Lucullus is, by far, my favourite chinese bakery chain. This Chinese bakery chain has locations throughout the city. We find that their buns are the softest, their BBQ pork buns have the best filling, and their $5 boxed rice lunches are pretty good too! Sometimes they sell out of their most popular buns, though.
Do not go expecting to get pineapple buns. You might be lucky if you are able to snag one. Otherwise their bakery has consistent good hong kong - Chinese style buns and their rice with spare ribs lunches are good value and tasty as well. Good egg tarts and hk style milk tea.
The BEST pineapple buns in town!. This bakery is so far the only place that knows how to make HK authentic pineapple buns (poh-loh bau) right! There has been several times that my family and I have stumbled upon fresh off the oven made pineapple buns and I swear, I want to eat 3 of those at once! There's another bakery next door to this place that has cheaper buns but people still walk out of this store carrying bags and bags worth of chinese buns.
This place has an exceptional amount of fillings for their buns that has fillings, unlike other places, it's all just dough! Oh and this place also has very good HK style milk tea (Lai-cha). Highly recommended!
PS. They have a second location at 14th Ave./Kennedy Ave. , next door to Fancy Chinese Restaurant. Yes, just as good and more seats to sit in and enjoy a fresh-off-the-oven pineapple buns! haha
