We ordered the $30 omakase and it came with 11 pieces of sushi, miso soup and a cone sushi. Great value and great sushi. The fish was fresh and the chef was very sweet and happy to all his customers. Cute little mom and pop shop that has a lot more to offer than you'd expect.
Call to reserve for a spot at the bar where you can watch the chef prepare the sushi.
Full review of the omakase with photos on my blog.
We came for the omakase and it did not disappoint! This little place is run by a husband and wife team that truly make it feel like home. If you want the full experience, make sure to call and reserve a spot up at the sushi bar so that you can be served the set piece by piece. We did not do this and sat at a table. We ordered a chicken karaage as well that was well cooked and delicious!
We had lunch at this place on Family Day, the 12th Feb 2018. This is a family run restaurant and we thought it is a great day to try this place. We were six of us and we enjoyed their food. Authentic Japanese cuisine, reasonably priced and good variety of dishes.

By now, I’m sure many of you Vancouverites have heard of Matsuzushi, a Japanase mom and pop establishment located in Port Moody best known for their affordable omakase. Omakase is a Japanese phrase that translates to ‘I’ll leave it up to you’ where patrons entrust the chef to serve the best he has to offer according to what’s available.
I first heard about this place on instagram and saw lots of pictures of the omakase. It looked really good so we made a trek out to Port Moody for it. I called ahead of time to make a reservation because we didn't wanna go all the way out there and for there to be no tables. When we arrived, there were just two other tables. I guess cause I made reservations, we were given seats right in front of the chef. We could see him making all the sushi, which was actually pretty cool. We didn't even need to say we wanted the omakase. Every other table had it too, so I guess it was a given.
The nigiri came piece by piece and was placed by the chef onto a plate in front of us. To be honest, half the time, I wasn't sure what I was eating. But the fish was all so good and fresh. Some pieces were seared, others had just a stroke of sauce on it. The last item we received was the negitoro cone. The only complaint I have is that they used pink ginger instead of the yellow one. But that was really minor, considering the food was great. I would definitely come back for this.
Welcome to my blog where I share my opinions on being an adult and post my reviews of stuff I buy and things I eat. Jan 29 BIRRY EATS: MATSUZUSHI. Authentic Japanese Cuisine. Sometimes you just need to appreciate the simplicity of sushi without the dressing and presentation of non-authentic sushi (aka Sushi Town, Sushi Garden, Sushiaholic).
We ordered omakaze (which means you let the chef decide what you will eat) and it was so good! It was all nigiri and a few aburi. The ingredients are so fresh and the chef is very nice and friendly. Bring an empty stomach, eat with your hands and you would definitely want to go again!

Matsuzushi is a new authentic Japanese restaurant that replaces the former Fresh Combo House. The decor inside is very simple, and it feels almost like a food mart rather than a restaurant. It appears to be a husband-and-wife operation, with the husband making the sushi and the wife preparing the cooked food
Very great service and kind owners. They greeted us warmly and was very attentive. The food was well priced, fast and delicious as well. I will definitely be back. :)
