Incredible sports atmopshere with excellent food and service. Right in the centre of the market, there is no better place to catch a big game; particularly a sens playoff game. Without a doubt one of the top venues in Ottawa
First time there last night and have to say I would highly recommend this place! Both food and service were great, wonderful friendly atmosphere! And the home team won against Boston! Great night out, will definitely stop in again!

Goose Island is great and the fish and chips are the best this side of the South Saskatchewan River.
Had a blast on Saturday night Ottawa and Leaf rival night! Great fun. Highly recommended checking them out on game night. Also the peanut butter, apple slaw, bacon and blue cheese burger was delicious!!!!

The venue is perfect for watching the big game. It does not have a corporate feel, and the food and beer are decent.
Great site lines with an assortment of games and high definition screens to keep you interested.
The atmosphere is unpretentious and the staff are friendly and accommodating.

Im not a too big fan of fish and chips but i love their fish and chips, 'are amaziiiiiiiiiiiing!!! Definitely go back for that!

We only stayed for a few drinks but their drink menu was excellent. They had a great selection of wines and well priced drinks. We did enjoy the patio and ordered some nachos which were well cooked but then again it’s hard to mess up nachos so I’m not sure how the rest of the menu is. The service was very friendly and fast. Overall good experience.
I have eaten at this place twice and very pleased with the food I ate. I first ordered the buffalo chicken wraps, which I very very spicy, a little too much for me to handle. The second time I got the bbq burger which was a great choice too
Best sports bar in the city by far. Perfect feel and the food is way better than what you'd expect at your average sports bar. Try the fish and chips or the peanut butter burger. Two of my favourites.
Typical bar food, small town sports bar vibe. Ottawa needs more places like these and less generic sports bars like boston pizza. Had a burger and beer and was happy with it.
This is my favourite spot to watch a game in Ottawa. Not as busy or overpriced as Real Sports. As a Jays fan, I love the fact that they play all the Jays games and many of the patrons are regulars and true blue fans. The food is decent for pub fare and the prices are modest. My only complaint is that it's a little small and the set-up is not conducive to large crowds which can make watching a big game problematic if the place gets busy. I suggest coming in early if there's a hot game on.
I moved to Ottawa about a year ago and live close to the market. I regret not finding this place sooner. I've visited a lot of the pubs in the area and this one is at the top of my list. The decor is warm and inviting, the service is incredible and the food is much much much better than the standard pub fair. You can tell they take pride in their menu. The coca cola candied ribs are a must try. Can't wait to take a crack at the turducken !!

First time, It won't be the last.. I had to show a friend around town and we decided to eat somewhere in the Market in the evening and The Senate was definitely the right choice!
The staff were great, especially over the phone when I called in to make a reservation.
But the most impressive part about The Senate is its perfect combination of atmosphere and food. My friend and I love how cozy the place felt, a perfect balance between privacy and openness (especially for game nights). I ordered the Turducken sandwich and it was DELICIOUS. Perfect seasoning, nice texture and generous portion size. The fries were perfect as well, not too salty. My friend ordered the Pea-Nut Butter & Bacon with Apple Slaw and she really enjoyed it. An eye-opening combination for people who have been shy to try something new.
Overall, I am very pleased with the food and atmosphere of The Senate. With its friendly staff, delicious food and generous portion size (for a very reasonable price), I will gladly bring all of my friends here.
Just what I needed!. I went on my birthday in December, it wasn't a Sens game night so it was pretty quiet. I was very excited to see that I could get Granville Island (Vancouver) beer, always a treat when I see it on a menu. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was perfect! The bun was only lightly toasted on the inside, so it was actually nice and soft. Exactly how I like it. What I loved most about my meal is that it didn't come with half a plate of fries. Instead of all fries I got a portion of fresh salad with tasty dressing and a portion of fresh cut fries. I was very pleased, and would recommended to anyone!

Been a loyal customer on a regular basis. Excellent food, fantastic friendliness, beautiful servers always impressed. Owners are fantastic and I will miss when I leave Ottawa.

Great Game Nights!. Our group of friends typically make it out to the Senate Sports bar for Senators game nights. Even on hugely busy event nights such as these, the service is fast and super friendly. I am a vegan, and even though the menu is a unique twist on traditional pub and burger joint items, I am always able to find something. Tons of flat screens and local booze :)

Great Sports Bar!. The food was really good (Buffalo Wrap and Tequila Pulled Pork) and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Even if we hadn't just won tickets there to the Sens game on Thursday (which was awesome!) we would still return! A great night watching hockey at the tavern :)

Warm, Friendly and Fun.. I’ve been twice with a group of friends and had a great time the service was fast and the Food is very good and the beer is cold. it’s a great place to go to watch a game. Their prices are very reasonable for a downtown pub. I’ll definitely be going back soon and telling my friends to check it out.
Friendly, Great Food, Good Beers!. I've been to The Senate a few times now and the food has been the most outstanding thing I've noticed. It's something different then the usual pub fare and I'm having a hard time finding anything I wouldn't order at least twice. The staff are friendly and helpful. The management is often available for questions and they appear to be very committed and involved in the business. Love the selection of beers and I can't wait to share a few with other NHL fans this weekend! See you all there!

Check this place out. I must say, what a great overall experience. The food, staff, atmosphere, everything was terrific. Only thing missing was hockey, but I don't think this place needs it. I ate the Rueben, it melts in your mouth. Our server, Katie told me, "it isn't even our most popular sandwich!", I beg to differ. My wife had the quinoa salad, which she said, "was delicious and was a nice change of pace for a sports bar." I have a new sports hangout, and my wife doesn't mind joining me, best of both worlds. A place worth checking out.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Had a great time!!! Staff was fantastic, friendly and attentive. Owners were in the building and enjoyed meeting the customers. Food was delicious and served quickly. Prices were VERY, VERY reasonable. Portions were big, atmosphere was relaxed. Decor was warm and inviting. Go - you'll be happy you did.

Great Spot!. I wouldn't call my mother and I sports fans but we saw that the Senate was new in town and thought we'd test it out for the fun!
I'm glad we did! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It wasn't too loud and flashy like some "other" sports bars in Ottawa and the service was friendly and courteous.
I ordered the Sheppard's pie and salad and it was De-licious!!! No ketchup needed! And I could drink the salad dressing! My mother had the pineapple burger with a side of onion rings. It was amazing as well! I was surprised to hear that almost everything on their menu was house made (including items like their ranch dressing and chipolte mayo!). It's a nice change to your regular pub fare that served at other bars, usually comes in pre-made and frozen!!!
For dessert, we shared the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream! What a mistake, we should have ordered two! We devoured it!
The tavern also has their own house made "chex mix" that has a little kick to it! So good.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will definitely be recommending this spot!!! Maybe we'll become sports fans after all!!!
A Great Find!. I recently went to the Senate for lunch with some friends from out of town and thanks to the recommendations from our server we tried some items that are normally out of our comfort zones and it turned out to be an amazing lunch, so good in fact that after we finished our afternoon of shopping we returned for dinner!
I had the grilled cheese with grilled apples and candied (I think they were candied...) walnuts for lunch and peanut butter bacon burger for dinner.
Definitely a place I will be returning to again and again.
More then just sports!. Found a great new sports bar to enjoy the other day. It has a warm and freindly feeling that you don't find often in a downtown area. I was surprised on the great options that the menu offered. I am excited to watch NFL, MLB and hopefully NHL hockey soon at this new bar. Oh yes and the waitresses are not too shabby.
Great Food Great Atmosphere. Had the pleasure of dining at this locally owned and run sports bar. They offered a variety of traditional pub foods with an interesting twist! Had the peanut butter, bacon burger with apple slaw. Was probably the best burger I've had, gives Chez Lucien a run for their money! Had the fish & chips on another visit which are battered in miss Vickies Salt n' vinegar chips! Talk about a delicious twist! They also offer a quinoa salad that I have to try next visit! Very cozy and warm interior which kept me there til close more than once, haha. I'll be frequenting there often!

Turducken!!!. Stopped by to watch the College Football game last night with buddies and was pleasantly surprised. They have an impressive collection of sports memorabilia on the walls. I ate my first turducken sandwich ever...it is really good. Good luck to these local owners.
