Amazing home made Indian cuisine. Love the friendly service and that butter chicken damn! Thank you for everything
The service was wonderful and the food excellent! We will definitely be back.
I am a big fan of this place - especially the Chicken Dhansak and Chana Masala - take out or eat in, I can't seem to order anything else because I love it so much. The chef's touch is what truly makes it. The flavour is incredible and I can't even compare it to other places I have tried. Thank you for the great food. :)
The best Indian restaurant we have been to in a long time. Great food, good quantity { enough for 2 meals for seniors }, excellent mango juice, and good service. Just wish they were open some Sundays after morning Church service.
We go here twice a month. Always great good and a warm welcome.
Absolutely delicious each time we go. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is perfect. The restaurant is always clean. Highly recommended!
great service and amazing food!! each main course can easily be for two people
Food was good. Nice atmosphere. Owner is so nice and friendly.
Stopped in for dinner on Saturday night; spur of the moment. Pleasant surroundings with subtle background Indian music. Ordered the Bahji Onion appetizer; perfectly cooked and piping hot. I had the traditional beef curry; boss had the butter chicken. We split rice and nan. Portions were perfect; we felt sated, but not stuffed or miserable. Chicken was sweet with the occasional hint of heat. Curry was marvelous, meat fork tender and delicious. Price for 2 with tip less than $50.00; no alcohol on this night. We will definitely be back.
Mukut in Orleans. First, delicious! Second, why did I wait so long to go? Nice quiet little location in Orleans, friendly courteous service and some of the yummiest Indian food I've had! Do your self a favour and check out this little gem in Orleans. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. We had the Maharaja dinner and it was fantastic!
Great Food...But Call First. I've been to Mukut's new Orleans location three times. It's been delicious each and every outing. This evening I checked the website for their hours and got in my car to head out for some take out. When I arrived it was closed, despite the posted hours. I called and left a message, and the owner returned my call saying they close on one Monday evening of each month. I ended up having to go to an inferior Indian restaurant and spending more money for less. (I know, "first world problems")
To his credit, the owner told me he would do "something special" for me next time. Can you call seeming random hours and unadvertised closures bad customer service? I don't know. But I was disappointed in them this evening believing they should have posted the closure on their website. I'll see what consideration he will offer me next time.
Fantastic meal! It was so tasty I went back the next night. :) Ordered takeout both times. A tone of flavour and a good amount of spice which I love. Highly recommend the Chicken Dhansak. It's very spicy - do not order if you dont like spicy stuff. Best I've ever had. I cannot eat Naan, but my husband said it was very good and fresh. I'm just glad we tried it for ourselves.
Flavourful, and best nan bread!. My husband had enjoyed lunch at the New Mukut restaurant in Orleans recently and loved the welcome and the food. He invited me to return with him for dinner last evening, and we really enjoyed it.
The place looks clean and fresh, finished with tablecloths and cloth napkins. The welcome was warm and the service prompt without being rushed. We bought wine by the glass, and the portions were generous. All the food was fabulous -- the tastiest Indian food I remember. We shared onion badgi as an appetizer, and then we shared a nan bread, vegetable rice, chicken tika masala and Kashmiri chicken curry. The nan was fluffy and buttery - amazing. The vegetable rice was scrumptious, and the flavours of the chicken and sauces were lovely.
Another couple visiting the restaurant for the first time and starting out skeptical commented to us that their meal had been excellent too.
We will definitely be back.
We just got back from dinner at Mukut! We had a Groupon! The service was excellent and our service was efficient and so sweet!
Our food was delicious and came quickly! We were the only ones in the restaurant which shocked me as the food was so good!
I highly recommend this restaurant! Just as good as Mukut on Rideau!
Groupon Deal. We purchased the Groupon which consisted of $30 value for $15. This was pretty much them taking $30 off of our bill. The menu they use is the same as the Rideau St location, however they don't offer all of the same wines and beer at the Orleans location. All in all, it was a good dinner. We had vegetable samosas to start, butter chicken, beef curry, palao rice and an order of Nan each. We were full by the end. We also split a 1L of wine between the 2 of us. The servers were very quick to seat us and serve us. This place is very small but you don't feel squished. With the groupon deal it was a great dinner for a very low price. Good experience and would go again.
Give it a chance!. I had just made reservations and plans to meet another couple at this reataurant when I read the reviews...neddless to say my exoectations were low and I was heistant to go through with our plans....
I am happy to report that we had a delightful time... good food and very attentive service!
The lamb vindalloo was delicious as was the shrimp dish we chose.
The naan was cooked perfectly, was hot and fluffly.... mmmmm!!
The service was great...making sure we had all we needed, that the food was good and the water was refilled often...
Give this place a chance or a second chance....you will have a nice time and a yummy, spicy, flavourful exoerience!!
Myself, my boyfriend and his 9 year old son all liked the food. The beef vidaloo was spicy and too hot for me (I'm a wimp), but the boys loved it!

Good indian food and great service! Will come again!
Good food, bad service. We decided to try Mukut on what appeared to be opening week. We were disappointed that we were ignored by both waitresses and were left awkwardly standing at the door until we finally flagged done of them down and asked to be seated. We finally were able to relax but noticed people coming in after us and being seated and served right away. It took about 20 minutes to get a drink order in (we had to flag down one of the waitresses again).
Our orders were taken, but still the drinks never came. About 30 minutes later we were about to pack up and leave when finally a gentleman, who seemed to be the owner, brought us our food. We still hadn't received our drinks at this point, to which he was very apologetic, and brought them promptly.
Overall the food was delicious, we had the butter chicken and it was quite good. Asking for a refill from one of the waitresses was impossible, we were ignored by them the entire time.
This is very unfortunate as the owner was very sweet and accommodating, the food was great, but his staff were just terrible. He even asked us afterwards when we were paying how we liked everything and if we had any suggestions. I hate to rate this place down as food quality is more important to me than service. I wouldn't want to discourage people from at least trying it out, so as someone mentioned previously, try it out if you want a good meal and aren't in a rush to go anywhere.
Half Decent, was surprised. I love Indian, probably my favorite food. So I was excited when a new restaurant popped up within walking distance of my house on Portobello and Innes. I first saw it when walking by on my way to Broadway...and was unimpressed. Not that I'm totally unsympathetic to the plights of the modern restauranteur, but when you walk by a place and the brand new carpet already looks old and dated, all the tables are balanced by napkins, etc, well you probably have cause to worry.
Me and my wife decided to try it last night. We went in, and to our non-surprise no one else was there. OK, bad sign #1. Before eating I went to the washroom. I ALWAYS check out washroom's in restaurants as I believe it's a sign of general caring of your restaurant. Yikes. Not dirty thank God, but also unfinished... you could tell there was only 1 coat of paint everywhere, you could see the old colors bleeding through, some places weren't painted, etc, etc. Not a good sign! At this point I was scared.
Anyways, onto the food! For appetizers, we ordered the standard Chicken Tikka, Veg Samosa and Mulligatawny Soup - staples that I always like to try. The Tikka was brutal, very bad. Dry and flavorless. And it was the first thing that came (oh I should mention its bizarre how the very green server brings things out...one at a time, even entrees...). Next came the Samosas. Slight improvement, but unimpressed. I've definitely had better grocery store ones. Finally my Mulligatawny - pretty good! Way too much salt but otherwise the flavor at least was there, there was a decent amount of spice and although I like my Mulligatawny to have more veggies than this one had, the flavor and consistency of the broth made up for it. Just a little too much salt though....but at least I found something I would order again.
Now onto the entrees. We ordered 2 Rice Paulo (which I though usuallly should have some raisins, peas, dried nuts, something, but was just plain white Basmati rice), 2 Naan's, Beef Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala and Curried Shrimp. I have to say I was surprised that it was pretty decent after our very underwhelming apps. The Vindaloo was terrific, very spicy (we asked for extra) and we were not dissapointed. The Shrimp Curry had a distinct flavor and was pretty tasty - however we didn't care for the Masala dish which to me tasted like a pineapple based sauced, which was weird. I do have to say though it counter-acted the very hot Vindaloo nicely. The Naan for me was disappointing though. I thought it was dry and could not taste any butter or garlic. Too bad, because one thing I find is that even the worst Indian joints should be able to throw together some decent Naan.
All in all, it was kind of a mixed bag at Mukut. We were beside a table that came in after us and they sounded like they were loving their dishes, so that's good.
I think this place has a long way to go though especially if they want to compete with Rangoli and Pearl of India, who in my opinion are both better and WAY more polished.
The service, as I mentioned was very green. Not ONCE did she ask how our food was (which you would think is standard) and overall was very quiet. We had to summon her to ask for the bill, for example. When you have 2 tables, and 1 is completely done and just staring at each other, I would think it would be common sense to ask, no?
Anyways I'm probably being overly harsh. Would I go back to Mukut? Probably. They have a very long way to go though if they want to stay, I definitely won't rave about it.
