This is our "Go To" place between Sudbury and Barrie when we travel. Always fresh and delicious. So much better than fast food.
Great coffee, food and conversation, for a coffee shop you will be shocked with the quality of the food
My family stopped at this place on our way to Sudbury as a pitstop to grab a coffee and to use the lavatory.
It is near a Tim Hortons, but instead of visiting a chain, we decided to visit a locally run restaurant for business. It was meant to be an in and out thing, but we ended up surpassing that by at least 20 minutes.
Upon walking into Richard's Coffee, there was a pleasant aroma and a glass refrigerator showcasing all their baked goods. There were jars filled with freshly baked cookies, and I opted for a chocolate chip cookie but saw the cheese cake and immediately changed my mind.
The rest of my family saw the baked goods and we ordered to share a coconut cream pie, a chocolate cream pie and a Nanaimo bar. I also ordered a hot chocolate.
The hot chocolate was made with water and not steamed milk. This was understandable since it was $1.43 for a medium. It was a little watery for my liking but I was able to move off of that.
The cheese cake was amazing. They used a proper brand of graham crackers for the crust, which was buttery and not too crumbly. The cream cheese was softened and the berry topping was not too sweet.
My personal favourite was the coconut cream pie. Even though I personally was not a fan of the generic pie crust they used, (I would have opted for a gingersnap pie crust myself), the filling was not too dense and had the perfect amount of coconut flavour. The generous portion of whipped cream atop the pie was REAL whipped CREAM and NOT "whipped topping". On top of the whipped cream, there was lovely toasted shredded coconut.
The chocolate cream pie has a slight banana taste to it. I was able to taste the banana, but the company I was with tasted pure chocolate.
It also had a generic pie crust and whipped cream on top. The pie was tasty, but the banana flavour only I was able to taste was slightly off-putting.
Last but not least, the Nanaimo bar was a total miss. It was sickly sweet and I was unable to taste other flavours without the sugar masking everything.
On the way back to Toronto, we stopped here again and ordered soups, tea biscuits and cookies.
The soup was extremely salty. My mom and sister had a few bites before giving up on it.
Tea biscuits were decent.
The cookies (we tried chocolate chip, peanut butter, and molases) were all delicious.
All in all, we came to the realization Richard's Coffee has really good baked goods. If you're on your way somewhere and stop in Parry Sound, I know you may be tempted to stop at Tim's or the Harvey's but give Richard's a chance.
They have really good prices and the staff is pretty friendly for the most part. Also, the portions for the baked goods are pretty big. I enjoy the concept of more bang for your buck and Richard's offers that.
Great breakfast options, good coffee. I especially love the Deluxe Breakfast Bagel (see picture) with everything on it it's the best breakfast sandwich in Parry Sound. I also love the soup and sandwich combo for lunch absolutely delicious they also have great prices on just about everything.
This is a great place to eat. The food is terrific and the staff are friendly and efficient. The staff really take pride in their food. They make their own soup - it is flavourful, really tasty and very hearty. The sandwiches are made to order and the filling portion is very ample. The desserts are wonderful and the portions are large - great for sharing. The coffee is perfect. Great value for your money - one feels well fed at the end of the meal. Highly recommended. We have enjoyed every visit - its on our list of stops whenever we come into Parry Sound. Family friendly.
Great coffee, and you've gotta try the date cookies! Very nice place and good price
Great coconut cream pie. Slightly dated coffee shop reminiscent of Country Style in the 90s, but never updated.... thats not a bad thing.... the food options are considerably better than a standard chain cafe though. Great baked goods, and lovely sandwiches. A great local haunt.
Bright and clean. A pleasant place to go and meet friends. There's always several types of delicious homemade soups and sandwiches on offer. Make sure you check out the homemade desserts on offer, yum!
Walked out with a tea and an egg and ham bagel sandwich for less than $4. They actually make it when you order and not pre done eggs from a warmer. Can't beat 99 cent pastries. Very good.
We come this way once a year to camp in provincial park s, but we ALWAYS STOP BY RICHARD'S COFFEE! Grab a coffee, sandwich, baked good, soup...you will never be sorry! Stay and enjoy a few days in Parry Sound. We'd move here if we could.😉🏕️☕
