Love this little family run restaurant - food is well cooked and delicious... only a few tables but the waiter is attentive and helpful. Only problem can be parking, it is at the back down a little lane.
There is one step into the dining area.
This is has to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Ottawa! Or at least the one with the creamiest butter chicken. I've been here several times with friends and family' and every time is as good as the last. The service is excellent and I love that they bring a warming tray to keep your food warm as you eat. Only downside is that they do not accept debit (cash or credit only!). Overall an excellent dining experience.
Best Indian food in Ottawa!. Small location that gets packed often which tells you how good the food is! They are often short staffed and cannot keep up with the rush, so I recommend doing takeout if you don't want to wait long.
For appetizers, I recommend the onion bhaji and the prawn puri. I wouldn't recommend the shammi kabab.
For entrees, I recommend the chicken tikka, shrimp methi gosht, and chicken biriyani.
I love this place! Best prawn puri ever and the garlic naan is phenomenal. I've tried a lot of their curries. My favourite is the vindaloo, but the madras is great too. Highly recommend!
Amazing!. I had such a great experience here with both the food and the service! The restaurant was small, but I thought it was charming. We had the platter for two (which included the tandoori chicken, lamb, naan, and others) along with the butter chicken. The platter was delicious, but what blew me away was the butter chicken dish. It was so good we ordered a second to take home. It tasted exactly as a butter chicken should - not spicy but had great flavour. Our waitress was very nice, we chatted with her a bit and found out this is her family's restaurant, with her father as the chef. Super nice family with delicious and authentic food. Doesn't get much better than that! I can't wait to go back and try their other dishes.
Namaste India. I have been to Namaste three times and had an excellent experience each time. The samosas are good. The lamb vindaloo is reasonably hot and very flavourful. The biryani is exceptional! The chicken madras is also quite good, and the staff are extremely prompt with water and drink refills. Highly recommended.
Delicious delicious food. Truly!
Chicken dhansak was amazing.
Lamb vindaloo was so spicy and delicious. Enjoyed with naan, rice and samosa apps.
My partner and I ordered two more entrees for take out: the Ceylon chicken dish and some other beef dish called Bhutan (lol -- something like that). Seriously expect to wait an hour - at least for food. So definitely don't go when you're starving. The service was ok but sweet and friendly. It seems that a lot of people are unhappy with the wait times but I think it demonstrates that the food is actually made fresh to order. Great place. Will be back. But take cash and credit over $20 only.
Decent, but not the best in town. Although I didn't dislike my meal, I think there are better Indian restaurants both nearby and further afield. Light of India and Taj Mahal (in that order) are better bets, as is Sitar downtown. The service was kind, although timid.
PS: I may try it again at some point and update this review, since thiswas only based on one visit in 2012.
I'd go back. There is definitely room for improvement as many people have pointed out, some of the staff could be friendlier that's for sure, I experienced the same pointing to our reserved table and my boyfriend found them rather abrupt when he made the reservation. I'm also not a fan of how they don't advertise that they don't take Interac, this is not a practice I appreciate in restaurants. But in the end she did ask us how we found our meal and there was an older woman who was smiling and pleasant. I think it might be cultural thing.
However, using the Groupon deal we definitely had a good value. I found my meal to be spicy and flavourful, while my boyfriend's was sweeter and still very tasty. The naan was absolutely fantastic! Although it kind of sucks how rice and naan are sold separately. However, I appreciated the fact that she told us that one order of rice would be enough for us to share between two people.
All and all, I found the food to be very good and I'd be back!
Food was OK- Service needs Improvement. This was our 1st visit. We had the Namaste Special platter, onion bhaji and samosas. The meal was good but not great. The food could have been served hotter.Prices were reasonable.
Service is the big problem. Insufficient staff to handle the patrons especially when it's full. Tables are too small to handle the dishes that are brought to your table. Not sure the kitchen staff can handle requests when it's full.
We'll try it one more time. Would not recommend going during peak times.
