Review Mega Sushi - Richmond

Andrew Pannu
Dining here before the pandemic, it’s always full, but now it’s better to dine in, when we are being seated, I saw so many take out & delivery pick up, therefore dining here is great because it’s not crowded and keep the social distancing. The food that I like is one of the appetizers “Monkey Brain”, it’s a deep fried avocado with crab meat, tuna and cheese, the lunch or dinner set is taste great, their sushi is fresh with no complaint. Anyway, I think the owner is a Korean, because it’s also have some Korean style menu, I will come back as usual cause the price is reasonable and the service is good too.

During a summer visit to the fishing village my husband and I had a wonderful meal here. We didn't do any searches and went in solely based on how popular it looked. It was packed back then and the incredibly hard working staff tried their best to accommodate us. We found the food delicious and the portions satisfying. Spicy sashimi has got to be one of the best! Godzilla bite is amazing and has huge portions!
Ruby
Sushi rolls were good but the sashimi did not taste too fresh.

Definitely one of my top favourites for sushi. I tried several other places in Richmond but they weren't nearly as good. I frequently order aburi, rolls, teriyaki and as my pictures show they are a delight to eat.

Big menu of rolls, noodles, sashimi, tempura, and more. Staff are kind and will recommend different things for you. Facilities and washroom are clean and modern. Outdoor seating is great on a sunny day. Took some sashimi home for the next day and it was still fresh after being stored in a normal fridge.

Creative sushi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️Delicious: The special sushi is delicious and worth ordering! ⭐️ Service: The servicer is very observant and will not pressure on you, which makes people enjoy and comfortable ⭐️Environment: clean and comfortable, phone appointments are currently not accepted, please walk in!

Higher quality than most sushi places in Richmond. Great share plates and the sashimi lunch set is great value for around 18$. If they have Uni (sea urchin), definitely try it.

One of my fave Japanese resto in Richmond. Their food is pretty good and the price is not too bad at all. This is my go to place in Steveston when I can't decide what to eat. Servers are pretty nice too! You just can't go wrong with this one :)

Wonderful sushi, charming casual atmosphere, attentive service. The special rolls, aburi sushi, and ebi mayo were my favorite. When I told them I had an allergy, they were very accommodating and managed it well. Really good value for the sushi too, I could tell the ingredients were very fresh. We came back twice in recent weeks.

A locals' favourite, always friendly, delicious, and affordable. Try the lunch sets for a great deal and lots of appetizing food. Donburi bowls and Bibimbap are awesome for a filling meal as well. Offers takeout which is very popular around lunch and dinner time.

Nice varied selection of lunch bentos. Everything was prepared well and super fresh. I will definitely return to try out their sushi rolls. They looked pretty interesting when I peaked over at the neighbouring table. Service was good too. Great find in Steveston! Plenty of free parking across the street too.

First visit in over an year and I notice the quality has gotten even better than before. Mega Sashimi's great and packed with a variety of fresh quality fish. The Mega Tower's also remarkable and very popular. I saw three tables near me ordering the tower so it sure seems to be their signature dish. Servers were cheerful and welcoming so the overall experience was well worthy of 5 stars.

Perfect food and service! The staff were so kind and accommodating for our large group. I absolutely LOVE their appetizers and special rolls! Everything's super delicious but the Black Cod Misoyaki, Ebi Mayo, Monkey Brain, Godzilla Bite, and Big Boss Roll deserve special mentions. Thank you Mega Sushi for being amazing!!

• Reservations a must otherwise they get really busy during evenings and weekends
• Service is awesome; servers are efficientand attentive
• Food is absolutely delicious, I feel that its Sushi California’s cousin
- their sauces are that good, you don’t have to dip it in soy sauce
- unforutnately I have a small appetite nowadays otherwise I would order more of their rolls and specials
• definitely try Mega Sushi, its on my top 5!
Beautifully presented sushi and mouth watering creative rolls. The quality, presentation, and taste are all outstanding. The patio is lovely throughout the summer and the flowers and cherry blossom tree look gorgeous and make the ambiance wonderful.

Ordered through skipthedishes to fix my sushi cravings and it totally hit the spot. Gyoza is tasty and cooked in an authentic way, not fried like many places.

Chirashi don is fairly big and has enough assorted sashimi. Fish tastes fresh and pieces aren't too thin. Sushi rice tastes good. My only complaint is the delivery took a bit too long but that's an issue with skipthedishes. Maybe next time I'll dine in.

Was disappointed by food and service. Most menu items proudly feature imitation crab. Poor Value - Rolls Very Overpriced. Over-use of Imitation Crab and Deep Fried Shavings in their rolls.

The BEST in Richmond. Photos and videos of the food are very famous on instagram and online bc presentation is spectacular!! My go to favs are Mega Tower, Godzilla Bite, and Dragon Roll 😍😍

This was my first visit to Mega Sushi in Steveston and overall it was a lovely experience. I'm not that into sushi with heavy sauces so I had the Blue Ocean Roll and it was so good. The ingredients said it's red tuna, hamachi, salmon, and avocado wrapped in soy paper so I found that to be interesting. My boyfriend on the other hand loves fusion sushi with special sauces so he had the Godzilla Bite and he said it tasted great. Pot of green tea is complimentary and it's good as well. After the meal I liked how the bathrooms had mouthwash for the customers. A little but thoughtful gesture :)

YIKES! Quantity over Quality. It's apparent to me very quickly what the gameplan is at Mega Sushi. Stack loads of cheap imitation crab meat into massive, attractively decorated rolls with pretentious, fun names "Kiss Me Roll, Yummy Yummy Roll" and charge obscene over-priced rates for it.
Their "Mega Tower" is a baseball sized scoop of fake crab with decorative sauce!
Their sashimi platter mixes farmed and wild salmon in the hopes diners don't notice or care about the difference.

Don’t know whether ownership or chef changed ?? The proportion was so little for the price especially it is located in Richmond..not downtown ..The place looks neiborhood sushi place..but price is like minami in Yaletown comparing portion and taste like any hood sushi place.. maybe lesser than what you could expected..I’d rather go to California sushi for affordability and freshness or minami and miku for taste , high end ambiance..Very disappointed this time !! Spent over $80 for nothing !!

Amazing sushi restaurant! A pal of mine that lives in the area told me this is the only sushi restaurant he goes to and we could definitely understand why! Everything we had was excellent. Mega Sushi has such a diverse menu, which includes numerous delicious dishes like Big boss roll, Godzilla bite, Steveston roll, Mega roll, and Oyster motoyaki. They're all so unique and delicious it's impossible to make a bad choice. Highly recommend visiting!

Service was really bad and food is not as good as before. The servers were extremely bad in attitude and rushed us through the whole lunch - felt like I was at a fast food chain. Will never go again.
Vanfoodie
Great quality sushi rolls with great prices to go with it! Really enjoyed my experience here and the food was presented nicely and tasted yummy!

If you’re in the area, Mega Sushi is a good choice. Sushi is fresh and the menu has a lot of unique items. Reservations are a must since this place is very small and fills up early. Service needs improvement to make this place 5 star worthy.
Torsten Rothbart
The quality is incredible but it gets crazy busy and they can't keep up. If you're doing takeout during peak times it can be 60-90 minutes for a small order, and I've waited 45 min for my food even when eating at a table. Try to hit it up outside the lunch and dinner rushes and you'll have a much better time - the food is so good that we keep going back despite the rest.

Perfect lunch at the patio with my family! The appetizers, salad, and special rolls here are on a different level. Oyster Motoyaki and Beef Carpaccio are just perfect to start off the meal. The oyster, spinach, and cheese together taste incredible and the beef carpaccio is top quality and refreshing. You can definitely tell they pay a lot of attention to their ingredients and presentation. On to the main meal, the Godzilla Bite tasted like heaven and we ended up finishing it in a couple of minutes! The rice in the Godzilla Bite was fried perfectly and the toppings and sauce made it the best dish. The salad around the godzilla bite was also delicious as they used one of the best original salad dressings I've tasted. Not to mention you can get some beautiful photos and videos thanks to the amazing presentation and fire! We also had the Fire Dragon Roll which was also on fire like the name suggests and it was remarkable as well. The roll has unagi and chopped scallop on the outside and fried unagi on the inside. It's an incredible roll to have if you're a fan of unagi. After this visit, there's no doubt in my mind Mega Sushi is the best sushi restaurant in Richmond! Love to visit again soon hopefully.

Horrible experience.... twice!
Service is slow. The special rolls are just dried out dynamite rolls covered in sauce. The salmon sashimi was chewy. Price is average. Go elsewhere and have a better experience. There are more than 4 sushi places in Steveston, try another one.

Our first stop after a 10 hour drive from Calgary after reading reviews of the best sushi places near Richmond. It was busy but the server was polite and seated us quickly. They have an extensive menu - fancy rolls, sashimi, maki rolls, udon and even korean rice dishes. We ordered the sunset and crunchy roll and was impressed by the freshness of the fish and flavors of the sauces used on the rolls. The fish was cold and fresh and the tempura was still crunchy despite being in a roll. Bf got the assorted sashimi platter and the fish was chunky and fresh. Negitoro roll was full of flavor and a good amount of rice to fish ratio. Our meal was around $70 with drinks so its not the cheapest in town however I would say it's decently priced.
Kelso002
These guy have an interesting take on sushi and by take I mean creativity on rolls. It's not your usual typical joint that slaps some seaweed, rice and fish but they bring presentation and flavor to a whole different level. The rolls are artistic, packed with flavor and saucy. I'd recommend giving this a try for their rolls. The sashimi here is fresh and thickly cut. Prices are a bit more expensive but they seem to offer specials

If you're tired of your usual sushi, try Mega Sushi. I came here because I got sick of regular rolls and wanted to try something new and delicious. Their deep fried maki rolls are to die for. Fantastic sauces and service add to the experience. Always a line up so make sure to go early. You won't regret it for sure.

Food was very tasty, but we had to wait around 10-15 minutes between our dishes. They impressed us at first when they got our beef carpaccio out in about 5 minutes, but after that we waited 15 minutes for the oyster motoyaki, then another 15-20 minutes for our Saba aburi. Everything tasted really great though, but it was frustrating seeing other tables receive their dishes around the same time and having to pick at one dish at a time.

In their defense, it was a very busy evening. There were also lots of take out orders too, but we were at the restaurant for almost 1.5 hours with most of the time spent waiting for food.

Absolutely loved the food!! The mega sushi platter had a satisfying variety and you can taste how fresh the seafood is..

The AAA beef capaccio was also yummy and of good quality

Tiny little place. Some neighbourhoods have a neighbourhood pub. This one has a neighbourhood sushi joint. Opened at 5pm, I got there around 515. All tables were reserved. Waited 45 mins. Service is quick. Could use a crack of a smile. Food was delicious, and I see why this spot is popular. Takeaway was also popular. Over ordered. Overindulged. Worth it.

Came here with friends and it was an impressive experience! The food here is so creative and high quality. I would absolutely recommend the Godzilla Bite and Mega Tower. They both look amazing and taste great. Easy to share too.

Was seeking a different sushi place on a recent hop to YVR. Thank you to IG's @eatwithirene for this recommendation as a mid-price point sushi place. Many novel offerings and names on the menu. Two we tried were Deep Fried Monkey Brains and the Sashimi Tower.
The monkey brains were deep fried avocado halves (4 pcs) topped with 2 types of mayo bass sauce. The appearance resembles brain hemispheres and the texture is mildly reminiscent of brains. Tasted good as appetizers, but strictly for avocado lovers.
The sashimi tower was interesting version of chirashi sushi. It comprised sashimi du jour (salmon, tuna, hamachi and tai), sushi rice, crab flakes and a base of mixed salad greens built into a tower. The tower was coated in a ginger miso dressing. Sashimi pieces in the tower is about 1/2 of a regular sushi slice and maybe of lesser quality. It's a fun dish to share.
The other sushi rolls and sashimi we ordered were all OK to good. The tempura batter was subpar though. It needs to lighter and crispier. Ours was thick and softened in about 5 minutes.
Service is quick and efficient. The dishes arrives close together and the large plates meant a crowded table.
I would return to try other dishes.

I don't go to Steveston often but when I do, I always visit here. The food is delicious and really unique. I especially like the Godzilla Bite and Fire Dragon Roll because the presentation is incredible with the flames and the taste is fantastic. It's also close to Garry Point Park so it's perfect to go for a stroll after a nice meal at Mega Sushi.

My family has visited this restaurant 3 times 2 bad customer service experiences, 1 where my 70 year old mother and 4 of her friends all 65 and over out for a walk, went to the restaurant 15 minutes early and were told they could not wait in the restaurant while it was raining outside.

The last time we went. We were told we could not reserve a table between 6-8 but when we got there. We found a few tables that were free, but were tables that were reserved and we were told we could not reserve a table for 10 only tables for 5.

The one time we did get to eat at the restaurant.

I found the food no better than traditional Japanese food, I guess if you are into overpriced fusion food and treated badly, like being in a restaurant that does not need your business since they are so successful, this is the one for you.
Miyaka K
Mega featured an intricate selection fusion sushi dishes; its most popular dish was the Mega Tower, which featured layers of finely diced salmon and tuna sashimi atop a bed of greens. The sashimi tower was intended to be mixed in with the salad and dressing by the customers themselves prior to consuming. It was the first time I had laid eyes on such a unique dish.

View full post (with photos) here! http://bit(dot)ly/2bznrNb

Came here with a friend for dinner on a quiet Monday evening. She wanted to go walk by the water and this is just a block away from a park that sits at the mouth of Steveston Harbour. We were planning on going to somewhere in Richmond to eat but am glad we stumbled onto this place!

There were plenty of staff on hand however service was somewhat slow at the start, especially when waiting to be seated. Once our order was taken tough, the waitress was much more attentive. I was surprised how quickly the food came out! The restaurant isn't big and even with it being only 2/3 full, it was noisy.

Food was definitely the star that stole the show. Rolls were well portioned, sashimi tasted great and the Mega Tower was simply delicious! For the size and the quality of food, this place offers excellent value! I will definitely be coming again if I am in the area.

One of my favourite sushi places. Authentic Japanese restaurant using the freshest ingredients with decent prices. Is busy most nights so go early or later. Also not too big of a joint so not a good idea to bring a large party. Lunch bento boxes are also a great deal! Mega tower is one of their best sellers!!
MSY
It is a very modernized and westernized sushi restaurant. Their food designing is pretty cool.
Godzilla bite is awesome.
Their specialty rolls are very good.
I would recommend you to book ahead if you would like to sit while you eat, especially when you are going with more than 4 people.
One thing I don't like about this place is their parking. It's in a weird location too.
But overall, I would recommend this restaurant for their quality of food.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here last night. Based on our past experiences, it's always so packed by dinnertime so we decided to come a little before 6pm. We were seated right away. I got the Crazy Girl Roll which was deep fried cream cheese California roll. After waiting for a few minutes (it was very fast!), we got our food. Mine was delicious! I think I prefer without the cream cheese but it was still good! The place itself is nice (and their washroom is nice too) but it's a little cramped and loud. My boyfriend and I left after eating as we couldn't talk a lot 'cause of the noise level. The service is very good and quick. Lastly, the prices are a little higher than normal. My roll was $9 but I know another restaurant that sells it at half the price (same quality, bigger sushi pieces). I'll be back though!

I joined a bible study group lunch at Steveston Village. It’s a long story as I do not belong to that bible study group. But one of the member is the teacher of one of the praise dance group I attended. She gave me ride to the praise dance most of the time. So, she invited me to go along since the lunch was on one of the praise dance day.

Mega Sushi is located in Steveston.

They closed for break from 3-5 PM. We went in almost 2:30 PM, and we thought they will turn us away. Fortunately, they did not. The place are still full when we got in, and we saw at least 4 more groups of people got seated by 3 PM. Amazing!

We tried one of their feature dishes which is Godzilla Bite. It has deep fried seaweed and rice with tuna, salmon, torched spicy chop and alfalfa on top with special sauce. Yummy! Yummy!
😋😋

Fresh sashimi! Great presentation!

Food: 4.5/5
Services: 4/5
Special Features: Fresh Sashimi, Godzilla Bite

Beautiful presentation and absolutely incredible food! I always wanted to try Mega Sushi after looking at the beautiful photos from the restaurant online and the real experience was just as good as the photos! The Mega Tower is an absolute masterpiece with so much fresh fish, salad, and over four different fantastic special sauces. It was beautiful to look at and just as good in taste. Next, the Godzilla Bite was stunning as well with with a fire in the middle and the Godzilla Bites and salad surrounding it. The taste was the closest thing to perfection and I loved the blend of torched tuna, fried seaweed and rice with salmon and special sauce. This place is the best place in the city for fusion sushi! I will definitely be returning and I'm going to bring my family next time too.

Been a regular since 2014 and I thought I'd finally create an account and leave a review after another impressive meal. Dined in tonight for dinner with my girlfriend and I must say it was another spectacular meal.

The Big Boss Roll and Chirashi don were mouthwatering and we thoroughly enjoyed every last piece. Too often you find restaurants that either cut the fish too thick or too thin and ruin the taste but Mega Sushi cuts it right to perfection and the fish is fresh as it can be. The Big Boss roll was so tasty as always and the torched tuna and crispy yam flakes on it are really good.

The menu has a lot of creative variety and the quality well rivals any of the top sushi places downtown. I've been to most of the top places in Downtown and honestly Mega Sushi would be much more famous if they moved there. The prices are fairly affordable for such a fine dining experience too. Easy to become a regular here like me. Very good restaurant.

One of the best restaurants in Richmond. I'm so addicted to Mega I've been here maybe a dozen times already! I always order the fantastic appetitizers Monkey Brain and House green salad to start. Their salad sauce is the best I've ever tasted and the sauces on the monkey brain provide a fantastic blend too. For the main meal, the Godzilla Bite, Mega Tower, and Big Boss roll are the best! The food here is not only stunning in presentation, the ingredients are high quality and the taste is mindblowing too. I highly recommend this place!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. the persom was so rude and I felt insulted with the way he deals with customers considering we made a reservation and even called that we were going to be 10 mins late. He gave our table away when they said they will hold it for an extra 15 mins. Not the first time dealing with him. He treats customers like sh*t.
GET THIS GUY FIRED.
S.K
The worse service on the face of earth. The most unfriendly servers ever to exist. Good food but the service is enough to throw the experience into the trash bin. Arrogant male server treats customers like stray animals. People have bad days, but on both occasions, same server treats customers like garbage. Garbage restaurant, will never return again.
Hungry_vancouverite
Salmon sashimi was so fresh and delicious. These guys really know how to serve fresh sashimi it's by far the best in the city! The Sakura lunch set also has a lot of good food and it's very affordable. Also, the Godzilla Bite melts in your mouth and it's a must have! Best sushi in Richmond
Akiderp
Really dissapointed. Made reservations and was told it was going to be 30min. Arrived earlier to see if they were ready early and was asked how many it was for right away. Tried to tell them I had a reservation but she walked off. Found her 5min later and she gave me attitude for not letting her know earlier. Was seated and plates were sticky and dumped onto the table. One had a slice of ginger on it still. Tried to get it replaced and it never came.

Prawn tempura and unagi don were very fresh and yummy. Other rolls were... mediocre at best and half falling apart. One wasnt even cut all the way through or plated right. Oyster motoyaki was a failure. All cheese and looked slapped together. No lemon and quite dry. Food came fairly quickly though.

Used to love this place.
Not going to be coming back for a very long time.

Edit: forgot to mention that when I was calling they hung up on me and kept cutting me off when I was speaking.
Kimboslice
Sashimi salad was amazing. Very detailed with ingredients and sashimi was very fresh! Seating was a little uncomfortable as we we're squished in the corner from a big party, but you should definitely try this place out for some good special rolls and fresh sashimi.
Julia Charlotte
Mega sushi has excellent quality sushi, and is my go to place in Richmond. It gets really crowded at peak hours, and I would recommend making reservations. Service is usually excellent, especially Rachel! She's great at making sure everyone gets their food in a timely manner and is happy with it. Sometimes the service isn't great - I've been a few times in the summer where service was slow and inattentive.

The best value is in their lunch bentos, but I also really enjoy their nabeyaki udon.
Every Day Is A Food Day
Overall, we were extremely please with the delivery service and food quality of Mega Sushi. From my experience with Just Eat for Richmond delivery service, it is always the restaurant employee or owner who is delivering the food. Therefore, it really depends on the restaurant for the quality of delivery service. We had a poor experience before where our food was almost an hour late, but Mega Sushi didn't fail and I will be using their service again. Prices were the same as in their restaurant and delivery charge was only $3.95 or free if your order is over $35. Check out the ratings on Just Eat's website to determine which restaurant is worth ordering from.

Finally found the best sushi ever! I have really high expectations when it comes to sushi but Mega Sushi met them all! The Mega Bento and special rolls like Big Boss Roll, Sunset Roll, and Godzilla Bite will make sure you leave with a smile on your face!

Mega Bento serves such an impressive variety of food with large portions and amazing taste! I was delighted that I could get teriyaki, tempura, alaska roll, gyoza, salad, sunomono, and miso soup for under $20! Nothing beats the high quality here!!

Now let me get into the special rolls. The Big Boss Roll has torched tuna which really excited my taste buds and the sauces and yam flakes provided a perfect blend. The sunset roll and godzilla bite were also unique and miles ahead of nearby sushi restaurants!!! I wish I lived closer to here because Mega Sushi is perfection ♡♡♡

My boyfriend and I visited Mega Sushi at busy dinner time. We made sure to get reservation because we knew it was going to be jam packed. We got what everybody gets at Mega: Godzilla Bite and Mega Tower. The presentation for both dishes were stunning and tasted amazing too. The waitress was friendly and attentive despite the restaurant being so busy. Food came out pretty quick as well. Definately returning soon!
Jada
Arrived at the restaurant with my dad at 12 PM, and waited for 20 minutes to get a table for two, which I knew that it would be busy so I didn't mind. Once we looked over the menu and knew what we wanted, we probably sat waiting for one of the waitresses to take our order for 10 minutes, even when I waved to get the attention of a waitress. I ordered the Mega Tower, Crispy & Crunchy Roll, and the Godzilla Bite.

Waited another 30 minutes to get ONE dish, which was the Crispy & Crunchy Roll. It tasted okay, but it wasn't even crunchy. We then waited another 10-15 minutes to get the Godzilla Bite, and it tasted much better than the Crispy & Crunchy Roll.

A quarter way through eating the Godzilla Bite, the Mega Tower arrived. I honestly like the salad more than the sashimi itself. Under all that sashimi is rice and avocado with imitation crab. The avocado was brown. Was the dish really worth $20? I would say it's worth $17.

For the service, I would say they weren't on the friendly side. No smiles, harsh faces that can cause wrinkles. I understand that no one can smile everyday, but to have an almost glaring face? Not good. We gave a %10 tip, and the waitress looked very irritated. We got seated at 12:25, and left at 1:40. I would've looked very irritated that I had to wait 30 minutes for the first dish, but I wasn't.

Mega Sushi, hire more waiters/waitresses and maybe even one more chef. We definitely won't be returning.

The Good:
-fresh fish
-creative presentations
-decent food size
-the washroom sink is nice

The Bad:
-very crowded inside
-you wait a long time to order and receive your food
-service is not even so-so
-restaurant is understaffed, hence the wait
-prices for some dishes are expensive for what you get

Note: I only have a picture of the Mega Tower because we forgot to take a pic of the other dishes and already dug in.
Candy_foodie
I really love the sushi here, its very delicious. The price are a little expensive than other sushi restaurant but its worth it. Customer service are good, my sister and I didn't wait long. I would totally come here again.

I love Mega Sushi!! This has become my favourite go to place when dining out with friends and family!

The special rolls and dishes here are MASTERPIECES! Godzilla Bite and Mega Tower are their top two signature menu and the presentation of the food is in a class of its own! The food here is sooo attractive and delicious!

I also personally love their salad dressing as I think it's super refreshing and original! For rolls, make sure to try the Big boss roll for a treat and the Monkey brain as an appetizer! :D I could go on and on!!

Mega Sushi is perfect for dining out with friends or family on the weekends when you are craving an amazing meal! Reward yourself and visit! Make sure to make reservations cause it's super popular!

Definitely my top choice anywhere!
Jessica Chan
This place is amazing! Their godzilla bites dish is stunning and their mega sushi tower was delicious. If you were to only pick one out of the two to try, go for the godzilla bites. You won't regret it :)
Erika Alexander
Incredible sushi here if not the best in Richmond! Recently I visited for two consecutive nights and then again today for Halloween. The ingredients are the freshest I've ever tasted and the portions are wonderful. My husband and I always start off with the classic godzilla bite and beef cappacio. We then progress to order the big boss roll and variation of nigiri sushi. Everything's so beautiful and tasty and I really like their cute Halloween decorations! Mega sushi is quickly becoming our number one choice whenever we go out. There's a nice variation too so we never get sick of our food!
Doublebites
Mega sushi is a Korean owned Japanese restaurant in Steveston. They have wide selection on their menu and quite few unique items. We enjoyed all the food we ordered except for the seafood salad which was very small in quantity for its price. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal here. Quality food for good price!
Maggi Mei
There are so many fusion sushi and Japanese places in the city. How does one stand out? How do you choose one place when the others, when they all offer something similar, if not same by another name? Each of these place is trying to make their own mark. They each attempt to craft the perfect roll with the most ingredients, and one that has the most unique ingredients. Replacing rice for cucumber, seaweed for bean curd. Anything that would deem them innovators in the North American sushi game. And when that fails to make a ripple they rely on clever names or funny puns. Sushi named after streets signs, local areas, or familiar landmarks. Or rolls with names have have you taking a second look. Why is it called that? Or that sounds interesting, I wonder how it tastes.
Constant Cravings
Mega Sushi is tucked away on Sixth Avenue and Chatham Street in Steveston near Garry Point park. I actually went once last summer but never ended up blogging about it so I must blog about it this time! Mega Sushi has a lot of special rolls but they can get pricey. We didn’t make a reservation so we were lucky they weren’t too busy that day. Actually, we had tried to go to Ichiro down the block but they were fully booked! Our food started coming within five minutes of us ordering. I was so impressed!!!
Thomas Hamberger
Mega Sushi sets a standard for other local bistros to follow with their strong all around presentation. Their variety in dishes, location a short walk from the heart of steveston and mellow internal atmosphere makes the restaurant a considerable go for casual sushi enthusiasts. However as great as the place sounds, this seafood haven lacks its own unique attribute of presentation and service to make it stand out among other higher end sushi places in lower mainland, and definitely does not compete with traditional sushi restaurants in Japan. With its more casual atmosphere, Mega Sushi has me coming back once in a while for an acceptable quality non all-you-can-eat seafood endeavour.
OutnAbout
The restaurant located near Garry Point Park in Steveston had pretty good street parking on a weekday evening.

First impression of this restaurant was that it was packed with people. The target group ranges, and attracted from young adults to families.

What we munched:
- Mega Tower
- Godzilla Bite
- Tuna Gomae
- Big Boss Roll
- Cherry Blossom Roll

Afterthought:
It was overall fairly good. The flavours of the Mega Tower and Godzilla Bite were quite similar in terms of the sauce used along with the same bunch of salad on the side. A little more exaggeration in the difference would have been better. Otherwise, I found the two dishes nearly identical and neither stood out over the other.

As for the special rolls, 'Cherry Blossom' has avocado, cucumber, imitation crab in a roll with salmon, avocado, apple sauce, caper, tobiko on top. 'Big Boss' has prawn tempura, cucumber, imitation crab, avocado in a roll with torched tuna, yam flakes, four sauces on top.

The apple sauce in the Cherry Blossom roll was too faint and did not add the sweet acidic touch. Because of the 'absence' of the apple sauce, it is indifferent from an augmented version of a California roll with salmon.

Big Boss on the other hand was more unique. I enjoyed the crunchy yam flakes with the sushi and the sauces made a difference!

The ambience of the restaurant is very busy. It took four tries before we could get a staff to take our order.

Close to Steveston Village and Garry Point Park, this restaurant is busy all the time. Go early, or reservation highly recommended. Korean run serving fresh sashimi and creative sushi rolls. Service is excellent. Patio seating available.

Came for the dinner hours and was seated promptly, ordered the Crispy & Crunchy Roll and Salmon Don which was served pretty prompt and was really good.

Would come back if I'm in the area~

Located on the outskirts of the Steveston strip, it is somewhat a hidden gem, sharing a corner with a Mexican restaurant. Mega Sushi is a Korean run and owned Japanese restaurant, do not let the name fool you as it is not a cheap joint with rolls filled with rice. They are known for their creative rolls and specialty dishes at a reasonable price – seriously, where would you be able to find uni nigiri for $2.95?! Unfortunately I was not lucky enough that night as it was sold out when we sat down, I was able to glimpse the last order being placed in the middle of the table beside us.

PROS
+ Lunch Bento is a good deal
+ Fresh sashimi and ingredients
+ Special Rolls are really special LOL They are all unique, tasty, filled with good quality sashimi, and nicely presented.

CONS
- Not so much sashimi in Korean Chirashi Don

RATING
Food 4.0/5.0
Ambience 3.0/5.0
Service 4.0/5.0
Price $$
Mega Sushi is a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant that serves really fresh Sashimi and delicious special rolls. Their lunch boxes are well-portioned at affordable prices. As usual, J got a #8 bento box and I tried something new, the Korean Chirashi.

Both of our orders came with a bowl of MISO SOUP.

LUNCH BENTO #8 ($14.95) consisted of Chicken Teriyaki, Assorted Tempura, Shrimp Sunomono, California Roll and Sashimi. There were 5 different kinds of Sashimi including hokkigai, tako, hamachi, tuna and sockeye salmon (2 pieces of each). The size was a bit smaller than the regular sashimi orders but it was still fresh in terms of texture and taste. This bento is a steal for the amount of you get especially when 6 pieces of hamachi sashimi at Mega Sushi is $16.95.

Chicken Teriyaki was on a bed of bean sprouts, sauced in teriyaki sauce.

KOREAN CHIRASHI DON ($15.95) consisted of the rice, fresh mixed greens, assorted chopped sashimi and tobiko, drizzled with sesame oil. Although it came in a huge stainless bowl, the amount of sashimi was so little. I've tried Korean Chirashi Don at many other places at similar prices, but Mega Sushi had the least amount of sashimi.

Mega Sushi is one of my favourite sushi joints in Steveston. They have many creative rolls that you can't find anywhere else.
Highly recommend you making reservations, if you plan to eat there for dinner.

Oishi. Super good food. Loved it. Great service too.

Turned away!. I phoned to book for 10 people for 5 pm Saturday night for my son's birthday and was not welcomed by the Manager June. First she said 10 was too many to have a reservation for, then when I suggested splitting into a table of 6 and 4 she said they didn't take reservations. As the restaurant opens at 5 pm I said it shouldn't be a problem if we were there at 5 pm. However she said it could be and she couldn't guarantee anything. Then she said she was too busy to talk further she had work to do. Because of her rudeness and unaccommodating attitude, she has lost our business. I asked her for the name of the Manager and she told me Brian, but would not give any further information. I just wanted to inform him because of June we will never return to this restaurant.

So Good!. This is one of the BEST sushi restaurants around. Fresh, fresh, fresh! Presentation is awesome! Only downside is the restaurant is small and very busy. However it is worth the wait!!

At her suggestion we checked out Mega Sushi, a popular sushi restaurant in Steveston village, several hundred feet away from the beaches of Gary Point. She’d been before, but I hadn’t. I’m so glad she picked it! Mega Sushi is a great casual sushi place with fantastic special rolls. (But no, the sushi there is not particularly mega.) For a casual sushi place, I wouldn’t say Mega Sushi is cheap. But it isn’t entirely unusual in price, so expect to pay $1.50 for miso soup, around $7-$13 for a special roll, and upwards of $9 for anything like udon, donburi, or teriyaki.

The best in town. Best sushi I ever had we have been going to this place since it opened, highly recommend Crazy Boy Roll and Big Boss roll and to be honest everything on their menu is amazing you cant go wrong!

Little place called Mega Sushi. Lovely!. I am from Calgary and my boss is from Edmonton. We are doing some work at casinos here in BC and we've been trying different culture's food in the last few nights. We head down to this little place called MEGA SUSHI and we weren't dissapointed. Food presentations are awesome and hats off to the chefs for their creativity. We ordered Monkey Brain, Sexy Roll, Mega Roll, Mango sushi and others. Love it especially the sauce underneath. Will definitely try this place again next time we or I go back to BC.
Christina
Great sushi pleasant staff! You must try it! Very fresh sashimi. We had our tea refreshed many time. Probably best sushi place in steveston and we will be going back love mega sushi.

An absolute Gem. This place has never disappointed me. They don't serve an overabundance of rice to keep you fill. Their sushi is wrapped with buy minimal rice and the freshest fish I have ever tasted in my life. It beats any place in downtown. Their salmon sashimi is so fresh it leaves an almost fresh after taste. I have gone here more times than I can count and I have never been disappointed. I love their Mega tower and Godzilla bite. To be honest, I can't thinK of anything I don't like on their menu. Their Sexy roll is delicious and so fresh. Their sakura bento is my favourite. The only criticism I can offer is that they need a bigger venue as you may be kept waiting half an hour after your reservation. Be prepared to wait even on a Wednesday night if you do not have reservations.

Smelled fish & uni. My friend recommended this restaurant to us. It's worth to try and went there last night Oct 17. We ordered salmon sashimi, uni sushi, chopped scalop roll, salmon kama, prawn & yam tempura and sexy roll. The salmon sashimi is not fresh and the uni smelled a little getting rotten. The biggest failure is the salmon kama. By the time when they put this dish on our table, we already smelled something like dead clam. We didn't know what this was until we started eating the kama. The smell really came out of it and the meat seemed not fully cooked. We complaint but the waitress insisted the kama is good after she ate some. I explained to her if any seafood smelled, it's bad and getting rotten already. Eventually she cancelled this dish. It's their food storage and handling problem.

Great sushi and excellent service!. Had a great lunch here. I ordered a steveston roll, negitoro roll and a seaweed salad. All items were exceptional and nicely presented. Our server was very attentive and cheerful! I will definitely be back - its great to see a restaurant in steveston produce good consistent quality as I feel that many have become overly comfortable and complacent due to the "tourist trade"

I LOVE Mega Sushi!. I've been coming to Mega Sushi since it opened in Steveston a few years ago. I'm so happy I live down the street so I can feed my cravings. The food is always good (I've eaten here about 20 times and have never had a bad meal.) I love how friendly and helpful the staff are. The food is served quickly and it's always fresh. One of my favourite places to eat in the Lower Mainland! Try it, you'll love it!

ADDICTED TO MEGA SUSHI. By far the best sushi restaurant in Richmond! I go here about once a month whenever I am in Steveston and in the mood for sushi. They have amazing house created rolls, and their spicy sauce is to die for.

I ordered the godzilla roll for the first time today and it blew my mind!
Sara.hass
Best sushi in richmond. I honestly love this place. The sushi is so well made, and so different from the ordinary rolls that you could get anywhere. Sometimes it is pretty busy, but for sushi that good I don't ever mind waiting. I always tell my friends to go here for the best sushi in Richmond. Never had a bad experience ever!
Hugeblackhole
Insane wait time for average food. Waited 30 mins for a specialty roll. Waved to cancel and pay the bill, promised to come right the way. Waited another 15 mins still no roll, gave up, ask for the bill again. Bill show up then roll 2 mins later. Original waiter was very nice but the follow up ladies kept lying about order that takes 5 mins to make but won't show up till 45 mins later. Food is average, too many much better sushi places around town. No worth the wait.

High quality food and services!. My friend took me out for a dinner and we decided to have sushi as it is my favorite food. He took me to Mega sushi, where I had a really wonderful experience. The waitress was very good and kind. Food was excellent with great taste. Especially, I loved the freshness of the food and the way they were presented on the plate! I really enjoyed the dinner at Mega sushi and I will definitely be coming back for more sushi!
FoodieGirl
Horrible service, low quality food. Just had a terrible experience here. We had to beg and plea to even get a server to help us. We felt like we were inconveniencing them to ask to order. When they did finally take our order they repeatedly forgot and we had to remind and reorder our food! Then when the food came it was poor quality and one roll was inedible. We didn't eat it and they were reluctant to take it off the bill. There was no apology and the attitude servers gave us was downright rude (eye rolling etc). Needless to say, no tip was warranted and the response to this was pretty horrible too... But still no apology of course. We won't be going back here and hope you don't make the mistake of going either, as their motto is "we can't make everyone happy". PS Don't order the paradise roll... It's anything but!

Best sushi in richmond seems i.m always getting sushi - just sushi when i go mega sushi. So i can.t comment on the other dishes ( though they look fantastic) but i can attest to the maki sushi. The califoria roll is far and alway the best i.ve had. As is the mega roll. The sushi chefs are always working flat out it seems and we sometimes have to wait longer the we.d hoped for our food. But its alwaysworth the wait the service is abit more variable. Though and the staff often seem run off their feet. Even though there are usually lots of them and they all seem to do everything don.t expect them to notice the level of your glass and offer you another drink or to ask how your food is or if they tent to leave you alone to eat in peace. So you.ll have to flag someone down and ask for what you need including the bill. In all however highly recommended. Unless you happy to be on a tight schedule.

-----10 Jun, 2014-----

I went there yesterday with my friends and we order lots of tuna dishes for some reason. Over all it was really delicious and my favourite dishes were mega tower and beef capaccio!!the beef was soooooo soft and tender ! Service was very good too. We wil definitely want to revisit and try other foods!
Jessica L
Terrible service!! Had a great experience the first time I went her but they've overextended themselves because of their success. Slow, no menus for 10 minutes, had to chase our waiters around. Lots of other places that are just as good.
Colin
Looking for good service? Run away!. There is slow, and then there's Mega Sushi. The reviews were promising, and despite the warning signs of horrible service, we decided to give it a shot on a Tuesday night anyway. POOR CHOICE. Our party of three was brushed off the moment we spoke to someone. Once seated, we waited a lengthy period before receiving our tea. And then there was The Wait. I could have easily watched an episode of Game of Thrones by the time the food arrived. The scene in Mega Sushi was much less entertaining. The servers had no system. The sushi chefs churned out dishes at a sluggish pace. Our tea was emptied and taken away, never to return again. Our longful gazes at the sushi bar was eventually met by a "Your order is coming." And it did. Half an hour later. Our dishes came out slowly, one by one, until eventually we were left waiting for two more rolls. Another 20 minutes pasted. They had forgotten our order. Never again.
Lj.sewell72
Terrible service. I live in the area so have been several times but no longer! The service is awful. Every time I go they either forget to bring something (but always charge for it) or forget to place order altogether. The food is great but the service is so bad I won't be going back anytime soon. Yesterday I ordered take out and had a friend pick it up on the way over only to discover they forgot to put one of the dishes. Two weeks ago I was there on my lunch hour and they forgot to place the order all together.... I know a lot of people that have complained of the same things. Sorry but offering me Miso soup is not going to make up for the poor service.

Delicious and pretty looking dishes. Tons of fancy rolls to choose from! Staff are friendly and tentative. Try the Mega Tower and Godzilla Roll.

First time trying Mega Sushi was definitely a great experience. Myself and two friends (all big sushi lovers) heard good things about Mega Sushi, so we finally went in earlier this week. We arrived quite late, at almost 9pm (they close at 9:30!). We asked the waitress if she could recommend the most popular dishes and her favourites. She was super cute and gave us an in-depth explanation of all the popular dishes and her personal favs. They gave us complimentary miso soup to start. We went with the Ebi Mayo as an appy. Very yummy, but not the star of the show. We decided to take the waitresses advice and ordered the Mega Tower which was $19.99 but could have literally fed a family. It was delicious!!! It was heavily packed with an assortment of sashimi and all the flavors went together very nicely. Seriously Delicious!!!!!!!!! Great flavour, colourful, fun, good variety of textures throughout the dish and it was beautifully presented! Almost too pretty to eat!!! This was, in my opinion, the star of the show. We also got one Mega Roll and one Sunset Roll. Both were really goood, original, tasty and beautifully presented dishes! We also ordered 2 orders of oyster motoyaki (2pc per order). Oyster motoyaki is my favourite and I have NEVER had a more delicious oyster motoyaki than this one. It came in shell and was oozing with real, stringy cheese as opposed to the usual runny/greasy ones we are all used to. AMAZING! As full as we all were, a waitress brought us over an order of Tuna Tartar, compliments of the executive chef. Similar to everything else we ordered, it was presented beautifully and plated perfectly! Tasted great as well! By this time the restaurant was closed, and we were told by the very friendly staff to take our time, and not to rush! On top of the great tasting food, and amazing presentation, the sevice was outstanding!!!! My friend dropped a chop stick at one point and within 5 seconds it was replaced with a clean one, no exaggeration!!! All 3 of us were left floored all throughtout the meal, and the entire experience! Service was 5 stars, taste was 5 stars, presentation was 5 stars!!! Mega tower was a bit pricey but HIGHLY recommend That dish! This place is the best sushi restaurant I've ever been to and I loved it!!! Try it you won't be disappointed!!!!! Definitely worth the drive out to steveston!

Went there for a family night-out and absolutely loved everything. The food was great and staffs were very friendly. Would love to come back.

Lack of service. Severs require additional training. Best option is take out. We waited nearly a full hour after ordering to receive food

I have gone to mega sushi 4 times with my family. The first 3 were pretty good and was willing to come back! But this last time was quite disappointing. My food tasted like fish and there was an unexpected layer of hot sauce on my yam tempura roll. Overall i left gagging. I dont think ill be coming back.

Overated on the Mega Tower. Oyster motoyaki (grilled oyster covered with vegetables, mayo, cheese) $6.95 2.5/5 - It didn't say anywhere that their oyster motoyaki comes with onions. I didn't like that. I also have a feeling that they just put canned oysters and reused the shell.
Mega tower (assorted sashimi placed on top of sushi rice in a tower-like shape with organic vegetable and apple sauce, balsamic vinegar and homemade special sauce) $19.95 4/5 - I've seen pictures of this and based on the name I was in high hopes. It was smaller than what I expected for $20. Taste was good but I was expecting more. Something that could fill me up for $20.
Crazy boy roll (deep fried california roll with 3 signature sauces) $8.95 3/5 - many places have crazy boy. Nothing too special here. Too bad they don't have the crazy girl roll (deep fried cream cheese roll)
Godzilla bite (deep fried seaweed and rice with tuna, salmon, torched spicy chop and alfalfa on top with special sauce) $13.95 4/5 - The spiderweb sauces were pretty which made us didn't want to dig in until the end. Don't wait for that. It goes even better with the sauce.

I think this place is doing a pretty good job on the deep fried items. The batter was not too thick.

My fave. Amazing special rolls! Beautifully presented and tastes great!!

This is the best sushi place that ive ever been!!! I had mega tower which has great presentation was awesome. Big boss roll ,Spicy yam tempura roll a bit spicy and I loved them. And everyone was so nice. Although I was waiting for a table, but it worth it! I will come back.

I have eaten there many times and the food is great! However don't be there near closing as they are closing the door on time if not before
It is my wife's birthday and I was refused a reservation! Even after i mentioned it was a birthday. I'm not going back!!!!8

Oh my, I do not think this place deserves 89% at all. Sashimi was covered in blood, food was cold and not fresh, service was bad. Ignored our table, served others first, ignored requests and don't know how to make sushi. Greatly disappointed, seriously, was shortly at ichiro down the street a few days ago, MILES apart. This place is awful, do yourself a favour and don't come here.

I went there with my girlfriend, we Had unagi sushi but half size as before, but they still melt in ur mouth and Tasty. We also Had prawn tempura, more eyes brain ( I don't like it myself ); toro worst than before, not melt in my mouth; salmon Toro sushi, they made it like salmon tataki on rice, not raw; big boss roll and oyster motoyaki are so good.. good services as well.

Mega sushi is one of our favourite places in steveston. Amazing atmosphere and delicious sushi. My son loves how they greet you and say goodbye. A little pricey but a good treat.

Great attention to detail; friendly service. Tried this place for lunch and am about to go back for dinner. Wonderful special touches; beautifully prepared food; incredibly attentive service, and nice decor. A winner!

MEGA kudos for Mega Sushi. I've been eating sushi in Vancouver close to forty years. From mega uni to fried shrimp heads and lots of other chef's specialities, I do not even know what was it I ate. All very good, some better, some worse. Never afraid to try something new. I do not order rolls often. They are quite ordinary, usually pre-prepared and cut up just before serving. I was surprised to find many different rolls on the menu of this restaurant. More rolls than sushi. I thought well, must try some of the rolls, since the sushi choices are quite small.
I am glad I did. Their rolls are heaven. Prepared individually, with care, great attention to detail. Exquisite presentation, brand new taste. The restaurant is owned by a Korean owned and it has a very slight spicy Korean touch which I found very pleasing. Actually, the spicy touch is fabulous. Delicious if you like hot.
We tried three or four different rolls. I do not remember all of the rolls names but I crave the 'Cherry Blossom' roll and the Steveston Roll. Very pleasant staff, good service. Within walking distance to Garry Point Park.
Outdoor patio with a free wi-fi, the Fraser River and the ocean close by, scrumptiously delicious food - what else can you ask for?

Someone mentioned Ichiro being close by. Yes, it is close by and if you like the run of the mill tasting rolls, Ichiro is the place to be. However, if you want your taste buds to experience something out of the ordinary, than Mega Sushi is for you.
Will be back, be back, be back.
