As we headed northward at lunchtime, we stopped in at Bayview Court. The restaurant was just under half full, and we were seated at a booth, which suited us just fine. The wall between the dining room and the kitchen was decorated to resemble the exterior of some small shops, giving the restaurant interior a little bit of an outdoor feel.
We ordered two small bowls of Hot and Sour Soup (with sliced pork and shrimp). One bowl would have been sufficient for the two of us. It was served piping hot, and had a bit more vinegar than most similar soups that we have had elsewhere.
Our first main dish was “145 Sweet Sour Chicken w/ Pineapple Cantonese Style”. At first I thought the chicken was battered, but it may have been dipped in some corn starch before frying. The pieces of chicken were fairly large, and some of them were over cooked a little bit.
Our second dish was going to be crispy beef, but our server told us that it was not available. We switched our choice to “166 Stir Fried Beef w/ Fresh Mushroom Green Onion”. The beef was thinly sliced and tender. Some of the mushrooms were pretty big, and difficult to pick up with chopsticks.
In general, the portions were fairly large. There was a problem with the soup service. Usually the soup is served almost immediately after ordering, but ours wasn’t. It was served at the same time as the main dishes. The food tasted good, but the service could have been better.
This is our go-to Chinese restaurant in our immediate neighbourhood. Everything we've had is delicious. Try the Sui mai and the chive dumplings, Singapore noodles, chilli chicken, ginger beef.. the hot and sour soup is one of the best we've had.. Chicken with cashews, sweet and sour pork, beef in black bean.. we try to order something different every time. My only complaint are the spring rolls, they weren't filled well and were tasteless. This place doesn't have egg rolls.
The best Chinese food i've ever tasted i must say. Must try their dim sum, spicy squid and fruit freezes. Service is good and the restraunt is very clean
The taro and sweet corn congee is spectacular !!
All the rice mixed in perfectly with the minced beef and preserved vegetables. I gobbled up three small bowls of rice quickly since I was hungry and this tasted amaaaaazing!
Bayview Court specializes in “Teochew” or “Chiu Chow” cuisine, originated from the Chaoshan region in the north-easternmost area of Guangdong province in China. The menu resembles the one from Congee Wong and offers a huge selection of dishes.
In North America, there is Chinese food and there is Chinese food. The former always includes chicken balls with a half inch batter coating served with a high viscosity artificially intense orange coloured sauce.
We have eaten here several times and also have ordered delivery. The food is always great and they have a huge selection. The menu in the restaurant has lots of pictures, however, everything is written in Chinese. If you order delivery try to place your order early or expect a long wait.
Been eating this restaurant on & off for the last 2 decades. Plenty Parking in this plaza. Price & portions are decent. Interior is outdated but still acceptable. The server is very friendly and courteous. They do keep their food good quality over 20 years. We really like the soya sauce duck and we order it every visit. Will visit again soon.
We have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years. It just like your home kitchen. Sometimes you go there because nobody can suggest a place to eat. Steamed live tilapia, stir fried vegetables will make you feel so satisfied. Don’t forget to order their dessert - Taro mashed ginkgo, so yummy!
Company of four dining at 7pm on a Monday night. No need to wait. Reception and ordering was friendly and quick. We ordered a set dinner for four plus a congee and an additional veggie dish. Traditional chewchow pig stomach soup was hot and tasty but not too salty. Wonderful starter it was. The oyster congee was also delicious as well. The marinated duck, chicken with crispy veggie, fried beef with mushroom, and minced pork with deep fried green beans were all well done with good portion served. This is a decent restaurant in town if you fancy some traditional chewchow cuisine.
Really decent Chiu Chow food in Richmond Hill. My absolute favourite was the salt pepper tofu and the marinated duck. Just so simple yet so flavourful. The claypot rice was also very decent. Will definitely come back to try the other special dishes. Nice ambience and responsive services too.
Too tired to cook. 😁 What to take out?
Get the ChiuChow style Soy Sauce Marinated Duck(half) 潮州鹵水鴨(半隻) CAD$13.99. Duck meat pre cut in slices like Pekking duck. Comes with 02 dipping sauces (vinegar and chiuchow style soy sauce). Duck meat smell clean without odor. Thin skin not fatty. Light soy sauce taste. I like to dip with pre-mixed vinegar. A must try Chiu Chow cold dish. Perfect for snacking after work.
Restaurant is spaced out and comfortable for dine in. The service was good.
The menu had various regional Chinese Chow and Canton cuisines; their Chiu Chow dishes were tasty and delicious. (such as those pictured in my review - the steamed crystal bun dessert and marinated eggs and tofu).
