Review Adrak - Richmond Hill

Been here a few times now. Usually a good experience, however the non-veg dishes weren't up to the mark when we visited recently. The veg dishes were really good. Usually the non beg kebabs are good however this specific one was not great. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable on the dishes. The ambiance is great. Make sure to book ahead of time when you visit, it's a busy restaurant usually.

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Adrak for our Christmas dinner this year. We found ourselves alone this year and didn't want to prepare a large meal and thought we'd try dinning out for the first time in our lives. What a great decision. The entire staff made you feel like you were family and the atmosphere was one of peace an tranquility. While we love food from this part of the world, we are not experts and simply said "feed us". And feed us they did. Every dish was wonderful, allowing us to sample many different tastes. We will definitely return and would highly recommend Adrak - thanks again for making this year's Christmas Dinner one of the best ever.

Wow! My new favourite restaurant! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was beyond yummy! We tried Lamb kebabs, Samosa chaat, Butter Chicken, Fish Curry, and Roti. Everything was impeccable. The truth is I’ve lived in the area and passed by this restaurant for many years. It just never occurred to me to check it out! Can’t wait to come back to try more dishes!

Adrak has quickly become my new favorite Indian Restraunt. The flavors are so bold and the meat is always perfectly tender and juicy. I highly recommend the non-vegetarian platter to start which includes a mix of different meat varieties done in tandoori style. My mouth is watering just thinking of it! I always enjoy my time here. Most recently, Terry and Varun were outstanding hosts and shout out to the both of them for facilitating a wonderful evening out. I'll be back soon! Keep up the wonderful food and service!

The best Indian restaurant in GTA, period. The head chef Rahul has done a great job bringing the taste of Delhi to Canada. The staff is very kind hearted, courteous and they never keep you waiting. Quick on their toes and yet keeping quiet. Food: This can be very subjective but I will just try and give my honest feedback. We ordered a bunch of items on the Menu, the best was the Delhi Butter chicken and the Rara Lamb curry. In Vegetarian, we liked the Kadhai paneer. I personally dont like too much dairy cream in the food, but here, the Dal Makhni has the right amount of cream and the taste is perfectly balanced. The Saag Adrak gave a homely feeling. The Saunfiani Tikka was dry to eat. Portion Size: The portion size is very good, we were a family of 5, and every curry on the table was enough for all us. Service: Service is top notch. Ambience: A fine dine in, classy. What I liked is that usually in restaurants, the music is too loud, lights are too dim, nothing of that sort here. You can talk without the noise of music bothering you. Rating: 5/5 A special shoutout to the floor manager Manjit and the bartender Harry for serving us the mocktails that they have aced in. This is a must must try.

This restaurant is a place for Indian food. Staff is well trained. I ordered Soya chaap, which was very soft and tasty. Paneer khada masala was also nice. However, there is a raw taste of chicken in Afghan murgh masala. Naan was well baked and Gulabjamun was also nice. not to mention, both were very soft. I definitely like to visit again (not for chicken dishes though). Overall I am satisfied with the service and food.

Fantastic… the food was incredible! We ordered the vegetarian platter, samosa, lamb curry, Anjeer Chilgozey Ke Koftey and finally the chai. All delicious, food also came out very quickly. Service was amazing, Harry was super friendly and the entire staff was very helpful. I would highly recommend giving this place a try. Will definitely be back!

Some of the food we ordered was very delicious and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. However, the biryani was not that great, I have had better before. It is simply rice and lamp. No real taste of biryani and it is very spicy even though we did not order the spicy one. Overall, not the best, not the worst.

I went to the place with my office colleagues and friends.

The ambience is great with clean location. They have ample parking place to park your car.

The staff is very humble specially the gentleman who served us food, forgot to ask his name and the manager - Dilawar Singh

We ordered dal makhani, Awadh murg, jalfrezi with some roti and garlic naan.

Since I am vegetarian I had dal makhani and jalfrezi with roti, it tasted amazing. They make the food from the scratch and it was super fresh.. Mind blowing texture of each and every dish.

I would recommend this place for anyone who is looking for authentic Indian food.

Thank you for maintaining the taste which we look for .

Never expected good indian food/restaurant in Richmond hill. Varun (manager) suggested some good dishes which made our dinner amazing. We tried soya chaap which was soft and melting. Last time I had chaap was when I visited Chandigarh and never expected to eat here. Mirch baigan masala as main course was excellent. I am not an eggplant fan but we took a risk to order this vegetable as was highly suggested by Varun. Last but not the least Aam panna drink was excellent and loved every sip of it.

Adrak isn’t a place you simply stumble upon. Located at the base of an office building, in the dark you merely see their glowing sign - if you’re looking for it – then still need to drive around the block to enter the complex at the back of the building. While the restaurant doesn’t benefit from a direct view from Hwy 7, they do occupy sizeable space and is one of the poshest Indian restaurants I’ve visited in Toronto. Adrak also has a contemporary vibe: there’s no glint of red or gold, instead the comforting dark browns and cool creams that is reminiscent of a steak house … if a steak house features a huge tandoor oven in their open concept kitchen.

Diners are treated to an amuse bouche to start, a fried cheese ball that’s could be an arancini topped with a spiced curry. It’s unclear if the bite is authentic, but who cares, it's tasty.

Adrak’s menu is extensive, containing several dishes rarely found elsewhere. Feeling adventurous, we picked out a couple of unfamiliar appetizers to try such as the stuffed potato wheel ($15) where a potato is hollowed out, coated with poppy seeds, and stuffed with a cheese and spinach mixture. While it tastes pretty good, I could do without the

the worst food ever! went it on a sunday night. restaurant wasn't even busy still super slow service took them an hour to bring food which doesn't makes sense cz the food wasn't cooked properly
the two starters that we ordered were raw kebabs weren't cooked properly and potats wheels were hard.
really disappointed will never visit again

Just been there. Had pre-ordered a full raan e sikandari. Upon our arrival the waiter informed the chef to start preparing.

Meanwhile we ordered a non veg sampler, bread basket and a tandoori salad. These were nothing to call home for and was average fare.

Just as we finished the sampler, the raan was served which came without the saffron rice and dal makhni as indicated in the menu. Instead we were given some plain rice and offered some extra naans which was really not necessary since we had the bread basket.

The raan was awesome and something that everyone should try. Well marinated soft meat which almost fell off the bone. After some conversation with the waiter the saffron rice and dal makhni was served which also turned out pretty tasty.

We had to ask the waiter for some steak knives which should have been provided when the raan was served.

All in all we had an excellent evening in spite of the little hiccups and the waiter serving us did a good job of meeting our needs.

Something that we feel quite odd was that they do not accept tips on credit cards. They want to be paid cash. This we found counterintuitive because if one did not carry cash the waiters would miss out on their tips which is really unfair.
The management seriously needs to reconsider because it makes them look cheap.

We would definitely recommend this place.

A very good ambience. The food was good but the portion was not much compared to the price. The dish was very well presented. They had unique combination of dishes. Again, less option for vegetarian.

Came here for lunch for a colleague's birthday. We had a fantastic server; so attentive and he offered great suggestions. We ordered way too much food for our party of 7, but everything was so tasty that we took all the leftovers to go. The decor and vibe of the resto are more upscale, but you can still find more affordable items on the menu. The entire menu is divided into vegetarian vs. non-vegetarian, which I found to be quite helpful. One of the best dishes I had was the Crispy Okra Salad. Definitely give it a try!

This place says they deliver but when you call they do not provide it. This is false advertising. Do not waste your time if you wish to have indian food delivered.

With this posting, this is my 2nd time coming to this very upscale Indian restaurant within the Richmond Hill/Markham area. Before this place was Madras Palace Indian restaurant (buffet style) that was all you can eat.

Food Rating: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5.

TIPS: This restaurant is very hidden from Hwy 7. You can only access this restaurant from one street north of Hwy 7 via (Wertheim) and NOT Hwy 7. This restaurant exists at the base of a business building (really poor location choice IMO). Easy to get to Wertheim via Commerce Valley Drive West.

...

Vinod Jauhari,

Nila Modi & total group of six attend dinner Yesterday May 1st. Service was terrible, very poor. we have to ask for hot water three times. Cake came with without knife & fork. food was OK . very high price for food & there was No Mouth freshening (sonf) Empty container.

Horrible service, there are 7 servers on the floor and it still took over 30mins for our food to arrive. yes we got our appetizer before but we literally got 3 pieces of samosas as an appetizer and there were 2 of us. It took 30 mins for 2 main dishes, rice and bread (and the rice came after), and the bill came to $91 for 2 ppl!! ridiculous. never going back.

Four of us went to Adrak for dinner. We booked ahead and got our table as soon as we arrived. The servers were very knowledgable, helpful and friendly.
We ordered samosas to start and they were delicious. My chicken vindaloo was excellent and not oily at all. The butter chicken was exceptionally good and very flavourful. We had two vegetarian dishes
which were superb.
Overall, a really good experience.

We enjoyed it so much that we took friends there the next week. Service was not good at all. One main course didn't arrive at all and we had to remind wait staff to bring drinks that were ordered.
Two very different experiences a week apart. As a result of the second visit, I have revised the rating from a 4 to a 3.

Poor customer service I have seen ever..We were in at 8:21 pm . Our order came at 9:40 and when we ordered some more Roti and nan, they said our kitchen is closed now. We were not informed that we have to order everything at once.
One gentleman told us that he will take care of our order and he went in kitchen and what we r seeing that the cooks were shouting at him and making our order in so much anger and throwing the Roti on platform . That was really disgusting . Our bill was $175 and nobody want to take this shit after paying this much amount . And in all of this the manager didnt attend us a single time . He even didnt care about this. Very very bad attitude . We will never see you again and thank you so much for ruining my friend's birthday...

Every year, I have the…let’s just say “honor” of visiting Richmond Hill for a conference, and every year I have a brief opportunity to sample its local restaurants. After a depressing encounter with a local sushi restaurant earlier in the evening, and despite nearing my digestive limit, I insisted on finding something better. That would be Adrak, and yes, it was better, and not marginally, but better like Mad Max: Fury Road being better than Transformers 4, like Texas barbecue being better than a rotten skunk found in the septic tank of a slaughterhouse. Hungry?

A year ago, I had just missed their grand opening. Hell, I thought it was closed now, as one door was locked. Inside I found posh fine Indian dining, a rarity I admit. Although one could accuse Adrak’s décor as being inconsistent, I found it refreshing, not settling on the stalwarts of draping one’s entire establishment in shades of brown. Hints of grey and white can be found, an intelligent arrangement of tables, and an exposed kitchen.

About that, a large chunk of the kitchen was enclosed in glass, leading me to believe it was either a chef aquarium or a gigantic sneeze-guard. In truth it was neither, more of a way to see the wonders of Indian cuisine without the misfortune of melting one’s face off. There were two tandoori ovens on display at the front, firing at over 600 degrees. The naan was made right in front you, by far one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen in Indian restaurants…or maybe even restaurants in their entirety. Posh bistros often have open kitchens to showcase cleanliness the proficiency of the kitchen staff. However, with such a concept also creates a lot of noise pollution. Adrak’s solution is inspired and worthy of reproduction. The menu was shockingly though pleasantly conservative, with barely half the options of normal Indian restaurants. This was because of an approach more suited for made-to-order cuisine rather than the refrigerated variety, like those so often seen with buffets. The prices were reasonable as well, perhaps almost too reasonable.

Having eaten not three hours prior, I was looking for something undersized and cheap, and those concepts are usually associated. I expected most big dishes to orbit around $20, so I settled on ordering something circa $16. I figured it was a solid play, focusing on a first page entry. You can probably see where this is going…

What I ended up getting was a dum- biryani, and for those unaware of what an authentic dum-buryani is, it’s a rice dish prepared in iron pot about the size of…ohh…Thunderdome. In it they pack rice, meat, and spices and then cook the entirety apparently on the surface of the sun. The moisture is kept sealed not by an iron or ceramic lid but by naan dough that completely seals what’s inside. I’ve seen this practice done, but only on TV with Gordon Ramsay where they enclosed a goat…like a whole goat. I’ve seen other places offer biryani, and they’ve all astounding, but never have I seen one presented traditionally in this manner. And it was incredible, seriously fantastic…once I let it set for fifteen minutes to cool. It put all other biryanis I’ve had to shame, even the ones I truly enjoyed. It created an echelon I never knew existed. Once experiencing paradise and then finding something better, what do you call it?

I downed it all with a tall glass of red, a recommended Yellow Tale shiraz out of Australia, a good pairing and one I’ll be acquiring upon my return. Despite only making it through half the dish and boxing the rest, I still made a point to order dessert. Gulab Jamun over ice cream, a great dish if the confection hadn’t entered the atmosphere thirty seconds prior. It must be a thing with Adrak that they serve everything at the temperature of which gold particles fuse at the Large Hadron Collider. Suffice to say the ice cream didn’t remain intact very long. Finally, to conclude the experience, I was served a small cup with what looked like a shriveled marshmallow. I was about to assume it was some pallet cleaner until the server poured hot water over the cup and the towel expanded like one of those crappy dinosaurs that took a day to expand to the size of a mushroom. That just raised Adrak outside of this reality. From service, to décor, to the meals served, Adrak is nothing short of perfection. What a shame it resides across the country.

Three days later, as I sat under my hotel sign at 10 pm watching traffic, I devoured the remains of my microwaved leftovers, still a great mean in itself.

Food: 5/5

Service: 5/5

Presentation: 5/5

Value: 5/5

Recommendation: 5/5

Very good food. White table cloth, semi open kitchen, DJ playing music, high ceiling modern open space. It seems to be always busy. You need to make reservation for sure. The waiter said sometimes they move tables to create dance floor for random customers start dancing later in the night.

First time good, second time not great. Our first visit was a weekday lunch. They had a reasonable lunch special and the food was quite good. Our second visit was a weekend lunch. I mentioned upon arrival that their website did not list their hours and that they may want to add this. Instead of appreciating the heads up the manager became defensive and listed all of the hours and said that they were all on the website. Apparently the lunch specials are not available on the weekend so we had to order from the dinner menu. As others have noted it seems extremely expensive for what you get. Despite there being only 4 tables with people our food was very slow. The two curries we ordered we had had our first visit. They were completely different this time, had very little seasoning and overall were just not good. Part way through we ordered an order of naan. After waiting 15 minutes and finishing our meals we asked that they cancel it. Not sure if our first visit or our second is more representative of their typical food/service, but we won't be trying again to figure it out.

Adrak was a decent experience in modern Indian food. The service was good and prices were not ridiculous but a little on the high side From the open kitchen in which one can witness dough tossing and hot tandoori ovens to the large variety of traditional and not so traditional curries, any fan of Indian food will find something to satisfy their palate whether your tastes could be better described as baby (Adrak!) or scary spice.

I’m not overly familiar with Richmond Hill so I needed to type this one into my iPhone. With the help of Siri I was directed into an abandoned parking lot with a small sign stuck in the ground indicating that the restaurant was somewhere in the vicinity. After parking, I walked around to the front of one of the buildings and found the entrance rather easily. It’s quite spacious, complete with a glassed off area housing tandoori ovens pumping out meat and bread at a feverish rate. There is a unique cocktail menu which brings flavours of the Southeast into a potent potable. Although I was tempted, I was deterred by the need to drive back to airport area afterwards.

I’ve read reviews questioning the service at Adrak. Maybe it the fact that it was a Wednesday night but I found it prompt and courteous. The night began with a decent amuse bouche reminiscent of arancini with saffron accents and served atop a tangy tomato sauce.

Tandoori Temptations

We started the night with a trio of protein from the tandoori oven; salmon tikka, bhatti da murgh (chicken legs) and chaamp taajar (lamb chops). Each was seasoned with an array of spices, fired up and attractively served.

Even for a white guy, everything was nicely spiced and didn’t require copious amounts of water nor a call to Telehealth to digest. Despite the extreme heat of the tandoori oven, the meat kept its interior moisture and the traditional sauces were a nice complement.

Next, we decided on a few curries. At the recommendation of my guest, we ordered the Dal Makhani (lentil) and the less traditional Adraki mushroom dishes. He also recommended the Romali Roti as opposed to Naan. I added the Matter Paneer (pea and cheese) and the smokey Bangain Bharta (eggplant).

The lentils were delicious but extremely rich driven by the background taste of lots of butter. One of my favorite characteristics of a curry is the consistency and I found the mushrooms a bit disjointed. The flavours were fine but just didn't blend as nicely as I hoped. The peas were spot on; a nicely balanced mix of sweet and tangy with a perfect texture. I thought the eggplant was decent as well although not as good as the dal or matter. Once again, the spice level was quite acceptable, even for a tongue flexing Caucasian.

While waiting for the curry, I watched the chef toss the roti dough like a pizza and delicately place each piece on a heated globe of stone and wait a mere few seconds for it to heat up and then skillfully fold it into a basket for the table. Now I can barely eat with a fork, so using the roomali roti ($5) as a vessel is always a fun adventure which usually ends up with me spilling something on my shirt or lap. I'd probably be safer with some basmati and a fork but what's the fun in that and plus, I'm not a huge fan of rice.

Adrak was a decent experience in modern Indian food. The service was good and prices were not ridiculous but a little on the high side From the open kitchen in which one can witness dough tossing and hot tandoori ovens to the large variety of traditional and not so traditional curries, any fan of Indian food will find something to satisfy their palate whether your tastes could be better described as baby or scary spice.

"You will be delighted, tempted and intrigued" at this Indian Fine Dining Restaurant in Richmond Hill where each dish is a "revelation", making it good for "the neophyte as well as the gourmand"; "classy without being pretentious", it also offers "unparalleled service", a "beautiful" ambience and top notch service. Want to thank our server Steve and Manager Terry for making it a memorable night for me and my family.

Everything is extraordinary right from the moment you step into this fine dining Indian restaurant. Their service is amazing, food comes out on time unlike some other restaurants, quality of food is superb and its Delicious!!!!
Saurabh Makkar
I have to say that their food is excellent and tastes far better than any other Indian restaurant in GTA. Great ambience with the live DJ playing. Their service is top notch and their staff is very efficient and food comes out on time and tastes amazing. One has to try their specialty dishes and the drinks. Kudos to the team for making my experience an amazing one!! Looking forward to being there again with friends and/or family.

Not worth the wait... and you will wait. The restaurant is beautiful, staff are well versed with ingredients/menu items but the food was mediocre.
We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks and over 40 minutes after that for our food. There are definitely better restaurants in the area where you will pay half as much and have a better experience.
Goldi51
Horror story. Seems to be facade . Horrible stale food.Avoid at any cost
Tina Kovach
Food was definitely good along with the atmosphere. The food is way over priced. I mean you have to pay $18 for a basic curry dish and then an additional amount for rice! Come on rice is always included with curry at any indian restaurant.
Don't bother with the wine. Their selection is terrible.
With the right changes this place could be great. Right now they need to work on pricing and value! Some of the hole in the wall places will have this place beat!

Easily the Best Indian Restaurant in the GTA. Excellent food, kind staff. Nowhere else compares.

TERRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL Manager & service. TERRIBLE, RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL staff. The manager was forcing a mandatory tip of 17% on us, even though we had less than 7 people (their written policy is 7+ people). We mentioned there was a little mistake, as we had less people and he REFUSED to make the change. He said the system put 7 people and it is impossible to fix (he's the one that typed 7 people... not the "system"). Then he said "it's not a lot of money, just pay it". WORST service to say that to a customer. Then, he said he gave us "complimentary soup" and that warrants a large tip (the soup was a shot-glass sized taste sample that we did not ask for). The manager then got other waiters to argue with him. After making a mistake like this, don't fight with your customers - just fix your error. I will NEVER return and will ensure family and friends NEVER visit. Very poor manager ruined the evening, all to lie for a larger tip. All of this because of a RUDE manager with no customer service ability.
Crystaldev2010
Poor Service, Rude staff, Do not recommend. The host at entrance had a massive attitude, cold, no smile, no greeting, no manners, he should be working at the funeral home, when asked for extra napkins he got offended, food was average, service was absolutely poor, waiters are rude, will not recommend, menu selection is very limited, food is not tasty, prefer Bombay Bhel

My New Spot!. Went to Adrak this past weekend - gorgeous ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food. As an avid fan of Indian food, this is becoming my new hot spot for a night out!

**Can't forget to mention their bar - didn't get to try it this time around but it looked stunning.

Pricey and low quantity!. Adrak is a beautiful resturant-no doubt. Staff is very friendly and sophisticated. I am an Indian and have tried many restuarants around the GTA. This is definitely an up-scaled one. I found the prices are bit high as compared to the quantity of the food. The breads are quite expensive as compared to up-scale restuarants in mid-town, which more authentic than Adrak. I hope they bring down the prices in comparison to other places in the neigbourhood. Everything else is good about this place.

You must try!. Absolutely one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to in Canada! Adrak staff is very friendly and lively atmosphere. you guys rock! :)

Best Indian restaurant in the Gta. This is by far the best Indian Eatery in Toronto region. A true 5 star place, staff and food. Only open a week and the place is getting packed. Its my favorite place for dinner.

Hopeless management we went there around 8.30 3 of us but manager standing on door rather then greeting or welcoming us he asked us u have booking I was surprised we said no he went inside and came back and told us no table till 9.30 we wer ready to wait but rather then asking us to have a sit on bar he asked us in very tough way to move out of restaurant I believe he was drunk or he don't know what is hospitality
