Website spells this as "Soontorn" not "Soonturn". Ordered several dishes for pickup. Pricey but very good Thai, probably the most authentic I've had in Oakville yet. Pineapple fried rice very tasty, and best Pad Thai I've had in Oakville compared to "Celadon House" and "Thai & Hakka". Ended up with both the shrimp Pad Thai and veggie Pad Thai as they screwed up and were supposed to give us veggie pad se ew (although they wrote chicken pad se ew on the order). However, both dishes were very tasty and authentic, with the veggie version having much more veggies and other items than the shrimp pad Thai. So the veggie pad Thai had more diversity & flavour than the shrimp version. Potatoes were not sufficiently cooked in the Massumun curry (=tamarind curry), although the rest of the dish was quite tasty. My wife & sister thought the Mango salad was the best of the 3 restaurants mentioned above and my brother thought the same for the chicken satay and picky nephew liked the Siamese beef dish. Also ordered Jasmine rice, sweet & sour chicken and cashew chicken which everyone enjoyed. Highly recommend this place for authentic Thai, although a bit heavier on the prices than other Thai places, but the quality certainly comes out for the most part.
Good food! Really appreciate the restaurant for opening extra time for our dining experience.
Everything was good, but honestly I have had better prawn thai soup and red fish curry. Overall ambience was decent
Recommended for couples on a date
I ordered lunch green curry and pad thai and they were great except their sweet and sour soup as a part of lunch menu wasn't so great.
Many reviews say service was not great and I agree. It is not too bad but not so great either. I am willing to visit here again to try other dish but it would be great if they can improve their service a little bit
Lots of reviews, some really bad, some really good, so we weren't sure what to make if it, but in summary, we'd go back.
5pm on a Sunday, and only 2 other tables, so service wasn't being tested, however we were served quietly and efficiently. We noticed lots of folk getting take out, and no one was waiting, so the kitchen was up to it too.
Food was very good. We ordered the papaya salad and tamarind beef, (plus one side of rice), and we really enjoyed it. Tamarind beef was very good, nice curry, little bit of a kick. Beef was tender (i.e. it wasn't left over from lunch). Papaya salad was good, although different than I expected....more lemon, less sweet than I have had at other places.
Portion size was very good. Shared the above two dishes with the Spousal Unit, and while we weren't too hungry to start with, we were really full when we left.
Prices - yes, the prices are up there, however the restaurant & ambiance is very nice, with pleasant sculptures to look at and soft music. Can you find similar Thai food in a hole in the wall in Markham for less? Maybe, but you won't enjoy the evening as much. And the same can be said for many pricier asian/SE asian restaurants (have read similar comments about Dynasty Chinese in Yorkville).
Best Thai? Nope. Cheapest? Nope.
A nice evening out with some good Thai food in a nice restaurant? Yes, and we would return again
Excellent atmosphere quality food
Fabulicious!! Stunningly smart lighting, freestanding and ceiling-hung wood carvings, and even high-end restrooms (several singles each with cloth hand towels and pin-spot lights) make this Oakville's top-of-the-rock when it comes to Thai. Entrees priced mostly at $17 and $23 hit the table with a quality one would expect at $5 more per each. Portions not quite large enough to share are appropriate but uncommon in "more is better" Ontario. Cocktail prices at $12/ea clearly fund the ambiance. As other reviewers have said, the circular booths are THE place to sit. Tom pla muk was excellent. Gaeng pla was delicious. Ker pow gai was impressively flavorful. And the khao neow ma meung for dessert was unexpectedly stylish in presentation and structure. Outstanding restaurant.
Our favourite Thai Restaurant .... We have entertained at this restaurant many, many times in the past year.
First of all the restaurant decor (authentic) is beautiful.
Excellent food! The more people the more dishes to try. A wonderful selection and everytime we request the attendant's recommendation for new items to add on top of our favourites.
The service is impecable and always welcoming. A joy bringing guests to celebrate at one of our favourite dining places - great food and ambience.
Love it!
Excellent atmosphere and great tasting food.
Majestic massive wooden door leads inside to a beautifully decorated and Manhattan-like restaurant. The menu has standard Thai fare and a few surprises. Perfect restauant for a romantic date or special celebration.
Good and great ambiance. If you want to enjoy good and innovative Thai food in a relaxing, beautiful environment with quiet, attentive servers, Soon Torn Bahn is for you! Food is excellent, atmosphere tranquil, decor terrific. Highly recommended. :)
