Aneal's Taste Of The Islands

Love this place. Aneal & the family really care about good food & it shows in the quality & flavors of it. If it's the Roti, BBQ, Curry, Jerk chicken or anything else on the menu it might just be the best thing you'll eat all week. Oh & the Macaroni Pie's great, ask about when you go in.

Tried the roti. It had good flavor but I felt it needed more filler. The roti wrap was really thick. Needed more meat and
Potatoes to even it out. Would try a different dish if I go again. Given the other choices in the area.

Aneal's taste of the islands is new to Richmond Hill, but I would definitely say that it is the only place one should consider getting any carribbean based food from in the area. Service is awesome, food is great, and the prices are totally reasonable. Personally I don't agree with some of the other reviews, I vouch for this establishment wholeheartedly, and if you don't believe me try it for yourself.

The food is wonderful as are the owners. Dishes are plentiful and the spices are delicious. I look forward to my home cooked meal at Aneal's.

To me, food is the culmination of all passions. For both chef and patron, this involves empathy, dedication, and trust. Both chef and patron must feel a hunger that needs satiating, dedicate their time to the creation and consumption of the meal, and trust in the talents, experiences, and professionalism of the chef. Few have a passion that exceeds, let alone matches, my hunger for great food. However, Aneal's has thoroughly amazed and, without a doubt, humbled me with the amount of love and compassion he invests in his craft.

Run by owners who are as warm and inviting as the tropics they hail from, Aneal's challenged my assumptions of Caribbean food in North America. What had been the culinary equivalent of animal cruelty and disrespect, with all the overcooked and under/over seasoned meat, had been transformed into an appreciation and celebration of flavors and life.

At Aneal's there is a sincerity in the amount of heat that is applied to what I find to be the greatest Fish Sandwich I have ever had the fortune of eating; their Shark and Bake dressed with just the right amount of sauces and spices to pacify the natural odors common to fish while accentuating the fish's strong points. There is a tenderness applied to chicken dishes, which are given the proper amount of time to fall off the bone. The soups and curries are afforded the complexity to tell a story of cultures that have stood the test of time, while a rice side that has been suffering an uncertain future after being done to death tens of thousands of times over, is provided a new, brave, and refreshing take.

We can be misguided into biases about ethnic cuisine and debate the merits and demerits of differing interpretations on dishes, but when we set aside all the pride and politics we're all simply... hungry. And in all honesty, Aneal's is a great place to be just that. If for some reason or another you do not find the tastes to your liking, I will have to respectfully agree to disagree about what makes great Caribbean food; I can personally guarantee that it would never be for lack of trying.  Whether you are an adventurer who has never tried Caribbean food, or well traveled down that beaten path, I believe you will find pleasant surprises ahead walking into this establishment.
