the chocolate custard.

Great desserts!. My friend bought a couple sweets from this bakery for two friends' birthday and they all tasted very good. I haven't visited this bakery myself yet but will sure do so in the near future.

Sweetest couple!!! I drive all the way from Vancouver for the coconut macaroons. Keep up the great work!

Hidden gem of steveston. The only thing small here is the bakery itself, small, quaint and cozy.

The food, wether it be the baked goods, soups or sandwiches are the best thing in Steveston aside from the fresh air and sea food. The staff was very friendly and cafe' was clean as well. 10/10

Sweet Spot, Organic Chicken Lentil soup. I joined a line-up of happy customers and ordered take out chicken lentil soup. It was perfection with big pieces of organic chicken and so much flavour. Their German apple cake with homemade - yes they make homemade ice cream - is truly divine. Everything is a solid 10/10.

So good!. Great desserts and great value. the caramel chocolate mousse is milk chocolate heaven, and the lemon tart filling was the perfect balance of sweet and tart (would have liked more meringue though - it looks pretty with just the little swirl, but i'm a big meringue fan). they also have house made ice cream - the mint chocolate chip is fantastic - clean mint taste and with thousands of little dark chocolate shards throughout.
Always Hungry
Finally the real deal is available in Steveston. The food here, whether its pastries, sandwiches, soups, or prepared meals are always good, and I mean very good. I am a total foodie, and have travelled far from home to get tnat amazing dessert, or surperb meal, but thanks to The Sweet Spot, I dont need to travel downtown anymore. In fact its better than what I usually got downtown, and even at a better price.

Every miniature cake is a delight. We bought six different "mini cakes" and each held their own in the battle of tastes. From the lightest chocolate mousse cake topped with gooey caramel, to the rich bitterness of the dark chocolate cake. Textures, shapes, colours, and flavours differed from one bite to the next, each combined to create a unique creation. With enough effort, we were able to divide each of these desserts into six pieces so that each member of our party could taste each one.

I would recommend these miniature cakes to anybody looking to taste a dessert without having to buy the full slice. Simply marvelous.

Oh my...yum!!. I'm a dessert hound. Scratch that...I'm a dessert connoisseur! I travel far and wide for a great dessert, and my hubby jokes that I only remember the desserts of great restaurants, rather than the actual main courses. Discovering the Sweet Spot (in my own back yard, even), was a dream come true. Homemade icecreams, exceptional pastries, cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, soups... this ain't no garden variety bakery...this is serious stuff! We had a chocolate ganache cake made for a family event - it was the talk of the night! The quality of the chocolate was supreme, and the presentation (gold painted chocolate pieces adorning the side, chocolate spirals and fresh fruit on top) was first class.

Don't even get me started on the macaroons which have now surpassed the quality of Granville Island. Leaves 'em in the dust, actually.

Customer service was also exceptional. The owners are incredibly friendly and chatty, taking time to patiently explain all of the desserts, holding obvious pride in their skills.

Run - don't walk - to this place!

More than just pastries. I really enjoy the sandwiches that they make every day and love the frozen entrees that are available in the freezer. The french beef stew was amazing and today I am bringing home a roasted chicken, wild rice with hearty veg soup for dinner tonight. I love that it is soo close to my work that I can pick up something for breakfast, lunch and dinner all in one place.

The frozen entrees/soups are typically 2 portion sized and I noticed that they had ice cream available.

Super sweet Sweet Spot!. Something that I love about Steveston village is the growing number of small food establishments that are passionate about quality, service and innovation like Gudrun, Steveston Pizza Co., the Market at Papi's... Now add the Sweet Spot to the list. My husband and I stopped in last Saturday for coffee and pastries. My almond croissant was just right - flaky, buttery, the right sweetness in the almond paste. My husband had the best coconut macaroon either of us have tasted - perfectly gooey- chewy inside and caramelized outside. These sell out fast!

Since adding this review in Dec 2010 we've become regulars. Current faves include the chocolate brioche and the chocolate mousse cake with Kirsch soaked cherries. And, comme toujours, the coconut macaroons!

Christmas is coming up so I'd like to add a little note about Kirsten and Kieran's seasonal specialities: the stollen is divine and makes a wonderful hostess gift if you can manage not to eat it all yourself! We also love the hazelnut chocolate yule log. Their food artistry never ceases to really amaze us!!!
Picky Diner
All the pastries and baked goods look astonishingly beautiful and seductive here. And they taste just impeccable as they look. This time Poached Pear Frangipane caught my eye when I walked in. The pear was soft and delicate, subtle in sweetness with a hint of acidity from poaching red wine. The tart tasted a gentle touch of almond aroma, and the texture was incredible when the crust pleasantly crumbling in my mouth. If one desires a dessert that is not too sweet, this might be the most perfectly balanced choice. Ben told me that he had the most amazing éclair in Montreal, and it would be very difficult to impress him with a good éclair elsewhere. But he was impressed by the Chocolate and Caramel Eclair here and I guess that really means a lot. I really enjoyed the choux filling in the pastry, which was light but still substantial enough to bind all the luscious chocolate and caramel flavours together. Chocolate and Caramel Eclair @ Sweet Spot Bakery I wished we had bought more Madeleines. Those little seashell shaped sponge cakes were little pieces of heaven. Both pistachio and lemon flavours were brilliant.

Recently, we have discovered a hidden gem, the Sweet Spot bakery. It has been voted the Best Bakery in 2013 by Richmond Review Readers.

the sweet spot is a popular bakery in steveston, crawling with tourists and was the bakery that provided me with my little slice of birthday cake - i dont like eating whole cakes, i like variety in small slices :D. anyways, the cakes they sell are always changing but they have lots of pastries and other desserts. of the couple things we tried (sorry no pictures) the cake was THE BEST. cake: layers of chocolate cake with chocolate hazelnut mousse, raspberry gelee and white chocolate mousse (~$6): do not remember the price but whatever it was...so worth it. the layers were contrasting enough that it blended together so beautifully. something crisp on the bottom and delicious, not too sweet cake sat between layers of mousse and raspberry gelee. the white chocolate on top was the perfect touch - a light sweetness to offset the bitterness. i would get this again and again in a heartbeat 5/5 overall: MUST CHECK OUT THEIR CAKES.

... very soft yet substantial choux, making it easy to bite into the eclair; cream filling extremely creamy and the right amt of choux to filling ration; excellent balance of caramel to chocolate - truly the best in YVR...

On Canada Day, my friend and I went to Sweet Spot Bakery, located in Steveston. This place is located a bit far down the end, and I almost passed by it since it looked like a house! There is a very small seating area- the floor space includes a counter, display, fridge, and a high table with 4 chairs. Inside I really liked the simplicity of the store- green wallpaper, wooden boarded floor; it is simple, elegant, and classy. Steveston always gives off a homey feel for its residents and tourists. Glance of desserts Here is a quick snapshot of some stuff they sell. There is also a little table between this fridge and the cashier of other pastries, such as pain au chocolat and coconut macaroons. There is also a fridge that sells ice cream and French macarons. There were only two types of macarons that day- salted caramel and kalamarasi (no idea how to spell/say!) Due to the limited seating space, my friend

Giant pain au chocolat, delicate madeleines, quiches, fruit tarts, homemade ice creams, homemade soups, korean style braised chicken... and the list just goes on! What don't they serve? There's so many yummy looking desserts we end up standing there in silence (looking stupid of course) for a few minutes before deciding on...
Somerville Kitchen
The Sweet Spot Bakery (110 - 12000 1st Avenue) Highly recommended by a fellow bakeress who said " best opera cake, kalamansi white chocolate mousse cake and awesome peanut butter cookies with dark chocolate ganache. To. Die. For ." Once you are in, the display is small but packed with beautiful delicacies with poetic names such as chocolate pot de créme and citrus cheesecake. The owners added to the beauty of the place with their warmth and friendliness. I sure wish I lived closer, I could easily become both their best customer and buddy. See what's in this picture on the side? That's what I came back home with. The coconut macaroons were huge and buttery. The lemon and pistachio madeleines melted in the mouth and continued to be enjoyed for 24 hours at somerville kitchen. Oh the pleasure of sweets!
Every Day Is A Food Day
Top Left hand corner was a dark chocolate cake , that kind of had mousse in it I believe? Whatever it was, it was delicious! The bottom left hand corner was a hazelnut cake . The bottom was crunchy as it had some type of wafer at the bottom, and a few nuts (I believe they were pecans) along the bottom. Also very good, but I would choose the dark chocolate cake over the hazelnut one! On the right, we have a homemade ice cream. It's called Malted Kulfi , according to the label, and I really had no idea what it was. So I did some googling, and found that Kulfi is an Indian dessert, that is quite like western ice cream, except that it is not

From heavenly coconut macaroons to lemon madeleines, their gluten heavy choices are sure to captivate your eyes the minute you walk in. Every dessert item inside the glass case looked delectable! You can really tell each piece of cake was made with a lot of love and care. A lot of people commented about how amazing the service is here. However, on the two occasions I've visited The Sweet Spot, I actually didn't feel very invited or welcomed. The ladies (not sure if they are the owners) didn't try to help my mom and I in recommendi

The Sweet Spot Bakery is a cute little bakery that serves up some fine looking (and fine tasting) bakery items. I decided to get a variety of items including the Pistachio Madeleines, Peanut Butter Cookies with cholately filling, and Pain au Chocolat.
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
ou see, we've always refrain from western-style bakeries because the desserts tend to be too sweet for us...but not this place. I tried the coconut pastry (sorry don't know the exact name of it)...and again...it wasn't over-sweetened...it was so tasty!!!

After a long break, Polly and I managed to get together on a Saturday morning. Polly works six day week now and we do not get to meet on a week day anymore. While Ben was away, we decided to meet up on Saturday morning as Polly only starts work in the afternoon. We went to Sweet Spot Bakery in Steveston Village for it’s proximity as we had limited time only. This bakery has been on our radar for a while but we are not able to visit it as it is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We used to meet on Mondays. Sweet Spot Bakery carries items like cake, pastry, quiche and cookies. Sweet Spot Bakery has a freezer section which carries the above items. There are only 4 high chair seatings that over look the street in this little bakery. We can see Damien Belgian’s Waffles across the street mall. Coffee is self service. We had two macaroons to share. They are $1.75 each. The server recommended Salty Caramel (on the left) and Banana Cream. They were chewy with a light crunch on the outside. The salty
