Review Feleena's - Ottawa

Leanne Nguyen
My boyfriend and others had raved about this place and we finally made it out. Service was great and though they were busy, we didn’t have to wait very long to get seated. So much to pick from the menu- I went with the fajitas and it was SO good! Server even packed us extra sauce to take home with us (honestly, they need to bottle that and sell it!). Space has lots of seating and atmosphere is great for a casual outing. You will leave with berh happy bellies!

I’ve been going to this Mexican restaurant for a few years now. Margaritas are a must. Always a great experience. The decor is really fun. It’s a bit of a louder environment but the staff is friendly. The patio is great in the summer.

This is such a cute Mexican joint! Has beautiful art on the walls & has the most interesting elements like chairs and objects that pay tribute to the Spanish culture! I am also a fan of their food & the portions!

Was hoping for a better dining experience. We were basically ignored by our server after we decided to have an app and split an entree, which was fine. We then wanted more to eat and even asked another employee to get our waitress….When we left, I saw her and told her that “I thought she had left for the night” She gave me a lame excuse. Hence 2 stars.

Excellent home made style Mexican food and excellent Margaritas! Can order tacos individually but they’re not on the menu. Great dessert too!

We went as a group of 3 and had a seat on the wonderful patio, the service was outstanding. Anne met us at the door and was an absolute treat. The drinks were perfect, food was well and above beyond delicious. Speed of service and the entire experience was worth another visit. Which we are sure to have. 7/5 stars.

One of our favourite Mexican places to eat. If you like Enchiladas, try the Mexican Flag! It has a variety of flavours to enjoy. Feleena's Margaritas are terrific. On my most recent visit, I ordered a "Spicy" Margarita. It is their regular Margarita with ground 🌶. A nice bit of heat, finishing with the Margarita flavours. 🍹 I'll have one again, the next time we are there! Of course the service was great, as usual. Thank you Feleena's

They have large portions and the food is tasty. It was very busy on Friday night but our server was attentive and kind.

Good food - terribly managed.

We went to the patio today and there were lots of wasps. I asked if they had fly swatters to get rid of them and the server said no but they put sugar water in the middle of the patio to distract the wasps from the tables. I asked if the traps had lids and he said they’re not traps they’re just there to distract the wasps.
…
They planned and intentionally put wasp attractants in the middle of the patio so that the wasps would fly in through diners at tables to the middle of the patio and then out again.

We asked for plates to go in case the wasps were too much and ordered. Here’s where it gets real bad. My friend gave her allergy list to the waiter. She’s very allergic to beans and asked / made sure it’s ok to have a safe meal there. He said it was safe.

Food comes out and we start eating and my friend almost bites into a bean. She immediately takes a couple Benadryl and shows me how to use her epi pen in case she accidentally consumed something she shouldn’t.

It looks like there are 2 people working there. I get the older gentleman’s attention and explained that my friend was almost sent to the hospital and I asked how this could happen and what their allergy protocol is. He said he’s very sorry and it was an honest mistake. I said an honest mistake is when you spill a drink on someone. What happened was very dangerous and I asked again what their allergy policy is. He said would you like to talk to the cook, he’s having a bad day. I said yes! I could have had to epi pen my friend. I’d like to know how this happened and if we could ever take her there again. He said the cook’s busy and said he just works at the bar.

They comped her meal.

Nobody took responsibility for what happened. It was just a lackadaisical response to what could have been a very serious medical incident. A better managed restaurant would have taken down our information so that the manager / owner / chef could call and apologize, explain how it happened, and what steps they’re taking so they don’t hurt someone else who has a serious food allergy.

I really don’t feel good bashing a good restaurant but their response almost killing my friend was “honest mistake”. Mistakes do happen, but serious ones should be dealt with seriously and this was brushed aside.

Strengths
Good food
Friendly family run business
Great location

Weaknesses
They don’t have/follow an allergy protocol
Bathrooms gross
Lots of wasps

A very average restaurant. Chef advertises his East LA roots but the experience was nothing like the Southwest. Had the tamale and taco salad. Portions were small. Way too overpriced. Food tasted just Ok. They don’t even give you chips and dip! Plus the chairs are wobbly and hard wood uncomfortable. Disappointing. Only way I would go back is if one of my gringo friends insisted because they don’t know any better.

2019/03/10
I decided to walk to The Glebe at dinner time, and I found Feleena’s. This is a colourful and cozy Mexican restaurant that seats about 60. All the chairs wooden, were different shapes and different colours, including different paintings on the seats. It was almost empty at 5:30, but there was a steady trickle of customers coming in as I had my meal.

I picked the Fajitas with a mix of Chicken and Shrimp. The skillet arrived screaming hot with 6 plump shrimp and an equal portion of sliced, grilled chicken, on top of sautéed bell peppers and onions. Everything on the skillet was nicely seasoned. The fajita fixings included sour cream, guac, pico de gallo and lettuce. I think it could have used some shredded jack cheese as well. Still, it was a filling and satisfying meal.

Service was friendly and pretty fast.

I really enjoyed this place. We were regular customers or the old Mexis before the franchise disaster. Great Burritos, enchiladas, tacos, chilli and nachos The food is the kind of Mexican I enjoy. The service was great and everyone was really friendly.
The food was decent. I had the enchiladas but they were quite dry. Service was good. The inside of the restaurant smelled quite foul and did not look very clean. We sat on the patio and found the tables to be very close together. All in all I dont think I would go back.

I really really enjoyed this restaurant, particularly for its ambience! The decoration was super cosy and unique. The service here was impeccable I got to say, but little on the higher prices! I had their fajita and it was decent, nothing special. Will come again for sure!

Amazing restaurant! Mexican flag was super. The place was very cozy and very colorful. The art work was really catchy. Staff was very welcoming and friendly.

Went here Saturday evening for my sons birthday. Love the decor; funky dining area and great little bar. We had made a reservation and were seated immediately. Started with tequila, cerveza and the Feelenas dip. Piping hot and delicous. One in our party had the fish tacos and 3 of us opted for the Mexican Flag; 3 enchiladas and sides. Food was hot and plentiful. Fish tacos were good; the enchiladas were yummy. Our server was excellent; took good care of the birthday boy. Only issue were the drinks were a bit pricy. Thanks Feleenas, we had a great time.

Very good restaurant. The owner was there. She is bubbly and friendly. The sauce on the Mexican dish is very authentic. Small restaurant. Location is great.

This Resto has become one of the regulars for my wife and I when we're in the mood for Mexican. Great atmosphere and food, friendly service. A few nice Tequilas on the menu if you're a connoisseur!
Erin S
Warm and sunny patio with a very affordable lunch menu. I left full and happy with the quality of my cheese enchiladas. I also LOVED the colourful decorations and as a bonus, our waitress was very nice.

Absolutely love the atmosphere as I walk in the restaurant. The colorful decor and the Latin music make the vibe so much fun! The patio is a great place in the summer! The staff is very friendly and the portion are always deliciously filling.
SM
Embarrassingly bad service. Went for drinks and were told "why did I bother coming for your food order? I better not catch you coming here for just drinks on a busy Friday night." I can absolutely guarantee you won't catch us or anyone we know here ever again. Have been before and have had, quite honestly, mediocre and overpriced food. There's a reason this place is no longer a staple in the glebe.

The only good thing about this restaurant is the friendly service.
The food is decent however it is very pricey and the portions are very small for what you pay.

If you are Mexican food lover then you would be offended by this restaurant branding itself as Mexican. The food does not have Mexican flavours.
Susan
The food is amazing. The owners used to be the franchise for all the Mexis. I have been eating their food for over 20 years and it keeps on getting better and better. 🌮. The BEST Margs!!!
Amy
My trip here was amazing! Food was super fresh and super flavorful. If you like hotsauce try their jalapeno hotsauce, definitely one of my favorites!

One of my new weekend favourites! Feleena's is a family-owned gem in the heart of the Glebe and offers up fresh Mexican/Mexican inspired dishes. I love the Blackened Chicken with Rice and Black Beans, but would only recommend it to those with a particular fancy to salty food. The Red Wine Sangria is also a must, especially if you're able to get a seat on the patio. Expect some wait times for Saturday lunch and dinner as this place gets pretty busy. Overall, food and service was great and I'm excited to go back!

Delicious, Great Service, Great Value. My girlfriend and I went to Feleena's for lunch yesterday and we loved it. She had been before but this was my first time. The service was friendly and prompt...something we appreciated as we didn't have loads of time. I ordered the chicken enchiladas for $10.95, and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tostadas, also $10.95. I expected a generic red sauce, but was pleasantly surprised at a dish served with a green chili sauce that was tangy with a medium heat. I was offered some sour cream (at no extra charge I should add), and a dish of green hot sauce. The hot sauce went very well with the rice and beans as both were a little bland on their own. My girlfriend enjoyed her tostadas. We will most certainly be back and told the owner so as we said good-bye.

Rude service, terrible food.. Gross.

Bad service today.. We were here last week and it was great. Today l didn't get what I wanted although I asked twice, and at the cash l tried to address this issue but was told that the guy doesn't usually work there and that he couldn't help with menu questions. That's it? Best you could do? Paid for a meal l didn't order, and left.
Laura
Awful food. Used to love the food here but I went back last weekend and it was just awful. My veggie tacos were filled with yellow beans and carrots, and the black beans that came with my rice were plain and unseasoned. I would've sent it all back but our server never came to check on us except when it was time to show up with the bills. Definitely not going back.
John M
One of my favourites in the Glebe! The food and service is excellent. The owner always takes time to come over and say hi and ask how our meal was. Great feel to the place as well.

Not good at all. We went here and the food was bland. The guacamole did not taste fresh and I could have made a much better one at home. After we sat down on the patio, we were not given menus. Two parties who arrived after us, got menus before we did. When we did get our menus, the waiter seemed rather pushy and somewhat passive aggressive about we were ordering. Tried to convince me to order something for my son which I knew he would not like. I asked if there was a side dish besides French fries for the kids menu. He grudgingly admitted kids can order rice but that it can be messy. Translation: order the fries so we don't have to clean up after annoying messy kids. After the guacamole arrived, several bees started hovering by our table. My mother in law is allergic to bees so after a couple of minutes of trying to shoo them away, we decided to go inside. The waiter again seemed passive aggressive about us moving even though there was just ONE other couple inside eating. I ordered the carne asada tacos. There were more onions than meat in them. All in all, this was a disappointing experience. It wasn't terribly expensive but I would not spend money and eat here again.

Very Unpleasant experience. Please don't waste your money here. My girlfriend and I paid for one hour parking. After 40 minutes, we finally saw our food coming. As the waiter was walking over to us with our food, he accidentally dropped it. As I've worked in the industry for a long time, I know that these mistakes happen- and our waiter was the only one doing the best he could being the only server for the whole restaurant and the owner "helping". The owner, however, came by after this (15 minutes after the food was dropped and cleaned) and told us our food would be there soon (with no mention that it had been dropped). I mentioned that we had already been there for 40 minutes (when we had been there longer) in hopes of receiving an apology, or SOMETHING. Maybe some acknowledgement. Instead, he walks away, and then turns around while across the restaurant and says "You've definitely NOT been here for 40 minutes." In a very patronizing, cruel, LOUD and aggressive way. This response was not warranted- I was very polite and quiet when I mentioned it to him. (Meanwhile, we had the parking ticket- purchased it at 12:30 pm and it was valid until 1:30... and it was 1:25 at this point!!). The food eventually came, and was NOTHING special. No cheese on the enchiladas, which some might say is an integral part of the dish- I'm no expert on mexican food but the menu said it would be covered in cheese. Canned beans, tiny and tasteless potions. The bill came, was much higher than expected, and there was no apology and certainly no offer to even cover the 3$ starter chips and salsa that is normally given complimentary at some mexican places I've been. That at least would have been a tiny gesture made to right the wrongs. I have worked in the industry, and certainly NOT a prude, I don't make a habit of writing bad reviews. This place was THAT BAD that I signed up for a yelp account to deter others from going- the food was nothing special, and the owner made this trip horrendous. To clarify the waiter was doing the best he could, was and was friendly. I do pity the poor guy having to work for such a pompous, rude man. I will not be returning. Save your hard earned money and go some place that's clean, polite and tasty. This place certainly was none of the before mentioned.
Alan Craig
Don't waste your hard earned money. We were in the Glebe last Tuesday and since we just got out of the Home hardware next door and it was lunch, we decided to try the place for the 1st time. First thing we noticed was that there wasn't the typical smell of spices wafting from the food when we walked in (odd for a latino food kitchen). The waiter was cordial and we were seated promptly but the table was greasy and the general feel of our spot was just dingy. Nevertheless, i decided to order natchos (i am a big fan and how would a mexican style restaurant miss on such an easy dish?) and my wife opted for the lunch fajitas. I asked the waiter to ensure that no jalapenos be put on my natchos to what he replied" don't worry, we don't put any". That should been my first hint.
We got our fajitas which consisted of a ton of onions, a few slices of green pepper an itty bitty piece of chicken breast (maybe 1/4 of a normal sized breast and a teaspoon of tasteless green tomatillo sauce. The condiments didn't fare any better, guacamole that didn't taste like homemade, diced tomatoes that tasted a bit like salt and a wee bit of shredded lettuce with a bit of sour cream. Bland, bland bland. Then we got the natchos, i mean how cheap can you be? 12 chips on a plate with hardly any cheese to speak of and drizzled lightly with a bit of tomato sauce (tasted like tomato paste very diluted with water). The natchos were a total disgrace and the fajitas didn't do much better, i think they serve tastier food in hospitals and they are known to be bland. It was 35$ that i will regret spending for some time. Don't be fooled like me and go somewhere else

Waste of Money. My wife and I went to Feleena's as Mexi's is no longer around. First of all we were sat at the worst two person table in the restaurant when there were many different options. I may add my wife had our baby in a chest harness. Two minutes later a middle aged couple came in and I believe the owner who sat us said something to them like, "I don't usually sit two at a four seat table but for you I will." Something along those lines. Then our server came to take our orders and it seemed like he was on crack or had one too many red bulls. Way to hyper. We went through the nacho options and asked for regular nachos plus two drinks and two waters. Our two drinks came fast but no waters. We had to ask for water again and my wife's virgin margarita was disgusting and no salted rim. As we are waiting for our nachos I asked the same gentleman who sat us if we could sit outside as our current seat was awful and someone was leaving from the patio. He informed me that we couldn't as that would cause too many problems as we had already ordered and once you order you are stuck to that table. What a bunch of bull****. Other restaurants don't have this problem. So our nachos come, they are vegetarian and not regular. The portion size was like a snack portion size and they charge us 13.99 for the vegetarian nachos even though we asked for regular. I go to pay at the debt terminal as I'm paying I notice a revolting smell that reminded me of a men's bathroom and this is towards the front of the restaurant. It was simply the cherry on top for that whole experience. Feleena's is no Mexi's, they are simply picking up on the clients that use to go there, the simplest food item, Nacho's are horrible and the service overall was not great. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY THERE, GREASE SPOON MEXICAN COOKING FOOD.

Most Authentic Mexican I've eaten north of the Mexican border. My partner and I stopped in at Feleena's 2 weeks ago on a whim. It was the middle of the day, maybe a Thursday. I wish I knew our server's name because he was GREAT. He seemed so enthusiastic about our food that I thought he was the owner.
I do not understand the negative reviews on this site because this was the closest thing to Mexican food I've had since I lived in Mexico for 6 months 2 years ago. I had the chicken enchiladas that came in a verde salsa and they were absolutely divine. My boyfriend said his chicken fajitas were better than his former fave (lonestar). The refried beans were just like I used to eat every day in Mexico. I was so pumped about the meal! I can't vouch for their other dishes, but my enchiladas were phenomenal and authentic... But maybe if you're concept of Mexican food is tainted by the American, supersized extra cheesy concoctions you might think otherwise - and if that's what you want, I'm sure the super friendly, eager to please staff would oblige.

Terrible experience. The owner had terrible service. She disrupted our dinner several times. We felt rushed. I do not recommend Feleena's.

Awful food & service - avoid at all cost. I have never had this awful 'Mexican' food in my life. I ordered chicken tacos which were dry and tasted like saw dust. The chicken tacos consisted of dry chicken meat, lettuce and kennel corn, literally nothing else, no salsa, no hot sauce, no guacamole or cheese. Just plain awful. The spanish rice that came with the tacos tasted like someone had mixed paprika spice and dry, leftover rice together. The refrined beans were obviously from a can and tasted like something you can find at Dollarama.

The 'owner' of the restaurant (an older blond lady) came to our table and wanted to make sure that we would know that SHE owns the restaurant. Her frequent visits to the table were rather awkward and made my family feel uncomfortable. It's okay to be friendly and nice but this lady was just simply bragging and aggressive.

I felt so disappointed after this restaurant trip. Hope you take my advice and never visit this restaurant. The prices are very high and the food is just horrible.

Terrible!!!. This was - by far - the worst restaurant experience I've had in Ottawa, and I've lived here my whole life. The menu listed Mill Street on draft, and when I ordered it they brought it in a bottle and when I balked they responded that "we can't change the menu every time we get a new beer on draft". So, the menu lies - and that's a big no no. The waitress was an all right sort, all business, which is no problem - but the owner (this huge braying old lady) insisted on inflicting her terrible sense of humour and low class manners on my family and was almost as grating as the food. And THE FOOD oh my god... the prices were very very very very high and the food was high school cafeteria quality AT BEST. The chicken tacos were lukewarm, bland, undercooked and served with cold tomato juice rice. The beans had clearly come from a can, and the whole thing (beans, taco and rice) cost $15.00!!! I will never, ever ever eat here again. I am posting this here and I'll re-post it on my FB page and hopefully save some of you people from a horrible dining experience that is difficult to forget. Taking advantage of people because you are located in the Glebe is shameful - and calling this food Mexican is an insult.

Dissappoinment. We went to Feleena's based on advice from my operations manager. we were very excited to go there , finally an authentic Mexican restaurant! Wth! This place was a million miles away from Mexican. The food was so bad. The special of the night, Fish Tacos, I ordered the special, my girlfriend ordered the Chili Rellenos, as she does at our favorite Mexican restaurant. My tacos were so greasy and on a "tortilla" that was more like a won ton wrapper, absolutely disgusting, i never touched my food after the first taco, now too the Chili Rellenos. It was fried in the same oil the fish was fried in, need i say more about that. And the owner was a motor mouth , who for lack of service, kept you busy with her mouth constantly telling how great the food was. Never again will i go there , and everyone who is willing to listen, will be warned.

LOVED IT!. I was brought to Feleena's by my best friend, her mom and a few of her friends. Let me start by saying that i'm a teenage girl and am more of a pizza and mcdonalds kind of girl. Now, if you asked me if I would rather go to Mcdonalds or Feleena's I'd say Feleena's in a heart beat.Having already gone to Mexico and tried tons of different Mexican dishes, this is the CLOSEST you will get to authentic Mexican food in Ottawa. When I was there I had what I think may be the vegetarian enchiladas, but I don't really remember and let me tell you.. they definitely do NOT hold back the cheese. Definitely will be going back again soon.
Julia.no.1
Average. I had the vegetarian chili and the seafood quesadilla. Both were okay but I must add that of all the dishes I tried at my table mine was by far the best the other dishes were dull and overly saucy or watery.

Great spot in the glebe. Food was fantastic, service was great. What's not to love? Would definitely recommend.
Jon Taffer
Where should I start? My girlfriend opened her menu to a bunch of old guacamole sitting in it, the server brought our friends drinks without asking us. We waited a good 20 minutes before we flagged down the waiter and asked for a drink. Waited another half an hour before they asked us if we wanted food. At that point I really didn't want to give this place my money but it was my brothers going away party and I was hungry. Fast forward 45 minutes and no one has gotten their food. Nachos should never take over 15 minutes to make. I cancel my order. They are very nice about it. And that's where my experience with them ends. Don't go here, it's a waste of money. If you're looking for good Mexican food they're is a great place in the market called corazon de maiz, it will blow you away.
Pierce Roberts
This place has the slowest service in the city. You basically have to tackle the servers in order to get a drink or food. Food takes forever. Good thing they have tortilla chips or I would have died of starvation.
Battlestar Galacticat
Staff as sizzlin' as the fajitas. My only regret is not having tried this place earlier! The decor and atmosphere are inviting, and the chairs are simply adorable.

Food was outstanding. We split the guacamole appetizer, which was just so fresh and flavourful. My vegetarian enchiladas were nothing less than perfection, and came with plenty of sauce, which was great because I couldn't get enough of it! My friend had the lomo de puerco, and while I don't eat meat she said the cuisson on the pork was superb.

Our server Myiels was great, really funny and charming and made us feel right at home. And ladies, let's just say it's too bad he wasn't on the menu!

Will definitely be back!

Most authentic Mexican in Ottawa. Hands down, this is the most authentic Mexican food in Ottawa. I crave the sauces and if you go on a Friday night, the head cook Peter always has a delicious, original Mexican special. The patio is the best in the Glebe and the margaritas are always flowing. Definitely a favourite!
Oceanside2ottawa
Anyone that does not like this restaurant does not know good Mexican food. My wife and I both lived in California and had a wonderful experience at Feleena's today. Clyde was a great host. Our taquitos appetizer was served with a tasty chili verde sauce, my beef chili relleno was perfect and my wife's enchiladas were served with a cilantro cream sauce I could drink by the gallon. A bit pricey, but the patio at this location and after dining at several other "Mexican" restaurants in Ottawa, I'm just disappointed no one told me about this place.
Paul
It's not awful, it's just not good either. This is especially true when you consider that there are plenty of truly spectacular and authentic Mexican restaurants in this city that are friendlier, fresher and less expensive than this place.
Pugirl02
Good portions and fun decor. I recommend lunchtime as they have good priced specials. If you are a soda drinker with dinner, than you get more than the 6 oz soda served at other places. The decor is very cheerful. We have had very attentive servers and other times felt ignored by the staff. If you are looking for American Style Tex-Mex food this is not he place for you.
Tara
Food was excellent, service was not great, never came to the table to ask how the meal was or ask if we would like another drink
Heather
Like others have said.... ...the owners are totally rude. And the food does not make up for their crappy attitude. It's mediocre at best. We don't eat here anymore.
NitMir
Brutal in every aspect. I went to Faleena's last Friday around 6pm with my husband and the in-laws. We walked in and waited to be seated, however the owner went to the people behind us and sat them first. First mistake. We were seated on the patio (which was nice) since it was a gorgeous day out. The waitress came around for drinks, so we ordered Sangrias. They only had red Sangrias, not white, and the taste was rather tart as if the red wine were bad. After a long time the waitress came back to take our orders. We ordered burritos, and enchilladas. The burrito was OK nothing incredibly tasty. The enchilladas came in a cream white sauce - which wasn't very "mexican". The owner was very awkward and rude and tried to hurry us out to turnover tables. Very bad customer service. I thought it was interesting that they rushed us during our meal, yet when it came time to pay, there was a line up and we all had to wait. All these ppl want to do is turn tables at a fast pace and not truly care about good food, good atmosphere, and excellent customer service.
Lets_eat
Love the food. I've been here a few times now, and the food is delicious every time. The service was a bit slow, and true, the owners are very involved, but who cares? Chill on the patio, munch on some chips and fresh guacamole, drink a yummy drink and relax. The atmosphere is perfect for a late night dinner and drinks!

We have been in the Glebe for several years. Before, when it was owned by Lester, this place was impeccable and truly authentic. The new owners are quite rude and weird, and do not accept any criticism or suggestion. To further describe the experience, it is repulsive to see the "chef" smoking outside on his filthy apron - his side-door "appearances" to have a "smoke break" have already become a folkloric aspect of Second Avenue. Even visitors from other hoods think this is not an interesting sight. "Location" is what probably keeps this place running; its patio is really tempting. The food is really bad. Other reviewers have already explores the poor quality of the food at Feleena's.

Agave Grill - on Wellington St - is our recommendation for a truly delicious, pleasant and classy Mexican food experience in Ottawa.
Tony
Some people need to chillax. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, satisfying food. Not knock your head off OMG good, but definitely satisfying, especially their chicken mole.
Kay Bee
Horrible food and weird owners that are touchy-feely and hover over your table. If you get a server orther than the owners prepare to wait. Food is way overpriced for the quality and quantity. Claiming to be "authentic" Mexican food is a bit ridiculous when you serve tacos in stale hard shells. I ordered tacos expecting soft shells and was very disappointed to get a concoction of cold bland chicken meat inside hard shell. When I asked the owner about the soft-shell tacos he was short with me and made no effort to make up for my disappointment. He said they offer soft-shell tacos on their menu and that I made the mistake of ordering the "tacos" instead of the soft-shell version under a different name. Avoid this place you can make better mexican food at home and it will probably taste better.
B-lo
Not a fan. I've been here twice and both times i found the food mediocre and overpriced. the sangria isn't even very good :(
TheYork
Very good AUTHENTIC Mexican food. If you've tried Ottawa's other Mexican restaurants and enjoyed them, you will not like Feleena's as your taste buds would be better suited for taco bell. Both visits the food and service was great and I'm finally relieved to be able to eat Mexican food in Ottawa!
Nutkin
Family Friendly & Good Food. I went to dinner with my partner's family at Feleena's recently and they had a 9 month-old baby with them. The staff was polite and friendly, even offering to do things like split a shared margarita into individual glasses in advance.

I tried a bite of the nachos (delicious), had the chicken enchiladas with potatoes & vegetables as sides and split a deep fried ice cream. While I did find the potatoes & veggies to be odd sides for a Mexican restaurant, I found them delicious. I enjoyed my meal and would recommend the place. I really like the different paint jobs on all of the chairs; very unique.

Are we talking about the same place?. I'm baffled that there are bad reviews here. We've gone many times to Feleena's in the Glebe (not to be confused with Feleena's Cantina in the Byward Market, which has a completely different menu and is nowhere near as good.) We are always blown away. Last time I had the shrimp chile relleno... before that the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and doused in cilantro cream sauce... Look, I don't even think too hard about the menu anymore. I just pick something and I know it'll be good.

(GF disagrees slightly--she had the grilled salmon and wasn't impressed. But who goes to a Mexican restaurant and orders grilled salmon? Conversely, she loved the vegetarian enchiladas.)

Feleena's is in our top three restaurant picks in Ottawa.

Overpriced and safe. There was nothing wrong with the food I ordered here but in terms of being 'authentic' it was anything but. Everything was a watered down version without any real spice or flare.
Not to mention each appetizer was in the neighbourhood of $18 which is excessive for Mexican casual dining.
With so many options in the neighbourhood, I would seriously reconsider before heading back to Feleena's

Awesome!. What an amazing family run restaurant. Great food! Live music ( we went on a Friday night). Very personable. Reasonably priced menu. The food looked so good when we got there that we had a hard time deciding what to eat. We took the recommendation from one of the owners and it was super good. We will definitely go back!

Bad owners. Rude, over-bearing owners. the food does not make up for this deficit. a side of soggy, old green beans?
nice patio, but not worth the experience or the meal.

Dessert and drinks. I had the churros and a traditional lime margarita. It was up to snuff. Found out the restaurant was quite recently a former Mexicali Rosa's chain restaurant. The menu was vaguely familiar but it still had the authentic flare.

Horrible Service. We received horrible service on a recent visit to this mexican restaurant in the glebe. Our dinner party was ignored for the entire evening, and it took almost 20 minutes before we finally had to flag down a server to take our order. Not a great first impression! Our server was generally confused and absent for most of the evening and the owners of the establishment seemed too oblivious to care.
With so many other wonderful and delicious places to eat in the glebe, this is one restaurant we won't be re-visiting.

Really enjoyed the burrito and all the dishes served at our table were excellent. My wife reports the Margaritas were exceptioanl !

Clyde the owner, is the dude that brougt Califorian style Mexican food to Ottawa in the 1970's, San Antonio's Rose on Rideau was his first establishment in Ottawa... I think? Anyways, I had the beef tacos, they did represent this style of Mexican very well, tasty sides with the main of rice & beans came with it. We sat on the patio, and munched on a bean dip while we waited, and had a couple of beers, it was good and I would go again.

Yeah, it's not good anymore.... Used to be quite good and well worth it, but NOT ANYMORE. One of the co-owners left and started another place (AGAVE in Westboro). Since he left, things have gone substantially downhill in food and service. I live in the Glebe, but now make the trek to Agave for good Mexican. A shame, really...

STAY AWAY. HORRID. Being in the Glebe and full of patron's sadly doesn't attest to this establishments quality of food and drinks. I was sorely disappointed. I figured you couldn't get much worse than Mexi's.. Well after ten minutes we began to wonder if we'd made the wrong choice, perhaps we should have suffered through Mexi's watery salsa and chips, and it's mediocre food. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria and "Chili Nacho's" to start. My SO also had a margarita. Fifteen minutes in, when the drinks arrived we knew we'd made the wrong choice. I had the worst sangria I've ever had in my life, and sadly it was a pitcher full. Pretty sure it contained less than a quarter glass of wine. The margarita was horrid, how can you screw up two very simple drinks. Well, that was answered when the nacho's arrived. There was no salsa, no peppers, nothing but a dozen nachos on a small plate. Barely any cheese on them, and this horrid three spoonfuls of .. beans and beef. Accompanied by a rather large portion of sour cream. The main courses were even worse, small SMALL portions of horrid food. Quite frankly the worst mexican food I've had in Ottawa. I should also mention that the prices are higher than other mexican establishments likely because Feleena's is situated in the Glebe. But that's no excuse for shoddy. and I mean SHODDY food. ALL THUMBS DOWN. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
-Ravi Shanghavi

Had the chicken enchiladas with beans and potatoes. Enchiladas were good but the beans were a little bland on their own, until I requested hot sauce. The hot sauce is homemade, I believe, and really brought the meal together. I was pleasantly surprised - definitely better than Mexicali Rosa's - fresher and tastier.

At Feleena’s, the restaurant where I worked for four years, their quesadillas were pretty simple – meat and cheese between a flour tortilla and topped with one of their three delicious sauces (cilantro cream, chipotle or tomatillo verde). I basically followed the same principle, with a couple twists.

When I think Mexican food, I think of the cozy, handpainted-chair gem of an eatery that is Feleena's Cantina...
