A decent Chinese place in Richmond Green. NO MSG is what's advertised. I can't confirm if this is true, but if true I like this place already.
This restaurant fills the need for a Chinese restaurant this far north from Hwy 7. We ordered 2 items from their Sunday lunch special (lemongrass pork chop rice and beef brisket rice noodle soup). The food was decent, no real complaints, the spring rolls were small but quite tasty and were fried fresh!
The interior decor is hit or miss. The seating and general atmosphere is quite nice, but the TV's and car posters I feel detract from the overall look giving it a bit of a low-end diner feel. The bar itself reminds me of a swimming pool.
I remember seeing a sign on the side Elgin Mills Rd earlier during the summer which said "Dim Sum". I did not see any dim sum on their menu.
The staff seemed friendly enough for our first time there. Possible repeat in the future due to convenience since I live in the area.
Excellent food, nice people. This is my new go-to place for take out. The food is fresh, well prepared and they have generous portions. My favourite is a shrimp and scallop dish with rice noodles, the lemon chicken is the only dish I wasn't happy with.
Tastes great. The interior of the restaurant is just extraordinary. The food is absolutely, with no doubt one of the best in Richmond Hill. The server's were magnificent, it felt like I was on first class or a VIP. I've been going to Garlic Onion for a while now and it has never been a let down. Thank you for the amazing food and prices. No restaurant in all of Richmond Hill/ Markham/ Scarborough can be compared to Garlic Onion. The food, price, and service is just fantastic. Keep it up!
False Comments. I've been to Garlic Onion many times and there was never a moment in which and lady or gentlemen charged me $2 for a can of pop... I'm pretty sure it is an misunderstanding! I recommend you guys to try the tea combos which are delicious and reasonably priced!
Great Service, Good Food. The staff and owners of Garlic Onion are very friendly, and service is always prompt and attentive, especially when compared to the typical Chinese restaurant. The menu offers a fair amount of variety, the curry is tasty and very spicy. The dinner menu comes with free soup, and both the hot & sour soup and the Tom Yum soup are excellent. Also good are sweet and sour chicken and eggplant with minced pork. Overall, this restaurant provides excellent value for Richmond Hill diners.
The chicken steak was what I expected — tender, crispy, but a little underflavoured. The noodle texture was more soft than usual for “dam dam” noodles but the soup base was very good.
