Surprisingly good!. I wasn't expecting much from this place, but it turned out surprisingly good for food in a strip mall location. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but the interior is quite nicely decorated. I had the crispy sesame beef - well cooked, the sauce was very good and overall manageable portions.
Very good! Shrimp pancake very good!
Never leave this place without trying the fusion roll and shrimp pancakes ... amazing appetizers
Good food, good service. Went for Pho with a coworker today, she had the chicken I had the Seafood, just what was needed on a grey windy cold day. It really hit the spot. The seafood was plentiful and cooked just right, lots of noodles yummy broth. Service was friendly and attentive and food was served very quickly given that the restaurant was packed for Friday lunch along with a steady stream of takeout.
OK for Elmvale. Nothing special. Friendly staff, especially Emma. Had spicy lamb and it was awesome, pricey and portions are a little on the small side. Do not order chinese rice beer. It's simply gross. They are closed on Sundays.
Great restaurant. In a neighbourhood with very few restaurants that could even remotely be considered upscale, this family owned one is a gem. The food is made fresh and delicious. The Pho is delicious. The Pad Thai is pretty good. But the real gem are the fusion rolls. Delicious and filling. Those two are great as a lunch.
Always been good. I have been there several times in the evening for a sit-down meal. I usually have a soup, entrée and main course and sometimes an alcoholic beverage but more often green tea and dessert. The food has always been well cooked and well presented and, considering that it is prepared and cooked on the spot, it gets to your table in a timely fashion. When I have finished, I feel that I have eaten a good meal and also feel that I received good value for my dollar.
We decided to try this place out for a quick bite to eat. It's walking distance from my house, and there isn't much to eat around here. My husband had the PHO which looked more appetizing than my pad thai. It was tasty but a little low on the sauce and veggies. The prices are good and the staff is very friendly. I was happy and full at the end. That's all I wanted :)
Size Does Matter. A couple weeks ago I had shown up to work and forgotten my lunch at home so needed to pick something up locally. I was having trouble deciding what to get when I remembered reading a review on Oh Basil by someone in a similar situation. So I gave it a shot.
First off I was surprised by the decor when I walked in. Considering its location I was not expecting it to look so good. I placed my order and waited. When I was handed my order I was a little disheartened by the size of the container. I had ordered the Dakao Vermicelli and what I had in my hands felt like it might hold a Big Mac, if you squished it a little. Upon opening it a work I was further disheartened when I saw the portions were half the size of what I would normally get for the $12 price tag.
That being said, it did taste good. The pork could have used a little more seasoning and the spring rolls were more roll than filling. Overall I enjoyed it but it's far from the best Vietnamese I've had.
Considering my other choices on a lunch break, this is probably one of the better ones around. If I were to go out dining though, I would most likely skip this place over.
There, Oh Basil! is an exception, surrounded by such familiar franchises as Pizza Pizza, Mr. Sub, Extreme Pita and Starbucks. But Nguyenâs mix of Vietnamese, Thai and unique dishes (more later about its âFusion Rollsâ and so-called âSilly Noodlesâ) stand distinctly apart from the more generic offerings next door. - Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen Tonight for dinner my wife and I decided to investigate a suburban plaza, of all places, to see if the reviews on Oh Basil! ( 1910 St. Laurent Boulevard, Ottawa ) by Peter Hum of the Ottawa Citizen and on Urbanspoon.com were correct. We arrived at 4:50 P.M. to the traditionally suburban Elmvale Shopping Centre which is a strip mall at St. Laurent Boulevard & Smyth Road. From the front of the restaurant - sandwiched between a Pizza Pizza and a Starbucks - I was expecting a traditional asian style take out restaurant found in a food court. I looked through the front window to an empty restaurant which gave me a little pause. I looked
