Fantastic food and wonderful service by Matt. We came here as a group of 6 and they accommodated us immediately. The space is very clean, comfortable seats and all the staff very attentive. A must try to those who enjoy hot pot. Will certainly be back!
My absolute favourite place to eat in Ottawa. Even my picky eater brother likes this place! So this is definitely on my list to take my parents when they visit me, because we do not have a restaurant like this back in my home city.
Service is pretty good considering we don't really need any service. They bring your broth and you serve yourself at the buffet line - even drinks are self-serve. The only time servers come to your table is to refill your broth or ask if you want more lamb and beef. They do this pretty often so I have no complaints.
One thing I noticed is many things are mislabeled so people with dietary restrictions beware. I love the variety of vegetables, meats, fish cakes, etc. they have. Certainly a great place to eat if you don't do carbs in your diet, you can load up on so much protein. I prefer to eat with individual bowls here so you can season the broth however you like - they only give two choices unfortunately, spicy or not spicy, so you have to season it yourself. I like putting cilantro and peanut satay in my broth.
I wouldn't recommend coming on a dinner rush hour. A bit later or earlier in the day is good, less lineups, so less heat and less people cooking in the restaurant. When it's packed it can get super humid, sweaty, and gross. It feels like a sauna in there and I don't mean that in a good way.
With the price of hotpot meat going up in grocery stores and just the sheer variety of food at Mongolian hot pot, this place is a must go if you are hungry!
Wonderful. We try to go once a month - love the variety and getting to cook and eat just the things you want - love the lamb plate and the mushrooms and it is so nice to just sit and take your time to eat - never any pressure to hurray... even my grandchildren love to come with us - they are 4 and 6 and have fun with this place.
Hot & spicy =). To my knowledge, this is the only restaurant in Ottawa that specializes in hot pot. The only other place that offers it that I've tried is Saigon Pho, but it is Vietnamese style so it's a little bit different. The spicy broth is a definite must-try. You can get a split bowl so you can try both spicy and non-spicy, but if you can handle it the spicy broth is so worth it. The whole concept of the restaurant is that you not only cook yourself, but choose your own ingredients and basically serve yourself - so don't be surprised if the service is not amazing (however, last time I went the staff seemed polite and friendly). Also be fore-warned that you will leave with the smell of spices in your hair and on your clothes. But in the end, it's worth it for a filling and savoury all you can eat meal!
Tasty simple meal. Not for everyone, it's kind of an experience the first time. The original broth is very good and I love all the different foods you can sample and cook in the broth.
Great food Simple atmosphere Amazing results. Good food, but not for the faint of stomach quails eggs, tripe, and some rather unusual fungi await those who are willing to try them. The menu also feature more traditional items such as dumplings, lamb, beef, pork, and chicken. The hot broth is really, really spicy, but order a combination bowl so you can try both. Their might also be tea boiled eggs, I tried them but I can't be sure if they were tea boiled or just an unusual type of egg.
Amazing. I was a little sceptic about the whole experience, the place was sort of drab, with a few beautiful artifacts hanging on the walls, it used to be a merrry wooden walled tavern. But the three of us were amazed by the good results our cooking got. The final broth was delicious, the spices just enough and the meat and veggies mixed together boiled to perfection. Needless to say the little one loved it, as he was gathering like a little shehaprd all the ingredients ans some more. We promsied to come back after he had profusely thanked me and gave me a hug for the fun he had had. Plus parking was a no issue in that busy drab part of the city. Servoice was swift courteous and most patient with the litlle deputy cook who was fascinated by the various touch knobs controling the heat of the pot. Also the place filled up rapidly to a good dozen people enjoying their experience -another sign that the place has its raison d'être. I am now living in fear that my review will encourage more to come with their delightful little ones!
This place is a gem.
Cool concept.... I like the idea of this place, but the atmosphere is less than appealing. The food and service were great but need to spruce this place up a bit.
So much fun and such a good price for so much food!
