A diamond in the rough. Basic place on a slightly run-down street in Vanier, but don't judge a book by its cover.
The food here is quite different from the 'typical Indian' (read: Punjabi/ North Indian cuisine) served at most Indo-Canadian eateries. The lunch buffet is a great way to sample a number of items, at a very affordable price.
The owners are are Bengalis and their cooking reflects a mix of Bengali and North Indian styles. While the obligatory tandoori and butter chicken make their appearance on the buffet table (can't avoid these, I suppose), it's the vegetable curries and appetizers where their traditions shine through. The chicken and beef curries are not-too-rich but provide a depth of spice and flavours reminiscent of home-cooked Bengali meals. Finish up with the sweets (home-cooked and medium quality IMO) or soothe your palate with ice cream from the freezer nearby (included in buffet price).
The owner and his wife are friendly and happy to offer suggestions to the un-initiated. Not a fancy or posh eatery by any means......... just a decent place for some home-cooked spicy foods. Enjoy!!
This is our favourite place to order Indian food in Ottawa! If you prefer sweet dishes, I recommend the chana masala or the bengul bhaji. If you like spicy dishes, then the chana bhoona is a definite recommendation. The naan is always hot and fresh and the 20+ times we've ordered from here you can tell it came straight from the tandoor. Other favourite dishes are the saag aloo, onion bhaji, and vegetable curry. Great vegetarian selection.
We recently started ordering from Golden India with UberEats - what a great find! The food is always fresh and delicious, the byriani is awesome. Highly recommend it.
I enjoyed a Rice Bowl and Chicken Curry here at lunch today although my favorite thing on the menu is the Fish Curry! Try this place - you won't regret it.
We went here on a Friday having reserved a table. Probably didn't need to reserve but wanted to be sure! Excellent food and service. We did not feel rushed but were served without fuss in good time. Recommend this place. Definitely good value.
Great service, great food. Tandoori chicken is highly recommended as well as the Raunak E Seekah kebab.. amazing. I come here regularly for it.
The moment we walked into this restaurant, the setting and ambiance were great. The place is delicately decorated and tables were set meticulously. However, we did not decide to eat in, but rather get takeout. I ordered a dry Curry with vegetable and rice which came served with a creamy Curry. It was absolutely delicious and I have no complaints. My partner ordered chicken dansak which was extremely spicy and delicious as well. Food wise, I have no complaints. Great Naan, great rice, everything was perfect. However, we ordered two simosas and they were not in the bag. We realized this once we got home, so we did not bother going back, but this is disappointing. The food was delicious and I would go back, I would double check k to make sure everything is there however.
This place is my go-to for ordering in. The menu is more extensive than many Indian places in town, and there is lots of flexibility regarding the proteins. Pretty much every style of dish is available with chicken, beef, lamb, and shrimp. There is also an extensive vegetarian selection.
I particularly recommend the baingan bharta, a roasted eggplant dish served on a flat bread - this dish made me an eggplant lover, rather that an eggplant occasionally appreciater. A smokey, enticing flavour with a smooth, creamy texture. Other highlights include the muglai paratha, which is kind of like scrambled eggs inside my favourite of the Indian breads. I like ordering extra to have for breakfast the next day.
The one time I went for the lunch buffet, I wasn't disappointed. Everything was fresh and flavourful. It just isn't as extensive as their take out/a la carte menu.
In my opinion, one of the best Indian joints in Ottawa.
Little gem. My favourite for take out, delivery and dine in on great, lovingly made Indian. Location in a strip mall on McArthur hides delectable dishes served with attention to service, in a family atmosphere. Attention: may lead to overeating ...
Let me preface this by saying this is my go to Indian in Ottawa. I love the staff and the food is pretty darn good. My last 2 orders was overly sweet. Not up to par, I hope this is a just speed bump and not a trend.
Great naan and definitely try the Chicken Saag Gosht
Gold Mine!. I cannot express how much I love this place. As a fan of Indian cuisine I feel Golden India gets top marks. The dishes are flavorful, non greasy, well priced and the service has always been excellent, (both delivered and in person). Of the 20+ times I have enjoyed their food there has only been one problem, and I think it may have been an honest mistake. As another user pointed out, the Korma was overly sweet. Interestingly, I ordered the korma for the first time recently and yes, it was far too sweet, but so was their raita, which is typically not sweet at all. This leads me to believe there was a yogurt related mix up, (as korma is a yorgurty dish). Please don't let this be a deterant. As far as Ottawa Indian goes this is the absolute best, ie...this blows Mia's out of the water - a totally different league.
My typical order:
Naan
Cucumber raita
Lamb roganjosh
Chicken saag gohst (a MUST imo)
Lamb vindaloo (very good heat here)
Aloo gobi
Delicious!. I've been to this restaurant several times and have always been pleased. The begun bhaji is the best in town, and I love the chicken dupiaza. The service can be a little slow at times. I haven't had a chance to try the lunch buffet yet. I agree with previous comment that they should try an evening buffet one night of the week.
They don't have many dine-in guests but the decor is quite nice and I prefer to eat in. If you live in Vanier, do give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.
Great value for the Buffet. My husband and I were looking for an Indian restaurant for lunch on a Sunday and found this restaurant on Urbanspoon. It is a small restaurant with a hot and cold buffet. Cold buffet is mostly sauces (lime pickle, mango chutney, coriander lime sauce, etc.) and green salad, fruits, and desserts. A la carte menu is available, but we didn't choose this option.
The hot buffet had many vegetarian and meat options. Not every dish was spicy, which was nice to have a balance. If you're looking for really spicy, the chicken madras gave a good burn, and there was a chickpea dish with some really nice heat. For milder tastes, the eggplant dish was one of my favourites. The butter chicken sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, but still pretty good. Tandoori chicken is available by request, as it tends to dry out too quickly when left out on the buffet. Naan bread and two types of rice were available also.
Overall, a very good meal for the price. For two people after taxes and tip, the bill came to less than $30!
Mouth Watering Food...!!. We had ordered food to pick up and it was vegetarian. I simply loved it. Since we went at closing hours, they gave us an additional Indian Sweet. That was really kind of them to do. We will definitely dine in next time. Great food and tastes even better. Keep up the spirit guys.
Great Delivery And Food. Ordered for delivery. Exceptional food. Been looking for Indian places since I moved here from Montreal and this will be my place to go.
Very good. Good food, always order for delivery, good clean food.
DELICIOUS AND FRIENDLY. Enjoyed an amazing dinner here last evening. The family owned restaurant has wonderful warming food with very generous portions and great prices. Staff ensures this is a great experience for an Indian food outing. Will definitely return.
Nice food, friendly service. We went as a family with two kids under 7. The food was excellent. The onion bhaji and the pakoras were great and the kids really enjoyed them. The naan was fresh and fragrant. We also ordered spicy chicken tikka masala which was very nicely spiced, not too too hot for the adults, though the sauce was a bit on the lukewarm side (temperature-wise). Other dishes including a lamb dhansak were also tasty and well prepared. Serving sizes were adequate. Prices were reasonable, main courses 12-14$. We will definitely go back again. It was a bit hard to find in a little strip mall in Vanier, but next time we will know.
Best chicken madras in town!. Hi, I rarely write any reviews since I spend more time eating than writing but this restaurant deserve few minutes of my busy eating schedule. For those who loves spicy hot food, their chicken madras is off the chart! I have been there for lunch buffet as well as dinner time and let me tell you that the staff is very friendly, food is excellent, I always come out of the restaurant with a smile. My favorites are mulligatawny soup and chicken madras.
I liked the place and service. Food was delicious, all dishes we had were hughe!
Delicious & Friendly. We have eaten in the restaurant once and taken out 3 times, and each time we loved the food and the service. This family-run business cares about their customers and does everything to please. The food is the best Indian food I've had in Ottawa, with tender Butter Chicken and spicy Beef Madras. In other restaurants, Aloo Gobi sometimes suffers from under-done potatoes. Not here! It was flavourful and tender. Chana Bhoona chickpea curry was fabulous, with a hint of sweetness and heat.
Prices are reasonable for such good food, and the portions are huge! Appetizers are between $ 3-7, and mains float around $12.
The service in-restuarant was great and the delivery was quick and polite. The driver mentioned that he hadn't seen us for a while, which he hadn't, as we forgot that they did delivery. We definitely won't wait that long next time!
Nice Restaurant!. We just happened to be driving down McArthur Avenue (don't ask why) and we saw this restaurant. We pulled around and got there at 2:12 just as they were placing the “Closed” sign in the window.
They let us in anyway and we had their lunch buffet. It was excellent!
The service was also great. We talked with two of the staff and the experience was delightful. They introduced us to two new desserts we had never had and they were gooood!
Though we live quite a distance from this restaurant we will make the trip again.
Great!. I was so excited when this place opened nearby, and haven't been disappointed yet. The food is always really, really good. Lots to choose from on the menu. They claim to prepare their own base spices in house, and you can tell the difference.
Definitely one of my favorite Indian places in town. Be warned though - using fresh ingredients does mean better tasting food, but it also means more variable spiciness in their dishes. Sometimes the same dish can vary from medium to super hot from one order to the next. Not a big deal if you like it hot though, since it always tastes great.
Incredible food wowwwwwwwwwwwww. You have to try this amazing restaurant. The sevice is A1 and the food is just really really really nice. This is what I call an excellent indian food. Thanks Golden Inda.
SOOOO GOOOOD. Oh my god, probably the best indian food I have had in Ottawa and almost Montreal... damn.
I have a nut allergy and am vegetarian and they accommodated it no problem.
Very tasty lunch Buffett , enough spice , I love spicy Indian , the spinach shrimp is great along with everything , very impressed and I go to all Indian buffets in Ottawa , beats out coconut lagoon hands down , which is just around the corner on st. Laurent , gonna have to try ala carte someday
Wonderful food, been there many, many times.as soon as we tried the food my husband and I both looked at each other amazed that we had not tried Golden India before. This restaurant in our opinion has the most flavorful and aromatic indian food you can find - they are not afraid to use spice and portions are larger than most other restaurants . Some of the negatives we have noticed is the tandoori chicken is not as good as many other places also the soup could be fresher (firmer vegetables). We also cannot vouch for butter chicken as we never order it. Golden India may not be our favorite restaurant in town but we have definitely become regulars.
Really satisfying Indian meal. My family and I tried this Vanier hot spot on the advice of Urban Spoon reviewers. We were not disappointed.
Located in a ramshackle strip mall on the eastern stretch of McArthur, it's not much to look at from the outside. But once you enter, the service is super-attentive and friendly, and the aroma from the kitchen very promising.
Trusting our instincts, my wife and I uncharacteristically went for a table d'hôte menu offering (AKA "Combination for Two BB). It was a carnivorous affair, starting with onion baji and beef shami (patties of finely-ground, spiced beef). Next came lamb tandoori, which was flavourful if a little dry, a savoury eggplant dish whose name I no longer recall, and beef bhoona, served with rice and nan. It was finished off with fresh fruit.
Overall, an excellent (if not exactly "Hindu Kosher") meal. The bhoona was a little spicier than I expected, but very tasty. The eggplant was also excellent.
One thing we noticed right away was the surprisingly huge portions of everything. Perhaps it's a benefit of beng in a low-overhead location. Our son ordered a shrimp in sweet yogurt sauce. Usually, a shrimp dish comes with 3-4 prawns. This thing had eight large ones. Our dishes were far more than two people could reasonably eat at a sitting.
I spoke with a man who I presumed was the owner, and he acknowledged that the portions were deliberately oversized. "I like to give enough for a meal, and some to take home," he explained. Which we — and seemingly everyone else in the restaurant — did. When I opened up the package this morning, I saw they had expertly packed everything, including the "empty" sauces and leftover salad. It was enough for a light lunch for two, and we're considering recycling the sauces for tomorrow night!
Best Indian Food!!. I have been going to Golden India since it opened and at first my boyfriend and I were worried they would go out of business due to them constantly giving us complimentary desserts with our take-out! Thankfully this place is so amazing its gotten a fan base and loyal customers who return time after time. Went last night and decided to eat there and this time I honestly couldn't just pick one dish so I ordered three to myself (made myself a little mini buffet of all my faves) At the end of the night the waitress looked at me as if I was crazy when I asked for the menu. I ordered dessert to go as I was extremely full but couldn't resist. This place makes me feel as if they are solely cooking for me and I always get a "welcome back" even when its been over a month or two since my last visit. Love it and doubt I will ever go anywhere else for Indian as long as I live in Ottawa.
Amazing Food. We purchased a Groupon for Golden India a couple of months ago but had not had time to use it......last night we finally got the chance.
From the moment we walked in, we knew that this was going to be something special. The service was outstanding, from explaining various dishes to keeping our water glasses full. But the most amazing part of the evening was the food.......simply delicious....from the opening appetizer (egg plant) to the fresh fruit and chocolate mint at the end of the meal. We have eaten at numerous Indian restaurants around Canada and this without a doubt is the BEST!!
Congratulations to the serving and kitchen staff on an outstading dining experience!
Best Indian place in town! .... Best Indian place in town!
Having returned numerous times all I can say is that we are itching to go back as well as introduce more friends to this place.
The food is exceptional and the service very professional and friendly.
On our last visit we shared rice, naan and butter chicken. We ate like kings and still were able to bring some food home. The fruit at the end of a meal is a nice touch.
Great food! It is so nice to find a good Indian restaurant with take out and delivery. We ordered a couple of different curries and all were great!
Excellent service. 1. excellent, friendly service. Water non-stop. Gave our kid a free drink.
2. free fruit dessert. Mint ovation chocolate as well.
3. for indian food in ottawa, price is good.
4. food portions are filling. naan bread is big. hot food plate to keep food warm.
5. good atmosphere.
Loved it!. We went to this place based on the 94% rating, and boy did it not disappoint. An excellent restaurant, clean, friendly and with a great attention to details from the sitar music playing, to the warming food trays to the cloth napkins to the after 8 mint when you get your check. Don't mean to sound pompous but it's really unexpected in the heart of Vanier. A well run place. But the best part was the FOOD. Amazing! We ordered blindly off the menu and wasn't disappointed with anything! Go, you must!
A must try!. It is so good, I can't even go to any other indian restaurant. Compared to Golden India, no one else can make the food the way they do it. I'd recomment Dhansak if you are into spicier dishes. But litterally anything off the menu is good.
This is hands down the best Indian food in Ottawa. The naan was extremely fresh as was the curry. Had the chicken Ceylon which was a daring decision but spice like that you can't find anywhere else! Just amazing. Also ordered the Chicken madras which was delectable. Will be going back in the near future without a doubt.
Great service, great food. Great service, friendly people, great food, clean place. The essential for a nice meal with friends
Amazing food, equally amazing service! Highly recommend the plate of assorted tandoori meats and stuffed paratha. If you live in ottawa and like Indian food, this is a must!
Awesome Indian Food!!. My fiancée and I have been looking for a good Indian place since we've moved to Ottawa. We thought we ought to try this place out given its great reviews and we were not disappointed at all! The butter chicken is great. The naan is awesome...definitely try the roti bread which was stuffed with spices and cheese. We were the only ones dining in on a Friday night which is odd given the quality of the food. You also get big portions and the service is great. It's a family ran place and everyone is friendly. We also ordered take-out from the place because it was 20% off for a $60 order for pick-up. We got a lot of food for the price. Will definitely be ordering from them again on a weekly basis!
Superb Indian restaurant! Reasonable prices, fresh, flavorful dishes, plentiful portions and attentive (but not overbearing) service. This restaurant rivals Montreal's best Indian restaurants, and is a must-try in Ottawa! Don't be deterred by the exterior, this is one book you can't judge by it's cover. Come try it before it's packed out of it's mind with return customers! We had the onion badjis, lamb sag gosht (sp?) and a yummy chicken curry - meat was plentiful and we had dinner for the next day left over. Their rice and naan are also perfectly done. They even gave us a complimentary fruit dish for desert! We'll be back with friends and family for sure, even though we live nowhere near this place. These guys even deliver to downtown and the Glebe! Enjoy!
Ottawa's Best Kept Secret!. This is an incredible little family-run Indian restaurant, with a comfortable ambiance and great authentic food. My friend and I ate there on a Thursday night. The service was very courteous, with a complimentary fruit plate after the meal. We had samosas as an appetizer. For our mains, tandoori chicken and lamb tikka. Delicious! Serving size was very generous. We made the trip from downtown to try this place and it was well worth the trip.
Very, Very Good. Went Saturday at lunch for the buffet with a small group. Place was immaculate, Indian music in the backlground, staff (owners) very friendly. Whole group had the buffet. Personally sampled almost everything on the buffet; would have tried everything but was too full. The eggplant and okra were delicious, the curry lamb scrumptious, spicey shrimps devine - a little on the hot side but I just loved it and they were very tender; and all these lovely tastes and textures started off with a mouthwatering soup. .... and, despite the fact that there were no drinkers at the table, service could not have been better and our water glasses were refilled without even asking. There were desserts but too full to try them. Very reasonably priced bargain for such darned good food and lovely service. Definitely calls for many return visits.
Excellent Food!!. Food was delicious, service was great, and the decor is nice. We were both very impressed with how good the food was, and are looking forward to dining here again.
Golden Indian is the best Indian food in Ottawa by far. Also just as good as Indian in Toronto or Montreal. Very authentic, affordable, well made and good setting inside the restaurant. If you are an indian food connoisseur or an adventurous eater, this place is an amazing spot. My partner and I now go there 2-3 times a month :)
Absolutely fantastic.. We've eaten here many times, ordered a wide variety of things, and all of it has been incredible. Some of the best Indian food I've ever had.
Lamb Tandoori Masala is strongly recommended.
Best Indian Food in Ottawa. Golden India is delicious. I've been to several other highly-acclaimed Indian restaurants in the area, and this is by far the best! Had the lunch buffet, which has a good variety of freshly-made food items, and is very reasonably priced. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back for more!
What a find. We visited this restaurant on a Thursday on the recommendation of a friend. We were aware it had recently opened but hadn't been enticed to go. Located in a small strip mall formally occupied by a Giant Tiger store the location and outside appearance does not "grab you".
Please overlook the location and step inside. Upon entering we were immediately greeted and welcomed by Subra and his mother who were working the front of the restaurant. The restaurant's decor is simple but spotless and it has about 15 to 18 tables. Unfortunately few were occupied on this occasion.
Shortly after being seated we were presented with a basket of Pompadoms. These are similar to nacho chips but much lighter and flavorful. They could be additiive. Or next surprise was the cost of beer. At $4.99 for a large imported beer (Tiger) or $4.50 for domestic I think this might be be least expensive restaurant beer in the city. After ordering two beers, one domestic and one imported, we pondered over the very extensive menu nicely divided by intensity with each item being described in detail. We ordered SHAAMI KABAB at $5.99. This is tender, minced beef ground to a fine paste together with various spices, formed into patties and fried. Served with onion rings, tomato and wedge of lemon. Served very hot, this was an excellent appetized to be shared. For our main courses we ordered Chicken Biryani which is Basmati rice and meat or shrimp, fried in clarified butter with coconuts, sultanas, almonds and garnished with tomatoes , fried onions and cucumbers. Served with vegetable curry sauce at $14.99. This dish comes from the Mild section of the menu. From the Hot section we ordered SHRIMP PATHIA at $14.99 which was placed on a warmimg plate. This is a hot, sweet and sour shrimp curry cooked with chef’s special blended spices. Perisian style. View the full menu here. http://www.restaurantgoldenindia.com/Menu.html
Both these dishes were large portions and were outstanding. We did not want dessert but were presented with a small bowl of fresh grapes, cherries and watermelon. A hot individually sealed hot towel was offered and with payment of the bill we were offered two chocolate Ovation sticks. Delightful.
This restaurant deserves your visit. Its very extensive menu, reasonable prices for both food and alcohol and the very sincere welcome by the staff makes this restaurant a place to be discovered.

IS THE BEST INDIAN DESPITE ORIGINAL PESSIMISM. We decided to try Golden Indian after reading the reviews online. When we got there we initially reconsidered based on the outside look but decided to try it. Not only was the food absolutely incredible, it was the best service I have ever experienced anywhere in Ottawa. As an avid fan of Indian cuisine I have tried almost everything but they have a few items on their menu that I will definitely be returning to try out.
Have only tried the Lunch Buffet, absolutely delicious and excellent service! Will be back for dinner :)
ABSOLUTE BEST INDIAN FOOD. The food was absolutely incredible! It was very authentic, flavourful, and fresh. It was my dad's first experience with indian cuisine, and not being a huge fan of curries, was pleasantly surprised! We all started with a native indian drink. My dad highly recommends the Cheetah beer, and my mom and I shared a half litre of the house red wine, which was an excellent pair to all the dishes. My dad ordered the lamb tikka, and my mom and I each ordered a different combo for one, A and B respectively (had we known, one combo was enough for all three of us!). We did substitute the curry dishes out for different ones with a bit more spice, which was no problem at all! From the large selection we had, I'm confident in saying that there probably isn't any item on the menu you could go wrong with. My favourites were the sag gosht (lamb) and the rohgan josh (chicken), and you can never go wrong with a homemade naan! As a starving student, I was ecstatic about the large amount of food leftover! Still after portioning out our three dinners, and lunches for both of my parents, I easily have enough for two or three more meals! The restaurant itself is very quaint and well done, and being a family owned there is a warm, welcoming feel to the service. Everyone was very friendly and attentive! Definitely check out Golden India! Best indian food in Ottawa!
Hidden treasure. Wow! Large, tasty fresh portions. Generous. DELICIOUS!! A family business. The exterior is nothing great to look at and the decor is plain. But we didn't come to admire the frontage, or associate with the neighbours... we came for dinner. And despite having read so many good reviews, we were still surprised! Sag made fresh, chopped coarsely. Lamb was lean (except for a couple of pieces). Chicken tender. Spices fresh and zesty. And the service was sincere and gracious. This isn't one of those places where ambience and service makes up for a fair kitchen. It's a place where fantastic food earns its own reputation, with service to match where the "staff" (apparently family) actually care. If you want generous portions of delicious, fresh, authentic Indian food, try it out. You'll be back. We will. For sure.
Don't let the location fool you! Although situated in a strip mall on McArthur, the food is the best indian I've had in Ottawa, and the service is fantastic! We have now ordered delivery twice, and the food has been amazing both times. Tonight's meal came with complimentary papadum and dessert, so we decided to let the fact that they forgot our samosas slide. Fast-forward to 1 hour later, we received a very apologetic call acknowledging the forgotten appetizer, and within 10 minutes, our original order of samosas along with a complimentary order was rushed to our door. Absolutely delicious, very well priced, and great service... what more can you ask for!
BEST INDIAN FOOD IN OTTAWA. By far the best indian food in Ottawa. The service is great, the food is great. Just go and try it. I promise you will not regret it!
Great Indian food. Nice to have a traditional indian food restaurant in the neighbourhood. Not only was the food great, the prices were very reasonable - quite a bit more reasonable than what you would find downtown. The staff was extremely inviting and the atmosphere was nice.
Did not try the butter chicken, but the chicken korma had a touch of sweetness which worked nicely. The naan was of course great and the saag paneer was better than mom's. Take out is nicely packaged.
This is a new restaurant that is definitely worth checking out. Will have to try the lunch buffet.
Simply Fantastic!. What a wonderful new restaurant. They just opened mid December 2011 as a "new build" restaurant so everything is brand new, sparkling clean and decorated wonderfully. The owner is so charming, such a wonderful person.
The food, my god, the food was fantastic! We have eaten at almost every Indian restaurant in the city and their buffet, at $11.99 all you can eat buffet is better than all others who charge double their price!!!
We were so impressed we are planning on returning with a group of friends to share this wonderful new gem we stumbled upon.
You will be so happy with the food, the decor and the service you will want to come back every day. It is making me hungry for it just writing this review.
Fantastic restaurant. Very good quality food at reasonable prices. Excellent service, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Their lunch buffet was amazing, and every one of the many dinner menu items we've tried has been superb. They even took the time to explain ingredients and recommend dishes to accommodate my special diet needs. Highly recommended, and a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood!
One the best indian restaurant. One the most delicious Indian food i had ever tried and also has great services. Out of most of the Indian restaurant in Ottawa, i recommend you to eat there
I love the Indian food here. The curry dansak is really good but it may be too spicy for some. The menu has sections based on spiciness of the dish. the heating platform is a nice added touch.
I went here for dinner a couple of nights back and had a very enjoyable evening. As half ethnic Indian raised by my Indian mother, it depresses me to see a general lack of upscale Indian establishments in the Ottawa area, unlike say Toronto or Montreal, but I am happy to see this as an exception.
The entrance is nothing to talk about since it is tucked away in a strip mall, does not set a good tone. However once inside, greeted with friendly staff followed by reading through a highlight of some of the menu items on a display, and a substantial bar to the right, I had a warm feeling it was not going to be that bad. At the bar, I noticed a nice collection of whiskers, Scotch, as well as some upscale Indian ones.
The key of course to any restaurant is the food and I will save my superlatives for here. An item that is consistently disappointing in Indian restaurants is the Tandoori Chicken, one that should be simple in theory but seems to be hard to deliver in practice. This restaurant succeeds - I did mention to the server that I wanted it extra spicy and well done, and the kitchen delivered. The curries were well executed as well, but the highlight in the main course was the extra spicy Lamb Biryani. Rather than spoil the surprise, I will let the presentation speak for itself. When you order one, you will know that is one huge plate that is also nicely accommodated with some sort of a vegetable sauce. All in all, it was a fantastic visit and will be back for sure.
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but great once you enter. The food is delicious. I can't handle spice, so I appreciate that they offer a few dishes that are mild yet packed with flavour. My husband has ordered spicier menu items and they have all been great too. We moved across town, but still find the drive worth it, as the Indian restaurants in our area don't measure up.
This place has the best Indian food in Ottawa! The food portions are very large that our entire group had leftovers even while ordering only one plate per person. The service was very prompt and each server appeared to have a personal interest in your dining experience being the best. Will definitely return soon!
Really great family-run business. I have only been for the lunch buffet, but will be back soon for dinner!
The Tandoori chicken and fish curry have such amazing flavour and a chili cilantro sauce that is to die for. Get a chai tea for a great way to end your meal! The buffet has a great variety of options and a couple desserts to choose from. You can really try everything until you know what you like. Pricing is quite fair for all that you could potentially eat!
Cozy and personal atmosphere. The owners are lovely and you can see they care about their restaurant. Try out this gem, you won't be disappointed!
We've been to this restaurant several times, first time was with my wife for lunch buffet. and was very impressed with the varieties and freshness of food. We were quite impressed with the service too, naan bread was replenished as soon as it got low with hot ones, table water was refilled without asking ,overall excellent food and service!
Subsequent visit we were 8 of us and was well accommodated with the same good food, good wine and good service
No doubt, we will make this is a go to for one of our favorite Indian food.
It is a bit far from where we live, nevertheless it is worth the drive .
One of my favourite Indian places in Ottawa along with Host India. The owner is super nice, and the food is incredible. Everything is fresh and tastes fresh. Their sag paneer is the best I've ever had, and the lamb madras is another must try. Be aware, they grind their own spices fresh, which means that a spicy dish can be extra spicy if they get a particularly potent batch of dry ingredients one day.
The beef dupiaza was extremely flavourful, with a generous serving of super tender beef. I absolutely loved it! The samosas fillings are actually spicy, which was a very welcome surprise. As other have stated, the butter chicken is quite sweet and mild. Overall excellent meal, will definitely be ordering from here again!!
