I went there for lunch and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The bento box I had, had a bit of everything however I also ordered the Korean ribs as well that came with rice. The service was superb and I’d definitely be going there again!
I loved the food! I had the bibimbap and pork gyoza and they were both delicious and well priced. There was a good mix of lesser known and popular dishes on the menu, all decently priced. The service was okay, though nothing special and I don't recall the decor or ambiance being anything special either, but it was still and all around good experience.
I've been here about 3 times now, for AYCE. Overall, it is one of the only Korean BBQ places, and the quality is pretty decent. But there are a few things to be aware of.
The options for the AYCE menu is actually quite small. The main attraction, which is the grilled meats, they only offer chicken, beef or pork. In my experience, and everyone I've gone with, the pork is by far the best, and the chicken is the least impressive.
They don't tell you, or advise you on how much you should order at a time, and how much can fit on the grill and be cooked reasonably. I found ordering 3-4 portions to be optimal. However, the first time we ordered more than that, and they just dumped it all on the grill, and meat more boiled than grilled. Just something to be aware of, order smaller quantities at a time.
I've only been seated upstairs once, but I found the service was absolutely horrible upstairs, but downstairs it was pretty reasonable. I haven't found them very friendly in general, but usually efficient enough, but upstairs we were mostly ignored and never really checked on. Any time we wanted anything, we had to press the buzzer a couple times, and then still flag someone down. Additionally, their AC was broken and this was a day that was 30C, and there were numerous gas grills going upstairs too, which made it not very comfortable.
Overall, I'll definitely go back, but personally I don't think I'd bother if I were being seated upstairs again.
I went for all you can eat with a group of friends. Service was awesome, really quick, friendly, and accommodating for our rather large group. The food was delicious as well. My only complaint would be that there isn't enough selection during lunch, but you get what you pay for. Would recommend, will probably go again.
Okay . So I went with my asian boys tonight. We sat 9 people. It was good. We did individual orders. おいし I ordered kimchi chigae. Great order. It was 14.50 after tax and tip. So I thought it was good. I think korean bbq would have been better to have.
Reserved a table for Korean BBQ ahead of time, so no issues there. Did AYCE Bbq, not disappointed. Delish kimchi, japchae, bibimbap, mandu and marinated chicken. Bulbogi cuts were tough. Thirsty as hell after...they must use msg bcs we all drank 6 glasses of water, then 4 more after. Service is ok. Seemed like one of the servers had attitude when we asked for more meat, but our main server was fine.
it is the best korean restaurant in Ottawa.
we tried bulgogi, tofu soup and bibimbap.. all are very tasty.
all the side dishes are also good too.
i would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
i didn't give it full score is because the price is higher than other korean restaurants in ottawa, and the service was not friendly.
the service was the only part that needs to improve..
Big portions, friendly and quick service -- will come back for sure!. We went as a family of 4 (2 adults, 4 year old and 9 months old) on a Sunday night for dinner. We ordered the AYCE Table BBQ and asked if they could cook it inside since we didn't want our kids to be so close to the table BBQ. They said no problem and the food came out so quick!
From the AYCE Table BBQ meal at $23 per adult and $4 for our 4 year old, we ordered:
1 Pork
1 Chicken
1 Bibimbak (beef)
4 beef dumplings
1 side dishes
1 Korean pancakes
3 Miso soups
2 Rice
1 Jab Chae
Everything came out very quickly, I don't even remember waiting. The meat dishes were massive so beware when you are ordering. We probably should have just stuck with 1 meat (pork or chicken or beef). The bibimbak was very good. My 4 year old ate a bit of everything except for the kimchi. Even my 9 months old ate miso soup with tofu and rice with some chicken.
There were many servers/waiters on the floor. The guys were all very nice and humoured my 4 year old. They always had smiles on their faces.
This was a great family experience and we will definitely come again! Thanks!
Favourite. My favourite place for all you can eat. I haven't tried the non-AYCE menu so I can't speak for that, but the meat is very good - ask for chilli flakes to add to your BBQ for extra flavour. Also love the fried mandu and korean pancakes... soo good. My friends and I are regulars and we love it every time.
Good atmosphere, authentic food. The atmosphere was inviting and friendly, the food was authentic, and very fresh (fish soup), the menu is extensive,
Never Open For Business. I'm editing this review due to recent events :
1. They never seems to be open. I went there 4 times and during business hours they put up a handmade sign saying they are closed because of reasons;
2. They never awnser the phone, so we can never know if they're open or not or have questions awnsered;
The food (or from what I remember, since I can't seem to go back) is pretty good, but the service is really bad; the waiters/tresses are always in a bad mood or are unhappy to serve you. They get it done, but the effort is minimal. I also know some shady stories about how they ''choose'' their customers based on their looks, but it never happened to me before.
Great food, Nice people and super fun for the kids! Cool it yourself right at your table!
Just came back from a great dinner at Koreana. We were seated on the second floor and service was fast and food was good. We ate the all you can eat offering and we thought it was great. Will definitely go again.
Both a hit and a miss. Good food, but overall poor service.
Not bad enough to stop me from going back, but it is rather terrible.
Have never tried the buffet, all you can eat or sushi, however.
KOREANA...its wonderful for all you can eat. You get to grill your beef, pork and/or chicken. Choose from many appetizers such as korean pancakes, dumplings, soup, bowl of rice (bulgogi, bibipmap - ok not sure if its spell that way), maybe 2 type of sushi and other things that I can't remember. For me, this worth more than 20$, considering that a stone-bowl of bibipmap is about 9$ alone.
I love the food! Thee hee XD
I go there every now and then, but especially when I have a craving for tasty food and dellicious smelling food!
Oh and people are right about the service. There's a waitress who is super nice and quick to bring the food (even after 2 orders) but it's not the same for all of them. Once I went for a late lunch and there was this woman about 50-60yo (well I guess, its hard to said with asians) she seem really grumpy and had barely a smile. I don't know if she was afraid to crack her face or something.
Overall, I like it!
The food is delious and service is great. They are quick when you ask for a 2nd or 3rd order
Excellent BBQ pork and complimentary appetizers. Koreana's BBQ is so spicy, succulent, and delicious that I've ordered every single time I've visited. I recommend getting them to do your meat in the kitchen, they have a way of doing it that is far tastier than table BBQ, and perhaps more hygienic as well. (Not that Koreana isn't clean, it certainly seems very clean, with fresh, good quality food.)
Free appetizers (either miso soup or vegetable pancake) and accompanying Korean side dishes always make me feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Two can eat heartily here for $20-25, and it's a different kind of cuisine from many of the other standard offerings in Ottawa. The beef dumplings and tempura are both excellent starters.
Service is sometimes Koreana's weak point, sometimes seemingly more as a result of a language barrier -- or shyness, strangely -- than anything else. Nonetheless it never impacts on the actual meal, it just doesn't necessarily enhance it.
Food is delicious. Service is mediocre on a busy day. Friendly service on a quite day. Lunch specials are reasonably priced and delicious. Very generous with their all you can bulgogi, chicken and pork. A definite must try.
Good, but.... I like this place but I do not agree with this place serving authentic korean bbq. The most important component of the korean bbq is sang-chu (lettuce leafs), few other veggies (sesame plant leafs, garlic pieces, etc) and spicy bean paste (to make ''Ssam''). In my opinion, this is the most important thing in Korean bbq and sadly koreana doesn't give any.
Authentic krn bbq. This is the first korean bbq that i've been to that is actually AUTHENTIC! :) service was ok, they seemed cold at first, but they will warm up later. we had the dinner all you can eat bbq, it included chicken, bugogi(marinated beef), and pork, they were ALL very delicious, different from the chinese opened krn bbq's i eat in Toronto. in addition, the all you can eat also included, salmon sushi, california rolls, krn side dishes (kimchi, glass noodles, sweet potatoe, seaweed), miso soup, even a full size bibimbap. ice cream is extra charge so are drinks. the only thing they didn't have in the all you can eat is seafood. But i thought it was enough:) i would go there again for sure! PRICE WAS $19.95. :)
Excellent food and service. They even gave us complimentary tasting dishes. Nice, clean decor. Very impressed.
Good food but bad service when it's busy. I've been to Koreana twice - once at a quiet lunchtime, and once on a busy Saturday. The food is good, but on the Saturday the service was pretty bad - both inattentive and when we did ask for something (e.g. glasses of water) it never came. Doing "table food" with a cooker on the table was fun, although I'm not sure what the benefit is other than entertainment value. We got the mixed meat platter and it was quite generous - we got three platters and it was more than enough 5 adults.
Although they have in-table electric stoves, apparently they can't use them because they draw too much electricity (which is understandable from a technical perspective as a single electric stove draws a lot of power, let alone an entire restaurant full of them - but they should have provisioned for the power needs when buying the stoves). So instead of the in-table stove we used a table-top gas stove (which might be a bit tricky if you have young kids, although we didn't have a problem with it).
Overall I recommend the food (and clearly lots of other people like the food, as it was packed on Saturday) but I recommend going at a less-busy time if you want to get reasonable service.
