OK, maybe this is just me, but I was really wary about going to this place after reading all of the bad reviews. But I've been here three times now and it's been fine. The food was always good and came out quickly and none of the wait staff have ever given me issues. The one thing I don't quite understand is that 2/3 times I've been here, the place looks like it has a lot of seating, but we still have to wait for a little while for them to ready a table (never more than a couple of minutes tho). But still - huh? Those tables look ready to eat off of to me...Other than that...no complaints. Maybe they are reading the reviews and trying to improve.
Minor service issues, food so and so.... This particular location has been criticized heavily on quality of service (see other urbanspoon reviews). On the day I visited the restaurant there were some services issues (e.g., no host/hostess when we arrived and we had to wait about 5 minutes until somebody came; waiter brought an incorrect order but this was fixed quickly) but, on the whole, service was acceptable. The hamburger was below average, in my opinion, although the sweet potato fries that came with it were pretty good. The plate was decorated with a wilted piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato (I would have not let that lettuce leave the kitchen if I was in charge; it is best not to serve it at all than to serve a piece of lettuce that is not totally crisp). Tortellini was overcooked and sauce was average at best. Spinach salad was average. The Swiss Chalet is, of course, a chain restaurant with reasonably good chicken; it is the type of place that one would go for an inexpensive meal of convenience. With a bit more attention to service and quality of food issues, expectations of dinners will be met.
We had a bad experience back in December- wrote 20 min survey and had heard nothing back. (not sure where those surveys go??) HOWEVER we thought we would try once more last evening , and everything was great!
A chat with manager about this reassured me that we must have fallen through the cracks and was desiring to compensate for our Dec. experience.
We did not want any compensation ,... but was so glad to see that they are really trying to do better and are so willing to listen to concerns. We will be supporting our S.S. here in Regina, it is a nice quiet place to dine!
Pleasantly surprised.. We went for dinner on Monday night, It was quite busy. We were greeted immediately and asked if we wanted a booth or a table. We were shown to a booth and given menus. The server, Ronaldo I believe, showed up right away and took our drink order. The menu looked good. Lots of variety including healthy options. I only went to the old restaurant once and wasn't very impressed. This new one seems a lot better. Several of us ordered the chicken pot pie with salad and a choice of dressing. My husband had the chicken and a baked potato.
The food didn't take long to arrive. Everything tasted good. There was kind of our party who is very fussy and even he thought it was good. I have no complaints. The restaurant was pleasant. The service and the food were both excellent. We would definitely go there again.
It's a bit off putting to see how many people complained in the first few weeks. Considering they had hundreds of people come every single day, some slack should be given. Service has really been turned around since my first visit! Great, friendly people, and the food has never disappointed. Management seems to have it figured out now. I agree with a later comment, people love to voice negative experiences but nobody takes time with the good ones. I was impressed and will continue coming back to Swiss Chalet!
Great pasta!!. First, I have to comment on the post about the waitress chatting about her 4 kids and husband... The girls and guys are all young!!, well definitely not old enough for his story.. so, sorry he had a bad experience..
Second, awesome pasta with the garlic cheeze loaf appy paired with it!!
Too bad no bar/lounge set up though.. by hey its swiss chalet..a family kinda place. Kudos to the staff doing their best when it HAS to be crazy hectic for them!! I will eat there again when in Regina. Thanks!
Better than Great!. Went to swiss chalet tonight for supper. There was a pretty big line up at the doors when I walked in, but the girls working the front did a great job of getting everyone sat quickly. Props to them, since it appeared the whole restaurant was full! My server, Adam, made the experience great! He was very friendly and outgoing. My food, the 1/4 chicken meal with fries, was good aswell. arrived quickly, and was piping hot! I enjoyed my experience here tonight and would recommend it to anyone looking for a chicken dinner.
Just excellent! The food was delicious, and the service was fantastic! I have been missing Swiss Chalet since it left more than a decade ago. I wouldn't hesitate to go again, however I would avoid the peak time around 5 pm, as it's pretty busy.
Just Wait a minute.... I never go to a restaurant during it's first month.
I took the wife and two kids there last night and guess what, they have had some time to work the bugs out and despite it being VERY busy (line up inside the restaurant(more on that later)) the food and service were both as good as one could expect from a mediocre fast food chain trying to be fine dining.
Now all that being said my complaints are two, both having to do with the entrance. First off the restaurant resides in one of the coldest, windiest parts of Canada, as patrons are coming and going it is important to shield your guests inside from the elements outside, secondly the reception area can comfortably accommodate 4 maybe 6 people at best then they have to line up in the walkway that runs down the center of the restaurant impeding both server and exiting guest traffic. Address these two issues and one is in for a fairly unremarkable time as can be expected in a majority of the SYSCO serviced establishments in Regina, after all... Ya gotta eat right? -meh-
The start up bugs are in the past!. Went today with a friend, for the first time and had a great experience. We got in at 11:45 am. We had drinks in hand within about two minutes (my beer was ice cold, the way I love it). After ordering, not a word of a lie, we had hot meals in about FIVE minutes! I had the chicken, which is the same as it was years ago (not the very best out there, but definitely a good meal) and my buddy loved his ribs (1/2 rack was huge!). Ella, our server, was about the friendliest waitress I've had in years (as good or better than any high class establishment).
Don't worry, the growing pains of start up are over (as any new one has). Glad to see it back again.
