Review Mandarin Ogilvie - Ottawa

Man the food was good. It was hot off the wok and simply delicious. The quality of the dishes were very good. The place is clean and the staff are hard working. Totally recommend this restaurant. It does not disappoint. Lots of parking.

My favourite dim sum in Ottawa. Had to take a two year break due to COVID and that’s the longest I’ve gone without going there and hopefully the last. By far, best dim sum in town ❤️🤗

I was there today for lunch. The staff are rude and in a rush. Food was okay but nothing exceptional. Chow Mein is so bland. Customer service is bad This will be my last coming here. Will not recommend it.

Great selection, well priced, food was hot. The deep fried squid was crispy with nice thick and tender tentacles. Their coconut taro dessert steamed in a leaf bowl in delightful. Overall an excellent 饮茶 experience.

This is a very good Chinese food / fusion restaurant. The owners and servers check on tables often. You can have standard Chinese food or dimsum. It's got plenty of seating and the food is delicious. Their take out is also pretty good, but I would suggest eating there in person because that's when the food is at its best.

Really yummy food, I tried Dim Sum style for the first time today. However, the service we received was honestly just really sad and needs work. I understand being busy and stressed out, but the sassy comments, rude service was just uncalled for. Come here looking for good food, but not good service and you won't be disappointed.

I organized a work event and suggested people come here because I really love that they are wheelchair accessible even though I’m near Chinatown. The food was very tasty but upon arriving the owner said we had only half an hour to order dim sum instead of a full hour because the chef was leaving early. I had brought over extra menus for our table of 10 so several people could look at them at the same time but when the owner came over he rudely snatched them up, taking them away. We had picked our dishes and we tried to get him to come back to our table to take our order several times. We were having great conversation but in the background we can hear plates being put down on the tables behind us. I felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant early so that they could close. I might come here for a weekend dim sum but not for large group outings after my experience.

The food was yummy (Chinese food is tasty, so no surprise there), but all these 5 stars go to the older gentleman who served our table. He is probably 30 years older than me, but has the energy of a person 30 years younger than me! We had just requested rice and boom! 20 seconds later, rice bowls appear before us. "Excuse me, Sir, would you happen to have hot sauce?". By the time I was pronouncing the word 'sauce', he was putting it on our table! Great memory, lots of patience (with our undecisiveness), and a lovely attitude!! The man seemed to be a happy human being!! Too bad I did not ask for his name, but if you go, you will recognise him. He makes this restaurant experience even better! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I recently returned to Mandarin Ogilvie after ousting them from my list of regular restaurants last year. The food has always been very good but the service had been getting progressively worse. To the point of feeling like they literally did not want us there.

It seems that since our break, they have made some changes for the better. The same people seem to be managing the place but they brought in new wait staff. Much more friendly and competent than the owners serving tables themselves.

Will be returning in the near future. Hopefully they keep up with the improvements!

Ordered take-out. The portions in the combination platters were so small; never seen anything like it before. You can get better for your buck elsewhere.

My favourite restaurant in ottawa always delicious...with friendly solid service.
One of the owners Johnny is always good for a few laughs.
Makes you feel like family

A delicious place! I love the way dim sum works here and service is quick. Whenever we ask for anything, it is always quickly provided. I've been coming here for years with family and will keep on doing so.

Dr. Williams. My family and I have been eating here for decades. Better than anyplace in Toronto!

This is the best chinese food in town. Great service they make you feel like family from the minute you walk in the door. Try the snow pea leaves, most amazing vegetable dish you will ever have guranteed

Family Favourite. Great Chinese food in the East End. My family loves it and always comes back for special occasions/reunions. The manager (?) is always very nice and friendly to us, and accomodating of our sometimes complicated and massive orders. My absolute favourite is the crispy sesame beef and the deep fried tofu, those are a must-try=)
Leba Kabore
Terrible. The kitchen must be wall to wall microwaves. The worst Chinese food in Ottawa. Noodles were crispy because they were stale not fried. I think the owners do not read the comments, I wish I did before coming here

Terrible Food. A friend and I stopped by for dinner yesterday. One of the featured house specialties, sweet and spicy shrimp, was truly awful. I have given this restaurant numerous tries, and have to say we will not be back. Honestly, I have no idea where to look for good Chinese food in Ottawa, having just returned from Toronto where we sampled some lovely Chinese food.

Stale chicken. Just did take out on dim sum and chicken with cashew & mixed vegetables. Chicken were stale, this happened 2nd time. Will never ordered again but dim sum was ok. I have been going to that restaurants for last 14 years...real shame. Cutting corner is not the way to go.

Awesome!. 6 months after our wedding my husband and I finally got around to holding a wedding breakfast for our local friends since we chose to get married elsewhere. We decided on dim sum and mimosas! (we're not rich) We talked to one of the owners and told him we'd like to book for 70 for dim sum on a Saturday at noon. No hesitation. I delivered the bubbly and orange juice on Friday and they put it all in the cooler. Saturday arrived and we showed up a bit early and very nervous! Everything had been thoroughly thought out and arranged including an extra table should we require extra--and good thing they did because 80+ people showed up. There were a few wait staff assigned to our area and they went out of their way to make everything go smoothly and did it ever! The cart service began when we decided and they feted our crowd with the freshest most delectable dim sum ever, and such variety! Many of the crowd had never had dim sum and they left quite sold, others who were familiar with it had never been to the Mandarin. They will be back! By 2:30 we had settled the bill (unbelievably affordable) and the staff had helped us load our car with the leftover bubbly and gifts (Yay) We've since been thanked for such a creative and original take on the wedding breakfast. Masterfully executed! THANK YOU MANDARIN OGILVIE!!

Best Chinese food in Ottawa. Been going there for over 20years, never disappointed . Not your typical North American style sweet and sour chicken balls type fare. But the hot and sour as well as chicken corn soup are excellent. The sizzling beef, Szechuan prawns, garlic chicken are sublime.
Attentive polite staff and very reasonable prices

Owners are noticeably nicer to non-Asian diners.

Rushed and not worth the price. Went here with a group of people on a weekend. It was busy, but the service was good and the people pushing the carts were really nice. The only thing that bothered me was when ordering drinks and getting the cheque. The other workers (owners?) were very rushed and it was hard to get their attention. It also took a long time to get the bill.

As for the food, it's pretty typical Ottawa dim sum. Shu mai and dumplings very similar to other places like Yangtze. I like the chicken feet better at Yangtze, although Mandarin Ogilvie makes a really nice and spicy squid salad that tasted very fresh.

Although as a warning, do not order the tea as they charge by the cup. 1.50 per person. I went with 5 people and the bill said "1.50 X 5 people" so 7.50 for a pot of tea! So if only 2 people went, it would be 3.00 for the same size pot? Ridiculous...

I probably won't go back here. There's just nothing that makes it stand out against other dim sum places in Ottawa.

We are Dim Sum regulars. Love the dim sum. We go weekly.
Have not been for dinner so cannot comment.

Simply Awful. We had not been to the Mandarin Ogilvie in years and decided to go for a family dinner.

Service-inattentive, rushed when someone actually came out to take orders or bring us food. Tables next to us remained uncleared and dirty for the duration of our visit. You would have thought it was very busy, but there were plenty of empty tables.
We noticed other tables looking lost, waiting for someone to take orders, etc.
Food-terrible. We had spring rolls, egg rolls, lemon chicken, orange peel beef, mu shu vegetable, steamed eggplant with garlic and steamed rice. The mu shu vegetable were the best of the lot, and everything else was tasteless, lukewarm, awful. You could get better at Panda Express or by making some recipe off of the internet.

Will NEVER go back. There are better Chinese restaraunts in this city!

The dim sum here is awesome. Wide variety of choices as well. I only tried one of the ordinary dishes and it was only okay. I got excellent fast service when I went. I would definitely go again just for more dim sum!

Food good; service wretched. We reserved for 6:30 & arrived to a crammed front doorway. Got seated fairly soon then had to hunt for a server to take our drink order. More waiting & flagging down a server to take our food order. We could see tables around us looking for their food; getting one plate only after the first one was eaten. Servers wandering around lost. More than an hour after arriving, not so much as an eggroll had arrived. After chasing the ?owner we got our meal. Good food but not nearly good enough to overcome the wait. A pity; I had good experiences here in the past.

Taste buds will thank you for going. Ok. Here is the thing about this place. The service might throw a lot of people off, but most authentic asian restaurants do. If you want to be pampered and called sir in a british accent by a handsome bus-boy wearing a black tie, don't go here. But if you want really good tasting Thai food at reasonable prices, then this place will deliver. I have yet to try their mandarin food (cause I am insanely in love with Thai food) but I hear its good too. Their thai food that I have had I can fully vouch for; its great. Probably one of few restaurants that I get a re-craving for the day after going. I in particular enjoyed their curries and noodle dishes (although their pad thai was not amazing). Definite recommendation.

Food great, service not so great. We have been going here for 15 years and the food is always excellent, although pricier than what we pay in Chinatown for the same quality.

The service at supper time is fine, but if you go for dim sum, do NOT let them seat you in the large overflow room to the left. The "service" there is terrible - if you can even get any.

LOVE this place!! I have been coming here for 5 years and the service and quality of the food is consistant. Amazing dim sum and price is great!!

Best Feast in the East. I have been going to this restaurant for close to 20 years. The owners and managers are honest and hardworking people who look after their clients, treat their staff well and provide awesomely delicious food. They recognize repeat customers, and they love to joke them as well as with the staff. They are very hands-on. It's one of the best, if not the best, places for Dim Sum. They make great Shrimp-stuffed Eggplant and their Sticky Rice in a Lotus Leaf is exceptional. The food is always fresh and delicious. Love their Hunan Dumplings with Peanut Sauce. Their Cantonese Chow Meine is great. Their Shrimp in Lobster sauce is the tastiest I've had in all of Ottawa. Good spring rolls. Good Stir-Fried Vegetables. They're not afraid to use seasonings, garlic or chilies. It's my favourite place to get together with friends for Dim Sum or supper.

Lots of choices. This place is enormous! Good for large family gatherings. The prices are right and the food is very good. Lots of staff so the service is fast.

Great family place. I have been going to this restaurant for many, many years. We are usually seated promptly, the service is always warm and the food is fantastic. Our favourite dishes are the Singapore noodles, the hot and sour soup and the moo shoo pork. Don't come here if you are more the red sauce and chicken balls type of diner. That being said, this is not the type of restaurant that intimidates its patrons. Since the restaurant has expanded this is also a great place for larger parties. My only criticism would be that sometimes there is a different chef in the kitchen and there are some variations in how the dishes are prepared.
Betsy Foodwise
The mediocrity of the food was exceptional. Did they cook those shrimp?

Dim Sum place for us. We go with two other families to Mandarin Ogilvie for dim sum once a year. It works for us! It is consistently good and we have never had a bad experience. In addition to the items from the carts, we usually order a hot and sour soup. Lots of hot sauce and tea keep us going. It is a bit out of the way considering where we live but once a year we can make the trip. I prefer it over places on Somerset.

Terrible service! We've been there a few times to give it a fair chance but horrible service with rude, ignorant servers everytime! How can you have an enjoyable meal with terrible service????

I've been eating here for years with my family. We love the dim sum. We still order and go here whenever we have a craving for Chinese.

Its often hard enough to find a restaurant on a Friday night that can accommodate a group of seven without a horrendous wait. This particular evening though, we were nine and two of that number were Michel and Joëlle, our daughter’s parents-in-law from Fr
